[RP] Endless Cry: Final Fantasy VII

Kayne looked as the large dragon ripped itself free from the ground.
The ground almost erupting like a volcano, but instead of lava and molten rock. The roar of a dragon, followed by Bahamut emerged.
Kayne was in slight awe, but his face changed to that of a grin instead, as he looked in his hand. The steal worked, he got himself a potion.
Though, for a range fighter, this materia would not work out that good.
It would be way better for one of the melee class to have it, especially when it evolves into Mug.

He looked at the other materia embedded in his staff. The Enemy Skill.
He dreaded the times that the enemies had to attack him, for him to learn anything.

His eyes drew back to the creature, which where at the mercy of Bahamut's claws for a few seconds.
Judging from the way the Night Fang attacked, it was clear ti was a last desperation attack.
The dude with the baton grew out a grenade. Kayne's eyes widened as the warning came.

Kayne took a few steps away, and crouched. Trying to prepare himself for the shock wave, and possible cave collapse.

-----------------
-Kayne.
[Nothing]

"damn beast" shadow muttered to himself. "why does everything involving darkness have to try and kill me?" shadow then looked towards the beast which was about to die from a combination of bahamut and a grenade. "oh no you don't" shadow said aiming his scythe at the beast. "this one is mine. time to burn little creature" shadow said firing his spell at the dark fang. he then retreated away in case the beast had friends.

With a soft exhale of breath, Yukio would relax his shoulders, and look away from the scope. The battle rifle was held down at his side, as he mustered another pompous grin, even as his eyes flew skyward at the appearance of Bahamut. Yukio was the self-proclaimed master of composure, and as such, he remained looking as calm and cocky as always, even though, he was quite amazed by the appearance of that legendary dragon. A thought occurred to him, and he glanced at the duo of red orbs on the left side of his rifle. He had two summon materia, and he'd be sure to make it known to the little hot-head.

Though he kept his gun on-hand, he stood there, staring at that writhing creature with a growing sense of victory. Yukio has seen his fair share of battles, and he knew that the monster was at it's end. Yet, this monster seemed to cling to life with a vengeance. Yukio almost felt a bit of pity for the poor thing, as his eyes focused on the bleeding, destroyed eye of the beast. Suddenly, the fiend was set in motion, charging wildly, and setting it's sights for the one known as 'Shadow.' "Hey, watch out!!" Yukio shouted over to the man, before the beast tackled him and the familiar sound of tearing flesh could be heard. Yukio ran towards the beast and the injured Shadow, slipping his left hand in his pocket and pulling out a Potion. Flicking off the top of the vial, he would cast the Potion on Shadow, in an effort to heal him enough so he wouldn't be in danger of being knocked out.

It was only then that he heard the kid's warning. Was he seriously throwing a grenade, in that cave, while the monster was attacking that guy?! First he summons Bahamut, then he tries to blow up the place, that kid really wasn't the brightest, was he? Yukio was going to have a few words with him after that monster was finished. Returning his attention to the beast, he watched as the grenade finished the job, hopefully not injuring that guy too much more in the process. After the dust cleared and the aftershock caused by the grenade's explosion had ceased, Yukio would walk straight in the direction of the kid, and grab him by his shirt, pulling him closer to him.

"Would it be too much for you to use just two-neurons-worth of brain power in that head of yours?! We're in a cave, that means closed quarters! That means you give some thought to your surroundings, and not try to bring the whole place crashing down! And throwing a grenade at a monster while it's in the midst of attacking your comrade isn't good team work, either...!" Yukio let go of him, abruptly, and stepped away from him, lifting up his battle rifle and quickly, yet carefully, disassembling it. The pieces were placed back inside of his coat, in their respective slots. He walked over to the man named Shadow, cocking a hip to the side as he asked him: "Are you okay, man?"

