The Paths of Tragedy

Zeria looked at the one who introduced himself as Wylliam Morgan. He seemed rather arrogant too, which highly annoyed her. Her voice spoke with no kindness or trust towards him, for she knew not who he was. He had not been there when she'd gone to sleep.

"No, I've not heard of you, nor do I wish too. My journey is to find the man I'm searching for and that only. What happens to one such as you in none of my concern"

At that, she turned away and leapt up into a tree, relaxing and staring at the sky. The sunlight cast a glow on her pale skin and illuminated the shimmer on her lips and in her eyes. A remarkable beauty, and hidden behind the anger and sorrow lied a truly kind soul.

"Julius......where are you.....?"

Cairn was awaken by the first rays of the morning sun, the gentle glimmers of light delicately touched his eyelids. Cairn opened his eyes, most people was already awake, Gade had already prepared the horses and they were just waiting for Cairn. He went out of the tent, and got on his feet slowly picking up and packing all his gear. The fire he had lit the night before had already been extinguished. As he looked all around him, Cairn prepared his mind and soul for another day, the next page of the book he called "life". Having packed and prepared all his equipment, Cairn lifted the bag and placed it on top of the horse, of course the bag was not heavy, it was quite light for the things he had packed inside it. As he walked towards the road leading to Palacious, Cairn turned to see his companions to make sure everyone was ready.

"So, are we ready to go? If we leave no we will arrive the city of Palacious in about 2 or 3 hours."

Noticing that Cairn was finally awake, Zeria hopped down from the tree with a perfect leap, landing softly on the grass. She plucked a few roses from off of the vines and sighed, tucking them into her belt.

"I'm all set. I want to see this town called Palacious...a dream told me that I would find some useful information about Sir Julius there...oh, Cairn, by the way...here..."

She pulled a deep crimson colored rose and handed it to the man with a gentle smile.

"You took time to listen to me yesterday...and gave me more hope for finding Julius. You're a wise man. Thank you..."

"No, I just did what I had to do. Now, I say we leave now, if we want to be in Palacious by noon." Cairn turns around slowly as he approaches his horse. He gently caressed the animal's head, putting it at ease the stallion. Having finished, Cairn placed his left feet on one of the ropes attached to the saddle, and slightly pushed himself up with his left leg, finally getting on the horse's back. He quickly grabbed the horse by the reins, and then he brought his eyes on Zeria, who seemed to be still lost in her thoughts. "If you wish, you may accompany us. You might find some information about him in there, if you are lucky." Cairn pulled the reins to the left, making his horse turn to the left as well until both of them were facing the path towards Palacious. Gade was already mounting his horse, and he slowly approached Cairn and stopped by his left side. "So, going back home it seems. Let's be prepared, for any situation that may happen." Gade stated firmly as he set his eyes on the road ahead. From here we could even see the walls of the glorious royal city, the center of the Kingdom of Seseu, it was truly the jewel of this land. "Hurry up everyone!" Cairn commanded as he awaited for the others to arrive. "Oh and William, Jake and Hera. If you all wish to come with us, I would be grateful, at least until we reach the royal city. Besides, I heard that one of the lords of the kingdom was hosting some kind of tournament. I am sure you will all be quite interested...."

She snapped from her line of thought and made sure all of her gear was in place. The sunlight was beginning to bother her too, heating up her leather clothing and making her get rather warm, just standing there. Zeria sighed. There was only one problem...

"I will go with you. I must....but...how am I going to keep up? I highly doubt I can run as fast as your horses, and my shadow merging only lasts so long without a break......"

She tucked a rose into her hair as well, securing it with her hair ribbon.

"I'm too weak yet to use any powers and maintain them long enough. I'm sorry"

"Well you could go with one of us. How about coming with me?" An ever courteous Cairn extended his right hand towards Zeria, offering her to get on behind him. "I am sure my stallion can take us both. Make sure you don't fall."

Zeria blushed lightly, but smiled anyway.

"Thank you very much...though I'm not used to riding a horse, I'm sure that I'll be fine, since you're the one commanding it and not me"

She laughed slightly and took his hand.
~I don't think I've ever ridden on a horse before......this could prove to be an awesome new experience. If only Julius could see me now, he'd smile like he always used to...~

In the Forest of Nadian a old man shrouded in a black cloak walks along the path. All of a sudden a band of theives appears from the bushes weilding different kinds of weapons from daggers to swords. They blocked the old man off from continuing down the path. Then a rather large man who obviously was the leader of the group then stepped foward.

