Alyss was a little sad that Nina had set her down. She couldn’t figure out why, though. Something about being near her just made Alyss feel… safe. And she rather liked that. It was so… odd. Alyss couldn’t place her finger on it. Nina had beaten her senseless one minute, and now Alyss couldn’t help but be around her the next minute. If anything, Alyss should have wanted to rip her head off, and if it had been anyone else in the world, she would have wanted blood. However, when in this case… she just couldn’t help but be fascinated by Nina.

Nina had mentioned that they were to head towards the central district. And as far as Alyss was concerned, that was a brilliant idea. As far as it went, going there couldn’t be any worse than staying here. Turning around, she saw what Lilura had wanted them to get away from… There were dark fumes coming from Nina’s home. Alyss didn’t know what it was… but it looked awful, and rather unpleasant.

“Well… I see now what Lilura wanted us out,” Nina said. “We have no choice now but to go forward.” Alyss simply nodded her head, she didn’t have much to say, but she was getting rather tired. They were heading towards the central district of town; that much was clear. There, they could perhaps find others… maybe even some help. However, what bothered Alyss was where they were going to sleep. Surely they could find something out? Perhaps they could find a place to take a load off for the night. After all, it had been a long day, and the only rest that Alyss had gotten had come from Nina pounding her head into the ground.

Alyss started walking along side Nina rather closely. If anything went wrong, she wanted to be near her at all costs. Her only hope was that Nina wouldn’t find her annoying for walking so close. However, the question of sleep did bother her… and what about food? Would they be able to find something to eat? Before Alyss could stop herself, she asked Nina perhaps the dumbest question in the world. “Hey, Nina… do you think you could hunt?”

It just slipped out. How could I be so stupid?! Sure, it was a simple curious question, but it wasn’t one that you simply asked someone that just got done beating your brains in. However, if she did answer, at least Alyss would know that they had a possibility for food… however barbaric it would be.

As Nina turned from the house back over to Alyss, she noticed something as she glimpsed more at her facial features. Despite looking a bit beaten, she seemed exhausted as well. Light lines of purple were forming underneath her eyes, which had shown that she didn't get much sleep within the time that has passed, nor before Nina had met her for the first time. She was well aware that they, with the help of the more benign demons, would have to slay off the enemy and their main source, but considering how much time that would take, it would be draining of their regular needs. Seeing Alyss the way she was, she very much looked vulnerable.

As the two of them started to walk away from the possessed abode, some wind had blew past Nina, and she could detect the stench of death in the atmosphere - not from what had died at her house, but what they may be heading towards. Luckily, from this neighborhood, the central district was only took 10 minutes to go to on foot. As Nina contemplated, Alyss' voice suddenly came through.

"Hey, Nina . . . do you think you could hunt?" She heard Alyss ask, and when she glanced back over at her, her face clearly read that she didn't mean for that to come out loud. But now that she had brought it up, that suddenly reminded Nina of something else they'd need - assuming the grills at most of the restaurants were now busted up. Sleep . . . and food. At the moment, Nina was totally hungry, but she knew the time would come again that she would be. If there was any wildlife still around, that would have to be their main source of nourishment.

"I don't see why I can't." She replied to Alyss with a side long glance. Somehow, that had brought back a memory of actually being part of a family once. "It's weird. My sister used to be into that kind of thing as a hobby, along with my dad. But it looks like it's something I'll have to do for our lives." She snickered somewhat at that. It didn't seem too crazy that her family would suddenly enter into her thoughts at a time like this. Grasping a little bit more at the knife in her pocket, she couldn't help but wonder if they survived too - despite that chances were low that she would even mourn for them if they hadn't. Over the years, she had taken no pity for those who had mistreated her.

Since that topic had suddenly stuck to her mind like glue, Nina wondered what Alyss' family was like. Even though that may had been the very least of her worries this day, they might as well discuss something that may get rid of some of the tension on the way to the Central District. "This is going to sound out of nowhere, but how do you feel about your family right now?"

Alyss was glad that Nina didn’t find her question too odd. In fact, Nina had actually answered her question… which in all reality, made Alyss happy. If Nina could go out and hunt, at least they would have a form of getting food whenever supplies in stores ran out or went bad. Alyss could cook whatever Nina brought back if need be. She wasn’t very good at cooking, but she was sure she could learn. It simply wouldn’t be right to have Nina hunt and cook while Alyss simply sat around all day and did nothing. In fact, that was the exact behavior that Moh seemed to despise.

