In my own opinion guys, I think this game has ruined kingdom hearts. The whole organization thing is just annoying and i hate the way we have to play Birth by Sleep and all the other games on different consoles. Its so annoying, i just thought this game was so confusing. I loved Kingdom Hearts 1 but i dont think this stood up to it too good. Il have to replay soon as i havent played kh 2 since it was released. Does anyone agree?

:ed:

I don't agree at all to be honest. I absolutely loved it and after playing Chain Of Memories and discovering the Organisation we got to learn ever more about them. We get to see the characters as they are slightly older and the storyline is just as good.

I will agree that having all the games on different consoles is annoying but it doesn't require that you HAVE to play them

Personally i thought KH2 was a let down aswell. Compared to the original it didnt live up to expectations. The stroyline wasnt too appealing and although the battle system was slightly improved, training forms etc was a bore and someone i could never be bothered doing again. The worlds werent as fun either. Im not really sure what it was but KH2 just didnt cut it for me tbh.

I don't agree at all either. o_O this game was better than KH1 in a lot of things, story, gameplay, reaction commands. It was WAY better IMO. Also this game completed CoM storyline, I don't know how it did confuse you but you probably didn't understand what they were talking about or wasn't reading and just kept pressing. <_<

Games on different consoles is annoying >_> but like Scooby said you don't have to play them,

If they just stuck to one console they wouldn't get as much money <_< It's a marketing thing too.

KH2 probably confused you because you hadn't played CoM. I haven't played CoM either but I caught on to the story pretty well o_O Sora was just as confused as the player.
I loved KH2 tbh, it wasn't a letdown to me at all. The graphics were better, so was the battle system .. I even liked the story. And even if it WAS a bit of a letdown I wouldn't say it 'ruined the series'.

(When they gave Kairi a Keyblade it came pretty damn close though :wacky:)

I don't think it really ruined Kingdom Hearts but it definitely pointed it in a different direction. I haven't played CoM yet but KH II's plot was radically different from KH I's (which seemed pretty simple by comparison).

The first KH game had a 'simple charm' to it. It was a game about a kid trying to find his friends and it had a relatively generic structure to it. The second game essentially had the same basic idea of friendship, but it seemed like there were too many distractions from this basic idea. These distractions made the game seem more sloppy than the original and it lost the 'simple charm' that the original KH possessed.

But even though KH II's plot seemed sloppy in comparison to the first KH. I don't think it ruined the series. If anything it refreshed the series. Sora can't keep chasing his friends forever. In order to keep the series moving, new things needed to be introduced (Organisation XIII, Nobodies etc..). In my opinion, KH II gave the series new ideas to work with, ideas which will (hopefully) be beneficial for the series.

Edit: Wow I just got ninja'd 4 times. That is fucking ridiculous.

I haven't played Chain of Memories or any of the other KH games other than the main games (KH and KH2), and I was able to pick up and understand the storyline of KH2, though it wouldn't be the complete and full picture.

I admit the begining and a lot of the organisation stuff is confusing at first, but it is all explained within the course of the game and you are told what was going on etc.

As for ruining Kingdom Hearts, nah I don't think it did. I still really enjoyed KH, and like the others have said the battle system was a lot better. I loved all the different reaction commands, even if it was just pressing triangle. It was visually impressive and felt really good, etc.

I wouldn't say the storyline was worse than the first really either. Once it started revealing what was going on it was quite good(I admit the begining is a shock when you are suddenly playing Roxas and Sora is in some sort of weird sleep that isn't explained I don't think for most of the game).

About the worlds, I'm gonna have to agree that a lot of them weren't as enjoyable as the first game... POTC wasn't as fun as it should have been, NBC wasn't as enjoyable as it was in KH1 when it was centred more around Halloween Town, Atlantica was.... Finny fun... Urk.... *dies*

But there were some good worlds too. Lion King land was epic... I loved roaming around as Sora-Lion! I found the Tron world pretty fun too. Mulan was another awesome one. So on the whole I wasn't too dissapointed.

