Am I the only one who thought Locke was the main character at first? I mean, can you really blame me? In all the other Final Fantasys the main character was a male, and after Terra fell into that hole, a heroic male character with his own theme song shows up and you start playing as him. The heroic character goes and saves the girl and even after she's saved, you're STILL playing as him. To play as Terra you'd have to rearrange your party on your own. I mean come on, who wouldn't think Locke was the main character after that. I know you play as Terra at the beginning of the game, but still.

BTW: I haven't beaten the game yet, I only got to the part where Sabin joins your party. So no spoilers please.

There is much debate as to who the main character of FFVI actually is, personally I think it's Terra.

Sorry, but I didn't think Locke was the main character when I first saw him, I always just saw him as a supporting character. Although I do see him as the main male character, but yeah as I said before I've always seen Terra as the main character.

In my opinion Locke , Terra and Celes share the role of main character in FF VI.
In the World of Balance Locke and Terra share the role of main character as the game centers more around them than the others, and in the World of Ruin Celes is inarguably the main character.

Terra is the main character everything revolves around her and her race the espers.

I don't think there is a main character.
All characters have their own story and problems, Locke's got Caroline( I think that's her name). Cyan writes those letters and is missing a wife etc.
Some characters have more relevance than others though.
I don't think that you could argue that Relm is as important as Locke or Celes.

I think it was Rachel.

But yes FF6 if peculiar in that it gives many characters equal time, and a lot of character development.

Personally I'm still thinking Terra is the main character in that she is a pivotal part of the plot, with the esper world etc. However, I think she has more time off-screen and out of your party than any other Final Fantasy has done with a leading character. So it's complicated.

Pretty much from when I started playing the game, I knew Terra was the main character. They should make more FF games with a female main character...

I'm developing an RPG in which ALL the playable characters are female.

This is how I feel mostly, but there isnt a true main character, but rather a couple the story focuses on from time to time

1st half of the game Terra was definitley the main character as the story revolves around her.

What eroded that was the 2nd half which made it more of a "team". I made sure not to spoil the "halves" im talking about but the 2nd half can only go to Kefka.

I thought it was Terra at first, don't really think it even crosed my mind that it would be locke, but later on, for the amount of time you have Celes...and have alot of celes only time, she kinda feels like the main character. Ultimately, I'd say it was both Celes and Terra that were the main characters. Alot of the cut scenes seemed to revolve more around those 2 aswel (and Locke I suppose :wacky:)

I would have to agree with most people here and say that there really isn't a 'main' character. While it focuses more on Terra, Locke, and Celes, it was story about a group of people who came together fight a greater evil. They all had interesting stories and all were important, at least to me. :P

While I agree that there isn't one specific main character as such. I'd have to agree with Terra, Locke and Celes being the closest things to main characters.

I think Celes got the most screen time, and the most memorable scenes - The Opera, her attempted suicide, stabbing Kefka, etc. But the first half of the story revolves around Terra, and while Celes takes command in the second half of the story, it's more of a team effort.

I included Locke as a "main" character too, as he is important in both Celes and Terra's stories, and, out of all the other characters, I think his backstory / subplot with Rachel is the most elaborated upon.

Yeah there wasnt really a specific main character as such but its obvious that certain characters ie sabin, gau, cyan took sort of a backseat when compared to locke celes and terra. I dont think this is a bad thing though i found it refreshing putting who i wanted in my team, really i made my main character sabin. Its obvious though why terra is seen as the main character, shes the first one you are introduced to and the storyline of the game generally focuses on her involvement.

Ok, i finally got Final Fantasy VI Advance and I'm at the part where Terra turns into an esper and flies away. So far, Locke still seems like the main character.

This is really debatable, but I don't believe there was an actual main character. Terra had a good majority of the story centered around her and her struggle with finding out she was an Esper, but at the same time Celes and Locke are given equal amount of time having their stories shelled out.

I'm gonna say it was all about Gogo, just to throw a wrench in the cogs XD

At first I thought that Terra was the main character as well, but as the game follows through, I'll lean more towards Locke as well; or just the fact that FFVI does not have a single main character.

Sure you start out as Terra, travel with Terra to learn of her past and her parents and why the "government" wants her powers, but really, FFVI does this for every character. You learn a major part of their life at some point in the game, and you know each character deeply (except for those few screwed up characters). I mean, even Gau can be looked into fairly decent with his dad who abandoned him and left him to die in the Voldt.

I would go with no main character before I had to choose one, but if Humpty Dumpty and Mariah Carey held a gun to my head and told me to pick a main character in FFVI, I'd say Locke.

Terra most probably is the main char only due to the fact that she is more featured than Celes. (logo art, gba and ps1 box art, etc) but I would say she doesn't play as big of a role as Celes in most of the game(Celes who was marooned on the beach, Celes who had the main role in La Mezzo de Catterre, Celes who went looking for everyone), etc.

I agree completely, but I don't think it is important. Perhaps Kefka is the main Character, you don't use him, but he is the story.

Actually speaking, this game doesn't truly have a main character. But at the beginning of the game, we use Terra, plus she's an esper, which nobody is. The story does revolve around her, and her race with her past history including her being used as a weapon. All the same, Celes too has a major role to play in the game in the later part of the game. So does Locke, and his relationship with Celes, and about Rachel. A guy doesn't necessarily have to be the main character, although in most FF games a guy is. In FF Dissidia, Tetsuya Nomura must have assumed Terra as the main character if not he woudn't have placed her as the heroine representing Final Fantasy VI opposing Kefka Pallazo.

That makes sense considering that every character in FFVI is in a sense the "main" character and I suppose Nomura was looking for a character to represent FFVI so he chose Terra to represent FFVI altougth Celes would have been better in my opinion.
