Final fantasy always adds a new twist in each installment. Sometimes (Final fantasy XIII) they would rewrite the formula. Some are welcomed, some arent.

What elements in a final fantasy game would you welcome in the future?
Here are the elements i would welcome

*more action-based oriented battles along with turn base. (Maybe limit break could just be Action based while the monsters are stuck with atb style)

*Night and Day feature and making it essential to gameplay (similar to majora's mask)

*Different characters we never get to see in a final fantasy (such as the main protagonist being a Mother, an anti-hero)

*A balanced ammount if free roam so that it doesnt affect the story.

*A rated M Final fantasy. (Sometimes the dialogue of the characters feel like their holding back and sometimes it looks like their could be more gorey battles)

*ability to change outfits. (Not asking for a large ammount but just a couple few to keep me wanting to obtain them)

I agree mostly with you. I suppose the outfits could be like Star Ocean 4, whereas each one could have 4 costumes. Also, there should be like a multiplayer option as to some co-op option.
I would like to see more humour, I constantly see characters like Lightning drag out the game and make ot boring whereas Cloud used to be a funny guy or somewhat. There should also be an ability to create your own special skills and spells. I have more wishes but at the moment, I'm at a blank.

I actually expect the whole create new attack considering Crisis Core amd Kingdom hearts added similar features.

i never played crisis core. But Kingdom hearts i suppose added that element. but it could be more slightly advanced, such as adding your own effects and enhancements. Not so much as to represent an elder scroll mind you...

More realism would be good. Maybe a villain who doesn't seem to spend copious amounts of time tending to his/her hair. Imagine what Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Kuja or Seymour could have accomplished had they not cared so much about their looks.

Same goes for the playable characters, too.

hehe true, but then that would take away the Japanese fantasy effect. Though it wouldn't hurt just to make one like that. I cant imagine over-dramatic villains without over-dramatic hairstyles however. Like Ultimecia's Mortal Kombat effect, everything is a 'k'. Kome to me, karry this or else I shall kut your paycheck' being an example of her drama...

Yeah, but there was a day when all that was okay. Nowadays, FF games seem solely more focused on being superficial as opposed to telling a good story or providing good gameplay. Final Fantasy seems to be going more in a direction of "Let's give cosplayers something else to dress up as in the next anime convention!"

For me, it wasn't the character's looks that roped me in. It was the story and the gameplay. Normal-looking characters wouldn't make it any less "Final Fantasy", and I think that alone would be more of a nice refresher than the stuff they're doing now.

I think story started getting superficial around 12. But it hit hard in 13

Sounds about right.

But yeah... I can't really think of any 'new' features I would like to see, but more a return of older features. Like having an overworld map to explore, or being able to pilot your own airship. Before PS2, Final Fantasy games had a much wider sense of freedom, and I would like to see that come back. They almost pulled that sense off with FF12. I mean, you had a HUGE world to explore in that game, full of very interesting locations that made you want to spend hours exploring.

They're perfectly capable of making something wonderful of these games. I just don't understand why they don't do it.

Square Enix are more interested in appealing to the Japanese market with FF. As such, you get these "Bishie" type male characters who essentially look like girls.

Look at XII. Basch was supposed to be the protagonist, but the decided to add in Vaan to attract the Japanese players.

Anyway, one element that I'd like to see is the edit out of clunky and awkward dialogue for voice acting.

Seriously, among the other things that caused me to dislike XIII, the voice acting made me cringe at times.

There's other nicpicking to be had, but I'm too lazy for it.

I think something should be done to the battle system. The problem I have with the traditional JRPG battle system is that it's not very engaging most of the time. Normal battles usually go something like this, "Keep clicking attack until the enemy's dead. Heal when needed." They don't feel very pressing, like it's an actual life or death battle. Battles are just an annoyance to get past so you can continue with the story. Take XIII for example. You can get through most situations just using auto-battle or auto-attack. Maybe do paradigm shift every now and then. Boring. In XII? With the Gambit system, it's possible to have all your battles run automatically. What's the point in battling, then?

I think Final Fantasy games could use a battle system similar to the GBA Mario RPGs. In those games you have to press buttons at the right moment to dodge or counter the enemy's attacks. You also have to time your attack right to get criticals or to even make an attack successful. That will at least keep people more engaged in what's happening in battle.

I think they could also take steps to make the world more interesting. In XIII, most areas were just long corridors. True, the environments themselves were very beautiful, but it was also a bit saddening that you couldn't just run off and explore them. In XII, the world was VERY big and it took a while getting from place to place, but the environment just felt empty. I mean, other than monsters everywhere. The thing I like about games like Skyrim is that the world is big, AND if you just run off in some random direction you end up running into something interesting. It would be more interesting if there were more extra areas and interesting side quests. Most side quests in FF games are "kill that really badass monster!"

Lastly, I think they should try a different type of setting than that have so far in the series. It's either future-fantasy or medieval-fantasy. Maybe they could try something like steampunk-fantasy?

I would also welcome FPS as long as its secondary and not primary gameplay (like dirge of cerberus)

Now that would be awesome. Although, VI, VII and IX did seem very steampunk-influenced. But it would be so cool if they took that further and made something that you would see in 'Film Noir'.

Square do seem to be trying to make some rather serious storylines lately, the least they can do is make something good of that, and I think it would be great if they make something a little bit more mature. Not gore or anything, but in terms of story. Their stories generally do have much of the elements to make a mature storyline, so they could easilly make it more 'dark' and feel more real and still put... Let's say a Pegi 12 rating on it.

Really? Yeah, come to think of it, the *what am I doing playing as some side-character?* sensation did cross my mind...

I haven't played 13 so, I have no idea if they've already tried these:

I would be interested in seeing older or maybe even younger main characters as opposed to all this teenager sludge (no offense). Or maybe even a choose how your main character looks thing...? They did have that feature in White Knight Chronicles, but that character is always the sidekick and has virtually nothing to do with the story, which I didn't like.

A deviation from the magic systems would be nice, too. I'm kinda sick of waiting to level up from fire to fira to firaga and so forth, cuz I already know what's coming.

I also like the 'monsters leveling up with you' thing from FF tactics, so you're never stuck fighting weaklings. *really hate that*

I'll think of more stuff later :)

YEah i would love if the change of the armors and weapons of the chars are show in battle.
and i would like a ff that challenge us gamers if more tactics