It was odd, yet refreshing to hear Nina talk about herself a bit. Even if she was only describing her family, it was still nice to hear. Somehow, it made everything seem a bit normal. Yet, the feeling of normality was being slowly pushed aside by the smell in the air as they continued towards the Central District. As they continued walking, Alyss was starting to become slowly aware of just how tired she was. She let escape a brief yawn as they continued walking.

She couldn’t help but wonder if Nina was tired at all. From her point of view, she certainly didn’t seem tired in the slightest. Alyss greatly admired that. Even after all that had happened, and all that Nina had to do, she continued going. As Alyss was thinking about it, Nina had spoke up again. “This is going to sound out of nowhere,” Nina had started. Alyss didn’t know where she was going, but it couldn’t be anything bad. “But how do you feel about your family right now?”

Alyss paused for a brief second and stopped walking. She hadn’t had a single thought about her family in ages. Beginning to walk again, she spoke somewhat softly as she spoke of them. “I have not seen or heard from my family since I was sixteen, to be honest. They were full of superstitious nonsense, and I was not. Eventually, we were at ends… and they kicked me out a few days after my sixteenth birthday. We have not spoken since.” Suddenly, she found herself wondering if they were still alive.

“They had… ways about them that I never liked. They practiced religious occult nonsense and I took up kendo lessons and played with my computer all day. They did not like that too much… we did not get along.” Alyss sighed as she thought back on the events that led to her living alone. “Luckily, I made a very good living being an information broker. It was… rather fun, really. I couldn’t care less for my family. I have made it this far without them, I can go further. To hell with them.”

Alyss gasped, she hadn’t spoken like that in a very long time. “Well, what about you? What about your family? I am… interested… if you do not mind me asking, that is.”

((Okay, getting sick of waiting for him to respond))
Robert Masters
Moving into Residential Area

The lady was purely psycho, and the other guy seemed to be so deep in thought that he might as well have been a stone wall. Robert looked to down to Ammy. "Let's head further in. We might find other survivors." Robert spoke.

There was something about the woman that neither Robert nor Ammy liked, and Ammy seemed more wary of her than Robert was. The wolfess dashed down the streets and towards the more densely populated area of the Residential District.

As they arrived, Robert saw a little girl being ganged up upon by a small horde of demons. The girl seemed to be about five years old and was swinging a stuffed teddy bear at them as she was backing away.

Ammy began to uncoil the beads from around her neck. Robert looked over to the girl and shouted to her. "Run this way!" The girl glanced to the side and at that instant, one of the demons lunged at her, but Ammy's razor sharp whip of beads sliced through the demon, stopping it dead in its tracks. The girl made a mad dash for Robert and Ammy while Ammy's flaming whip of beads cut the small horde to ribbons.

But the horde was a prelude of what was to come. A large iron golem emerged from the large pool of demon blood. This one wielded a rather large sword. The golem looked like a suit of armor for someone the size of a sumo. Ammy attacked with the beads, but the attack just scratched the suit. The beads wouldn't be enough.

Once Robert picked up the girl and placed her on Ammy's back with him, the wolfess lunged to the right to avoid the armored demon's blade. Retracting and remolding her divine instrument, the beads melted and reformed into the shape of a giant blue sword, upon the handle of which was a golden crescent moon emblem. The sword floated pointed upwards and towards Robert.

Robert could only guess that she wanted him to wield it. Robert's hand grasped the handle, and suddenly he felt a rush of power flow through his body. Ammy jumped backwards to avoid yet another sword attack. Suddenly, a female voice pierced into his mind.

<Decendant of Nagi, decendant of Sussano, the one who's blood has slain the devil Oorochi, use this strength that has been passed down from days of old to you to defend these people. I will aid you with my power.> Robert shook his head from disbelief before he dismounted Amaterasu.

"How is it you're speaking to me now?" Robert asked as Ammy backed away from Robert. <There is no time. Slay the iron beast and trust in your destiny.> Amaterasu spoke. Robert saw the iron golem charging at him. Robert decided it was now or never and chose to put his faith in Amaterasu's words. Robert charged to meet the golem head-on, but instead of intercepting the golem's sword, Robert jumped straight up. He was surprised at how high he could jump while the power of the sacred sword was in his hands. As Robert fell downwards, he brought the sword crashing down upon the golem. As he did so, he noticed a trail of ink which seemed to come from the sword, as if the blade itself were being guided.

The sword cut straight through the golem, cleaving it in twain. As the two halves of the demon crashed, Robert looked at the sword in his hand. Its appearance was the same as the blade used by Nagi, according to the picture scrolls. The little girl was still on Ammy's back, clinging for dear life, not aware that the danger had past. Robert looked at Ammy.