One aspect I do miss though is all the special movies you learned in KH1... Like gliding and stuff.. All that was gone in KH2 which I found irritating as I loved gliding from place to place in KH1... I used to just glide off from the Tarzan treehouse and glide into the jungle from the top of the boat... It was epic. With that gone I was heartbroken. :sad2:

I'll agree that I didn't think that KHII was as good as KH, I just preferred more difficulty, better storyline and battle system in KH. However, I can't say KHII ruined the series, it was CoM that started the whole organisation thing anyway, not KHII. But you don't have to play previous games to understand KHII as it tells you throughout anyway, especially at the beginning, it certainly helps to have played previous games in the series, but isn't that the case in most series?

You don't need to play CoM to understand the story for KH2. You just have to pay attention and follow along with things. Much like other games from Square (FF7 instantly comes to mind), we're placed in the mind sets of the protagonists (first Roxas, then Sora, etc...), and know what they know. Things unravel as you go along, and you're gonna have to pay attention. I played COM, but did so what felt like ages before playing KH2, didn't complete it (at the time), and didn't even remember a lot of what happened from it - but I was still able to pick up on things from Kh2.

Anyway, I generally enjoyed aspects of the storyline that were introduced in KH2. I liked The Organization, and the different personalities that made up the members. Their motives were predictable, but how it all ties together and how their existence came about was exciting. I mean, it opened up so many doors, and added so much more complexity to the game. I was recently on KHwiki, just reminding myself of it all, and I enjoyed recollecting all of the different aspects. It went from, what I thought to be a bit of a one-track kind of game, to one with more layers.

It was also great to see what happened to Riku, and discover more about he and Mickey's journey (it was awesome how they paralleled Sora's relationship with D & G, IMO).

As for the gameplay, The Command Counters made things fun. Let's face it, there's only so many times that you can tape the same square combination before it gets a bit repetitive. So it was great to have the Command Counters open up for more combinations. On the downside, it made things incredibly more easy to what's already an already easy game. But it was fun and a bit more broad, nevertheless.

On the other hand, I have to admit that I didn't indulge in things like "forms" and so forth. To be honest, it was all kind of bland to me. There are some games in which I'd love to explore as much of the gameplay mechanics as I can, because they're exciting to tap into. I didn't really get that from some of the different things introduced in KH. This was especially the case given the feeling that you would never really need them.

As for the worlds, let's just say they had their ups and downs. Worlds like Beast's Castle were dull to me, and I thought it was a joy to be over and done with them. Other worlds like Mulan, were rollercoasters in themselves. While Mulan's world was generally dull to me, it became extremely exciting when the army attacked. I was never a fan of Tron prior to this, but this game made me appreciate it, and I thought it fun. Sadly, Agrabah missed the mark for me this time, as I didn't get the feel of "the title" from playing it - instead, I felt like I was just playing in some desert. The Coliseum and underworld were exciting, and Hollow Bastion, despite being the "hub" world of this game, was really strong. All of the "introduced" worlds were very powerful to me. All in all, I had mixed feelings about them (I'm rushing at this point, as I've got to go, but I think the drift is caught).

So all in all, I thought Kh2 was a solid game. I wouldn't say it ruined the series at all. It expanded it - which, I guess, will always be seen as a ruin for someone who liked the initial story and such of it all.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I found KH2 to be a great story with wonderful characters.

KH1 was a great game that was all but stand alone, so I guess I can understand people getting pissy having to play more than one game to understand the story, but that doesn't bug me (aside from the multi-platform thing >_>). Rather, I love how the story developed to be something more than what it initially was. I mean, Ansem! O.O

The characters and their interactions as well had further development beyond the first game which I loved as well. The new characters in KH2 were pretty kewl, and I loved the ones in CoM as well ^^

i dont agree, i think this game was just great, but i so think that they are bringing the others out on other consols i was going to buy a playstation 3 for the kingdom hearts but now i dunno if i should if its all going to go all wrong and set me back

Honestly? I couldn't disagree more. I loved every second of KHII and thought it was a step in the direction of what I like in the franchise. That may sound self-centered, and it is. I'll be honest and say I don't care what other people think of the game I'm playing, so long as it suits me. That sounds harsh, but why would I care if the game appealed to other people? It's what I want, when I'm playing it. Every gamer is probably the same, even if they don't think about it. So When it comes to me, I loved the game.

