I think it's safe to say for a fact that Sephiroth has grown exponentially in strength over the last few years. I'm having great difficulty defeating him. I'll give you my stats, and maybe you can tell me what I've done wrong:

Items:
  • Fatal Crest Keyblade (Allows unlimited chain of combo's during MP charge)
  • Cosmic Belt
  • Dark Anklet
  • Firaga Bangle
  • Cosmic Arts
  • Experts Ring
  • Garnet Ring
  • Potion
  • Hi-Potion x2
  • Ether x2
  • Mega-Potion
Abilities
  • Guard
  • Upper Slash
  • Horizontal Slash
  • Finishing Leap
  • Retaliating Slash
  • Slapshot
  • Dodge Slash
  • Slide Dash
  • Guard Break
  • Explosion
  • Aerial Sweep
  • Aerial Spiral
  • Aerial Finish
  • Counterguard
  • Trinity Limit
  • High Jump LV2
  • Aerial Dodge LV1

  • Combo Boost
  • Air Combo Boost
  • Reaction Boost
  • Finishing Plus
  • Combination Boost
  • Experience Boost
  • Leaf Bracer
  • Defender
I have Cura, Hi-Potion, Potion and Ether to my customised buttons.

Level 63
HP: 120
MP: 140
Str: 45
Def: 49
Mag: 45
Fire & Dark Resistance = 20%
Other res: 0%

I realise I must be doing something wrong. A little help?

EDIT:
I don't know if there was some sort of glitch, but I had one elixer left, used it, then three more appeared. I managed to get him down to 4 HP bars this time, because of that, but His Meteor/Heartless Angel/Glowing Arms flurries really took their toll on me :(

EDIT 2:
I now have the Ultima Keyblade, so I removed the Fatal Crest, only to soon after receive the Berserk Charge ability. Excellent. I also gained Aerial Dodge Level 2.

EDIT 3:
After updating myself (edit 2) I managed to defeat him, at last. I'll keep this thread open, so anyone else having difficulty can take some of my expert advice

For starter in KH series. Its not that easy.
But I got the hang of it after 3 tries, and he was so predictable.

Personally, he was a challenge for me for a while (I'd die 2-3 times before beating him all cuz of 1 little screw up).

I'd recommend having Reflega. Use it when he does that meteor thing. Honestly, there are people who say that doesn't work and they're bullshitting you. I won so easy once I decided to use that.

Also, have elixers assigned to the O button. When he does that thing that brings you down to 1 HP and 0 MP, it does wonders when you do that and hit the reaction command right after. Block and heal, all at once.

Berserker is good, but you have to maked sure that you aren't at no MP when finishing the battle, as you need finishing moves to beat them.

I found that the Oblivion Keyblade did wonders. I beat him once with the Kingdom Key, but it really was stupidly hard. Oblivion kicked ass. Ultima is always good (especially due to the MP Hastega ability you get from it), but not necessary. I beat him with the Hero's Crest the first time.

Lets see...Oh yeah! Try equipping that Upper Slash and guard ability. Guard as soon as you see him warp (on the ground) and you block all but that Super Slash attack.

He was easily the hardest boss in the game, and was the only one in ALL modes to kill me even once. After you get the pattern down, though, its fairly easy. Just do the following:

When you start the battle, use the reaction command immediately. Make sure you lock onto him during the Guard reaction. Then attack and launch him into the air, continuing an airborne attack.

When he warps, let him hit you. As soon as he dissappears (If you have Retaliating Slash) hit the [square] button and lock onto him. You'll counter his attack and damage him. Take him with another airborne flurry of combos. If he does that electric-ball thingy, make sure to constantly tap the Guard (Square button) command. It'll reflect the balls and keep Sephiroth from harming you. He may also use the Fire3 and Magnet3 abilities, which pull you towards him and starts up eruptions. Aerial Dodge is nice here (but not necessary), and continuously jumping away from them will do you wonders.

Keep this cycle going, using the occasional Guard reaction command. KEEP AT A DISTANCE AT ALL POSSIBLE TIMES! It's stupid to just run up and expect him to not attack. He's a melee master, and has a very long range, so stay away.

Eventually he'll float up in the air and hit you (all the time) with a burst of light. Immediately use an elixir and tap the [triangle] button. Lock on again and continue the cycle.

Eventually, you'll get him down to his last few bars. Somewhere along the way, he'll coat himself with a glowing reddish-pink light. This means he now has the ability to use the Comet2 attack (straight from FFVII). Continue the cycle as normal. When he warps away and begins the Comet2 attack (Aerial Dodge Lv.1 would be great here), you MUST run from side to side, jumping as often as you can. You might get hit once, but that's no biggy. A better way would be to continuously use Reflect/Reflera/Reflega. You stay in one spot and bounce the attacks back (they won't damage him). Then get prepared for another warp or Super Slash Reaction Attack. Start the cycle over again. Repetitive much?

Well, if you follow these guidelines and cycles, you will eventually take him down. It's a good battle, one I always look forward to, so take your time and have fun. He is the ultimate boss battle in the game. Magic is of almost no use here (except Reflect and Cure magic), and should not be casted.

Have fun!

haha! i suck s**t! i can't beat him for s**t. i always die a few seconds into the battle. same in kh, cant beat him. thank goodness his optional. but i do love the bit that when hes like "what is cloud doing" haha i have the best time making fun of that. i like call out "ya mum!" (haha, his mum is a robot! haha)

I thought he was very hard but not as hard as I expected, since the Sephiroth of KH1 and FFVII were total demons.

He was defenitely much more of a pain in the ass. But there wasn't much difference except that he took off twice as much damage. I lived, I had total rapeage.

He was hardly "predictable". It was possible to quickly counter-attack him, but you couldn't "predict" anything.

Ummm.... He was. He was the most predictable boss in the game since he was the exact same with KH1 Seph with only an extra attack that could be blocked by reaction commands...

Sephiroth is the hardest boss in the game but not unbeatable, I waited until I was Lv.99 but you don't have to, the trick is to take an ability away from Sora I can't remember what it's called but it stops you from using a Finishing Attack when you have no MP and you can't beat Sephiroth without a Finishing Attack, even when Sephiroth has no HP left you can hit him all you want, without a Finishing Attack you're dead.

I haven't beaten him on Standard, not even close, I highly doubt I'll get very close in Proud xD Although I guess I really haven't been making serious attempts xD

I beat him on proud in KH1 and 2 and he's honestly not that hard at all. He's to easy to predict.
