vBulletin 4.1.12 Feedback & Suggestions

which skin makes it easier to read text? because the white is headache inducing.

XSLT styling :hmmm: I have to do that at work every now and again. Thought XML was going out of style :sad3:

Making a skin for vB4 is very different from making one for vB3, sadly it's not really something that could be done by you guys unless you have the specific knowledge of how to code an XML style for a vB4 skin =(

Headers/Banners etc are a different story though and I believe there are plans afoot regarding that already.

I know, it depends on whether or not it's going to be a fixed or fluid skin, but I do have some coding knowledge if that helps any. I know it won't be anywhere near as simple as previous vb3 skins and you need to actually have access to the ACP to fiddle with it, but given the opportunity, I'd love to help out in any way possible.

You guys are doing a great job, none the less, having the forums back up same day? Spectacular.

Also, the userbar at the very bottom of the screen with notifications? AWESOME. :megusta:

No more 90 day name changes? :CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

I recommend trying purpletest for now, It's one I knocked up quickly for folks like me who prefer a black skin over a bright one :P I know there are plans to get a better black/dark skin in soon too.

ight, thanks for the advice. :)

question tho, why did the site change exactly? was it just out of date, or just hard to manage in the old format?

EDIT: This purple skin is much better!

Out of date basically. This gives us a bunch of new features, and access to many more. In addition new features are being developed/added to this version all the time, very few were being actively developed for the old version.

I see. I can accept that justification. maybe i'll get used to this format. i will say i really liked the old one, but i also understand things need to be overhauled from time to time.

I don't know if I'm the only one that is having this problem, but when I click on the Ban Log, it takes me instead to the Smiley Log. Just wanted to make sure that this was pointed out, since I know people love reading the funny comments the bots get in the ban log. :hmmm:

Aw, first of - many thanks, guys. Forum update looks great, and a lot less old. We belong now! The forum width is rather enormous I noticed, the other one seemed less wide. I don't care about that though, looks great.

Secondly ... The purple skin. :8F:
@DragonByte Tech, @Belazor,

* I'd like to re-address the issue that you cannot have customized settings in the control panel anymore, as far as colours and fonts go. If this could be fixed, that'd be great. :gonk: You see it's set - but doesn't work. That's all I've noticed so far, along from what the others have already said.

* This is more of a question rather than tossing in a bug. Will SOTW be shown at the bottom of the screen again? Or... is this not compatible?

Definitely will notify if I come across more.

As said, if GFX artists are needed - 'holla' etc, etc. :lew:

Oh great job with the update! I am honestly still a bit lost. Using the purple skin currently. Though I'm sure everyone will get used to the new skin later on.

Oh and I notice there's auto-save for posting posts now. Thanks!

*explores new forum further*

This actually just reminded me that it also doesn't show status updates at the bottom anymore either. Which I don't care about but might as well point out for people that do.

The area outlined in white shows up twice on PurpleTest for some reason. Though I'd point that out. Aside from some parts of the purple being a bit awkward (some of the SB buttons) it's alright. Would prefer a different color like gray.

The update looks nice ill have a proper look around later... but soooo far soooo good... great jobs guys :)

For the most part, I think the update is welcome and nicely done.

As said already, the problems at the minute are cosmetic, but a bit annoying. Highlighting what I've just written is already a pain :gasp: Unless I make a spelling mistake I have no idea where I got to in the reply box!

Good work though ^_^

Charlie, you can pick a style on the bottom-left. :) We're still working with the skin; I'm creating a dark grey/black theme, but the style manager is driving me nuts...

less poop skin pl0x! :monster:

i'd personally prefer thick borders and some minimizing of the post area that is just complete excess.

Well Aside from the white boxes in profiles making it hard to read, is there a way to View a users previous names?

On this forum people change names like clothing so I tend to not know who's who after awhile xD;
Go to someone's profile, for instance: http://www.finalfantasyforums.net/members/16447-Chanpanion-Cube?tab=usernamehistory

Unfortunately, this will only log changes made under very specific circumstances, since the old modification that let you change usernames did not correctly insert a log entry into the "profile change history" table.

There is no way to recover that history.

Fixed :)

It's now back to 90 days / unlimited changes like intended.

It's not compatible. I'll try porting it, but there's no guarantees.

That's due to the Postbit Tabs and the old information being left in the postbit as well. There's no point in fixing this just now since there's no way of telling whether that skin will stick around when we get some real ones :)

My only real problem is that different font colours are more/less readable on the different skins, so someone using one skin would be able to read (eg) the white text on the black skin, but not on the white skin.

Otherwise, I actually like the change. Think I might be changing to the dark skin once it's made, but this white one is still refreshing :)

Should be fixed.

Note to @Mitsuki and @Shu - you should use usergroup manager to set the time-limits to what you want for each usergroup. I believe they are defaulted to 21days at the moment.

Thanks, I went ahead and set staff back to 30 and Vets back to 60 as well.
