Nintendo The Last Story

That is very beautiful. The designs of the Hero and Heroine :ryan: The graphics are really great also. The tiger I wonder what role it will have xD. I see a bit of the battle system. It looks epic. Thanks Olivia <3

The Last Story's Main Characters Have Names

Just in case you were expecting to refer to them as "the guy and girl with the tiger," this week's Jump provides the name for the hero and heroine of Mistwalker and Nintendo's The Last Story.

The hero is Elza. He's a mercenary who's come to Ruri Island and admires the knights, who have both rank and power.

The heroine is Kanan. The magazine says that she wears a white dress and seems to have a high class air about her.

Aside from the names, all the info in Jump is old. But this does appear to be the game's first Jump appearance, so perhaps we can take it as an indication that Nintendo is beginning its push for the Wii's next big RPG to follow Xenoblade.

Oh good its nice to know there names finally xD. These 2 games Last story and Xenoblade are gonna be awesome!!! Does the tiger have a name?

No, the tiger unfortunately does not have a name (yet), but I'll affectionally call him Fluffy until he does have an actual name. D=

I raised an eyebrow when I saw the main hero's name. Elza, I thought - doesn't that name sound more fitting on a female character instead?

So....they're really not the best names I have ever seen. But that's normally the case in 80% of JRPGs, so I'm used to such names at this point.

The only thing we’ve heard about The Last Story’s release date is that the game is supposed to launch in Japan sometime this year. Although that can still happen, it seems as though development will carry on a bit longer than expected. Hironobu Sakaguchi updated his blog yesterday and told fans that production time has been extended. This news is somewhat odd as Sakaguchi recently said that the game was approaching the end of development. However, it’s possible that something simple such as the need for extra polish resulted in the title’s “delay.” It seems very likely that The Last Story will make an appearance at E3, so hopefully Nintendo will officially announce the game for North America and share a concrete release date for all territories.

Oh awesome its gonna be at E3. I look foward to what they will do at E3. Probably announce the release date like the news says or maybe reveal a trailer!

New scans, battle system screenshots, Elza and Kanan etc.

It took me a while to find them - but here are the scans with screenshots of the battle system. And a bit of ElzaxKanan. xD

P.S. Tinypic, I hate you sometimes. :jtc:

Omg Kanan is so beautiful and above all these scans are just so lovely <33 Elza looks pretty cool too xD. So Kanan will use magic obvsiously. Thanks Olivia <33

Anyone else just a tiny bit disappointed by the screen shots so far? It doesn't look bad or anything, actually I think it looks pretty gorgeous for a Wii game, but I'm really missing all the colours they were showing in the concept art.

Anyone else seen the new trailer for this yet?

Still looking very good for a Wii game, and if the gameplay is as action packed as the trailer indicates, it should be worth checking out. I'm still a bit bothered by the lack of colours though. I like my games colourful, especially when it comes to systems with relatively primitive graphics like the Wii.

This looks much better than EVERYTHING SE has put out since FFIX. (Seeing as I hate FFX-FFXIII)

I will buy a Wii now... Just to play this game. :mokken:

I'm looking forward to The Last Story and all...

But am I the only one that's disappointed that they canceled Cry On?

Probably. :P

It was very early in development and we didn't know much about the game other than that Sakaguchi was going for a very emotional experience, that it was supposed to be an action RPG and that the main character was named Sally. Not really enough info to get excited about if you ask me.

That is actually looking like it could be a pretty decent game if the rest of it looks and works as good as what theyve shown in the trailer.

It looks like it could well be worth a buy...

The lack of colours don't really bother me. It's only a small thing and I'm not letting something like that stifle my fascination in this game. It's an interesting contrast to Blue Dragon though, and more in common with Lost Odyssey.

I can see what they meant by the large towns where you can potentially get lost in. That minimap of the Island's port town does look rather large. It's a nice change to the last console JRPG I've played - FFXIII.

As for the battle system, even though it surprised me at first (it seems totally different to what I imagined in the text descriptions), I'm really loving the FPS aspects of it, such as the cross-hair aiming and the cover system.

Looks pretty good so far! The score in that trailer sounded neat too, it's so Uematsu. I actually like the way it looks, I understand what you mean by it not being colorful. But the way I see it, it distinguish itself with this style from another JRPG that's also on the Wii. Leave all the colorfulness for Xenoblade imo :wacky:

I'm glad to see what the town finally looks like. It's everything I've imagined. And the combat looks great! Real-time and fast-paced. Just how I like it. GameMage approves +123456

OMG It looks so awesome. Really excited. The graphics are really beautiful for a wii game. The gameplay looks great. The battle system is definately interesting. The palaces and all that remind me of Lost Odyssey. This is going to be so great just like Xenoblade. The wii rpgs finally rise :ryan:

Sakaguchi's been blogging again:

“me and my team poured 120% of our energy into this title.” He feels anxious like a kid leaving for a journey. “I am completely pouring everything into this one, there is a strong feeling this may be my last work. “

Now nearly everyone from Siliconera to Eurogamer are wondering whether The Last Story will be Sakaguchi's final game.

Wait.....hadn't Squaresoft done the same thing back when they made the first Final Fantasy? :hmmm:

Oh no. I really like Sakaguchi's works. I mean He made FF, Lost odyssey and others. Though I think he actually did put his whole mind int this cause judging from the trailer it looks very good. It is unique in a way. Though I hope this isnt his last one.

Meh, it doesn't really bother me that much. It's not as if he's some sort of "God" that every gamer should mourning about. Imo, he's done nothing noteworthy whilst he's been with Mistwalker. A few years down the line someone will take his place.
