Tattoos

my concern is the needle. I'm a little scared of needles. :wacky:

That's like me. I nearly passed out when I had my ears pierced so I'm scared of the needle and the pain :ness:

When I'm old enough though, I do want one. I don't really know what I want doing though, but I know where I want it - top of my thigh. Mainly because it's meant to hurt less on places with lots of flesh on the bone :wacky:

i want my full arm done, got a basic idea of what it is i want, but its not going to be cheap, i also want a maori tribal tattoo design on my other arm which will go onto my back, the Maori Tribals are much nicer than traditional Tribals, its like what dwayne "the rock" Johnson has on his left arm :mokken:

I did say I'd upload a bit better quality of pictures so ya'll could make it out.

So here you go:

Ouch, thats a big one you got there Tyler :8F:

...I just realised how wrong that sentence sounds :dave:
I mean on your leg. Nice though :mokken:

I really like that one on your back. I'd like a big tattoo but I really don't think I'd cope with the pain. I guess I'd just have to tell the tattooist to carry on, even if I pass out :ness:

I'd want angel wings or something to that effect on my back, on each shoulder blade and I already know it would hurt like a motherfucker. I'd definitely have to speed-dial my cousin for moral support, I'd need it. The only thing holding me back is the fact that I'm a resistive trypanophobic, I hate needles so damn fucking much. I tense my muscles up way too much which would make it hurt even more, so I'd have to avoid that.

Anyway references photos of what I'd want, y'all:

. . . Yah. :monster:

I'll probably be the only one with this opinion. And I didn't read the entire thread so I could be wrong.

I personally do not like tatoos. I think they look extremely tacky, espeically when someone has those that cover practically their entire body. I would think that some were cute or cool, but only if they were temporary, because then I would not have to see them everytime I saw a person. And it's a bit silly to see a 40 or 50 year old with a butterfly or a tweety bird on their arm. Espeically when they have shrunk and wrinkled.

Don't get me wrong, I don't look down upon anyone that has a tatoo. It's like knee high socks. I hate looking at them but I'll still hang out with my friend if she has them on. A temporary one that I could remove at anyt ime would be fine though.

So I would not get a tatoo. I would get sick of looking at it.

my mum said that to me this morning xD

I just shrugged and said when Im 50 or 60 mother, I really wont be baring my flesh, and Il be old anyway, so I won't care - I'l worry about it at the time, I live for now not when I'm past it :dave:

A bloke last night actually said to not get a larger tattoo on my arm because 'he doesn't like tattoos on women, especially large ones' and I'm like, I'm sorry, but who's body is this, and who am I getting myself tattoo'd for?

Opinions are fine, we all have them but it's just preference innit, I like them, always have, the dolphin I might not like, but it's nothing that I'd ever lose sleep over - I have it, I have to live with it, end of :8F:

I have a few ideas floating around currently. But the 2 biggest ones, i have are to have vines look like their underneath the skin on my left leg, and gears, screws and what not underneath my right leg.

Then possibly somewhere else have a question mark.

Probably located somewhere on my chest, have a circle that's 3/4s completed.

I hate it when people worry about that. If it hurt so much, why would most people go back for more? It burns more than it hurts and it really isn't all that uncomfortable. The thinner the skin, the worse it is, but it's not ridiculous either. It's just typically people want them in the places it'll hurt most. Back of the neck, foot, wrist etc.

I should upload mine, but I think I'll wait until I have my next few appointments filled in whilst I am away too. More to show then I suppose rather than updating the thread etc.

Gotta say Shu, I like the whole Xengears thign and the tree. You could make that into like a badass sleeve. Actually...what do you say when it's on your leg....a sleeve is a term for an arm o_O a leg sleeve? A leg? Ah you know what I mean.

Like everyones designs so far =D

Yea, definitely won't be seeing me wear shorts at 50-60 unless lounging around the house. Wrinkly old skinny legs are not hot. Personally I don't care about being old at this point.

A tattoo mostly means something different than just the sheer image. If we got them primarily due to "it looks cool" then I would call you a fawking tool and a poser. Why? Repercussions in the end, because if I wanted to get one to be facetious or rebellious, that's taking away from the design. One day you will be like.. why the hell did I get this "skull" or "butterfly"...

I don't disclose what any image means when I put it on my body, but I get 200 questions from each person that sees them. It's not the mysterious side, it's the fact that I believe it means something to me, and only me. There is no point trying to explain it to someone, when they haven't lived the same life I have.

Those that think they are tacky, are either 1) artistically bland and need to broaden their horizon 2) can not comprehend or understand the meaning of an image.

That doesn't mean they need to get one, just means, some tattoos are meant to tell a story, while others.. are just there to be there.

And to follow up on Shu's post, I completely agree with that. The reason why I want angel wings specifically ties into my past. Spirituality actually plays a pretty heavy part in my life and my family's life, I may not express it with the utmost devotion as some other people; but I do express it in other ways through art, through poetry and writing, and what have you. Protection, spirituality, guardian, God, words like that are what I associate with angel wings, I feel like there's a divine force that's watched over me and enabled me to keep breathing.

The way I see it, NOT getting an angel wings tattoo, regardless of where it's inked on to my skin, would be pretty disrespectful to God. He saved me as a baby when I was sickly 1 pound and 4 oz. infant so I owe Him something. To put my two cents in, tattoos are only as "tacky" or as "ugly" as you see it. Some of those elaborate ones that cover the length of someone's body tells a story, has a deep meaning whether it's personal, spiritual, metaphorical, or all three. Sometimes they're just there "to look cool", I have a cousin that has some tattoos, one of her name with a rose, and hell I don't know why she got it. I don't ask, it looks pretty, but to her it could have a deeper meaning than just "oh, that's my name and I wanted it there just 'cause." Maybe she picked it because in some regions of the world, in countries like France and Spain 'Leanna' means something: "vine" or "lily" and those words in turn mean something deeper.

