Nintendo The Last Story

http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/08/17/last_story_iwata_asks/

Pretty interesting summary of an interview with Sakaguchi. Seems like he's taking a much more hands on approach with The Last Story than he did with the previous Mistwalker games. This makes me even more excited about this game. I've always thought that the lack of quality in Mistwalker's RPGs was due to Sakaguchi's limited involvement in the actual development process, and the way I read his comments in this interview, it seems like Sakaguchi himself has come to the same conclusion ("riding on the wrong wave" and all that)

I am curious to hear more about this game. A release date would also be nice :hmmm: Well I have been looking up recently and some new characters were revealed. I just hope that this will release not only in Japan. Same with Xenoblade I am still waiting :sad3:

Now that there is more and more info on the game, I'm actually getting more and more excited.
I didn't have much hope for the game at first, but it sounds like something I'd want to play.
It's a shame I don't have a damned Wii...

It might be worth getting a Wii for man. With this, Xenoblade, and Dragon Quest X I think the Wii is going have by far the best JRPGs we've seen this generation :)

It's certainly worth thinking about, although I don't know any details about DQX, and I've never heard of Xenoblade.

The Last Story presentation has been streamed. You can watch it here http://www.ustream.tv/channel/the-last-story-presentation and I think tomorrow it will be on the official Last Story site. This presentation is very interesting. You see alot of the battle feautures, towns etc. Alot of the characters also. Sakaguchi does go through different save files but it is nothing spoiler worthy. Just a few cutscenes. In Japanese though so it shouldnt ruin anything.

STOP! Don't get too excited.

Nintendo’s told VG247 it has “no plans” currently to bring The Last Story to western audiences.“We have no plans at present,” a rep told us when asked if it was bring brought west at some point this year.

Shimmy!

If they seriously have no plans then that really sucks alot. But if it is only at the present, it can probably still happen in the coming months :hmmm: But if it does not there will be blood like I always say..

Inevitably it'll find its way over here. I can probably however, see some hesitation in Mistwalker when you consider what kind of audience you're releasing the game to. Over on this side of the world, you have a Wii audience predominantly more casual and family-focused, and the game itself isn't exactly getting as much attention as in Japan at all. Sorry to generalise Nintendo, but the Wii isn't exactly a good home for the more "hardcore" new IPs that aren't already a deeply entrenched name like Mario or Zelda. I can honestly see the game selling rather slowly over here, which will be a shame.

Well I have been browsing videogames sites for weeks and every time I hear them talking about the LAST STORY...I have no freeking idea what this game is about..Im not Wii player anyway and its a fact the LAST STORY wont come to the WEST...

But check this guy out destroying a special copy of the game.....even I was shocked..:ffs:

It seems that Japanese gamers are not deaf to our pleas for a Western release of The Last Story. In fact, one plucky lad in particular has heard us, and saw fit to answer in the most compassionate of ways -- obtaining a copy of Mistwalker's game and annihilating it on video.
Either that or (judging by his fanboy name) he's just incredibly pissed that the game is a Wii exclusive. Either way, he's a dickface for cutting it up, especially with we poor fools in the West clamoring for a localized copy.
I want to both Nerd Rage and shake the douchebag's hand for his superb trolling. In any case, I hope it was worth the Yen to be Internet famous for a day.
[Thanks, Nintendaan]

I hope this game does get released in the West!! I mean come on!! Sakaguchi and Nobuo working together!! That's all I need to know. Come on Mistwalker!! Release it here!!

^^

That guy is an ASSHOLE!!!

The Last Story confirmed for Europe ...

We knew clearly even if Nintendo had not really announced yet: The Last Story released in Europe! It Ludovic Amouroux, product manager at Nintendo France, who has just told our colleagues that GameBlog Japanese RPG, made by the creator of the Final Fantasy series, come out well in our green lands for the year 2012.
Xenoblade arrive in September for the Wii, like The Last Story next year.
It's Sunday, The Last Story confirmed ... How beautiful day friends!

A good sign indeed, though on the safe side for the The Last Story, I'll still be waiting for super-official announcements first before I get too excited. If Pandora's Tower and possibly Earth Seeker finds their way over here as well, then this is going to be an excellent send-off for my Wii, which is somewhere in the cupboard collecting dust next to a Wii Sports disc.

Strangely enough, I'm not actually that excited about this game as I previously was a year ago. I love the typical Sakaguchi setting with the Renaissance-like architecture and the general fantasy-feel of the game, but after seeing Xenoblade, this game looks a bit underwhelming and limited in comparison. No doubt it's probably one of those games where it's a lot more appealing when playing than just watching, so I'm keeping an open mind.

So is The Last Story just going to Europe as well? :sad3: I see no confirmation about that yet... so there is still hope for North America to get it. Xenoblade is not coming here... but Nintendo of America has said nothing about both of these games coming to NA. It is a shame really, The WII needs better rpgs. This is the original source http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/26966 At the end it says NOA have not commented :sad3: I guess Ill be sad again... if they do not release this one in NA as well. I am still excited for this game... so that is a shame.

The Last Story Limited Edition to be released in Europe

Europeans will be able to purchase both standard and limited editions of The Last Story when it releases in the region next month. The limited edition will include a miniature art book, a soundtrack CD with seven songs from composer Nobuo Uematsu, and a copy of the game in steelbook case. Both editions of the game will be released in Europe on February 24. Still no word on a US release. Thanks: Siliconera, Cubed3.

I have the standard edition on pre-order - I'm not paying £10 more for the special, considering the OST for this game is horrific and I don't really need more art samples - but in all honesty I can't say I'm looking forward to it that much. If this can even come close to competing with the sheer brilliance of Xenoblade, I will be stunned. It looks like it'll be fun, but not memorable in the same way Xenoblade was.

Buuut...oh god, the voice acting, it's so British. I LOVE IT. We need more video games with voice acting like this; if you've heard on American voice cast, you really have pretty much heard them all. At the very least, at least I'll enjoy listening to the characters talk. xD

I'll quickly get my standard edition pre-order in sometime when to avoid disappointment later, but I'm not exactly in a rush to play this game. There are other people further in front of the queue. The combat system looks like it will be an acquired taste, and the huge Assassin's Creed style town aside, the game is reportedly a very linear affair, which is quite the opposite of the epic scope of the world we've seen in Xenoblade. I don't expect this to topple Xenoblade from the Wii throne at all either, but hey, it's very nice of Nintendo of Europe to give this to us, and Mistwalker is actually doing some interesting innovations to the genre after the archaic-looking Lost Odyssey.

Name changes are alright, because Elza to me always sounded like a girl's name - and it is in many European countries such as Spain and Germany. Some sound more generic-nised, such as Dragan from the somewhat silly Quark. Calista's an awesome change from Kanan. Awesome to hear the British voices, and I think I even heard a tad dodgy Scottish in there somewhere. For a high fantasy game, it definitely works a lot more naturally than if they suddenly start spouting out Americanisms. Syrenne may turn out to be one of my favourites, because she sounds like a genuine northern lass. We need more genuine northerners in RPGs, rather than your usual Yuri Lowenthals and Laura Baileys.

In before Square sues them for copyright infringement. :ohshit:

Someone needs to put down the thesaurus.

Seriously...