So, apparently, Tokugawa Yukio, while he may be obsessed with his flawless appearance and with himself, he still showed some obvious concern with others...even if he didn't show it in the most polite of manners. He sighed with exasperation, as he looked over to Yuffie, who was commenting on their performance. "Aww, Yuffie, couldn't you at least give us a little applause?" He grinned at the attractive 'ninja,' offering up a smile. Tokugawa Yukio was a strange one. He could switch between different emotions with the flip of a switch. Just seconds ago he was scolding Sage like he was some school teacher disciplining a child, and now he was smiling and acting as though nothing happened. He shrugged a bit, snickering at whatever thoughts he left lingering in his mind. So the count so far was: AVALANCHE - 1, Enemies - 0.

"ah yeah i'm fine. this happens to me everyday pretty much" shadow said getting up. "ok which one of you threw the damn grenade and nearly killed me?" shadow said threateningly with his scythe raised.

Firm fingers wrapped around Sage Mallory's pressed white button-up shirt, hoisting him high above ground. A passionate anger flashed across Yukio's cerulean blue eyes, Sage's clear face flashed a bright red in response. The pristine prince spat vehemently, scolding the radical youth on his carelessness. Yukio seemed to wait for a retort, and when none came he released his grip, sending Sage onto his butt. Sage would kill for a scorching comeback to shut that fancy trap up.

Nothing came.

Sage spat the metal ring out of his mouth and glared up at the glowering group commiserating on the other side of the cavern. The gap between them was almost metaphorical. Introspective irony aside, Sage flicked a new cigarette into his mouth and raised his gaze to the stalactite ceiling. It had been easy. The feel of the beasts muzzle brushing up against his hands, the same hands that shook slightly as he thought about it. It had been real god-damned easy!

"ah yeah i'm fine. this happens to me everyday pretty much" came the barely audible confirmation of health from the downed comrade.

"Happens to me ... everyday... huh?" Sage muttered to himself.
That makes that guy a target.

"ok which one of you threw the damn grenade and nearly killed me?"

"That'd be me," Sage blurted out suddenly, "And from how fast you moved, you seem ok. How bout a 'thank you for saving my life'?"

Shadow seemed to be writhing in anger, no doubt embarrassed from being a target. Sage couldn't care less. The whole thing seemed stupid, the rag-tag team managed to effortlessly kill the monster. They should be cheering.

"Psh, wasting my breath huh? Tell ya what why don't you just gimme a light with that fire spell your so anxious about using!"

Kayne stood there idly for a minute, the grenade did less damage to the sorroundings then he had expected.

Kayne regained his posture. There was no way in hell that the Night fang would survive that.
Kaine refastened his staff on his back, and noted that he still had the potion he stole from the creature in his hand.
He put it in his pocket, and was suddenly jolted back to what was happening by a somewhat angry person.
Logical thoguh, as the grenade might have made a few gray hairs on him.

Kayne patted the baton user on the shoulder. And Grinned "how about not aiming as close to team mates next time, eh"
He then turned to the scythe user. "If this happens all the time, should you not be used to it by now" he stated wit ha smile, in a mocking tone.

Kayne left them for themselves for a minute, and loafed over to he dead creature. He stood there, looking into its lifeless eye. Then suddenly stomped on the eye.
"Yep, its F'ed" he muttered to himself. He just wanted to be sure.

He turned towards the group. "Soo-" he started, saying it loud enough to gain everyones attention, or at least this is what he hoped. He held in his hand a small yellow orb, namely the [Steal] materia.
"Anyone want to swap this. I'm really not a melee user myself." he joked, but in all senses true.

shadow looked at the steal materia, then nodded to himself. "sorry, but i don't need it. you guys figure your own way out of here because i don't need a light to see." shadow said then turned and left for the exit.

Open-mouthed and eyes-bulging in horrifying helplessness, Yuffie was frozen to the ground where she stood, gawking at Sage as her line of sight followed the grenade as it spun through the air. The highly volatile device seemed to hum with destructive energy, erupting with it's full power as it impacted against the Dark Fang. Yuffie threw up her pinwheel, using it as a temporary shield as the explosive force shook the entire length of the Forbidden Caves. Ancient dust, dirt and rock flung themselves outwards by the blast radius, and it was minutes later until the dust finally re-settled.

Yuffie sighed deeply, having calmed herself, she turned to the assembled group. "When an opponent has been defeated, the entire team earns rewards for the encounter, however, the player who lands the final death-blow will gain additional rewards. All commands issued after the final attack are, of course, negated."

