OK, i dont wanna make myself look silly or anythin ere lol.. but although I've played and completed this game numerous times I still get confused with the storyline. I get most of it, but what really confuses me is when we learn that Nibelheim was burned down and destroyed when Sephiroth learned of his true fate.. and I'm sure this fire did actually happen didnt it..? I mean it was referred to numerous times during the game, and even in Advent Children..

so..

why is it, that when Cloud and Co. return to Nibelheim for the 1st time, do all the locals deny any fire having happened in the last 5 years?

did it not actually happen? am I just lost? Please helllp!

Now that you talk about it, it does kinda confuse me aswell. Perhaps they are lying about it to forget all about there past. Or maybe this was just something that cloud made up in his mind.

The locals work for Shinra, they rebuilt the town and acted like nothing happened. A nice big government conspiracy
*Edit* Have a look in Tifa's room, there are letters on the dressing table explaining what happened

The locals were replaced by people from ShinRa, and they were paid to deny any fire or any strangeness that ever happened. ShinRa wanted to silence the Nibelhelm incident, and went as far to pay people to act as though they had always lived there.

The fire still happened, but ShinRa rebuilt the town, and noone who was around for the fire still lives there.

I think that's the case anyway.

Were the survivors made into the clones? I think thats why there was no one from the town left

I think only Zangan survived, and he took Tifa to Midgar to get her healed up after getting hit by Sephiroth. All the others, I think they must have died or become Sephy clones as you say, Hojo does like his experiments:O

Read the letters on Tifa's desk and also watch Last Order. Explains everything.

The town was burned down. Shortly after, Hojo and his team turned up and captured any survivors (which includes Cloud and Zack). The survivors ended up being the experients in Hojo's plan to make a Sephiroth 'Clone' and ended up as the wandering Black Caped goons. Only Zangan escaped with Tifa and went to Midgar to find a decent doctor to make her better after her run-in with Sephiroth. Hojo ordered that the town was to be restored exactly and installed Shinra employees to help cover up the incident.

What always bothered me was the the Hojo experiment subject who lived in Sector Five Slums. There was no explanation for that person's presence there. Any ideas?

That always bugged me as well. I think it might have been foreshadowing since he has the tattoo on his arm, but it's annoying how they never said anything about him at all.

Thats a good point. Another is why the Sephiroth you follow about (whos really Jenova) also has a number on his hand. It's mentioned by Dio and I think Cloud as well at some other point. Why would he have a tattoo personally?....

Sephiroth has a number because he's also one of Hojo's experiments. I think his number was "I" wasn't it?

Leading onto that point - do the Black hooded subjects share the same, or nearly the same, DNA as Sephiroth? I'm sure at one point he describes them as his family, and it might explain (in fictional terms of course) why he has some sort of power over them.

Okay, Moonchild pretty much nailed it. When Sephiroth went batshit insane, he burned down the town. Okay. Well, Shinra came in and pretty much went "oh shit". They've gotta cover it up. Which means no witnesses.

So what they do is round up all of the surviors and use them to make Sephiroth 'clones' (the term 'clone' is misused here; they're not really clones at all)

This also explains why Cloud was all messed up in the head, and why he and Zack were stuck in those mako tanks in the Shinra basement. They were used as 'experiement's but they escaped.

Afterward, to get rid of any evidence, Shinra rebuilds the town and places their own employees there to pose as the inhabitants.

That is why you see a pristine Niblehiem years later after it burned down.

They have Jenova Cells, about it really. Sephiroth can control them because he has control over Jenova and the cells.

I asssume that would be because he was the first one to be experimented on or infused with Jenovas cells or whatever, but would that mean he was tattooed since birth?

If I had a big number tattooed on me all my life I think Id wanna know where it came from - can't really explain it away as a birth mark.... unless your Damien and its 666 on the back of your head & you wouldn't be able to see it anyway, unless you looked in a mirror and had a bald head

Exactly what I was thinking....first of the experiments but I'm sure he'd noticed that some idiot has soiled his skin for life with a quite lousy tattoo .

Hahaha weird shizzle

Didn't someone say that the Sephiroth with the tatoo on the arm was actually Jenova? If so, then Hojo obviously put it there, lol.
As for the Nibelhiem story, if you watched Last Order you could save everyone a bit of explaining.

ohhhhhhhhhhh! thanks guys! That has ALWAYS bugged me!! I saw Last Order but Never saw the letters in Tifa's room so it gives me a good reason to play the game again hehe. seriously tho Im so glad you cleared that up for me, Il enjoy the game so much more now! I owe you all a pint! :D

Also, to add to the clone you fnd in the tunnel in Midgar discussion... a while ago I read somewhere (possibly in a walkthrough) that he was somehow linked with the revival of Aeris. In the version where this can be done, (didnt they have a directors cut out in Japan or something??) further in the game after Aeris is killed Cloud goes to speak with the clone in Midgar, maybe to ask him about Sephiroth or Hojo Im not sure tbh.. anyway what I heard is that he holds the key to Aeris' revival. Thats what I heard anyway.. ;)

But by Aerith's revival they could have meant anything, lol. They could even have meant Holy. They're always chattin like nutters.

btw I might take you up on that pint mwa hahahaha.

Well the Sephiroth you follow during the game is actually Jenova in Sephiroth form, but I don't think Jenova's tattoo would show if she had one and would show Sephiroths instead because of the change.

that sick man is zack. he had a #2 tatoo. I forget when, but you can see a cut scene where Zack escapes Hojo's lab with Cloud. Then they are attacked by Shinra Soldiers and Zack is shot near Midgar. Now if you ask the people around the sick man, they say that he was found near Midgar, badly injured. This explains why Aeris wanted to help him. And I believe that Aeris's mother also said something like this "Aeris once had a bf in SOLDIER . . . and something terrible happend." That bf is Zack and the fact that she knows something horrible happend to Zack confirms that the man in the tube is in fact Zack. And after the reunion, if you go back, you'll see that he is no longer there. If you ask the people around, they will say "I dont know where he went, said he was going to some reunion or something" I really dont remember the exact words, but I remember for a fact that the word "reunion" was in there. So now we know for a fact that he is an Sephiroth Clone. The question is if he is Zack. O and if you're wondering how I know Zack was shot around Midgar, it is because of the reports in the lab in Niebliem. One of them says that "escapee #2" (might be 1, idk) was shot in the hills of Midgar (again Idk if it was hills but I remember it said Midgar). And the report of the other escapee stated that his "wherebouts are unknown" (I'm pretty sure this time it said exactly this). Thats Cloud.

*edit* ahh yes even in the last order it say they were shot around midgar and i also forgot mention that i think i remember one of the reports in the lab saying that one of the "samples" (escapees w/e) had a #2 tattoo (zack). However I think the makers decided the change the storyline a bit to make it a more suitable ending because in Crisis Core (which i have not played but have seen the ending) Zack actually dies or at least it looked like he did.
