Nintendo Pokémon Black and White

I remember when pokemon first came out. there was only 150 of them, and things were simple with 8 gyms. Now theres like a kabillion pokemon and 500 badges. To see how far its gone since i was a kid. They should make one that evolves into Bahamut:P

If it hasn't already, it looks like the designs department at Pokemon HQ has run out of creativity.

Based on the shapes I am seeing at that silhouette, there are some aspects I have seen before. I swear the lower body of the Pokemon on the right reminds me of Piplup in some way. The Pokemon in the middle reminds me of Turtwig.

In fact the more I look at it, the more it looks like that different Pokemons have been thrown together to make hybrids. :hmmm:

Well, I suppose there's only so much creativity you can put to starter Pokemons to keep them relatively simple-looking, so it's probably not entirely fair to criticise.

The pokemon in the middle also reminds me of turtwig^ and it looks like that it will have good attack and defense like turtwig, i could easily determine the stats of silhouette pokemon by their size. I think its going to be the same thing as usual, grass water and fire lol. I actually dont want the supposedly grass starter to be like turtwig, i want something like treecko with speed and good special attack.

I am trying really, really hard not to judge these new games until I've got sufficient information. But what information has been released just keeps letting me down, again and again...those things look absolutely shit. Exactly like those stupid monster foxes they revealed that are starring in the next movie and will probably become the next Lucario (who I also hate with a passion) are absolutely shit. I swear, the only Pokemon they know how to design properly anymore are ghost types and eevee evolutions...

In my opinion, Pokemon has been on a steady downhill climb since the second generation, and from what I've seen so far from the fifth generation - which isn't much, but lets face it, there never has been all that much to Pokemon games asides the Pokemon themselves and the battle system, which they'll never change beyond adding extra animations, and the graphics for these new incarnations are slightly tilted DPPHGSS graphics, if the screenshots are any indication - its going to continue the trend of being worse than its predecessor...I have to wonder how long before it strikes the ground and I just stop giving a damn. If those things look as bad as their silhouettes imply, then that time may be just around the corner...

Please, PLEASE, Nintendo, don't destroy Pokemon...

I'm not disappointed at all, I am actually ecstatic. o_O But that's just me. >.> I imagine there will probably be 550-600 Pokémon after Pokémon Black and White versions have been released.

I'm hoping it will be closer to 600, though. :hmmm:

I swear the lower body of the Pokemon on the right reminds me of Piplup in some way. The Pokemon in the middle reminds me of Turtwig.
I was thinking the same thing, actually. Also, based solely on its tail, I wouldn't be surprised if the middle one turns out to be some kind of pig Pokémon.

Anyways, I think it's a little bit early to be criticizing these designs much. They are only silhouettes, after all. It'll be interesting to see the actual designs and see which one is which type--especially considering that nothing of what I'm seeing right now really strikes me as "fire".

Also, I agree with Dweia for the most part. A lot of this stuff is actually really disappointing to me. Back when they were all "We're totally changing how Pokémon is going to work", I was pretty pumped up about that. But right now it looks like more of the same...except with different camera angles. Fantastic.

Those three silhouetted Pokemon characters that were shown in the last episode of Pokemon Sunday have been confirmed by leaked information from the latest Coro Coro Comics to be the starter partner Pokemon for Black & White.

The magazine doesn't provide their names, but does list them to be (from left to right in the silhouette image) grass, fire, and water type Pokemon. You'll be able to select from these three as your initial partner.

Implicit in this report is confirmation that Pokemon type is a major element of Black & White. No one was expecting this to not be the case, but Coro Coro does make a big fuss about it.

You'll have to see Coro Coro comics for yourself if you want to see all the silhouette's filled out. Considering the magazine's publishing schedule, it seems unlikely that we'll get the proper forms at the official site this week... but keep those fingers crossed!

Outside of the starter Pokemon, the magazine provides a look at the Isshu Region setting. This area is located a great distance from the Kanto, Johto and Shinoh Regions. "Is it like a different country which can be reached by boat and airplane?" That's what the magazine asks, not me.

Finally, one additional Black & White tidbit. We previously saw the game's male and female trainers in in-game sprite form. Artwork shown in the magazine reveals something that isn't immediately apparent from the in-game forms.

The trainers are all grown up now. They look like young adults rather than the childish main characters of past entries. The magazine speculates (as always, such speculation tends to have some foundation) that this means the story will be deeper.

The pokemon on the left reminds me of Breloom. :hmmm:

I reckon they should change the types of the starter pokemon, but it would have to be a rock paper scissors differentiation obviously.

Thank God the protagonists are grown. Playing as a child trainer grew all the more unbelievable as entire criminal syndicates and pokemon gyms were brought to their knees by the player.

Isshu Region huh? Odd name... And the player's character is going to be actually a grown up this time, not just some kid? It's about time that evolved too. xD

At this rate, I begin to doubt these games even coming out early next year, it's probably going to be a decent ways into it, maybe about a year from now? Maybe more... >_>

The first details of CoroCoro have begin coming out and show the starters. We don't have further details but it will come. Keep checking back as we're waiting for more scans with confirmation on the names and more.

