The Reaper
Name: Thanato
Age: Unknown
Race: God of Death
Appearance: Thanato chooses to appear as a human with a height of roughly 6' 6". His torso, arms and legs are wrapped in ancient bandages, which appear to be in the process of rotting away, though they have not changed for many millenia. The skin and flesh beneath these bandgaes is an off grey/green colour, and in some places hangs from the bleached white bones beneath in great swathes. The hands which creep from the end of these bandages are no better than skeletal, with the flesh dangling uselessly from several fingers and trailing veins, too long without blood, hanging limp at the wrists.
Worn over the bandages is a floor length robe, the colour of midnight. It's appearence however, is not better than the rest of Thanato. Torn and shredded in places, with a mixture of dirt and dust caking the bottom, it too would appear to have seen literally thousands of years of use with no respite. The only part in what could be considered useable condition is the hood, which sits swept up over its wearer's head.
Or what was perhaps once a head. Where one would find a face on a normal human instead sits a mask of flesh of the same grey/geen shade as the rest of the body. Two gaping sockets sits where eyes may once has existed, and where a nose would normally be is nothing more than the bare bone of the skulll beneath.
Stertching out at awkward angles from his back are a pair of black feathered wings. The vones and tendons beneath the layers of feathers are visible in some places, particularly at the joints. The feathers themselves stick out at odd angles, appearing to be broken in many places, and matted into great clumps in others. His total wingspan at full extention is over four feet, adding to his already fear inspiring appearence.
Gender: N/A
Personality: As the God of Death, Thanato has only one personality, cold and entirely heartless (literally too). His job is to decide which of those who have already died will suffer in eternal pain. His true purpose is to decide who must suffer, and either cause that suffering on his fortress world, or collect them and bring them to that world where the torturing will begin.
Weapons: A Scythe. Symbolic of his position, the scythe he carries at all times is greater in length than his own height. The blade itself is over three foot in length. The overall size and weight of this weapon make it fairly unweildy, and almost impossible to wield for any normaly human, however his thousands of years of using it, and position as a god mean he can use it as effectively as any standard rank and file soldier would use a sword.
However it's main purpose is to cause immense pain to those who are destined for a life of eternal damnation. He prides himself on his ability to torture the souls of those who have departed, or cause unimaginable amounts of pain to those who have not yet died.
Abilities: Touch of Death: By merely touching someone, Thanato can drain their physical and mental strength. The effects upon the person he touches vary in severity and length depending on how long he has direct contact (skin/bone on skin) with his target.
Less than one second: For example accidentally brushing against some exposed flesh.
The person who has come into contact will feel cold, shiver unexpectedly and perhaps have a slight lingering feeling of dread. Nothing more.
One to two seconds: Proper physical contact, for example stroking someone's face, or an attempt to attack with uncovered flesh i.e. a punch/slap.
The part of the body which has come into contact with Thanato will suddenly feel numb. The owner of this limb may feel nauseous for a few seconds.
Around five seconds: An attempt to strangle or any other sort of physical contact.
The person who has come into contact will feel physically drained in whichever part of the body has touched Thanato. A more severe feeling of nausea. Again these effects will only last for a few seconds.
Extreme prolonged contact (~15 seconds): Perhaps being held or pinned down, or again strangled.
The person who has come into contact will feel physically weak all over, and may even drop any heavy objects. May feel tired if they are not particularly mentally strong.
Around 30 seconds: As if attempting to kill someone by strangulation.
The user will feel extremely weak. They may even be unable to stand. May actually vomit if not overly physically strong, and become unconcious if not mentally strong.
One minute or more:
Death.
Despite their dilapidated appearence, his wings allow him to fly short distances, or move along, slightly above ground level for extended periods of time, giving the illusion that he is floating.
As a "God of Death" his visage can strike fear into all but the bravest of warrios, and those who stare deep into his eye sockets are said to go slowly mad with visions of terror and death. This combined with his ability to cause unexpected and unwanted feelings allow him to play a role of "fearmonger" amongst those who he chooses as his enemies, as well as those who must suffer at his hands.
History: He has always been a God. Born one, he grew up and was given his role many millenia ago, and has fulfilled that role ever since, on pain of exile. One with his power over the final part of someone's life must perform the role to the full. This is done from within his fortress on the Seventh World.
Over the years, he has hunted those who have been damned to eternal torture, following suggestions from both the side of Chaos and of Order, since to him to makes no difference who is being tortured, or truely, for what reason. all he cares is that when all is said and done, he knows who suffer eternally, and because of this, suffer they shall, be it in this life or the next.
More recently, as the fighting has escalted, his dark and cruel art has had more and more calling, since there are those on both sides who deserve torture, some more than others, and he is more than willing to carry out this task.
Weaknesses: His ability requires actual contact with a target, and stronger people are effected less by it. Also, since it would be possible to break out of any sort of lock or hold, it is unlikely the time will ever reach more than 5 - 10 seconds or so.
He has no choice as to who his ability effects. Be it ally or enemy, they WILL be affected by it if they are touched.
Being a god of death, and effectively evil because of it, Holy or "light" abilities have increased effects against him, however use of them against him may provoke him to fight, despite technically being neutral.
His completely average close combat ability and lack of means to fight at range means he relies on his ability to strike fear into the hearts of his enemies, before either cutting them down or forcing them into submission using his ability.
Hope this isn't too bad. Wasn't involved last time, so not got too much of an idea as to what happened. Also, let me know if the ability needs changing, seemed like a good idea, but might be a little too much.