"Aww, Yuffie, couldn't you at least give us a little applause?"

Eyebrows rising, Yuffie stared at the young man, who seemed to be flashing a quite handsome and winning smile. Shaking her head, Yuffie simply made her way over to Shadow to check that he was ok. His answer set yet another round of eyebrow raising. "Just what kind of team did I pick out here?!" As the series of bantering continued, she turned as Shadow began to make his way towards the exit.

"Sorry, but i don't need it. you guys figure your own way out of here because i don't need a light to see."

Dashing forward with ninja-swiftness, Yuffie cut him off. "Hold it!" She stated, placing her hands onto her hips. "We're not done here just yet." She turned to glance at all of them. "Ok, you defeated ONE easy monster. Do you think that makes you ready to take on ..." She paused, suddenly biting her lip, having been moments from blurting out the truth. "Come on." She whispered, turning in order to head the other way. "Cloud is just up ahead..."

Sage flicked out his baton and ran a finger over the bumps of materia embedded in the weapon. The red one had summoned a massive dragon, its frothing breath had ruptured the caves peacefulness and ruined the beast they fought with powerful scaled arms. The green one just sat there. Pulling out the guidebook Sage studiously located the gems information.

Magic, he thought prying the green materia
[Earth] from its resting place, I won't be needing this. Sage pushed himself to his feet, the whole fiasco with the grenade had been all that jerk in whites fault. The youth couldn't bring him to forget about what happened. He raised the green materia up and pointed it towards Kayne.

"Hey, I think we're better off with each other's stuff. This one has no use to me," he stated plainly as the group began to move further into the cave, "...tsk...looks like we gotta walk and talk."

Kayne smiled, he was offered a [Earth] for his [Steal], this was great, as he was a spell caster, so naturally magic materia would do him great.
Te group began to move, and the one that had the Earth materia stated "...tsk...looks like we gotta walk and talk."
Kayne simply smiled as he started walking as well, "Yep, it indeed does. And I accept your offer" he stated, still smiling.
Kayne walked over to the man "I'm Kayne By the way" as he gave the man the steal materia, and received the earth materia.

He put the earth materia in his staff, and watched as it sat there beside the lightning one. Though, he still did not like how the [Enemy Skill] materia worked, but he hoped that it would come to good use.

guess i still have more fighting. splendid. shadow thought to himself as he turned back towards Yuffie. "if you were going to say sephiroth, i might as well tell you that i already know of him, in more ways then you think." shadow said then walked towards the others. "fine i'll come along and help you guys." shadow noticed a glint of materia and saw the one with the steal materia swap for an earth one. if he uses that materia in here we're all dead. i really hope he thinks twice before using quake. shadow nodded to himself, then turned towards the newcomer who had scolded the fool who had thrown the grenade. "nice job on scolding him. i would have gone with a more violent way but... ah well. my name is shadow. who are you?"

The deeper they headed into the cavern, the deeper the surrounding darkness seemed to become, a foreboding essence that crushed against them, forcing the intruders into a state of silent reflection. Yuffie uneeringly led the way, the only sound that of their footsteps tapping against the ancient earth beneath their feet. Finally, a small pinpoint of light appeared from up ahead, and Yuffie, Sage, Kayne, Shadow and Tokugawa emerged blinking at a shaft of light that came from somewhere above.

All at once the sound of movement forced them to turn to one side. A young man darted forward, slashing through a large incorporeal creature with the tip of his blade. The ghost of the Gi vanished with a bone-chilling scream, and as the dying notes lingered in the air, the spikey-haired figure turned to face them all.

"Do they know?" He inquired, almost a whisper. He re-sheathed his weapon into a slot on his back, a faint 'ching' echoing as it rested alongside five other blades. Yuffie slowly shook her head. He paused, sighing deeply. "Three months ago, Red XIII discovered an anamoly in the life-stream. This anamoly was not unlike the plague of Jenova that infected the planet with geostigma. But, it's workings were entirely different." He turned, beginning to pace. "Even after all this time, after everything with lost and fought for ... he simply won't remain a memory."

"I will never be a memory..."

