[RP] Final Fantasy IX: Scars of Terra

"It's okay...tell me. How come you fear men so much?"

Vanessa froze in reaction to this question as the memories came back to her of the shouting, the beatings, the insults and other things she'd rather forget. Burying her head harder into Twin Sword's chest Vanessa started to gradually cry, after a few sniffles she muttered "I was... A slave" before running to her bed and hiding under the covers, hoping her new friend wouldn't see her like this, she didn't want to lose her already.

-------------------------

Narrowly avoiding detection by Twin Sword, Lucia took the opposite room, presumably Atalanta's room and closed the door somewhat louder than she was planning on. Keeping the light off she walked over to the window and looked outside at the white birds, an instant reminder of Gisale. Turning her head and walked over to the bed and sat down with her back to the door.

"What am I going to do? Do I stay put or do I pursue?"

The Twinsword

Theme-The One Left Standing

"I was... A slave"

Twinsword was not too overly surprised about that from the way she had acted earlier. For the ex-Lord General she understood how it felt. As Vanessa hid under her bedsheets crying. Twinsword walked over to her and sat on the bed beside her. "Vanessa...you and I are a lot alike you know. I was a slave too..." The memories of her past opened up in her head like a door. All the abuse, both physical, mental and verbal abuse she felt growing up that made Twinsword lower her head, looking at her swords. "To be honest, I felt the same way you did when I was freed from those chains: Shy, sad, afraid, fearful. It not usually something I like to bring up...and...I'm sorry I brought it up for you."

Robert Crescent

"A noble from Treno, owns an Auction House there. Perhaps you heard of him?"

Robert shrugged a bit. He wasn't as familiar with Treno as many others were. He rarely went except for Tetra Master Tournaments. "I remember that Kuja used to own that place. The late Kuja anyways. Amarant, Zidane and his son know Treno better than I do. But I've heard enough stories about the place." He spoke to Atalanta. He sat himself down on one of the chairs in the room. He placed his lance to the side before looking up to the female warrior. "Well, I'll be happy to help if I can. However I do need to warn you that there is danger approaching Lindblum. How much do you know about Oilvert's invasion of the Mist continent?" he asked Atalanta.

"Vanessa...you and I are a lot alike you know. I was a slave too..."

Vanessa started to slowly pull her head out of the duvet, showing up to her nose while her fingers tightened down on the duvet, looking up at Twin Sword.

"To be honest, I felt the same way you did when I was freed from those chains: Shy, sad, afraid, fearful. It not usually something I like to bring up...and...I'm sorry I brought it up for you."

Seeing Twin Sword looking sad and having a newfound history in common something began to appear in Vanessa, like a familiarity and someone who could understand her. Slowly pulling the duvet off herself she crawled over on all fours and hugged her, laying down by her legs with her eyes closed.

The Twinsword

Twinsword turned around and saw Vanessa, who moved in and hugged her. She wanted to at least show face, to persevere through the terrible memories she once had, to try and forget them all. "Now...I know it's tough to find some friends, but you have your sis, and you have me and my friends too." Twinsword said, giving Vanessa a weak, but reassuring smile. "I think as long as you have those, you feel like you could take on anything. So...cheer up for the both of us...okay?"

Atalanta Palaiologos

"I remember that Kuja used to own that place. The late Kuja anyways. Amarant, Zidane and his son know Treno better than I do. But I've heard enough stories about the place."

"Yeah well, that was where I met Vanessa, while I was under this guys employ for close to a year." Atalanta said, standing straight up. "It was a good thing I had the money to purchase her off him, I hated the guy for the way he treated her, and I wanted to at least give her a much better life than she had earlier."

"Well, I'll be happy to help if I can. However I do need to warn you that there is danger approaching Lindblum. How much do you know about Oilvert's invasion of the Mist continent?"

"Heh..." Atalanta smirked, "News travels fast these days Robert. I've heard that Burmecia handed Oeilvert its first defeat since the invasion. Guess their King overextended themselves." She looked back out the window as she continued to speak. "I should know, I worked Freelance for the Gesalian House during their Civil War, so I knew how these guys fought. If they come to Lindblum, I'll be sure to help send them packing."