"So it's true. You are the great Goddess Amaterasu. Then all of father's stories..." Robert began to speak before trailing off in thought. <Yes. All of those battles, the arc, Oorochi, Yami, and the heroes that were your ancestors. It all happened. However, in order to come back to the mortal realm to help you save humanity, I cast aside the majority of my divine powers into the constellations so that I could be summoned. As to your question before, I can speak to you so long as you hold my divine instrument's sword form in your hand.> Ammy explained.

The little girl looked up, seeing the danger had past, but also that the man before her was speaking to the wolf, which was only responding in yips and barks. "You know what doggie is saying?" the little girl asked. Robert gave a bit of a chuckle and gave a nod of his head. "In a strange way, yeah." he replied before looking to Ammy once more. "So I take it from what you're saying, Oorochi is back." he spoke.

<I do not know. However, this world is facing a crisis greater than ever before. It is at a turning point, and is in danger not just from the demons, but from itself as well. I'm sure you must have felt something from that woman before. Humans will clash over ideals, even if the world around them burns. If humanity is to survive, it must be united, but it cannot be allowed to unite under a corrupt, power-hungry leader, else all will suffer.> Amaterasu explained.

"Makes sense. However, now that you're here, how do we go about getting your powers back? You say I'm Nagi's descendant, but without your help I'm just another guy. The last time I fought a demon on my own, I almost bit the dust, even after I used my strongest strikes." Robert said.

<Time and circumstance are all I need. When I can manage to pirce through the dark clouds above, I can call upon at least one of my spiritual vassals to release one of my brush powers to me. But for now, we should find more survivors and gather them in a place that is easily defensible.> Amaterasu spoke. As she did, the sword fell apart and remolded back into beads that hovered around Amaterasu's neck.

Robert chuckled as he hopped back onto the back of the giant white and red-tattooed wolfess. "Easily defensible, huh? Nice choice of words, considering there's no truly 'safe' place anymore." Robert jested before they began to look around for more survivors.

After Nina had brought the question up, only a few seconds had passed until she realized that Alyss had stopped walking, looking deep in thought. Stopping in her own tracks, she looked back at the redhead curiously before she had started walking again, but a little more slowly than the two of them were before. “I have not seen or heard from my family since I was sixteen, to be honest. They were full of superstitious nonsense, and I was not." Now that Nina thought about it again, she wondered out of curiosity if they were to believe in the things and beings that she wrote about in her job. Well, used to write about, until Lilura began to make her existence known and kept running amok with the deletion of some rare info.

Obviously her demon had shown some care for
these beings, and if Alyss' family had believed what they read, if they ever were to read it, they'd technically be right; from what Nina had discovered today. She had began to wonder if they were the type of people that were very paranoid about specific situations to the point where they wouldn't go out living as much as they used to. As Nina wondered, Alyss spoke on. "Eventually, we were at ends… and they kicked me out a few days after my sixteenth birthday. We have not spoken since.”

So she was kicked out just like Nina, only the reasons were ironically opposite of each other. Alyss was kicked out because she didn't follow the same superstitious beliefs that her family had, and Nina was kicked out because it was rumored that she superstitious herself and worshiped beings that made her that way; although that wasn't true at all, her parents didn't want to take any risks. Some loving family that was.
“Luckily, I made a very good living being an information broker. It was… rather fun, really. I couldn’t care less for my family. I have made it this far without them, I can go further. To hell with them.”

Nina eyes widened slightly at the sound of that and she glanced over at Alyss. She had gasped after speaking, so she must have caught herself by surprise as well. In contrast with what Nina had seen from Alyss today, this was a side she wasn't expecting out of her at all. She assumed there was the usual Alyss attitude, and then there was Alyss when she gets pounded mercilessly by a woman and a mystic being to the point of getting deeply hurt. In fact, Nina kind of liked this side of her.

“Well, what about you? What about your family? I am… interested… if you do not mind me asking, that is." Nina's eyes had shifted from Alyss, to the scenery in front of her, and then slightly down to the ground as she thought about the mental timeline of living with her own family. As it replayed in her head, she found a few words to say.

"I don't mind at all, really. It's funny how the reason of why we're at where we are now are odd opposites." She closed her eyes briefly, as she had just realized that there weren't as many demonic howls being heard from afar as there used to be. She would cherish the peace now while it lasted. "My family was terrible at raising me, so as a kid, I ended up having to take care of myself while they focused on more 'vital' things like gambling or stripping for extra funds for themselves."

Some of the memories played back as if on cue. Nina had only been ten years old when she found out that her older sister was secretly an exotic dancer when she caught her sneaking in the house one night. It was a wonder why her parents never questioned where she got the money for most of the expensive things she bought for herself, all while Nina was questioned for every new item she had, cheap or expensive, seeing that she hadn't learned how to start earning her own money yet.