Cloud Strife shook his head, unconsciously shivering. "Sephiroth..." At the name, everyone in the caves looked up, alert. "You all know of the damage that he's caused, and what Avalanche has done ... had to give up ... in order to stop him. But it's not over." He looked at all of their features. They didn't seem scared. They should be. "With the power of Jenova's cells, Sephiroth has shielded what remains of his essence, has stopped the very life-stream from breaking it down anew. But this is only the beginning. He has spent the last year siphoning off every last drop of his essence, from all corners of the planet, back into himself, and is about to achieve full restoration."

"He'll be revived." Yuffie whispered. She turned to Cloud. "This isn't a part-restoration, like when you fought Kadaj, or the essence of Sephiroth that we've fought before ... this is his full unbound power."

Cloud suddenly reached for one of the blades on his back, and pointed it at Sage, Tokugawa, Kayne and Shadow. "This is why you are here, why we are all here. If Red XIII's calculations are right, Sephiroth will be reborn in just seven days. That's all the time we have to get ready. And so..." Cloud charged. "I need you to show me what you can do!"

Shadow threw up his scythe, narrowly managing to block the sudden charging swing by Cloud. Sparks burst through the air from its contact, ringing loudly and sending out a wave of wind and light. With his free hand Cloud withdrew another blade, slamming it down towards his back where Kayne was approaching. Kayne rose his blade, blocking the attack just as Sage's stun baton missed Cloud as he reacted with a swift kick to his chest.

Seeing a sudden glimmer of light reflected by his blade, Cloud jumped into the air, a flurry of blows deflecting the rapid charge from Tokugawa's battle rifle. He landed safely some distance away, and by this time, Shadow, Kayne and Sage had prepared themselves. They glanced at Yuffie, but she slowly shook her head.

Raising a small green materia orb, Yuffie concentrated. It suddenly blazed into power, and the Seal materia created a barrier around the only exit in the cavern. No one was getting in or out. Yuffie leaned back against the wall, seeing how the team would fare against Cloud's skill.

"Train an Army...huh?!"

Sage narrowly dodged the assault from the spikey haired leader of Avalanche, his body still drenched in sweat and showing fatigue from the last battle with the dark fang. Drooping his cold eyes to cross he noticed his cigarette had been split at some point during the introverted heroes advance. Lips pursed wide enough to allow the butt to strike the ground, something snapped into place in Sage's mind. This wasn't going to be a fight, this was going to be a massacre!

Pumping adrenaline surged through his body, streamlining directly into his things and leg muscles, pulsing with each furious pounding against the earth. He slid across the rocky floor, baton raised high to strike, when suddenly the jaded warrior leaped into the air. The click in his mind ricocheted in a fuming skull, Sage Mallory would not give up this fight.

Twisting in place he launched himself up against the cavern wall twirling like a top towards Cloud. Stretching out his right arm he turned into a pinwheel of death slamming the heavy end of his baton into the would-be teacher again, and again and again. Then pulling out of his spin he withdrew his fist, reeling back for a final assault and let go with a furious punch to the midsection intending to send Cloud crashing to the ground.

Landing a few inches away from the warrior, Sage pulled out a Soma from his pack and downed it. This was going to be a long fight and he was already feeling out of breath!

Kayne noted The baton users action, and decided ti was a smart one.

Kayne wanted to use the earth materia, but that might take down the whole cave, and even though they might technically win, they would die as well.

Kayne lifted his staff against Cloud, the gem on the staff started glowing as Kayne muttered the nessesairy words. "Lightning. Bolt1 - Bolt 1" He cast it 2 times, as the incoming lightning strikes headed for the spikey sword user.

T
here was something in the way Yuffie spoke that put Yukio a little on edge. True, they had only taken down one monster, so it made sense that there would be more up ahead, but her tone hinted at something slightly more intense than the last monster. It was all the reason Yukio would need to reassemble his battle rifle. Several consecutive clicks were heard from the golden-haired man as he followed his 'team' further into the cave. He tossed a few glances to Sage and Kayne, as they exchanged their materia. Yukio tilted up his battle rifle, biting his lower lip at the two scarlet orbs embedded there. Two summon materia, he wouldn't have much use for those. Perhaps later on they'd serve some sort of purpose for him.

