How many people who went to play this game actually quit some % through the game? I keep hearing all these people who quit some distance into the game. That surprises me, honestly. It wasn't the best FF game but it certainly held my interest long enough to complete it. What also surprises me is that some people have played through the game multiple times they enjoyed it so much.

I actually bought FFXII and Twilight princess right around the same time, and...at the time, I came up with a "I'm never going to finish a game again" rule. Even the games that I have played in the past; I refuse to complete them 100% for the sake of drawing out the plot. When it comes down to the last battle...I quit...and replay, or play another game.

I really do looooove FFXII; it's very different. The problem is that the game was rushed. And instead of laying the plot out like it should have been, the directors simply did "follow ups" on the parts that they didn't have time to do; e.g. when you see that screen with a 5 page narrative about what's going on.

I think this is the best Final Fantasy in years ever since the likes of FFVII. The world of Ivalice isn't small unlike Spira. I'm still in the middle of my first play, but I'm only up to the part where you go to Giruvegan through the Golmore Jungle and Feywood. I'm trying to get as much percentage as I can because generally, it's for fun. Love the hunts, side quests and so on ... :P

I've played through it once and I did enjoy it. I haven't completed the file yet as I still have some hunts to do, but I went through to the final boss and watched the ending. I may actually play through it again though I have so many games lined up it will probably be awhile before I do.

I completed it once and got halfway through it when i tried to play it again, then i got too much schoolwork so i gave up. now im replaying FFVII ^_^

It is an awesome game though, and one day i will complete it again.

Rushed????
You do realize this game was in development for 4 years, right Rhea?

Anyways, my first playthrough I got to the Leviathan. I quit cause I couldnt beat the boss. I only had the save point in the ship and I refused to lvl up enough to beat the "boss" in there.

Put it off for 3 months.

Started over from scratch a few weeks ago and beat it with about 65+ hours.

I think the problem most people have with this game is that they play it wrong. The game relies on you lvling up a lot. Also, managing your gambits so these battles dont become a chore and dungeon crawling doesnt seem like forever. Also, the only equipment you'll really need at all through the whole game is heavy armor, sword, and shield. I was having a hard time till I switched all my varied equipment to fit this.

And the pacing of the story is just off. They make you walk A LOT. And all the plot consists of till near the end is, "Gotta go to this dungeon and get the shard." It wears thin.

Its not my favourite FF, but I enjoyed playing it and found it worth playing. I loved the voice acting enough to get me through it.

I loved the game, Only thing needed was the story line. lol.

I didn't quit. I was too interested in the battle system to even think about qutting.

Oh i'm a total quitter. I quit 54 hours into it at the Stillshrine of Miriam. Know why?

1. deepest thing i'd found about someone other than Ashe was Fran's approximate age.

2. it requires too much leveling. I dont mind leveling in an RPG, i expect it, but when i'm 54 hours into a game and only halfway through because of all the leveling i've had to do, i'm not happy. I'm bored.

3. there's nothing intriguing about any of the characters stories or personalities to make me want to keep playing the game to see what happens to them. They're just there and they're just boring.

Of course those are all just my opinions. But that's why i'm a quitter. I quit in November last year, TRIED to pick up on it again last month, couldnt get into it.

I got the game the day it came out. :/ I know I can beat the game but I just don't feel like trying. I started playing FFXII while I was still playing WoW. Leveling in FFXII was a huge let down. I was sick of leveling and I stopped playing.

A few days I finally started playing again. I think I'll just play the game using cheat codes and rush through dungeons. I don't have time to sit around and level. I'm only curious about the plot.

OBJECTION!
There's a clear contradiction in this evidence.
Anyone who can bear playing an MMO can deal with just about any level of grinding/boredom, it's a scientific fact.

FFXII - At the moment I've completed the Japanese version, and have an English savefile where I'm trying to cover all the quests and secrets I missed the first time, unfortunately I've got my hands on other games needy of time and attention in the meantime.:worried:

I completed multiple playthroughs of it but that was months ago and im onto other games now.

Well I haven't played it.
But I wanna know the opinion of others. I've heard in many places that FF12 is a bad game and that it sucks. I don't belive it but I don't wanna risk it( but still I have plenty of time to think about it because pcsx2 list of compatibility mark FF12 only as ingame, so until it becomes playable I have a lot of time to think it through). So I ask of you hardcore final fantasy fans....is it worth??:D

I will play through it once without a guide and then with a guide to get as close to 100% as possible.

I used to think "Hmm this is pretty good"

Now I think "Wow, this fucking fails" The plot is weak, nothing made me want to play the game to the end, there are no huge WOW moments in the plot.

I got to Tiamat and thought "Fuck this"

I'm going to part-exchange it in the game shop soon before it gets too cheap because people realise it sucks.

*is like uber shocked by above poster, but just laughs off the surprise*

If many other people like it, then it obviously is not a complete failure is it now? :P
I'll be making multiple playthroughs. Right now, I haven't played in a while, I've been doing other stuff - revising for exams mainly. Still loving the game as ever of course.

I quit my playing when I first came to the Balfonheim Port. I kept thinking "This must be interesting in some point of the game", and kept that thought until Balfonheim. The I got tired of boring characters, boring story and boring battle system, and started playing Suikoden V for the second time.

Although it's quite different from other FFs, I think it is worth it. It's always best to find these things out for yourself. Besides, as it's been out awhile, it'll be a Greatest Hit ($20) eventually. As many have complained, the story is the weakest since FFV. However, it's a long, involved play, and with the amount of battles you get into, I didn't mind the automation in the battle system. I think it could have been much more successful had a separate team taken over the work on the story.

But in response to the overall direction of this thread, I played through it once, and though I did enjoy it, I did to a lesser extent than several previous games. I knew it would be a game I wouldn't replay as much as I had with X, IV, VI, or IX.

I quit playing it for now. But I wouldn't end up selling my copy because it would be just a waist of $60..

It's not a bad game in the least, nor does it suck. It just fails as a Final Fantasy game because of the lack of character development and an interesting story.

I think one thing that makes this game so hard to stay interested in is the battle system. Now many people love it, and it is fun, but the problem lies in that it takes so much EXP and LP to reach any sufficient level and obtain decent skills. Sure, there's an item that doubles LP, but that doesnt do much for you when you get 2 LP instead of 1 LP (most monsters dont give shit for EXP, it's worse than IX's AP system). To me, it feels like the entire game is just a showcase for the new battle system, so they made it require ludicrous amounts of fighting just to reach the next level. In any other game, 54 hours into it my characters would have been in their 50's or 60's. But in XII, 54 hours 52 minutes 42 seconds into it, my highest level is 32. The fighting makes the game long, not the story.

You got the collector's edition too? I'm glad i got it as a birthday present so i didnt have to waste my money on it xD But i wont sell it, i figure as a collectors edition it'll be worth more later when supply runs thin.