"In my family, I was considered being absorbed in 'superstitious nonsense' everyone called it. I was always looked down on by them because I wasn't part of the tradition most 'normal people' were a part of. Because of them, I nearly took my own life when I was just a tween. But as you can see - and if you can't, there's a problem - I managed to survive." She thought that throwing that little remark in there would lighten the story up a notch, seeing as whenever she talked to anyone about her family and how she grew up, it wasn't the most happy thing that's ever been heard.

"It wasn't too long before I too was kicked out of the household, because some paranoid locals were spreading rumors around that I was a demon worshiper or something. Kind of ironic how I'm seeing them now and one will do anything that I will, huh?" I can try and find a new master, you know. Nina was interrupted in the head. She had resisted the urge to laugh at that. "Despite that what was claimed back then seemed irrational, considering I didn't even believe demons existed until now, my interest in mythology and fantasy led me to an excellent job. So while my family, if they're still alive, believe that I'm rotting in the streets currently, they've gone in way over their head."

Well, technically, if you don't make the right choices in the situation we're in now, you'll both be rotting on these streets. Lilura once again spoke out. Some words of encouragement those were. Ignoring the serpent woman's remarks, Nina's eyes slanted over at Alyss with a grin formed slightly at the corner of her mouth. "So it seems that we both were booted, and are actually living better now because of it. Looks like we have more in common than we originally thought."

The surrounding moans from what Alyss assumed to be other demons in the area seemed to have quieted down as Nina talked. It was odd… even though their reasons for being kicked out were the opposite, their stories were very similar. Alyss’ family was full of unreliable morons and from the sound of it, so was Nina’s. Of course, Alyss didn’t say that out loud. “So it seems that we both were booted, and are actually living better now because of it. Looks like we have more in common than we originally thought.”

Alyss grinned somewhat, “Well, yes… I suppose we do. However, I do not think that I could ever muster up the strength to pound a person’s head into the ground.” Alyss giggled somewhat as she said it; letting Nina know she wasn’t holding a grudge. You know, Alyss… It was Moh; finally speaking to her. I never knew about your past... rather spunky for someone like you. She wasn’t sure if she should take Moh’s words as a complement or not. What exactly did she mean “someone like you”?

However, one thing bothered Alyss just a tad… It had been weighing on her mind for a bit now. “Miss Nina?” Alyss asked. “Well, if you do not mind me saying… I think I am…”, she paused as she started looking for the correct word, “fortunate, to have met you… even if it were by a rather unusual set of events. After all, if not for you, I would have probably died in my apartment… alone… either by a demon attack or a panic attack, one of the two.”

Alyss yawned when she finished. She was getting rather exhausted… but they couldn’t stop now. She was just going to have to tough it out. She would stop when Nina stopped, that’s all there was to it. “Well, at least one good thing has come out of the end of the world. There is now a distinct lack of morons in the world. Just to think… Sarah Palin is dead.” Suddenly, Alyss laughed again. “I never thought I would actually be able to say that. This may sound awful, but that is terrific news, the planet is much better off without people like her in it.”

She hopped she was doing a good job of making light of things. However, part of her doubted that Nina even needed to laugh. It was more of Alyss wanting to reassure herself that things would be fine, and part of her wanting to assure herself that she still of use. What Moh had said to her was eating her up from the inside. If she was still here, she couldn’t have been useless…

It was then that she let her inner fear slip. “I promise I will not be useless to you, Miss Nina. I… I can cook, and given time, I am sure I can fight.” As she said that, Moh was back to attempt to put her down. Oh, sure you can. You’ll be about as useful as a bow with no arrows. Alyss wasn’t going to let Moh get to her again. “Oh, quiet you. What exactly have you contributed to the group? You wounded me. Why? Just so you can show me how useless I am? Did it ever occur to you that I would not be so useless had you not tried to snap my knee in half?”

Alyss voice was picking up. She had already been pushed to tears thrice today, now she was just getting angry. “Of course I am weak. I spent most of my time behind a computer screen. That does not mean I will stay that way, of course. However, as far as I am concerned, I have done more than you! You have done nothing but hurt and pick on me all day. And when push came to shove, what did you do? Nothing; that is what you did. You have put a ridiculous collar on me and shock me with it.”

Before she could say anything else, there was another shock and a slight yelp come from Alyss. Easy there, Alyss… Folding her arms against her chest, Alyss said nothing, but it was clear that she was still a little angry. Turning to Nina, Alyss spoke again. “I am… envious of you at the moment. You do not have to share your head with Moh.”
