Squall's Dead [dot] com

VERY interesting. I don't believe it at all, but it all fits and could be valid. The game does have a kind of surreal feel to it, but that's the nature of all FF games.
The whole 'getting stabbed through the chest with a giant icicle' thing can be explained quite simply.
He was stabbed and was healed to be interogated about the true nature of SeeD. Siefer believed Cid told Squall something Cid wouldn't tell the others because of his obvious bias towards Squall.
It's that simple.

agreed. I'm currently playing FF8 on the psp. The things I have seen is forced romance with Squall and Rinoa...because it's like they just suddenly like each other? There wasn't much character growth from Squall to liking Rinoa. It just sort of happened, I wish they were more in depth with it than letting something random like that happen. IMO, it doesn't even seem like Squall is the right person for Rinoa but what the hell, it is FF8 and than again, it's a 11 year old game. I'm sure if SE did ever want to make a remake for some odd odd odd odd reason, there'll be more character growth and more explanation to the whole thing about Lunatic Pandora, etc etc.

While perhaps disturbing to consider, this theory makes a helluva lot of sense. I'm certainly not going to write it off, nor do I really think it can be by anything other than direct contradiction from developers. It may be a bit hard sought in that (as prodded by some) it does take a bit of an assembly of thoughts and ideas, but let's face it - you remove that factor and suddenly a lot more aspects of VIII seem strained or vague. In other words, the theory helps the game make more sense and gives a lot of these scenes context that they otherwise wouldn't seem to have. That's what makes it good.

If only temporarily, it sparked a renewed interest in VIII for me.

Interesting stuff, and he's obviously thought a lot about it, but he really lost me at the love sections. He either doesn't get relationships, or he's missing the point. He states that Rinoa and Seifer's romance must've been strong in disc 1, but it's clear to see they were having troubles, to say the least. Rinoa says in the dance floor scene, "I can't be seen on the dance floor alone." She's clearly trying to make Seifer jealous. And when she saw he'd allied himself with their enemy, that made her go off him even more. With all her confusion and turmoil, she latched herself on to the nearest guy, the one doing his best to protect her, and started falling for him. It's only natural I'm afraid. Their relationship does make sense, so the author of the article totally lost me here.

But other than that there are some good stuff, especially with the Moombas!

I think that the theory makes a decent amount of sense, but i need to go back through and play through a second time. I think the creators need to make a spinoff/sequel if this is what they were trying to do based on the dream world, maybe leading into squall's afterlife, wherever that is. could be like DBZ afterlife xD but propably not...

Back on topic- I actually think that this makes a lot of sense, but I can not write off the possibility that this is all coincidence either. I mean not necesarily coincidence, more that the writers meant it in a different way than that he had died... you know the routine. it's like ghost hunting. question everything.

I've heard about this theory a few times but have never gotten a chance to read it. Unfortunately I have to go to a few classes today but I will read it and see what I think.

But I've heard enough about it to know it's a really interesting theory that many people think could be plausible. But I highly doubt it can be taken as the truth since SE have never hinted towards something like this.

I just beat the game today! And honestly, a lot of this makes a whole lot of sense to me.
Very interesting theory. Dare I say, it could be even true. Especially with all the blury scenes at the end, that it could all have been all a dream and imagination. That really confused me. If it hadn't been for the scene after the credits I really thought he was dead and confused.

Another twist I could add on to this, is during the end, Squall goes back into time to talk to Edea, before she gets her powers and talks to her and see's little squall running around. They talk about if "this is the end", and the reply is "Most likely, or "Probably".

Wow, I kind of believe this theory somewhat...hmmmmm. Not all of it but definitely a decent amount of it.

It's a very interesting theory. I haven't actually finished reading it, but so far, it makes sense and it explains a whole lot of the sub-plots that just seem to be slapped on and have little elaboration.

He Ain't Dead

He Isn't Dead WTF!!! I have the ending videos on my YouTube account Elite0047! If so how is he in Dissidia makes no sense. And if this theory is true why him why does he have to die he is a badass.