Now the 'team' had come to a stop, and before them was the leader of this AVALANCHE group; Cloud Strife. His surname was far more fitting than anyone could imagine, and perhaps his first name held equal justification. Either way, Yukio knew that he was the 'head honcho,' so to speak, and not a man to be taken lightly. He stood there, straight as a statue, listening attentively to what was said. So, Sephiroth was to return in his full form in seven days...?! Quite chilling news. Yukio was not an expert on the man, but most residents of the world had some inkling about him. Sephiroth would bring destruction, that much was certain. ...But to expect to train four novice fighters to face him in only a week's time?! They'd be praying for a miracle.

"I need you to show me what you can do!" Wait, what?! Those azure eyes widened after those words passed through his ears, and right after, Cloud was already on the move. Yukio, always being quite the observer, watched the spiky-haired man as he sailed across that rocky battlefield, attacking Yukio's 'comrades.' But then he came after him, and Yukio was quick to draw up his battle rifle in defense, a couple of burst fire shots were released, but more-so as a reacting malfunction than as Yukio's purposeful actions. If Cloud wanted to see what he was made of, he'd give it to him, on his own terms.

To do so, Yukio quickly rushed over to a rocky ledge, which provided him with a makeshift shelf for him to place his battle rifle on. He set it to 'sniper mode,' and looked through the scope. Cloud was fast, incredibly so, he'd be able to effortlessly dodge their attacks. This was precisely why Yukio would make that nearly impossible. His plan would be to fire upon him, just as he was being attacked by another. Hopefully, he would be under attack from a melee-fighter.

And then, there was Sage Mallory. It seemed even that loud-mouth could come in handy for Yukio. Sage had his stun baton held out and ready, and wasted no time in smacking the Ex-SOLDIER with it. Just as Sage would bring his weapon down upon Cloud, Yukio would shoot, aiming for a part of his body near Sage's target point. To make his attacks more effective, Yukio planned his shots like this: if Sage had attacked Cloud's right shoulder, Yukio would shoot at Cloud's left shoulder, minimizing Cloud's chance of dodging either Sage's attack, or Yukio's attack, and hopefully, making it possible for all of their attacks to be successful.

Sage followed up his initial attack with three more, and a fraction of a second later, Yukio would send a bullet at the AVALANCHE leader. Yukio fired a total of four times, matching the amount of times that Sage had attacked Cloud. Taking a deep breath in order to calm his nerves, Yukio would return to staring through the scope of his battle rifle. He would fire two more shots, and would aim them where they would do the most damage. Of course, he wasn't trying to kill Cloud, but he was trying to defeat him in one manner or another. Since Cloud was relying on that Buster Sword of his, Yukio knew where to place his last two shots. He aimed the first one at his upper arm, and the next shot, just above his wrist. With any luck, they'd hit, and make it increasingly difficult for the expert swordsman to continue attacking the four new recruits. Immediately after firing those last two shots, Yukio would snatch up a Soma from his pocket, and use it. For now, Yukio could only watch and wait, and plan his next course of attack.

With a wide-arching swing of his blade that sent his opponents back, Cloud retreated to a safer distance, taking a moment to catch his breath and survey the situation. He spared a glance at Yuffie, witnessing her surprised gaze, and he slowly smiled. Already, this group of strangers were acting as a single unit ... a team. Tokugawa provided the counter-fire whilst Cloud was busy dealing with deflecting close-range melee hits, Shadow was seeming to duck in and out with quick strikes and Materia spells, and Kayne casted from afar, raining down bolts of pure lightning.

A team. It was only by fighting as one would Avalanche be able to take down Sephiroth.

Closing his eyes for a moment, Cloud suddenly darted forward in the blink of an eye, heading directly for Kayne. With two quick flicks of his wrist, he slashed across his chest in a defined point, ancient symbols flaring into life as they temporarily sealed his ability to act.