The region appears to be called the Isshu Region (イッシュ)
  • CoroCoro states that the protagonists are older than they have been so far
  • Before the scans came out, some new information was posted on 2ch including the region name which turned out true, classifications matching the Pokémon's appearance and the aforementioned possible Pokémon names. This information detailled some attacks, classifications, Zoroark's ability and the special event from the beasts. I have decided to post it with thanks to yaminokame for translation. Remember though that the following information is NOT confirmed yet.
    • The Grass Starter, Tsutaja (ツタージャ) is the Grass Snake Pokémon
    • The Fire Starter, Pokabu (ポカブ)is the Fire Pig Pokémon
    • The Water Starter, Mijumaru (ミジュマル) is the Sea Otter Pokémon
    • Zoroark has an ability called Illusion (イリュージョン) which will allow it to transform into various Pokémon. How it differs from the move Transform remains to be seen.
    • Two new attacks have been announced;
      • A move called Trickery (イカサマ) seems to allow the attack to be calculated using the opponent's stats
      • Another move called Claw Sharpen (つめとぎ) raises the user's Attack and Accuracy stats
    • The special event activated by the special Raikou, Entei & Suicune given with the upcoming movie; Phantom Champion Zoroark has been detailled. In this event, when you bring the beasts (it is unclear if it's all three or just one)to the game, a special battle will occur. This battle is against a Level 25 Zoroark which will transform into the various Pokémon. At many points, it will break its transformation to allow you to capture it.
    • Remember, this information is NOT Confirmed as of yet and so it's quite possible that this information is indeed inaccurate. However, as the region name was accurate, it's also quite possibly real. We'll get confirmation as to whether it's real or fake when the rest of the scans come out.

Meh...I don't really like the look of any of the starters now, but if I had to choose on appearance alone, I guess I'd choose the Grass one. :/

I wouldn't choose to have a Pig as my starter Pokémon, so the usual choice for me of choosing the Fire Type Starter is right out the window. >_>

Well, it can't all be great, I'm still pretty hopeful of these being very enjoyable new Pokémon games, and have my fingers crossed for there to be a true Wolf Pokémon, PoocHYENA/MightYENA doesn't count. Hyena. :mokken:

Those things are freakin' ABOMINATIONS. Worse starters yet. I am not pleased at all - as if those blasted foxes weren't bad enough, now this. I'm almost dreading what those things are going to evolve into...especially that water one >.>

I admit I like the design of the female trainer, though. She has nice hair. Older protagonists is to appeal to the older audience who have been with the franchise from the beginning, no doubt. As if that excuses their crappy new Pokemon designs >.>

*sigh* They look just like they've been recycled. It looks like the designers have grabbed a bunch of earlier starter Pokemon, threw in some features of older Pokemon, did a few tweaks here and there with body parts, and called it a day. All it took were the silhouettes to tell me that as well!

They are the ugliest starters I have ever seen. After seeing delights such as Chikorita, Torchic and perhaps Piplup, I can't say that there are any out of the three here that I would even want in my lineup. The grass type is a grass snake Pokemon? It looks nothing like one. I never knew they have arms and legs. And that water type is exactly like Piplup but redesigned to look less like a penguin!

And the fire pig Pokemon is hardly any better. Oh well, design cynicism aside, I hope the promise of a shakeup in the storyline and new location will be a better distraction to make Black and White even a little bit worth buying.

Granted, I feel pretty strongly that the other Pokémon, at least a decent percentage of them, look a heck of a lot better than these starters, I can't say any of them look good, I can't speak of their evolutions though, I don't know. :hmmm:

But it doesn't seem hopeful for the starters, hopefully the others will be cooler anyways, and they won't go overkill with a bunch of new legendaries, they're a lot less legendary when there is dozens of 'em. :/

Ah I dont really like the Pig and Otters design I like the grass snake and I find it looks the coolest. But then again Im not gonna judge by starters xD I want to see the 3rd form of all Of them first so Ill be able to pick my fav.

The green guy really reminds me of treecko(eyes),the pig is a mixture of turtwig and bibarel, and the blue one,..is another piplup!!!

Not the best looking starters at all, they make pokemon look like 5+. the pig looks more ground type to me.

I concur with the general reaction. These are the worst starter designs ever. When I read that the water one was going to be a "water otter", I was like "Oh man, that should be sweet" but the design is just... awful. They're all awful with the exception perhaps of the grass starter, whose design is just bad.

The more I find out about this game, the more I'm dreading it. It is cool that the trainers are older, but I also find their designs to be kind of uninspired. It's like they decided to make the world in 3D and really pretty, but didn't bother trying to design anything else that looked cool.

:D

I'm not quite sure about them, but I'm willing to see what they look like in the game. The fire-pig appears to be pulling the Awesome-face :-)awesome:), the leaf-lizard looks ok, but the water-otter looks far too complicated for a basic starter pokemon. What is that symbol on the water-otter's chest? It looks a lot like a willy, and if I can see that then I'm sure a lot of other people can too, and therefore I doubt that design will appeal to people for the right reasons.

Perhaps they might look better at different angles, or during the game itself. I wouldn't judge them too harshly though. I guess there is only so much that you can do in terms of design when you have hundreds of pokemon, let alone the fact that these are starting pokemon which traditionally are all grass, water and fire based, and thus designing simple but fresh creatures for each game is probably quite a tough task. That said, as far as simplicity goes, I think the water-otter pokemon is probably a bit too complex.

Pokemon Black and White Trainers Revealed

Leaked CoroCoro magazine information reveals that the protagonists in Pokémon Black & White are older than usual, which gives one something to think about. As always, keep in mind there’s a small chance the scans could be fake until proven otherwise.
