The Wild Cards

I'm glad you guys like my ideas. =) I'll try working on them soon so we can test them out.

As for a name for me...can I be: 'The Kendragon'?

I've always been fond of that nickname. xD

Welcome to the club, prof :monster: Glad to have ye.

...I'm sure the ego will love it :neomon:

Of Kendra's ideas, 2-4 are what grab a lot of my attention. They're really attractive, especially the Group Battles. Group Battles generally are very difficult due to god-modding issues, but I see a way around them: if we were to combine that with my idea.

Basically, as long as you know your teammate's characters, you can post for your team. It's a little difficult to pull off, but it seems like it has A LOT of potential. It's almost impossible to pull Group Battles off without god-modding; for a successful battle, you need to be able to coordinate your character's. It's particularly entertaining to team up two polar characters, who have very little in common and are viable to split immediatement :neomon:

But...Kendragon :gasp:

...Has an entertaining ring to it :neomon: I'm to remain "The Dragonic Allsie" :monsmash: 'Tis my trademark.

Well, I think everyone has decided on a name for me, no? Looks like I am henceforth "Mr. Ego." Remember it well!

Alrightys, if we're gonna test out this tag-team match, we need to figure out some teams. Any suggestions?

Prof13, I would love to team up with you for this idea, but I want to start from the ground up. Make a pair of characters that work off each other!

Like a healer and a warrior, something that could inspire others to really experiment and see what they can come up with!

Hmmm... OK! Leave the characters to me! Give me some time and I'll have two battle ready brawlers that will synch more beautifully than a string quartet! Anything specific you'd like for your character?

But...but...who shall be my teammate :gasp:

Kendra! We now need your RP Bio more than evar :gasp:

The RP Stadium has now been built. Check the Hall of Fame (there's also a link in my sig) for the overview and to see the first set of matchups. Remember, if you aren't participating, you're going to be judging.

So, go and check it out and see what you think!

Woohoo, it looks great Ness, EXCELLENT WORK!

You got my name backwards but thats ok! (supposed to be pretty-boy ugly)

I hope everyone will be able to participate. Ness you know what your doing for the actual battles? Or should we be working on a list to randomize? I'd ask Kendra but she's got a TON on her plate!

Yeah, I put the adjective in front because I thought it sounded better (took some creative liberties haha). If you really want it changed back, I will, but it sounds better this way IMO.

And yeah, I've got the battles under control. I just want to make sure that everyone will be able to compete/judge. Hopefully they can...

Ooookay, Sorry for the late arrival (Internet problems). First of all, I want to say that it's great to be a part of the team =D and I hope to be working with everyone to better the RPing around here.

Now for some of my comments on the Ideas posted already:

Ness Iron Chef idea:

I REALLY love this idea. It'll bring RPing into a more mainstream and competitive area on the forum. People will work HARD to make sure they improve and get better at RPing. This can lead to quite a bit of overall improvement. Some things I think we MIGHT be able to add onto Ness's idea:

1- There should be SOME benefit to winning said battles. Like, If someone is a Steel RPer, I think they should have Something MORE than just bragging rights. This could be... for example a small graphic underneath their avatar that shows that they're a current Steel RPer (we can maybe contact the Admins/Mods and ask them if they can add this). Beyond that, on winning, one should have their REP increase, and on loosing, maybe decrease. The reason I think there should be SOME loss is so people think straight and actually don't just keep challening everyone for the heck of it. When there's something to gain with a chance of losing something as well, I think we'll find some rather interesting battles.

2- I think there should be TWO levels. Steel RPer and the Platinum RPer. Now how do we differenciate between the two? My third idea explains that. But basically, the Platinum RPer will be the STRONGER or Superior one. Hence, all JUDGING will be in his/her hands (we should have a maximum of 3 per month).

3- Besides just general battles, we should have a Tourney once every 2 months or so (the time duration can be decided), which basically is for selecting the Platinum RPers. The 1st three by ranking, will become the Platinum RPers, and therefore till the next Tournament, they'll have the responsibility and benefits of being able to judge all the other battles (the general ones).