Dissidia is independent from the final fantasy installments, if I'm not mistaken. It captures elements from their respective stories, but it doesn't actually tie into their plotlines. In the prologue or whatever for the game, it states that they've been waging that war for a long drawn time.

Anyway, it's very likely that Squall didn't die, only because there was no distinct suggestion to this idea that a company like Square would be sure to make obvious. That being said, it's a great theory with great support, regardless of individual feelings about Squall, I think.

Dissidia is considered to be a mere fan service.
EDIT : Oops, I stated a fact that has been said before. Deleted.

I've finished reading SquallsDead, and it is indeed plausible. AND it is certainly an interesting conversation piece whenever you meet a Final Fantasy nerd. ;)

It's one of the things that I dislike about FF8 : it's too open for interpretation. I like games that drop subtle plot hints, but I like those to be explained later in the game, not just forget all of those like they have never even happened!

He can live through that though, the ice shard went through the right side of his chest. A person can live with one lung so if possible lose one lung and live on the other lunch and also your heart is more on the left side of your chest.

I forgot, it has been awhile, but does it say how long it has been since he was struck by the ice shard to the time he awoke afterwards, I haven't played the game again in years haha. So possibly his wound already healed if sometime passed between then.

But even then it could've been some kind of magic, these characters and the whole final fantasy series do some crazy things with magic it could've been a tranquilizing shard haha, makes him pass out in seconds when struck with no wound of some sort.

The theory is very interesting, but I don't really buy into it. You would think that a plot point this major would have more hints than what was given. And really the ending footage just doesn't support it. (I don't believet that it's some kind of heaven)

Add to that it is hinted that Laguna and Raine are Squall's parents... why would they give subtle hints to that if everything after the first disk never even happened?

Even though Square has already said it is false, I prefer the Rinoa is Ultimecia theory.

I agree. Interesting theory, but really you could use that for anything. You could make any story and not hint in any way possible through the whole plot then at the end say "haha guys--this whole thing NEVER HAPPENED." honestly that ending usually just pisses me off. I never heard any Rinoa is Ultimecia theory, but I did think that when I played.

also, who cares that he didn't have a wound? it's freaking Final Fantasy----FANTASY.....shit like that is totally feasible in MAKE BELIEVE. but i do harbor a theory that every game...every book...every tv show....every movie...every story...is another world that is important enough for all universes to know about. that's why they are told, and why most people know them.

I could be misinterpreting your post here, but the theory suggested that Squall was piecing together things the way he saw fit, completing the pieces of his life in the manner that he wanted to. So that wouldn't really take away from the theory.

i can't agree with that, because i don't see when the story gets weird after the first disc but ofcourse he got a icicle through his lungs and stuff but. hello? it's a ff game for crying out loud. all can happen in those games, the games aren't suppose to take after reality.

and if squall died, don't you think square would have revealed that in the end of the game then. but it was an interesting theory though.

Well, that's the problem. Square didn't elaborate the storylines that Squallsdead.com used as supporting evidence for the theory. Those storyline could be hints for any storyline, and apparently, Squallsdead fabricated so nicely such that it's believable.

I don't really buy it either. I mean I think he's alive. It's just the way that I always took the ending, and I don't really see how it suggests he's dead, considering how happy everyone looks during the whole cam credit thingy.

But it is interesting that FF8 has all these theories. It's like the whole Rinoa as Ultimecia thing, it's interesting but I don't believe it.

This thread sure has garnered a lot of discussion..

I'm gonna try and disprove the theory with a paradox.

If Squall was dead, he wouldn't have been able to have been taken back in time by Ellone (in discs 2,3) and guide Laguna through his difficulties. Laguna would have failed in his conquests that led to the events he shared with Raine, or he would have been killed (maybe by a ruby dragon during the rehearsal of a play).
He and Raine would have then not bung, because he would either have been dead or absent. Squall would then not have been born at all, and if Squall hadn't been born in the first place, he wouldn't have been able to get smote by Edea's icicles.

So ultimately, Squall's life depends on him living, at least to the point of his last occurence with being taken back to Laguna's past by Ellone. In a sense, he sows the seeds of his own life through Laguna.