"Hand over everything you got gramps."

Bellowed the large man.

A senister smaile creeped over the old mas face.

"Or what?"

The old man almost whipsered in reply.

"Or we will end you pathetic life."

Replyed the leader of the band. The rest of the group grants in agreement as they began to brandish their weapons.

"As you wish."

Says the old man as he reaches into his cloak.

"But you won't like it."

As if it where materialized from thin air a 6 foot scythe began to emerge from his cloak. A intrically designed peice of work with a black metal theat seemed to snake its way up the staff and a giant red jewel set into the curved blade.

The bandits jaws dropped as they stared at the huge jem. With a bright flash the jewel began to glow with a evil red. Every bandit then feel to knees grasping their head in agony. The jewel slowly drove each and everyone mad. Eventuly they grew so mad they turned on each other and began slaying each other as the old man began to laughed.

Once all the bandits had perished the jewels glow faded and the old placed the scythe back into his cloak and started walking down the path again.

"I am coming for you my love.......Zeria."

He said as a smile creeped across his face.

"Very well." Cairn grasped the reins tightly as he set his eyes on the city of Palacious. Knowing that Arthvader and Jonad needed some more time to get ready, Cairn told Gade to stay with them until then. "We will regroup by the Inn called "The Silver Stallion". I am sure all of you will be able to get there safely." Cairn then rode his horse at top speed, towards the royal city. As if they were driven to reach this place by fate, Cairn's noble and strong stallion galloped at top speed as they left Mount Sair behind. Several hours later, they would reach the main gates of the city, to be greeted by one of the guards posted at the gate.

Zeria held onto Cairn tightly as the stallion rode. Her hair blew wildly in the passing winds, and she kept her eyes closed tightly. This was definately a heart-racing experience. She was happy when the horse slowed...and let out a sigh of relief, opening her eyes. Now there were so many things to see...and so many opportunities to find Julius...she'd have to make sure that she did everything she could to thank Cairn for his help...

((Oooo, I think that a Zeria ish crushing ;) ))

Jake walked along towards the group. He was unsurprised when Hera dropped from the trees next to him.

The Allsie addressed his grandson tenderly. "I just finished a small scouting; there are bandits around, so we have to be careful."

Jake nodded. "Alright." He turned around to look at Jonad before moving forward. "For what it's worth, yeah, try to spare as many people as you can."

Jake turned and walked to the group. He and Hera stopped a few feet away from the main body, but listened closely as the one named Cairn spoke. "Oh and William, Jake and Hera. If you all wish to come with us, I would be grateful, at least until we reach the royal city. Besides, I heard that one of the lords of the kingdom was hosting some kind of tournament. I am sure you will all be quite interested...."

Both Hera and Jake looked up at this. "A tournament," Jake muttered. He gave his grandfather a serious look; this was just the kind of thing that Sukani would have organized, even if he used his lackeys to do it. Find out the strength of the people on-planet, and then figure out whether it was worth conquering or destroying. Either way, it was a win-win situation.

"Well," Jake said, "it would be a good opportunity to test our powers; we haven't had a good match in a long time."

Hera nodded, playing along with Jake's bravado. "Yes, it seems like something we should check out." Inwardly, Hera was beaming; Jake was learning how to take on the role of a leader: to take action when necessary and keep a good face on while giving out information but withholding the essentials when needed. Jake knew that they shouldn't involve the people of this planet directly.

Suddenly, Jake closed his eyes and sat down on the ground hard. He grabbed his head, grunting in pain. "Agh!"

Hera crouched. "I feel it too..." He turned to Cairn. "We'd better get out of here. Jake and I just sensed a score of lives end. It wasn't pleasant either; they just...they were there one minute, and gone the next." He shook his head. "Something's not right." With a leap, he took to the skies.

Jake followed suit, quickly leaping after his grandfather. He stopped, hovering in mid-air, and turned to look at Cairn. "We'll keep an eye out up here, you guys keep going." Jake put on a burst of speed, and shot after his grandfather.

The two stopped about forty feet in the air. Jake was looking around, but it was Hera who found the first clue. He pointed up the path in the forest, his look grave at the ominous sight.

Walking along was a black-robed person. Neither Jake nor Hera could see his face, for it was shrouded in a hood, but his strength was perfectly clear by the ominous sight behind him.