On Kendras Ideas: (I don't need to really even emphasize on how good these are XD)

Here's what I have to add to that though:

1- Like FG said before me, it'd be nice if we could integrate Kendra's 2nd idea with Ness's idea. Well that's where I think the tournament thing would come in handy. See The tournament can have different types of rounds. One of those rounds can be the Randomized battle, One can be the Group Battles + Battle Royale and one of the final ones can be the handicap battle. So basically, These ideas would really TEST who is worthy of judgin the forum's RPing e.t.c.

2- I'm not so keen on the AIM one, so I don't think we should integrate that with the mainstream RPing. However, i recognise how fun this is for a lot of people (you need to have a lot of TIME) so... I suggest we have a seperate forum for said RPs. But see... there was this forum I used to go to which did this sorta RP, and there were some downsides...

Since a lot of the RPing is actually done on IMing programs, collecting all that data in one place is hard. So ussually an RP would have it's OWN forum. So yeah... we'd need a REALLY nice admin to make an RP for that. Plus, we'd also need to restrict the number of IM RPs to some REALLY good ones. It's a good idea, but at the moment, I don't think it's exactly possible to implement. we SHOULD consider this for the future.

Now... if this post wasn't long enough, some of MY ideas:

Game Masters:
This is done to an extent in some RPs, but generally I really want to IMPROVE the story flow in RPs. See... what my basic idea is that, about 3 RPers will be the Game Masters. These three will have characters from the main core story, and while they won't have major roles in the actual RPing, or participate for that matter, what they WILL do is sort of like Godmodding, but to an extent.

The GMs will be tasked with keeping the story going in flow. So like... A GM who actually thinks up the story for the RP, will even think up some sceanarios. And I know this is getting Confusing, so I'll give an example:

>Suppose we have an FF8 RP. Now, I'm a GM, so my character will be "Headmaster Cid".

Now I will announce that the students are to have an exam in the Training centre. Said students will go, and have said exam in training centre. What the exam itself will be? The other two GMs may tell said students. So basically, The characters will be PUT into a situation, and how they go from there... is their choice. <

Of course, herding them here and there will get annoying. So we'll have "break" periods in the RP, where characters can just mingle around and generally get to know each other.

I know that this idea is QUITE hard to implement, but I'm really all for CREATING a more story based experience for RPers. And you know... for me, creating the STORY would be a really really fun thing to do.

RPG Implementation:
I think the Forum RPG would be awesome for using in battles. I know this sorta would defeat the purpose of battle RPing, but still... I think it makes the whole experience more fun. Of course, I also realize that this idea is another one of those "can't really be done right now". Because for this we'd actually have to open the RPG, and customize it. Customize the weapons, prices, add news ones... e.t.c

BUT... I think that IF we could somehow Mesh the RPG with RPing, it would contribute a lot to the experience.

.....

That is all for now XD Sorry if I got carried away XD

Heck no Setsuken! Your enthusiasm is welcomed!

I would like to make some comment on the things your brought up, because several of the points were really excellent!

1. The 'loss of reputation', I really love the utilization of the reputation system, and the fact that someone could 'lose rep' for losing is great! It would definitely motivate posters to post better quality posts, and it would deter people from making challenges willy nilly.

I think in the 'Steel RPer's' early inception we should focus on getting people involved and reserve this idea for when it becomes much bigger. My fear is that, without it having a following, people won't want to risk their rep. These are only my thoughts, as the good may well outweigh the bad in this and thus the other high cards may vote it in.

2. I could definitely see multiple levels for this, which would give us additional opportunities for multiple weekly competitions. I'd want to start slowly, see the response we get and, should the people like it enough, implement this idea as well. But gradually. It may be simplicity that keeps this thing active.

3. I would love to see small badges/graphics under the names to make the title coveted. I want people to be inspired and I think prizes like this really empower people!

This would tie in really well with the Platinum RPers portion of your ideas, when a platinum is defeated then the member should get a cool gfx!

4. I REALLY LIKE the tournament idea. A tourney held every two months for the coveted 'platinum spot' would be really exciting. This totally has my vote and I will give any support necessary to help this thing along.

It also prevents favoritism and lets all members 'vote' where only the best man remains standing.

Question : can a current Platinum member compete in the tourney to select the next platinum or would they have to wait 2 months before reapplying?

5. Game Masters : I would love it if story based RPers could get together to form perfect story ideas! I wish they could have their own forum, their own special name everything. I really think GMs would offer so many great benefits for RPers.