Robert Crescent

Robert gave a nod to the female warrior. "Yes. They had some rather advanced technology. but they underestimated how prepared we were for them. Brahne's near annihilation of Burmecia and Cleyra was enough of a motivator to make sure we're always ready." Robert spoke before leaning his head back a bit. "But it's not so much a matter of 'if' as it is a matter of 'when'. They already reinforced Cleyra with enough troops to outnumber Burmecia, but with the Festival tomorrow, it'll be Lindblum at their most vulnerable. I doubt any attacking force would be able to resist striking when this place is run amok by monsters from within." Robert explained to her. "And since they are after the elemental mirrors, they might simply use an attack to send a few rogues in to try and locate the mirror here."

Alleria was far too oblivious to what was happening around her to think too much. She heard the person offer her some form of accommodation and promptly decided that she would follow. Seeing the familiarity of the face only made the decision an easier and more reasonable one, even in her present state.

She let Lan pull her up and lead her away. An affirmative grunt was all she responded with her world whirled around violently.

Atalanta Palaiologos

"Yes. They had some rather advanced technology. but they underestimated how prepared we were for them. Brahne's near annihilation of Burmecia and Cleyra was enough of a motivator to make sure we're always ready."

Atalanta didn't know much about Garnet's predecessor, having not been from the Mist Continent growing up. Nonetheless, the knowledge of the Mist Continental War that she caused still resonated in the minds of all involved.

"But it's not so much a matter of 'if' as it is a matter of 'when'. They already reinforced Cleyra with enough troops to outnumber Burmecia, but with the Festival tomorrow, it'll be Lindblum at their most vulnerable. I doubt any attacking force would be able to resist striking when this place is run amok by monsters from within."

"I see..." Atalanta said, knowing what Robert meant. "From what I've heard about Oeilvert's 'Grande Armee' as they like to call it, they've somehow managed to get a large quantity of troops for campaigns. They would be a tough nut to crack on an open engagement." Atalanta shrugged as Robert continued.

"And since they are after the elemental mirrors, they might simply use an attack to send a few rogues in to try and locate the mirror here."

"So the rumors were true..." Atalanta thought when Robert mentioned about the mirrors. "Well, if I were looking for something of the sort, I would use any sort of distraction to get what the objective." Atalanta walked over by Robert. "Well, make them think we don't suspect a thing. When they think they have it easy, trap em and take em, dead or alive, right?"

Lan Ester

One grunt was his answer as he slowly made his way to the inn with Alleria beside him. Since the inn was not far from the pub, Lan decided to give Alleria something to talk about instead of how the booze is messing with her.

"What's with you Alleria? Granted you are a knight, but even then there should be a limit on how much you drink. You are going to be helping out Lindblum in any case. That reminds me, Have you ever thought about settling down with a nice person and just live a normal knight's life and such?" Lan asked as used his tail as well to keep Alleria from falling over.

Robert Crescent

Robert looked up at Atalanta and gave a nod to her words. "That's the current plan. However, until Cid gets back, nothing can really be coordinated. He's supposed to be back tomorrow, but hopefully sooner. I'd rather not be trying to help bring together a full strategy with the clock ticking against us. I'm not sure how much Cid himself knows about the kind of advanced weaponry Oielvert has at their disposal." he spoke.

"In the end, it's all a matter of minimizing civilian casualties while preventing Oielvert from achieving their goals. Burmecia was lucky. Oielvert underestimated us, never took into account the fact that the eternal rains over the land caused the ground to not fair well for their iron cannon carriages or our own access to Eidolons, thanks to Princess Eiko's gift to our kingdom." Robert spoke calmly, folding his hands together. This wasn't his kingdom, yet it seemed like the Burmecian was putting quite a bit on his plate.

"The world already suffered so much. I just can't comprehend why anyone would want to bring about so much death and suffering to it a second time. Is this Cyril not content with having rule over Oielvert? Is he trying to become another Kuja? What the hell could they want with Terra anyways?" he spoke, though mostly to himself before cupping his head in his hands.

"That's the current plan. However, until Cid gets back, nothing can really be coordinated. He's supposed to be back tomorrow, but hopefully sooner. I'd rather not be trying to help bring together a full strategy with the clock ticking against us. I'm not sure how much Cid himself knows about the kind of advanced weaponry Oielvert has at their disposal."

