*I hope this kind of thread is allowed...*

Okay...I will be getting a Playstation 3 soon (Hopefully if I get paid xD) and have been wondering which games to get.

I won't be able to get loads of games, I have a spending limit. It is 50 (maybe 65)$, after I buy the PS3. I think I can get Uncharted 2 on a bidding site (up in 2 days), so I will leave that out of the options for right now. (I really want it xD)

Here is what I have thought of:

Tomb Raider (new one, if its for PS3?)
God of War 3 (loved the series)
Call of Duty: MW2
Call of Duty: MW3
Call of Duty: Black Ops (Played it for Xbox, I don't like it more than MM2 though)
M.A.G (This is what I think I should get. Wanted it since I first saw it xD)
Mortal Kombat
Street Fighter

That's all I could think of. I haven't been looking into the games because I thought I'd never own the system. So I'd like to know what you guys play and suggest some games

*Stuff in Green is what I think I should get. I tend to like shooters like Call of Duty, games like God of War and Fighters like Mortal Kombat*

Thanks for reading, and helping if ya do! :33

Terra~

Well, let's start of with what general genre of games you like.

God Of War is great, but it's short, so I know you don't want a short game you can complete in 2 days. That'll leave you with nothing to play after.

Well if you get Black Ops there are quite a few people here who play that quite frequently, myself included, but with Modern Warfare 3 coming out in 5 months, it's your choice if you want to buy BO at this time but be warned that most likely BO is probably still around the $50-60 price range.

As far as the two fighters you said Mortal Kombat is a good game however due to your budget I'd recommend you wait on it since you'll likely have a hard time finding it for under $50. Just make sure you buy the game new because if you buy it used you'll have to buy an Online Pass in order to play online.

Super Street Fighter IV is a good game as well and you should be able to find that for pretty cheap now.

I like all sorts of genres; fighting, rpgs, shooters, action, strategy and games like Assassin's Creed (not sure what to call them...), Spyro (which I see there being nothing of), Naruto and Genji...But I am willing to try any game, as long as its fun and can hold over for another game xD

That is true...I wouldn't want to buy one game that would be beaten in two days. But I did replay my PSP and PS2 God of Wars after I beat them. :hmm:

@Vircon:

Thanks for posting!

Oh wow, if I was gonna get it I was gonna get it used. Thank you for telling me about the pass I would have never know >.>

As far as games not listed on your list I'd also recommend

Soul Calibur IV* - While the single player is pretty bad, the character customization and the online play is pretty nice. A very cheap game to find as well.

BlazBlue* - Preferably buy BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger if you care about a story in a fighting game, a surprisingly good one I might add. If you don't care about story then just buy BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. Both are pretty cheap now though I am sure CT is even cheaper.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - It's a great game though I can only recommend it if you've beaten at least MGS1-3 since they seem to have a bigger impact on the plot than Metal Gear.

Valkyria Chronicles - A nice little strategy game that I am sure you can get for cheap as well.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope -International-* - A nice long RPG for you to try if you want. I am pretty sure you can get this for around $30 now.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma* - Since you said you enjoy action games and GoW this should make you feel right at home. Sigma 1 is really cheap and Sigma 2 will probably be around $30-40.

Just to name a few games off the top of my head. I'm sure someone else will recommend more.

Soul Calibur IV, Metal Gear Solid 4, Valkyria Chronicles, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma(I think) all have demos on the PS Store so you can just check those out when you get your PS3.

* = Provided you haven't played the Xbox 360 version.

Edit: You can still buy MK used but you need to buy the Online Pass from the PS Store for $10. Unless you can get the game for less than $50 used, you're just better off buying it new.

Wow, thanks for the list, Vircon!

Bolded = games that really look great

I remember playing a Ninja Gaiden game, I can't remember which, but it was pretty hard but fun. I just looked up a video of it on youtube, seems to be similar to God of War, which is great to me.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger looks fun! Reminds me of Street Fighter (2d/sprite fighter). The anime and music looks and sounds great too. I'm happy it has story too, my dad loves fighters, so he would like playing it too (he's a huge fan of Street Fighter & Mortal Kombat).