I like that the GMs will help herd people, and having 3 in each story would give people the chance to keep things moving when one GM loses motivation/needs a break.

I also like the idea of 'herding people along for a short while then a 'break' period'. Thats wonderful and I really hope the Story-based RPers explore the option.

As for the RPG being combined with the RP section, I highly support the concept (maybe not as the 'focus' but at least as an option). Unfortunately I'm not a programmer and if anyone can figure out a way to make it work, good luck! I would love to bring some RPG members into the RP section. (So long as they can handle the work load XD)

Thats it from me, yet another great additon eh gang?

Bump*

I'd like to Welcome Stitch to the crew in the Eight spot!

Also, I'm really glad for everyone working so hard to help fix the forum! Good work gang!

Apologies for the absence. Visiting relatives doesn't always allow for wi-fi :neomon:

Wow, all of these sound REALLY good, guys! I feel so...basic :gasp:

Anywho, welcome to the guild, mates, and have fun with us! Contribute, experiment, and just have the time of your lives! (As much as the internet allows, of course :wacky: ).

Awesome siggy! I've already put into my signature :monster:

And hurrah, welcome to the club, Kendra! Now...I think in this case, the Queen is not the King's Queen, but the Ace's Queen :wacky: Odd job, eh :neomon:

Welcome to the guild, Mistah J! Now, go do some flips and tricks for me, would you :wacky:

Give me five dollah first. ;) And I'm here and ready to partcipate. Sorry I haven't posted yet. xD I'm ready to go now.

I would encourage all Wild Cards, excluding the High Cards (we're already kind of involved =P) to get involved with the RP Stadium. The more excitement we can generate, the more outsiders will get involved, and the bigger this thing can get!

Pardon my enthusiasm, it's nice to see an idea start getting off the ground!

Thanks to everyone who's helped so much already, and the rest of you, go sign up! =P

Hey everyone, say welcome to our new number Seven Schrödinger!

And Ness, does this mean we all can sign up to challenge each other? I thought we were the challenge-ee, not the challenger.

I know I've already said it, but from looking at the challenge you set up I really think you've done a great job with the Battle of the Masters stadium!

I meant to direct my call for challenges to those who aren't Masters already (that is to say, 10s and below)...apologies for the confusion.

Fantastic idea Ness, that oughta raise the popularity of the Wild Cards,

With all these ideas, I'm gonna struggle to come up with a decent idea to call my own :wacky: it's a working progress lol.

Here's an idea for us:

100%-attribute RPs.

In essence, this is a story that excludes all but a specific type of RPing. This can be exclusive to character types, plotline ideas, point of view, magic element/attribute, whatever, as long as the RP itself focuses on this aspect.

It's particularly challenging, actually. It requires that you exclude almost all other styles of RPing so as to 'perfect' this one style. I think it's something we could try.

Point-of-View RPs/RPBs

A storyline of battle in which the characters must use a single point of view. In most RPs, we assume that people will use the Third-Person Limited perspective, but imagine an RP that uses purely Third-Person Omniscient, or one that is exclusively First-Person. The former is more of a story than an RP, whereas the latter is extremely difficult to pull off; you cannot write anything other than what your character sees, and it's often a challenge to incorporate ONLY that.

The Third-Person Omniscient idea ties in with a previous suggestion of mine, involving a sort of Story RP with few boundaries. Needless to say, god-modding will be abundant in this type of RP, but maybe that's not such a bad thing.

I thought I responded to this!!!!

Jon, I don't think I fully understand the 100% attribute thing but it highly intrigues me. Care to elaborate?

And the second idea is just gangbusters. Catcher in the Rye to the max!

But I really want to see your 'god-modding' RP!

It is becoming an increasing concern that we further explore all instances of God-modding/power-playing.

My thoughts include cataloging ever type of God-modding/power-playing possible, from the blatant mistakes to the passive (status effects). I want to know if there is a way of creating an 'approval sheet' for such works.

I'm thinking that plausibility should go hand in hand with this, perhaps a rotation of one status affect per RPBer...

Any thoughts?

@ Ness : The Battle of the Masters went well last round, whats up with the next round? It got very positive feedback! Any other wild opinions on the Battle of the masters?

@ Jon : Can we sticky the last Battle of the Masters battle for use as an example? Or at least unarchive it long enough for those that may wish to join can get an idea of what it would be like.