Atalanta thought about it, she knew that Oeilvert have their little mad scientist projects at work, with Tanks and Ironclad Airships and Musket firearms. But one thing she knows about such advances is that their is always a downside to them. The question is, will Lindblum, Burmecia and Alexandria be able to figure out these weaknesses?

"In the end, it's all a matter of minimizing civilian casualties while preventing Oielvert from achieving their goals. Burmecia was lucky. Oielvert underestimated us, never took into account the fact that the eternal rains over the land caused the ground to not fair well for their iron cannon carriages or our own access to Eidolons, thanks to Princess Eiko's gift to our kingdom."

Apparently they already know what to do with Tanks, they've underestimated their own capabilities in battle, especially considering the arid climate throughout the rocky landscape of Cyril's Kingdom. Nonetheless, when it came down to it, Oeilvert either got cocky, or their agents were double agents working against them. It was for that reason why...Atalanta didn't want to think of it right now.

"The world already suffered so much. I just can't comprehend why anyone would want to bring about so much death and suffering to it a second time. Is this Cyril not content with having rule over Oielvert? Is he trying to become another Kuja? What the hell could they want with Terra anyways?"

Atalanta saw the Burmecian was depressed, and walking up to him, the pink-haired giant put her hand on his shoulder. "It's best not to think about these things right now. The best we can do now is stop them however we can." Atalanta smiled before removing her hand. "Heh, maybe i can help. I'm going to be participating in the Festival anyway. I could help keep watch over Lindblum with you guys. It is my home too after all."

The Pirate

Theme-The Lion Changed to the Storm

"Heh, the moons sure look nice tonight..." The Pirate thought as he looked out from the small, barred breezeway in his prison cell. Ever since his meeting with the King of Burmecia, he was sent in this prison, separate from his army. "Man, for all the trouble for just two pieces of glass. Not the best use of my talent Cyril." The Lord-General closed his eyes and leaned back on the stone wall, thinking of a way to get out of this prison and leave Burmecia with the two mirrors in Puck's possession.

[OOC: Sorry for the slow response. ]

Alleria barely caught what Lan was saying. Or rather, she was trying not to pay attention. Although she disliked thinking about it, that question was one that she often asked herself when she was given this mission. There was a good possibility she could settle down and stay within her comfort zone.

Ultimately, the desire to become a stronger warrior proved to be stronger than her desire to settle down.

"Tek-nickkk-curly.. I can!"

She almost topples back but Lan's tail holds her back in time.

"Just wanna be strong!"

She flexes her arms, laughing as she did.

Lan Ester

"Tek-nickkk-curly.. I can! Just wanna be strong!"

Lan half sighed half smiled. It was normal for knights to become stronger. While he didn't mind that, the trouble comes with the limit. But that was Alleria's trouble and not his. Soon enough, Lan sees the inn coming into sight.

"Here we are. At the very least, you can get some sleep. Can I ask one thing? Why do you want to be strong? Are you protecting someone or something?" Lan asked as he leaned slightly so more of Alleria's weight went to him.

Alleria went silent at this point. While still resting her full weight on Lan, she began to regain a little bit of consciousness with the question posed to her. Like with the earlier question, this was one that made her think.

"Instincts..." She muttered, suddenly clear in speech. The two approached the inn and as soon as they did, Alleria pushed away, staggering slightly to stand without support.

Jabbing a finger at Lan, she said, unaware that she was rather loud,"Hey! Don't mess with my head."

She grabs her head with both hands as she continued," I just want to be strong. STRONG! HA!"

As she says that, she kicks open the inn door and entered the inn, making for the first room she sees despite the protests of the inn-keeper.

Lan staggered back a bit as Alleria pushed herself off from him while declaring that he was messing with her head somehow. The green haired genome smiled as he decided to play with her a bit.

"But that's not true at all. After all, you have been drinking and I was not. You were the one who started to flirt with me. I guess that is strong in one sense. Besides, I never thought you would want to find a husband so soon." Lan said while holding back a smile and laughs as he followed Alleria into the inn.

Passing the slightly(?) drunk genome, Lan pulled out a key and opened the door that Alleria was going to.