I haven't played a Metal Gear Solid game in years. The controls were always a bit iffy for me (had a hard time playing it and Resident Evil), but I will look into it. I'm actually thinking about getting a Gamefly account to test out a whole bunch of games to make a list of xD

Valkyria Chronicles looks neat! I love games like that! This is the game, right? The acting seems a little raw, but I don't mind. I think it adds class. :awesome: This is definitely something that caught my interest!

I have always been a fan of Soul Calibur, especially since the gamecube version. I completely forgot about that game

Star Ocean: The Last Hope looks amazing! It looks like a mixture of Final Fantasy 12, some weird Mario game, Zelda and Phantasy Star! Now this is something I would spend hours and hours playing. The only thing that would have made this even better would have been character design, but oh well, can't have everything xD

Uncharted 2 is the best game on ps3 you should buy it.
Dead Space is quite good too.
Heavy Rain. I've not played it yet and I still want to, it sounds really good and like Dead Space it should be very cheap.
Cod:Black Ops, there's no point getting more than one cod game, they're all the same but they are a lot of fun.

Thanks Bob! I heard mixed reviews about Heavy Rain, but I always wanted to play it. Added them to my list.

Well I have Black Ops, MM2 and the other CoD games on Xbox 360s. Very fun for story lines, but I will only get one for now. :P

A game I haven't seen listed seen on the list yet is White Knight Chronciles. This is a fun RPG game, and they sequel is suppose to come to America. Basically its a typical rpg of saving the princess, but has a lot to offer and its a long game, and online play can be very fun also.

Heavy Rain is a good game. There is also a demo for it on PSN. The game is one big movie with a bunch of quick time events thrown in. The only downside is that if you're really dedicated to the game, you can finish the game in one day. Since it came out last year it should be pretty cheap now.

Like Hal said, Uncharted is a good game as well. Though if you don't care about storyline and just care about multiplayer, you're better off buying Uncharted 3 when it comes out in November. If you do buy Uncharted 1 do note that it has no multiplayer but Uncharted 2 does.

Fat Princess is a good fun multiplayer game as well that I'd recommend as well. You can get this one for $15 on the Playstation Store. All of the games have demos though so you can check them out if you're not sure if you'll like them or not.

Borderlands. Borderlands is immensely fun. Its got that sandbox element to it, but it gives you a definite direction, avoiding the pitfalls of Oblivion and Fallout by actually giving you something to do, instead of just leaving you to wander around bored out of your skull. Although, that said, there are missions you can do. Online multiplayer functions as well. The Game of the Year edition is going quite cheap these days, I'd recommend looking into it, and if you need a partner to play it with...:britt:

BioShock might be one to consider, as well. Its very atmospheric, plasmids add a little variety to the game, and the audio diaries give you a real picture of Rapture. Not much in the way of a story unless you get them, though. Although they're scattered everywhere, and you're bound to pick some up. The second one is nowhere near as good as the first, though. It loses the spooky atmosphere, although you get a little more depth in the gameplay by playing as a Big Daddy...plus you can shout "GIGA DRILL BREAKER!" at the top of your lungs when you shove your drill through a splicer and feel FUCKING AWESOME :wacky:

...oh, and Mass Effect 2. Whilst you'll be missing out a bit by not playing the original, ME2 has a fantastic, epic storyline, is addicting as hell, and unlike 90% of the popular games on the market (i.e. the entire Call of Duty series) it more than deserves its reputation.

Also, NieR. The last good game to be released by Square Enix to date! Your party consists of a hermaphrodite who swears every other sentence, a talking book with the dryest sense of humour imaginable, and a shy, timid little boy who turns into a skull-faced monster. The cast is amazing, the story is dark, yet with some very entertaining humour to it, a few twists and turns, multiple endings, and a nice variety to the gameplay.