Laying in the dirt and foliage was a score of bandits, all slain. Hera could not tell what had done the deed from this high up, but he was sure that the black-robe had something to do with this.

Without any further prompting, Jake and Hera shot down towards the camp. Jake stopped in front of Julius, a cloud of dust blowing up as he landed. He whirled around to face Julius, and said urgently, "Get out of here, now! There's something coming; we're not sure what it is, but it took out an entire group of bandits, without using very much energy." Jake shot up along the road, jumping onto a tree while Hera took to the skies. Jake looked back urgently. "Come on, let's go!"

Jonad gave off a confused look as he saw the blue furred creature.
He acted friendly towards them.
Judging by Jakes behavior, it seemed like the blue furred creature was an elder, or guardian of sort.
But before Jonad could do anything, they both took to the sky.

Still sorta confused, Jonad walked towards the horse.
He mounted the steed, and waited for Arthvader, so that himself, arthvader and Gade could go to meet up with Cairn.

Wylliam watched in confusion as the red-head walked away. He stood there thinking for a few moments before an understanding grin spread over his face.

"Ah, such a considerate girl," he said, "She must understand the pains of being renowned; always being asked to relive one's triumphs; always having people dig into your personal life." Wylliam sighed and shook his head, still smiling. "What may have been misconstrued as rudeness was actually her attempt to spare me her natural curiosity at meeting someone as great as I."

When he finished stroking his ego, he noticed that some people in the main camp had already left, including the red-head. He turned to the brown haired youth. "I apologize, but we'll have to speak later."

Wylliam bowed and dashed to the camp in time to see Jake and Hera rush down from the air and warn of some unknown threat. Just as quickly as they had come, they rushed from the camp. Believing Jake's purpose was to confront the threat, Wylliam chased after him, oblivious to his actual objective.

"Hey, wait up. I'm almost ready." Arthvader said as he was preparing his stuff. a few minutes later. His stuff all packed up, Arthvader got on top of his horse. 'We should head towards the city as soon as possible.' "Alright. Let's get going." Arthvader then started off ahead of Jonad and Gade.

As Cain started to walk towards the fallen Raven, he then held his blade in both hands, holding the flat of the blade near his face. he then rose the blade slightly upwards until the whole blade was high above Cain's head. He then slowly let it fall till the tip of the blade was facing Raven, he then charged forward with gravitic force and rammed the blade towards the weakened Raven. As a loud boom could be heard echoing around the town dust filled the area Cain had charged to. As the dust cleared Raven has held off the power... Somehow, his blade had accurately held the blow back by the very tip, friction quickly followed as the swords heated up and Raven, being a demon of ice had to jump back first. He then knew he had little time left where he could fight... Gathering all the power he had left into his right fist, which bore a demon blade. It then encased itself in 3cm thick ice, he then slashed at Cain's head which Cain could not stop, the power was too much even for him. Due to the force of the blow Cain was knocked into the wall behind him and bore a small cut to his upper torso diagonally.

Damian had begun to arouse himself, his body temperature restored he slowly rose from the bed he was laying in and walked towards the window, hi staff and bag were next to it so he quickly picked them up and gazed outside... It didn't take long to notice Raven and another demon fighting outside. Slightly shocked he quickly regained his composure and quickly ran from his room and down the wooden stairs, he was barred from here by the owner of the inn who told him to "Stay inside, it is too dangerous to leave currently, those demons out there... I wouldn't risk my life to leave". Damian placed his hand on the man's left shoulder before barging past him, almost without expression. As he pushed open the door he walked towards Raven and raised his staff-head towards the demon. "Leave this place now, I'm warning you, stay and you will suffer the concequences!" Raven looked towards Damian, he seemed stronger than before... Different somehow. Stepping back to try and cover his wounds with ice power Damian stepped forward and him and the demon began circling one another. "You... You're Damian aren't you?" The demon asked, he seemed more relaxed, almost like he was about to enjoy himself. "So what if I am? And how do you know my name?" Damian asked, he had attatched a ruby to the head of his staff at this stage and was now preparing to attack. "Lets say we're close... And I'd advise against fighting me as you are, lets just say I'm a special type of demon... Maybe you'll have more fun with him". As the demon said this he was then engulfed by a pillar of light green light and seemed to be reverting into a more human state... Perhaps he was like Raven? A demon vessel?