I don't know and I won't ask unless she feels to tell me, that's something restricted to her. Not everyone can appreciate the aestheticism and the heavy-handed meaning attached to body art. I appreciate body art in all its forms and intricacies personally: piercings, tattoos, whether tribal or traditional to me, probably hold some substantial meaning to the person who's inked or pierced. And even if they did it just to be a "poser" or look "cool" 'cause it's the in thing then still to me it wouldn't affect me. I'd know and will always know why I'll get my angel wing tattoo, not to look cool, but to give some sort of appreciation to the 'big guy in the sky' up there for saving my ass when I was a dying baby.

So if you, Rydia, don't like it then that's cool. I'm sure the tattoo wearers around the world would appreciate that, especially if you, as you say, tolerate it. That's good to know. As for older people wearing it, I personally find it to be a teeny bit unattractive only because the ink stains into your skin and the elasticity diminishes seemingly faster when you're inked. They could always remove it but the costs and the after effects are stinging-painful and take a while to fade way. I'd rather keep it 'till I die, as a mark of something permanent and retrospective and meaningful.

I can totally understand opinions of people who think that getting tattoo's are silly, and yeah they are permanent, it depends on the person really, some people just think of getting a tattoo to look hard or cool or whatever, some people get them to copy celebraties, but there are a fair few in comparison that get tattoo's for sentimental reasons.

My 2 tattoo's are on me for a reason, I didn't get them to look cool or to copy anyone, my moogle is for my cousin, who bought me my first FF game for Christmas when I was 8 years old, sadly a few years later he passed away in an accident, so it's kinda a memory of him and what he did for me and my brother.

My wrist tattoo is just a way to show my artistic side really, I get lots of comments from people as it's visible when I work and people like it! So I'm happy!

And yeah tattoo's are permanent, but it's all about living life, and looking back on the wrinkled up skin and laughing at how you got it in the first place, or to remind you of someone that you knew in your life, you always make these mistakes in the end anyway so a bit of ink is nothing. I barely notice mine anymore if I'm honest :|

I do not like needles. At all. So no tattoos for me. Ever.

@ Tyler, whilst your tattoo may mean something to you, ou must understand why people find an image that means nothing to them "tacky" or whatever word they choose? Even if it means something to you, then to someone else it may just look like a "silly shape" or something similar.

Personally I have no issues with what people choose to do to their bodies, and won't make a comment about things like that, to the person or behind their backs, I don't know if it's personal or just something they wanted, not for me to judge/decide.

Just as long as you don't try to talk me into getting one. EVER.

Meh I'll just quote myself then, It's fine to think it's tacky, but like I said, if you don't understand it then often times you will think it's tacky.

I was thinking about getting a tattoo, but I'm not sure what I would want. I'd like to get it at the base of my neck or on the shoulder, but I just don't know what. It would probably be something really nerdy like a reference from an anime if I did.

that's their problem though innit, it's not like he (or any of us with tattoo's folk don't like) are forcing our tattoos upon other people, if we want them and like them, who gives a shit about whether other people 'can't understand' why we do it, or have what we have

I'm an artistic person by nature, I'd cover myself in tattoos if I could afford it and I wasn't so bloody indecisive.

Why? Because it's MY body and I don't care about what other people think about what I do with it. Last time I checked, I didn't baa, follow and worry about what the crowd were doing

I mean yeah, there's folk that get things just because its the current trend, which is more likely to be regretted, and then there's the folk that dont get them done of reputable tattooists, which is just down right stupid - there's nothing worse than a poorly done tattoo. But well, it's them that have to live with them, no one else

I LIKE my tattoos, even the dolphin to an extent which i want covering up xD

At the end of the day though it's none of their business how it looks really. You wouldn't question the car someone drives, nor would you question their taste in relationships etc. PLUS! Shu mentioned they are covered too, and when you look at where they are, they are hardly on display unless he is wearing shorts etc.

I have Final Fantasy themed tattoos...Aztec designed tattoos. Murals to me, etc. So someone would look at half of them and think "What the fuck did you get that for?" - I don't regret them at all, and even now I enjoy going to the studio to add to it.

It's abotu the artwork and the meaning to you. I've seen men with scrible son their arm, and what was it? Their son/daughters first drawing, or like.. something like that made in school. And not for one second did I consider it tacky or untasteful. Quite cute actually and I would gladly give up a piece of my skin for something similar.

Really you have a lot of people out there who disaprove of almost anything. It's best to just ignore them really. It's not just with tattoos, but with everything really. Does make my blood boil though.

I have 3 tattoos atm. I have a tribal band on my right arm, it was the 1st one I got when I turned 16. I got 2 on my chest on my 18th birthday in Tennessee after I graduated highschool. I got a bear ripping through my left side of my chest with bloody bear claws. On the right side I have half a skeleton skull, with an 8ball for an eye and it shows where a scythe is coming up from its left hand. These cost me around 600, got them back to back on the same day. Took 4 hours to complete, the nipple area is a little painful when it was being done around there, nothing that's too bad though. I love tattoos and wanna get some more. They are very addicting and feel good when they're being put on your skin. I love needles so it never bothered me, but dont let them fool you by the look. It doesnt hurt when they get started, it feels like a bee sting at first but then feels like a warming sensation after the 1st minute or so.

I have no beef with ink being put on people.