...plus the soundtrack is unrivalled. Seriously, its the most amazingly epic thing you'll ever hear. It really adds to the mood.

Thanks Justice Ramza and Vircon. :)

Oh Heavy Rain is mostly a movie? Hmm...I think I might have to hold back on that way. I'm gonna need a game to play until I can save up and buy another one, so it might have to be playable over and over again. :P

Uncharted 3 already? Hmm, maybe I should just wait for the third. :hmm: I might get Uncharted 2 through a bidding site (not real money, saved up points), so I think I'll wait for the next game.

Oh I heard of Fat Princess! I heard many good things about it. My brother said he played it at a store and said it was really good.

EDIT:
Oh I didn't see your post Lezard Valeth! Sorry, hold on...

Borderlands? Is it a shooter, or an adventure game? I haven't looked it up yet. And sure, if I get it.... :britt:

So Bioshock 1 or 2? Or both? xD Is that the game with the alien armory looking dude? I think I remember playing Bioshock and liking it very much. :D

I've played Mass Effect one, and loves it. A little hard for me (I'm a SNES and N64 girl) to play, I liked it a lot.

NieR? Is that its actual name, or is it an abbreviation? Sounds great to me, especially if it has a great soundtrack. I think that makes half the game. Believable music, that is. xD

Thanks for adding to the list, Lezard! :33

NeiR is the actual name

And..

Hides in the :box: I say if you want... Get FFXIII, even with how much people on here say they don't like it, yes the game feels like a movie sometimes, but overall it still is a good FF game (not the best, and is very linear, but still good.

Another one I say getting is Demon Souls... Now don't expect to get this game or understand it right away... in fact.... YOU WILL DIE OVER AND OVER AGAIN! This games is very very hard, but yet it is very good.

Dragon Age Orgins yet another RPG... This is very good rpg (to me the best one bioshock made.) Warning this game does lag a little, so make sure to have two saves just in case ;) But you create your character and pick their starting point, and you can choose many side quest, the game itself is kinda short, but with side quest and everything and if you replay the game with a new character it can be very long and fun.

Oh one game I forgot...

Batman: Arkham Asylum The only super hero game I have ever liked, and I'm looking forward to the sequel, I mean this game is very addicting, and you get a fun little bonus after you beat it at the end ;). But seriously even if you don't like super hero games, I think you will really like this one.

I've just read that there's a PS3 Call of Duty Black Ops Bundle that lets you get a 160GB PS3 + Call of Duty Black Ops for $300 so you're better off getting that since you'll be getting Black Ops for free with a PS3 that way. Not sure if it's online exclusive or not, I doubt it though, but it is available on gamestop.com and amazon.com. So it looks like you'll be getting Black Ops anyway. :neomon:

Borderlands? Is it a shooter, or an adventure game? I haven't looked it up yet. And sure, if I get it.... :britt:
A bit of both, really. You get to explore wastelands, driving vehicles etc...but you shoot things. There are four character classes to suit your preferences, in fact: Hunter, Siren, Soldier and Beserker, which spices the gameplay up a bit. You level up and unlock abilities depending on which character you pick, as well. They call it a "Shooter RPG" but I see that as a contradiction in terms. xD

So Bioshock 1 or 2? Or both? xD Is that the game with the alien armory looking dude? I think I remember playing Bioshock and liking it very much. :D
Definetely the first. I'd suggest getting the second only if you see it cheap, and playing it afterwards...its still fun, and by the time you've finished the first, playing as a Big Daddy (that would be the guy in the diving suit with the freaky little girl sitting on him. xD) and having your own little sisters will be very appealing, but...eh. The main reason I recommend BioShock is because of the atmosphere, and because Andrew Ryan is an interesting character. The second just doesn't live up to it, but its still good~

I've played Mass Effect one, and loves it. A little hard for me (I'm a SNES and N64 girl) to play, I liked it a lot.
:yay:

NieR? Is that its actual name, or is it an abbreviation? Sounds great to me, especially if it has a great soundtrack. I think that makes half the game. Believable music, that is. xD

Thanks for adding to the list, Lezard! :33
Its the actual name...its also the name of the protagonist, although nobody calls him that, and you can name him yourself. xD
Obligatory NieR soundtrack sharing! :gasp:
...yeah, I cannot stress this enough. That track is for a settlement built into the side of a mountain. It really gives off the feeling that you're about to fall off at any second...plus some crazy stuff goes on there. xD
Plus one more, because I love this theme...oh, and a trailer, just because.

You're quite welcome~
If you're interested in RPGs as well, I've got a ton I'd recommend you try...since you said you liked shooters and fighters, I was trying to stick to those...NieR is a special case, because its such an epic game and I think everyone should experience it. It was made by the developers of Drakengard, if you ever played that~

@Justice Ramza:

My mother wanted Dragon Age Orgins because she thought it was about dragons (she loves dragons!). But then she heard it has some naughty stuff in it and was like "never buy that game! :C". That's why I have to buy God of War III secretly lol I'm sure I can get her to say yes though. If there's naughty stuff, I sure as heck won't be doing any of it lol

I almost got it like ten times for Xbox. Can you be a girl warrior? :33 If I can, I'm totally getting it. xD

Is Batman: Arkham Asylum on Xbox? If so, I played it, the demo of course. I liked jumping down on people. Kinda reminded me of Assassin's Creed, so I liked it. :P

@Lezard Valeth:
Shooter RPG? That sounds really interesting. And classes? Like the old Final Fantasy games? That's even better xD

Are the Bioshock games online? I don't mind if they are because I'd still get it, just curious. It would definitely add to the game.

HOLY SNAP! The NieR is amazing! Sounds like God of War and some music I listen to a lot! Makes it worth it to buy just to listen to xD

I haven't played Drakengard (what is it about), but if you have more suggestions please share! I'll even look into other genres I haven't listed. Anything fun and worth it :D

@Vircon:
*hisses* Amazon!

That's an amazing deal! But sadly my 100$ card (won it on a site) is at Target :(

I could save up some more, use the target card on games and then buy the system at Amazon though its my sworn enemy. How long does the deal last? Also, is that a slim? I can't tell and I don't want a Phat model xD

I just checked and Target.com has the same bundle as well so I am guessing you can find it pretty much anywhere that sells video games, online or offline. Target.com also has Mortal Kombat for $40 as well. I'm not sure if that's exclusive to Target.com or not though.

I'm not sure how long it'll last but since CoD is popular, it may or may not be hard to find so I'd track it down the first chance you get. Also yes it is a Slim. They stopped making the original models a few years ago so they're more expensive than the slim.

Ah! Thanks so much Vircon! Okay, I will be getting the bundle so I'll be able to get a game still. So Black Ops is out. xD

*That means possibly 2 o3 three games total. Yay! :33*

Shooter RPG? That sounds really interesting. And classes? Like the old Final Fantasy games? That's even better xD
Well, all it really means is that its a standard FPS with a level-up system, so your skill acquisition is reasonably balanced. But yeah, it works really well~
You could say that, yeah. They can all use the same weapons, just some of them are better at it than others: Hunters specialise in sniper rifles, for example. Each class has its own unique talents as well. Sirens can cloak themselves, Soldiers can set down miniature turrets, Hunters can summon this awesome little hawk that homes in on enemies, and Berserkers can...well, go berserk. xD

Are the Bioshock games online? I don't mind if they are because I'd still get it, just curious. It would definitely add to the game.
BioShock 2 has online multiplayer, yeah. I've never played it online though, since I have the games on the 360 and I refuse to pay for Xbox Live. xD

HOLY SNAP! The NieR is amazing! Sounds like God of War and some music I listen to a lot! Makes it worth it to buy just to listen to xD
Yes, it does indeed :griin:
Practically the entire OST is vocal, and of the same quality, although
One of the best things about NieR is that you don't have to replay the entire game to get the multiple endings, as well: you start halfway through it, and more gets added as well.