As Damian looked on at this transformation he remained serious and raised his staff to cover his torso in a diagonal. The demon then showed a somewhat more human form, he still had a lot of hair from his demonic form, along his face, torso and his arms and legs. He was mainly covered in this grey hair and his eyes too were grey and he still bore that huge sword. He then grew angry and held his sword in two hands in front of him, in a lowered position now he returned his circling with Damian.

Cairn stopped by the main gate and got of his horse. A man wearing a heavy full body plate amour who was posted by the gate approached Cairn. The knight stopped Cairn, asking him for his identity. Cairn told him the truth, and though he was not quite welcomed, the guard agreed to let him pass, after all, this was also Cairn's home. It seems that the guard turned out to be one of Cairn's old knights, one who fought beside him when the frontier was lost at the hands of the imperial army. After being granted entry, instead of getting back on his horse, Cairn chose to lead the horse to the stables, pulling it by the reins. As he arrived to the stables, Cairn left his horse at the care of an old man who also turned out to be the owner of the "Silver Stallion" Inn. "Zeria, I am leaving. We will meet later at the Silver Stallion Inn. I hope you have luck finding any information about Julius." That being said, Cairn left his horse at the stables with Zeria and walked towards the main street, one that was connected to the central plaza.

Hejaloki was in the central plaza.

"I warn you again of coming darkness. Darkness that was that will be the end of us all. You must forgive past problems to meet it and defeat it. Heed my warning, I say again."

Hejaloki yelled this though out the central plaza.

He looks out around the plaza and starts walking down the main street...

As he approached the center of the plaza, Cairn could not avoid hearing the man's warnings, as if somehow he knew that some truth was spoken by this man. Inclined to seek more information concerning these "apocalyptic" prophesies, Cairn headed towards towards the man, walking through the very crowded streets. He found him near the large fountain placed on the very center of the plaza. The fountain was almost 6 feet wide, circle shaped, with a secondary fountain in the middle, also circularly shaped. There was a tall statue of a cavalier, a ferocious armored knight riding on horseback on a thunderous stallion, the statue resemblances a brave warrior brandishing his sword with dignity. As Cairn approached the man foretelling these prophesies, he felt some sort of strange aura, as if he felt that this man knew more than he wanted us to believe. Determined to interrogate this mysterious subject, Cairn introduced himself formally.

"My name is Sir Cairn Crey Rosencrant Valthere, former knight in head of the Royal Guard. Now I am a mercenary in the service of this noble kingdom. I could not avoid listening to your statements while I was walking through the plaza. I want to ask you; what is this "darkness"? Can it be defeated? Is it a person or it is an unknown force influencing others? Tell me."

"I know who you are."

Hejaloki studied the man looking at him.

Hejaloki looked up and then back at the man. His eyes flashed with holy power for a split second. The man will notice the flash.

"The darkness was once a friend of the mighty angel Hejaloki. It is said Hejaloki knows of the secret of defeating the darkness. He hasnt been seen in ages. The darkness can come in many forms."

Hejaloki then shook his head and said, "Of your last concern I do not know of his coming and when it will come."

This was a lie it was coming and coming soon...

Noticing the strange glint in the man's eyes, it was obvious to presume he was some sort of mage, or something more, Cairn could not tell for sure. Having heard of the darkness, what it was and who, according to legends, knows how to defeat it, Cairn newly felt himself entangled in a more developed web of mysteries, all linking, for sure, to the same darkness that is poisoning the land. "I see, so the darkness is coming....it is all happening just like the ancient prophecy has foretold...I am sure it will arrive soon, if it's not among us already." Cairn stated firmly, basing himself on what he knew about ancient lore. Cairn turned his eyes to the ground as he brought his right hand to his jaw, leaning his chin against his fist. He remained thoughtful for a few minutes, trying to understand what he had been told, until sudden the name of "Julius" came to his mind. Not sure if this man could tell Julius' whereabouts, Cairn thought not prudent to ask just yet, instead he decided to stay on the topic concerning this "dark being". After much thought, Cairn lowered his right hand and brought his eyes back to the strange man, and he noticed the small glint he had noticed in the man's eyes before was nowhere to be seen now. "I see, perhaps we can't foretell for sure the outcome of this dilemma, for all we can see are the signs, and the prologue of these prophesies. The destinies are not written on stone, we make our own destiny."
