I think it would be good to have a Final fantasy game where you play the whole game as the villain, maybe not realising til the end or maybe knowing all along that you are bringing depression to the world. what do you think?

I think it'd throw for a different twist to the game and plot. I mean, you could have the case where:

A.) you are the 'bad guy' throughout the game and at the end you change your ways and become good

OR

B.) you're the 'bad guy' and at the end of the game the good guys defeat you and the ending is all celebrated by the AI with your defeat.

It's a different perspective on things, and it's definitely hard to imagine an FF coming out like that. It'd be interesting to play though.

Id love to play as the bad guy and actually complete the whole thing I was planning on doing, destroy the world? Sure, I can live with that it would certainly be interesting

Maybe it could be like an extra game mode you could unlock on completion of whatever game yu were playing as the good guy, just to like, see how things could have been :monster:

What do I think? That'd be fantastic. I'd love to play as the villain! It'd give me great pleasure to kill countless video game people and burn imaginary cities to the ground. :neomon: And then, when those stinky heros come along, then I'd be able to beat the living hell out of all of them. Oh yes, it'd be a nice stress reliever! I'm tired of playing as these goodie - goodies. But yes, on a serious note, I think it'd be great. A nice change!

I don't think it would work, you'd get very little satisfaction from defeating the heroes and destroying the world. The mindless destruction would be fun for a while, but considering most of SE villains are boring one dimensional characters, who's motivation for destruction is either stupid, or non-existent, it would be boring.
Or as BustaMo said, the good guys win at the end, and no matter how hard you try, you can't win, that would be very pointless.
It would make a nice change, but i don't think it's practical.

It would work for pokemon though, i've always wanted to be a member of team rocket, one of those boring pokemon heroes:monster:

Would be very fun, yes. There's been a few games like that, but not enough. =(
RTSes where you play to conquer and oppress the world... muahahahaha!!!

You could say, Sgt Pepper, that the struggle between "good" and "evil" is eternal. That neither side's victory is ever complete, etc, etc. But I do agree that a game tends to be less fun if the character is one-dimensional.

It would be interesting to play a game where you play as BOTH hero and villain, like some chapters as a hero and some as a villain, you could decide who levels up the best and then watch the standoff at the end :P

I have always been curious about playing as a villain, and seeing the worst outcome, just as a break from the sweet happy endings.

Playing as a villain would be a plesent change for an FF title. To be honest I thought it might be like that in FFvXIII but nooooooooo the 'dark and mysterious' character is in fact a good guy.
As for chapters, meh, not convinced. It would turn out like Folklore, it would have a great battle system, plot, graphics etc, but the chapters of the hero and villain would be generally too similar to one another but if anyone could pull it off it would most likely be SE.
I've always wanted an FF game like Fable (although it would never happen), mainly because its more free-roaming that most FF titles, where the actions of the main character determine how people react to him/her, their appearance, story ending etc.

I would really like a FF where you played as villains, rather than Heroes. I'd love to have a group of like 7 bad characters, who go around causing dismay and terror rather than helping everyone! How evil ^^

I thik it is a cool idea, but most of the final fantasy games are about defeating evil so it would be very odd trying to destoy the world. I like the idea though of not knowing till the end you were the villian. I would buy it.

I think it would be great. But only if you were alone as a bad guy so instead of having a party of 7 you are a single villain who is alone in his quest to destroy the world. This would be good to see how the villains feel when a party of heroes come to stop them. It would have to be an extremely cool villain though ,in fact, it would have to surpass all previous villains except ; Sephiroth, Seifer and maybe Kuja [although he is really camp] in terms of design, personality.
I dont know it would be great though =]

Even if Square-Enix made the game where the main character was a villain, they'd probably ruining it by having him turn good in the end. But if they were to have a game where you're the villain, I'd still want a bit of the love story mushy stuff. Just to show that villains are people, too!

I think it's an idea that can go over well...

I'd rather they just focus on making something GOOD than try out loads of different gimmicks...but w/e works, I guess...*shrugs*

I think maybe if you played so far into the game as a party of 6 or 7, then there is a split about 2/3 of the way through maybe. This kind of thing might kill the replay value though, as experienced players may avoid levelling the characters they know they want to dispense with. I know I am guilty of avoiding using a certain character in a certain FF game because they don't go the distance.

Oh, I played a game similar to that concept. I know I was shocked when I found out I was actually playing the bad guy (although I think he was just a little corrupted and not really that bad, but turned good in the end...not sure, I didn't finish the game) because it's not your normal and typical game plot that you are actually used to. (You playing as the good guy/girl).

So yes, it would be interesting to see this in a Final Fantasy game. (But I doubt that would happen.) Of course, there'd be twists here and there, and a major one in the end where the main villain actually turns good.

Like Iago said, we probably will get a big disappointment for defeating all the heroes and conquering the world...that is to say, considering that the person playing is good-hearted in general. xD Because otherwise, it may actually bring satisfaction to those who do want to bring destruction to others...

Edit:

O.O What the fuck am I saying? Ignore that.

A bad thing

If they make a game where you play as the bad guy.

They shouldn't make it realistic cuz some persons are easily taking it the wrong way thinking about doing the bad stuff. If they make a game with a bad character they should focus on making it look like the things he is doing is really bad like you don't make friends when doing that kinda stuff.

Parents would not react in a good way they would try to ban the game and crush the company not that they would make much progress with that but I mean you don't feel well bad things happens to someone.

Games DO have ratings, y'know? I mean, the GTA series gets away w/loads of violence w/o really having to paint much of a negative image over it...Stupid parents are going to find something to bitch about regardless...no one should go out of their way to try to appease them.

Yeah but this is Final Fantasy not Grand Theft Auto.

Final Fantasy is not meant to be a game where you can turn the insides out.

It's good as it is! They shouldn't change that. Some other company can make a rpg game that is similar to Final Fantasy. But has a bad character that play's the leading role.

It's a good idea, but they kinda touched on it already in X when Yuna and Auron got separated from the party in Operation Mi'hen and you could temperarly control Seymour for the battle. It was only 30 seconds (or 15 minutes if you wanted to see his overdrive), but it has been done...