I haven't played Drakengard (what is it about), but if you have more suggestions please share! I'll even look into other genres I haven't listed. Anything fun and worth it :D
Drakengard was this batshit insane PS2 game where you got to fly around on a dragon and fight on the ground...there was a sequel, but it wasn't as good, because it actually made sense. The original Drakengard is connected to NieR by the fourth ending. It just helps piece a few things together. xD

Well, since you've got God of War on your list, I'm going to recommend Dante's Inferno. It's like GoW...just set in a medieval interpretation of Hell. Dante has about as much character as Kratos does (that is to say, none whatsoever) but its still a pretty awesome game. The circles of Hell are quite well designed, and the enemy designs are both what you'd expect (horned demons, corpses, etc) and what you wouldn't (unbaptized babies with scythe arms, whores with scorpion tails, etc) as well. Oh, and it has a fantastic soundtrack as well~

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow might be worth looking into as well; unlike GoW and Dante's Inferno, it has a more adventure-based approach to things. You get a nice balance of combat, adventuring, and puzzles...which you can also conveniently skip, so you won't get stuck and frustrated if you can't do a puzzle...which is good, because some of them were actually quite challenging. xD
...and Patrick Stewart narrates the entire thing. You don't get much better than that :wacky:

If you're having issues with parents and can't get GoW or Dante's Inferno, Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes would more than satisfying your need for a game where you just kick the living crap out of everything. It's wholesale massacre on a considerably larger scale, only without the excessive blood. It has multiple characters and stages...it also has a two-player mode, which is nice. xD

RPG-wise, I'd suggest looking into Hyperdimension Neptunia or Trinity Universe, one of the two - they're the same sort of game (dungeon-crawling turn-based RPG) just with different strengths and weaknesses. Neptunia has a thoroughly aggravating healing system, but the cast, voice acting and script are easily the best in an RPG to date. I've never laughed so much at a NIS game. It can be aggravating at times, but the dialogue will keep you playing.

Trinity Universe is still pretty entertaining, but its much better designed, gameplay wise. The battle system isn't quite as clunky, which might make it a better choice. I just bought both, but if you're on a limited budget...humour vs. gameplay, take your pick. xD

If you were a fan of FFXII, I'd suggest waiting for White Knight Chronicles II to come out (next week) and get that. It comes with a tidied-up version of the first one, and its very reminiscent of FFXII...not quite as good (/bias) but still fairly enjoyable. Since the second one picks up from where the first left off, I'd imagine it is more of the same thing~

Star Ocean: The Last Hope International is definetely your best bet for an RPG if you're not a turn-based person. The storyline is pretty good, the characters are hit-and-miss (I don't see why people have issues with the voice acting, but there is a Japanese option in the PS3 version, which would solve that problem) but the soundtrack is incredible, the battle system is far more involving and addicting than other RPGs (i.e. FFXIII, which prefers to involve the player as little as possible) and it'll last you quite a long time as well; its a fairly long game.

Hunted: Demon's Forge might also be something to look into. I just started playing it, but already I'm fairly impressed. It promotes teamwork between the two main characters, and you can play it online (so, again, if need a partner :britt:) and, so far, the dialogue has been fairly entertaining and the gameplay pretty solid. Its more of a third-person action/adventure game than an RPG, but its fairly promising.

Try Flower for a completely different experience. It can be your zen mode game when you want a break from shooting/hacking stuff or other action-packed games.

Red Dead Redemption, especially the Undead Nightmare campaign is a lot of fun too. Zombies and wild west.

Assassin's Creed series, try that out...

If you want to try something ball-crushing that you may like, Demon's Souls. Inhumanly hard, but really great.

And if you wanna give an older, alternative title a shot, look for Folklore.