I actually thought Kingdom Hearts II was an improvement over the first game. We had maps, finally! And I thought the controls just felt smoother. Forms were fun. It did add a lot of new elements to the plot that weren't really explained in full (can we see more about the Organization instead of just seeing them sit in really tall chairs AND more Roxas, please?), but I liked them a lot. I was going to say treat this like the Compilation of FF7. The other games add some extras, but you won't be too out of the loop by just sticking to the main series. Just like the opening movie of KH2 explains all you really need to know about Chain of Memories, there has to be some kind of transition from KH2 in KH3, even if Birth by Sleep and 358/2 Days are meant to do most of the transitioning for us.

Nah, that's not harsh, that's realistic. No point in playing a game you don't like. The only time I really care about what other people think about a game is when I think a series needs more sales from people who wouldn't normally buy it in order to survive, but I don't think Kingdom Hearts is dying anytime soon.

Kingdom Hearts II was an epic game. Everything was better, as Cecily said, the movement felt smoother and the acting was a lot better.

Although, I don't know why, I prefer the first game over the second, but I still love II a lot. I actually just lost my completed II and I game and had to restart them. The chips inside of the memory cards snapped in half. *tears*

I came to Kingdom Hearts through II and adore it.

It took a little bit of thinking to figure out what was going on, since I had to piece the backstory together along with Roxas at the start of the game, but for me, that actually made it more enjoyable. Also, like many Square-Enix games, there's a lot of mystery the first time you play the game, a lot of foreshadowing and things that only make sense later -- making it more fun to play the game a second time and say, "Aha, now I see!"

I thought KHII handled the mystery and piecing-together-what's-going-on aspect particularly well, of all the games I've played. It's a storytelling technique I use and enjoy.

And the gameplay was fun. There were a few patchy bits here and there, but on the whole, a great game, and it brought a lot of new people INTO the KH franchise, so that can't be bad.

I, too, hate it when games are scattered across different consoles, but I understand the commercial reasons for it.

I haven't played KHI, but I have read the manga so I should know the whole plot.

In the term of plot, I have to admit KHI was great while KHII felt a little forced. KHII hardly had any great plot moments. Most of the time you just help people and it has nothing to do with anything.
After playing it, I started to be sceptical about the series.
While I see the potential of it, I afraid they may just making random things up in order to make another games.

On the other hand, I see KHI's plot was really amazing.
And I am sure that would have become a big KH fan if the first game I would have played was KHI (or at least if I would have read the manga before playing KHII).

That's my only real problem with KH2. It seemed like I had to play for so long between plot revelations. Every time an Organization scene came up I was so excited because I didn't know when I would see another one.

^ yeah, my game was the best ever! Thank god though, a few days before I coped my Ultimate X game to a new memory card. I was gonna do it for KH games, but the day I checked back, it said memory corrupt. I looked at it carefully and it was broken. My brothers got to it >.> every time something breaks of mine, its their fault. Really.

Every time an Organization scene came up I was so excited because I didn't know when I would see another one.

I have to agree. From the beginning, I was thinking I would hardly meet them. Which actually happened lol
Well, at least we got some scenes and battles :P

I personally think this game bettered the original in almost evey way. It was a little less difficult, the camera was made better, the characters looked less idiotic, the battles were better, the worlds were better, the game was longer, the story had more depth, Roxas was introduced (Yeah that's right, I love Roxas), reaction commands were added, and many more things! This game truly was the best in the series, and deserves it's place of second on my All-Time Greatest games.

well if KH1 stopped at where it was, wouldnt it be wierd like at the ending.
Oh u beat Ansem, now u and Sora and Kiara are drifting apart, the king and riku is missing, and how did ansem became a bad guy?

IMO KH2 was awesome.
i really cant wait til i get Birth By Sleep, 358/2 days and KH3.