"Well, here's my room. You can take the bed if you want." Lan muttered looking at Alleria.

Robert Crescent
Robert looked over to the female and gave a nod to her. "Yeah. Well the more people we have helping the better. I'll be participating as well in place of the last year's winner." the Burmecian replied with a faint smile. He exhaled a bit and in thought, mostly to Annelise's question to him from the airship ride, as to whether or not there was a chance her mentor could be alive. He saw the general struck head-on with a bolt of lightning from the eidolon. The only explanation he could think of that anyone could survive something like that was with the aid of a Coral ring. But that would mean she would have been anticipating that attack. The only one he knew who survived a powerful lightning attack was his father, but he lost his memory because of it. If she didn't have protection and she was alive, she might have been thrown from the ship and wandered around in a daze. They never found her body, so it was a possibility.

Atalanta Palaiologos

"Yeah. Well the more people we have helping the better. I'll be participating as well in place of the last year's winner."

"I figured as such, I've never heard of you personally, but I remember that Crescent name well." Atalanta smiled as she said that before moving past him. Atalanta knew of Freya, who won several consecutive Festivals and maintained her title. Though to be fair, there had been a few cases where others did present a worthy challenge.

Yet, Atlanta couldn't help but think of the silver haired woman that passed her before meeting Lucia for the first time, Atalanta thought she looked familiar, and there was rumors that she survived...but could it really have been her?

Turning around, she looked at Robert, crossing her arms. "Well, looks like tomorrow will be another day, I'll make a bed for you, if it's okay."

The Pirate

The Pirate would stand up and look around to see if there was a way out of this prison cell. Walking towards the back wall he would knock on the stone brick, looking for differences in sound. It took a few minutes and several unsuspected Burmecian guards (which he fooled by faking himself sleeping soundly in the corner of the ground) but he managed to find that difference, and it was just big enough to fit his body through. Using his full weight, he used his shoulder to tackle at the wall, the bricks held tight, but the determined Lord-General was too stubborn to give up. After a couple dozen additional tries which saw the white haired Genome clutching his right shoulder in pain, he was able to create a big enough hole to crawl through.

The Pirate would begin crawling out, escaping in the next room behind him Before pushing the stones back in place, as if the breakout never happened, and to at least keep the Burmecians oblivious as to where he is. Looking around, the Lord-General saw a bunch of weapons, spears, swords, firearms of which were mainly captured from Oeilvert during the battle. He laughed, perhaps this was going to be a bit easy.

OOC: Yay for totally not late posts

After a few more minutes, Lucia stood up and approached the window, gazing out to the darkening streets, feeling her heart begin to race, she knew she couldn't waste time here. She had to find Gisale, she needed her, more than anyone else. Opening the window as far as possible she climbed out through it and landed rather heavily on the ground outside. Looking around her rather frantically, nobody had seen her escape but also, she saw no sign of Gisale.

Deciding that at this hour, even someone as powerful and wise as Gisale had to rest she ran as fast as she could in the direction of the Inn, ignoring the Innkeeper when she entered she ran towards the rooms. Spotting Lan and Alleria not far off she kept quiet and walked past them, trying not to attract their attention, right now she didn't feel up to talking with anyone but Gisale, as if on cue with her thoughts however, she heard a familiar sound close by...

----------------------------------------

Vanessa lightly smiled at Twin Sword's words, knowing someone knew how she felt and had been in the same situation before, squeezing around Twin Sword's waist with her hug she lightly nodded her head while it was pressed to her before moving off of her and sitting on her legs and looking up at Twin Sword, trying to keep her smile up, a difficult action considering how she normally showed herself to people.

Her heart had already began to race, she wasn't sure why but she felt strangely happy for it, gently placing her hand against it while looking up at Twin Sword "Will you stay with me?"

Lan Ester

Lan left the door open and grabbed his stuff from the room. Soon enough, the green haired genome left the inn as he made his way to the castle via aircab. Once there, Lan walked into the castle and found an open spot of seats that he could sleep on as he placed his bag there and sat down.

"Everything will start again tomorrow." Lan muttered as he laided back on the cluster of seats to fall asleep.

