What was the last book you bought?

The Crippled God, by Steven Erikson.

This is the tenth and final book in the Malazan Book of the Fallen (well, the main series anyway) and I am really, REALLY looking forward to reading it. I'm re-reading the sixth book in the series at the moment, so when I eventually do get around to it (probably some time in May, given the length of these books...) I won't miss out on things, or have no idea who certain characters are. I expect an epic conclusion, given the title, and how things have been going for the entire series...

I've recently bought several books which could be filed under Classics, Sci-Fi, or Poetry in any given bookstore. The classics include Paradise Lost and the Canterbury Tales. The Sci-Fi books include three books by Philip K. Dick - whose stories inspired several movies such as Blade Runner, Minority Report, Total Recall, and Scanner Darkly - including, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Ubik, and Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said. Under Poetry are books which could be otherwise be described as Greek epic poetry or tragedy: The Odyssey and a book containing three of Sophocles' tragedies under the Oedipus Cycle.

I almost forgot, but I also bought Lolita by Vladmir Nobokov. :hmmm:

Today, I realized that it's easier to buy classic novels at vintage books stores rather than going to somewhere like Barns and Noble. I got an old, but good copy of The Canterbury Tales for only $2.50.

In His Majesty's Service by Naomi Novik

It's got the first 3 alternative history novels in one, in her famous Temeraire series. Very interesting, I'd definitely recommend it. It's basically Napoleonic Europe -- but with dragons serving as the first Air Force, long before planes were made. There's no magic, there's no steampunk, nothing of the sort. It's just historical Europe with dragons.

And it's brilliantly done, I might add. Definitely one to pick up and read at least once.

Alice in Wonderland, again, because I want to own this book in so many different styles and bindings, I have an obsession I think, its cute and small and hard covered in red velvet, its also got Through the looking glass included as well. Its a great book even in the new film did no justice.

The possessed by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
I finished The Master and Margarita not very long ago, which I enjoyed quite a lot. I was think about that and decided I wanted to read something Russian again, I didn't fancy the idiot or crime and punishment, so I got the possessed.

The last two books I bought were:

A Game of Thrones: George R.R. Martin - first book in the series A Song of Ice and Fire. Based in Medieval times about a kingdom at war. Very good book so far.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell - Susanna Clarke. I don't know much about this book... It was recommended to me by...@Böb Dylän. Apparently it is set In Old England where magic has mostly died out or something. Anyway, it sounded interesting when explained so I decided to give it a go. Now to wait for it to arrive in the mail :)

I bought four different books recently:

The Aeneid of Virgil: I love these kinds of epic poems.

Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories: Volume 1
: - Sir Arther Conan Doyle. I don't know much about Sherlock Holmes, honestly, but I've been interested in reading these stories for a while.

The War of the Worlds: - H.G. Wells. The only other book I read by H.G. Wells was a Wrinkle in Time back in middle school. This one's only two hundred pages long, so I'll be able to read the whole thing in a day.

Red Branch: - Morgan Llywelyn. This is a story about the life of the great Celtic hero, Cu Chulainn. I love stories revolving around mythology, and the stories of Cu Chulainn's deeds are well known to me.

Well technically I just ordered the fourth and fifth books in The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, and the first three I also bought recently were tremendous. The first book just sets up some general concepts, the second book introduces more main characters and gets the story properly set up. Then the third book, sweet mother of divine Jesus it's absolutely stellar.

@Thane Krios
That is one of my favorite books. And I'm not a huge reader.

I recently bought Water for Elephants.
Did I like it?
:brooding:

The Angel of Darkness by Caleb Carr
A sequel to The Alienist, which was an excellent example of psychological crime fiction, and this is following in the same vein of interesting historical fiction that dwells into the early years of psychology when the world was in complete denial that people could do horrible things like murder their children without being insane.

The Official Dictionary of Sarcasm
Probably the most hilarious book I've bought in the last 5 years. Honest to goodness amusing cynicism and sarcasm.

Badass: The Birth of a Legend and Badass: A Relentless Onslaught of the Toughest Warlords, Vikings, Samurai, Pirates, Gunfighters, and Military Commanders to Ever Live
Both by Ben Thompson. I bought these as a break between the 'serious' books I read and I will never, ever regret it. Second most hilarious books I've bought in the last 5 years, right behind the Dictionary of Sarcasm. It's one thing to list off historical and fictional badasses, and it's completely another to write short presentations of them like Thompson. The guy clearly loves his subject matter (and he's technically a historian XD).

the acoustic guitar bible by eric roche :wacky:

its got all sorts of exercises and music theory in it and its very useful.

/book

I bought six today haha.

I bought three Artemis Fowl books. Number 3, 4 and 5.

The second book in the Fallen series: Torment.

The Purple Emperor
and The Cursed Ones.

I never got into the Artemis Fowl books when I first tried to read them, but I think I tried to read them when I was still a little too young and immature and wouldn't have been able to appreciate them. I might be able to do so now. =)

I still need to get the first two books though as the book store we went to was just a clearance store. >.<

Apparently there's 8 all together as well, so I still need to get 5 more in total.

But I'm happy with what I bought today! All of them are fantasy like books. <3

The last book that I have bought was a novel by Tess Gerritsen, Vanish. I haven't read it yet since I got a lot of stuff to finish.

Arden Shakespeare's version of Hamlet.

I've been meaning to read this play for MONTHS, and this one seemed like a great copy. There are pages of notes and a lengthy 'Introduction,' which I plan to read. :)

I bought the third book in the Fallen Series "Passion."

I bought my friend and myself both a copy as it was 2 for $20 on sale.

I wanted to get Fallen as well but of course they had all sold out. So this means I still can not start reading any of the books until I get the first sadly. >.<

I can't wait for the fourth (also the last) book "Rapture" to come out next year!

Matter by Ian M Banks. The opening reminded me simultaneously of Portal 2's Wheatley and Bau-Dur's device in Kotor 2, so I enjoyed that. It's gonna be a while before I read it properly though... I'm feeling more drawn towards books on the school's reading lists like Birdsong, Wise Children, To Kill a Mockingbird and Wuthering Heights... and Shakespeare!

The last two I bought I actually got for christmas from the fiance <3
Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella & the first Sookie novel (one of the ones True Blood is based on). Can't wait to read them... Just starting mini shopaholic now.

I just bought The Last Apprentice: The Spook's Nightmare. Was a series I got into a few years back, then fell behind. I'm looking to catch up on them, considering there are 9 books now...with more planned, and I stopped buying them after number 4. Just got this one last Saturday.