As Cloud retreated momentarily, Yukio felt the brief pangs of victory. Perhaps this Cloud Strife could be defeated, if the team continued their full-out assault. That soma had left Yukio feeling energized, and ready to plan his next attack, only this time, he felt it might be necessary to change things up a bit. He glanced at those two red spheres, once again, contemplating actually using one of them. He quickly averted his gaze to Cloud, who was already on the move, and heading for Kayne. Yukio grimaced as he watched that massive blade come down upon his seemingly laconic comrade.

But, it was Cloud's following action that really bothered Yukio. Cloud was casting a spell, signified by those surrounding ancient symbols, and that spell was: Stop?! 'What a cheating little bastard!' Yukio grumbled silently to himself, glancing at those red orbs once more, with a smirk forming across his face. He knew that the first summon, would deal decent amounts of damage, as earlier demonstrated by the electrified-brat. But the second orb; Hades...now that name promised something more devastating.

With his action chosen, Yukio held his gun out in front of him, concentrating as he readied himself to summon Hades. Taking a deep breath, he would feel a sort of warmth emanating from the chosen orb within his battle rifle. What would follow, was a surrounding aura of emerald-colored energy, causing his clothes to waver about and his hair to sway. He'd spin his battle rifle in front of him, following a similar show-off action as Cloud Strife would have demonstrated whilst summoning. Spheres of amber and scarlet colors would appear around him, and suddenly, he would bring the body of gun against his shoulder, open his eyes, and hold out his free hand, palm flat.

He grinned to himself as he waited for the grounds to shake, giving Hades his glorified entrance. He'd stare at Cloud in the process, thinking to himself: 'You want to play dirty with status effects? Two can play that game!'

shadow cast a glance over his shoulder and froze at what he saw. hades had come from the new guy's summon. "great, hades has a score to settle with me" shadow muttered, then shook his head. he then ran into a shadow where he couldn't be seen.he then drunk a Soma for future use and waited for his moment to strike. until then, cloud wouldn't know where he was, nor would anyone else.

Heavy lines of an ancient word formed around the man identifying himself as 'Kayne', a word that was clearly a command. The image sent several panicked thoughts tugging at Sage from the depths of his subconscious. Blazing lines, like hieroglyphics, held an ominous air as they slowly dissolved. He knew he had seen it before, and while he couldn't place the where, he knew what it meant. AVALANCHE had picked a bizarre leader.

The stop skill would eat away at Kayne until he could no longer function, turning him from magician to meat puppet and while the team seemed apt to act, he would eventually become a sitting duck. Sage watched as the others drained the contents of their Soma's in horror. Even he had made the mistake of using the coveted drink. Shaking hands held weakly the Stun Baton in his grip and his eyes dropped hopefully to materia inhabiting the duel slots. [O][O]. [O]. [Steal].

'This guy...' Sage thought as his eyes lifted to the leader of Avalanche, 'he's been here waiting for us, he's been here waiting for this! He's gotta have some...and I'm gonna get it!' Cerulean blue orbs fixated on the massive sword as it cut swiftly across the battlefield, like a flag above Cloud's head. Sage was going to need to be cunning. Suddenly, something snapped in him.

'Kayne!!' he shouted unnaturally, 'Don't you dare stop your advance! Anyone with soma's keep him covered! Let's take this big sworded bastard down!'

Sage launched himself at the spikey haired warrior, the heavy end of his baton barreling down on Cloud's exposed back. Just as the weapon made contact with the target, Sage ran a forefinger over the steal materia. A heavy blur funneled his vision, time seemed to slow down as his left hand reached out to reach into Cloud's pockets. His right hand alternated again returning for the backswing connecting with Cloud's skull and resounding in a sickening thwack! His left hand responded and he reached to pat down the warrior again, looking for anything he could lift off the head honcho. The moment the second steal skill finished, Sage passed his baton end over end, switching hands quickly then returning to smash hard into the back of Cloud's knee.

Sage grinned wildly taking a wide step around to face the full front of Cloud, his right hand passing under the poncho-like coat straining to make another attempt at theivery. Finally, his left hand joined together with his right and swung the weapon skyward connecting with the underside of Cloud's chin, trying to lift him off the ground.

'I better be right about this!' Sage prayed silently, hoping to find anything that might be useful.