-------------------
Remilia Oveilia

Remilia smiled as she got out of the bed. Walking quietly out of the guest bedroom, the summoner softly roamed the interior of the middle section of the castle. Her eyes soon spotted an odd mount on an open patch of seats. Walking up closely, she saw that it was Lan, who was fast asleep.

"Really Lan. I wouldn't mind sharing a room with you. Even a bed if the situation came to it. But why push yourself through all this?" Remilia wondered as she ever so gently lifted Lan's head off of his bag that was currently being used as a pillow and laid the head in her lap as she sat down.

Running her hand through his hair, Remilia smiled as Lan mumbled something in his sleep that closely resembled the word, 'Mikoto'.

"You know, in a few more years, you would be a heartthrob for the women." Remilia whispered as sleep started to set in. Before sleep completely set it, Remilia quietly summoned Zodiark and gave the serpent instructions of patrolling the area and not letting anything and anyone close to both her and Lan. With the order accepted, Remilia fell to sleep while Zodiark flew above, and around them and the room to keep the pair safe.

General Gisale

Gisale found herself running down the hallway back in Oeilvert Castle, holding her claymore in hand. The Lord General looked desperate, frantic in searching for someone.

"Rene?! RENE!!! Where are you, son!!!" She opened and closed every door in the castle as she tried to find her son. It was through her searching in the end that she found the boy, with white hair and red eyes standing by the door, stained in blood.

"Rene?"
Gisale looked at the boy, startled, then shocked as the boy slumped to the ground. "RENE, NO!!!" she yelled out as she ran towards the boy. His body felt cold, limp, no breathing, no movement at all. "Come on Rene, wake up!!! Please, you must wake up!!!" Gisale called out desperately to the boy, but he remained limp.

"You let him die...you just stood there and watched."
Gisale heard a familiar voice coming from behind, and as she wiped tears from her face, she saw Cyril, armed and ready for battle. "Why did you let Rene die? Why did you watch this family suffer!"

"No, No I didn't!!!"
Gisale yelled as she looked down at Rene's corpse, as it dissapeared into darkness in front of her.

Cyril ran forward, using his swallow blade to strike at Gisale before she could counter, stabbing her in the heart. As the Lord-General watched her life fade away, she looked back at Oeilvert's King, blood covering her mouth and tears flowing from her eyes. "You will be mercilessly judged in hell where you belong, murderer..." Removing the blade from her chest, Gisale slumped down to her knees, before a final swing aimed for her neck. "NO!, NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!"

General Gisale

Theme: Tears of a Childless Mother

"NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!"

Gisale woke up suddenly and quickly sat up. Her face was drenched in a cold sweat as she look at her hands. As she looked, she saw her own hands were sweating as well. The dream she had looked, even felt so real.

The Lord General, put her hands on her face, to wipe the sweat and tears that streaked her face, trying her best not to cry, to make herself look weak. But to witness her own son's death again in her nightmares...it tormented her to no end.

----
The Twinsword

"Will you stay with me?"

Twinsword looked at Vanessa and smiled. "Heh, you're alright. I'll stay with you, keep you safe." She put her hand around Vanessa's waist and gave the girl a hug. "After all, you kind of remind me of myself too." She giggled before saying. "It's time for bed, got a busy day tomorrow you know."

----
Annelise Steiner & Regent Cid

It was a lovely moonlight that Anne would see. The twin moons glistening in the distance made the Alexandrian Knight so mesmerized with it.

"Lovely night tonight, isn't it?"

Anne shook her head to focus before turning her attention to the older figure standing with a cape and a walking stick. "L-Lord Cid? I thought you would not be back till this morning?"

"I had to come back. After all, I was one to witness a battle with Oeilvert on the way here. Needless to say, I'm thankful that me and my wife came back safely."

Anne nodded, "Indeed, though it would not be wise to underestimate their power." She of course spoke from experience, considering her experience during the Battle of Burmecia just a day ago.

----
The Pirate

With his weapons back in his possession, The Lord-General began his new approach into getting the mirrors. Looking around he noticed a guard walking in his direction. Taking one of the pistols from his holster he held it up as he looked at the entryway through the door. As soon as the Burmecian entered he would be knocked in the head with the butt of his pistol. Watching the soldier slump to the ground he said. "Sorry, killing ain't my thing. It's bad for business you know."
