Recommend me an RPG thread

Parasite eve 2 - A mix of Resident evil & Final fantasyish thats works well the story is decent enough but one of the best features of this game is that i find it easy to just pick up and play.
Zone of enders - yes it does have a story buy its all really about flying & fighting about in big robots ;)

Hey man, try to add a bit more into your post when replying in topics.

Maybe tell us why you liked these games or would recommend them to anyone. It'll be more useful to someone coming by and taking your post into consideration rather than just looking at it and ignoring it.

I have to agree with most of the posts already on here:

Any FF you havent already played
Xenosaga I-III
Parasite Eve
Phantasy Star

And I dont think this one has been mentioned, probably because its a GameCube game, but Tales of Symphonia . . . a absolutely loved this game. If you have a GameCube or Wii, I definately recommend playing it.

I'm not a big fan of Jap RPG's, save for FF... so a pre-no to whomever suggests one. I'd really like a good USA/Euro RPG but I've already played the balls off of Fable, Fable II, Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Mass Effect. Got any thoughts on a good RPG that I could play through? I thought about putting some more time into Overlord, but the only thing left to do is get the achievements and that basically just involves spam killing a ton of the same creatures over and over again.

Any thoughts?

I would recommend if you're looking for a western, as in wild west RPG, the Wild Arms series. They're fairly good, and usually have unique battle systems.

If you enjoyed playing Fallout 3, why not play the first two Fallouts? Also, I would recommend Bioshock if you liked Fallout 3. It's an FP shooter but it has a novel worthy narrative to it, and is just an incredibly fun game to play.

If you haven't already, then check out Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire asap. Both games should be pretty easy to find cheap for PC and are also available on Xbox Live. If you don't mind going a bit more old school, then Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Neverwinter Nights, and Planescape: Torment are absolutely fantastic western RPG's. Just make sure to have a PC with Windows XP available. I doubt any of them will run on Vista

I'm pretty sure that he means a western developed RPG. As in a game made by an American or European developer ;)

I borrrowed my cousin's DS and I'm looking for good RPGs. I absolutely loved FFIV on the PSX and am tempted to get it for the DS but I rather wait until I play new ones. I think I narrowed it down to the following:

FFIII
Valkryie Profile DS
Desaega(sp)

I hear great things about Valkryie Profile but don't think the DS version is a port, but rather a sequel or something. How is it?

I'm kicking myself in the butt for blowing my chance to own Xenogears 10 years ago:randompoke:

If you want some oldies, try Grandia or Grandia II. Those games were quite amazing for their time.
Mod Edit: Can you put more effort into your posts please. Such as why they were amazing? Thank you =]

well, providing you have an xbox 360 or ps3,here are some greats rpgs that changed my entire perspective on gaming
360
1.mass effect
2too human
3.oblivion
4.fallout 3
5.blue dragon
6.star ocean last hope
the first 4 are real time battles, mass effect being more of a third person shooter with rpg elements, free roaming too
fallout is a more perfectly done rpg combining aspects of three genres, rpg, fps and survival horror, and takes place 270 years in the post apocalyptic horror, oblivion is the sister game to fallout 3,it takes place in a more fantasy world, you will log in at least 100 hours of gameplay with oblivion,75 with fallout providing you get the broken steel expansion,i have 246 hours on oblivion,49 on fallout,im not even halfway done with all the quest, star ocean is for those who liked the ones for psp,but there is a terrible flaw, the game is 3 discs, but sometimes you will have to switch between discs to switch between planets, too humanis a nicely done rpg,it can get confusing and the control scheme is a bit eerie at the beginning, but, its a must buy,and blue dragon is for an avid ff gamer who wants a long story to occupie(dont know if i spelt that right)there time and for those who get in dept with a story

Though I'm sure they've already been said:

For PS3
Persona 3
Persona 4
Eternal Poison
Any other Shin Megami Tensei title

Disgaea

I'm going to stick my neck on the line and recommend the somewhat overlooked Divinity II: Ego Draconis, for Xbox360 and PC. It came out on the same day as Assassin's Creed II (which might be why its been almost completely ignored; that, and the fact the Dragon Age Origins is dominating the market as well) and its quite enjoyable. Whilst the customisation options (only three classes, and very little in the way of designing your character at the beginning), originality of the story (dragon slayers, silver eyes, reading minds...its all rather cliche) and loading times (you have to install this and play it from your harddrive if you want loading times that aren't literally up to half an hour...) leave a little to be desired, its a solid and enjoyable RPG, similar to Oblivion in style only, unlike Oblivion, you can change into a dragon. Think Drakengard, if you've ever played that.

Its quite challenging in that there are no respawning enemies and it doesn't hold your hand at all. You'll get told what to do a little at the beginning, but it'll leave you to your own devices after that. There are tons of sidequests, and the dialogue is absolutely brilliant. Its had me giggling at several points already, mainly in the replies you can give, as well as some of the off-hand, entirely random comments the NPCs can make.

I'm enjoying it, anyway. It just requires a little patience. Maybe once I've finished it I'll review it. Until then...give it a look-in, maybe.

Desaega(sp)

That's pretty jumbled, but it looks like you mean Disgaea, but I could be wrong...

I still need to check out one of those Disgaea games. :hmmm: I would definitely recommend Phantom Brave: We Meet Again for the Nintendo Wii, gotta be about the best strategy RPG I've ever played, it is a truly awesome game.

It was good enough to get a port/remake to Wii, a while after it's original release on the PS2, which was several years ago, the We Meet Again one for Wii has a lot added so it is absolutely worth it to get it for Wii rather than PS2. ;)

It has great music, excellent gameplay, and the story is very good. :awesome: I like the characters too, and since I like Wolves, I like to use a Werewolf character or two in battle, they're cool imo, but some others may say they look weird. :/
