FFVIII, you either loved it or you hated it. I loved it, but I’m probably a little bias because it was the first FF that I played in the series and very rarely have I seen anyone with a natural opinion.

So, I'd just like to know why so many FFFan’s hated this game?

I loved it. I dont find too many people that hate...

The only reason I can think of why people might hate this game was because of the storyline; love. I think its safe to say that the story being told was this this boy who doesnt want anyone in his life because they will leave him, and then he ends up falling in love.

Most people would rather prefer a small handful of people taking down an empire, but then you see the FFVIII fanboys blasphamizing FFXIII (yes, I'll admit that I'm one of them).

Love or war, you decide what you'd rather have.

i loved it, sure it had a few downsides ie, junctioning, draw system but i think the storyline was gripping and the gameplay was awesome, its still one of those classics

FFVIII? Pfft! Loved and still love the game! Hell there is even this RPG Board I spent lots of times at.

To me, FFVIII is the second best game in the series (the first being FFVII).

I have to break the trend here.

I utterly completly and totally DESPISE FFVIII - its so abnormally different that its terrible.

I hate the characters - with the exception of rinoa - they basically have the same 2 minutes of backstory - Grew up in an orphanage, lost there memory. and there all either Hyperactive or emo.

Emo people - Squall, Quistis, Irvine
Hyper people - Rinoa Zell Selphie

The draw system should die - it is an insult to make magic and item o_0 i hate the fact that you have to use magic to junction your stats - which means you can become absurdly powerful very early on. the limit breaks are horribly random. and i hate the fact that you have to Re-design weapons to upgrade them, I hate....

Well i basically hate the whole damn game......

except Rinoa.....

No offense

You don't become absurdly powerful early on. Don't be ridiculous. As you level up, so the do the monsters. Wow, erm, what's wrong with upgrading? You would want to be stuck with the same design all the time? Lol. I liked how it needed specific materials to get a weapon. Didn't make it so piss easy then to get everything. You didn't have to use the Junction System to complete the game either. So if you hated it THAT much, complete the game without it.

Anyway this game is awesome. Better then VII in terms of gameplay - like making crappy useless materia combos was any fun. It also bettered VII in terms of sidequests. Agreed, the characters are the most boring bunch I've ever met, Rinoa being the worst out of the whole FF series to me. I could slap her in the face seriously. Her and her stupid dog combining attacks. Hahaha. Really silly. The game has redeeming characters such as Ward, Laguna, Kiros, Fujin, Raijin.

Storyline - VIII a bit more. It didn't need sequels to explain things, while VII apparently had to. However, VIII had a disastrous soppy love storyline. If there was ever any future FF to contain such a dreary love theme, I'd sit and go "bunch of crap <3"

My second favourite FF game of all time, FF XII dethroned it recently >_<.

Anyone calling the characters boring and have teenage friends are calling their own friends boring too btw, cause the whole bunch act like typical teenagers, even Irvine!

And yes they shared the same orphanage, that's how Elune was able to connect all of them together, duh, it's all explained.

I do believe FF VIII needs a sequel or a short film or whatever to tie some of the loose ends that it has.

Actually loved the Love Story, it was as cringe worthy as real love is supposed to be and that made it more realistic for the two to get involved instead of a dramatic Romeo and Juliet adventure.

Not all love stories are cringe worthy. Stop reading those cheap novels you >.> XD Realistic love stories don't work like this. XD

What the hell? Yeah right, sure these people act like real teenagers. I don't think so bud. Never have I had a friend as annoying as any of this lot ever since I was a teenager. They try and act like your average teenager, but fail. You can't expect us to like them if their personalities and background story aren't what we like :P

Loose ends? I fail to see em - if they made a sequel, it'd be pointless. Pretty much like AC. Things would be added which never would have made appearance before.

I didn't mean love stories as in novels. I meant how the average guy and girl act when they are in love with each other, or infatuated. I'm sorry but it just not pretty to look at XD

And surely you must have had atleast a friend that was being emo, one that was hyper active. And you must have seem guys that always hit on girls on those really stupid and annoying ways that just make you cringe as well? XD

I loved the game, but it is true that a lot of people that love all the others hate this one. The reason I think that is has already been mentioned, it is just different that most the others.

And while it is true that the characters basically all had the same backstory, it was just that which brought them together. And their past wasn't what was interesting about them, but how each of them turned out and fit together.

I love this game so much. My boyfriend is currently playing it on the PC and so far, hes only really liking the FMVs!

It was my first FF and will always remain my favourite all time FF and game. I just love everything about it. Although drawing can be a pain in the butt, but thats just 1 thing agaisnt an entire game ^^

yeah this game was amazing and still is i loved playing it and still love playing but VII is still the best :P

I definately don't hate this game, since it was my very first FF game and got me hooked on the series.

I thought it was pretty good, maybe the storyline wasn't quite up to par with VII, but the gameplay was good.

I thought the storyline could have been better, it got kind of sloppy near the end, but all in all it was a great game.

why do FF fans hate this game?

To tell you the truth, I probably wouldnt have loved it if it wasnt for the Card game, it was new and unique, alot better than the card game from ff9 at least to me....the game was great though to me and had new challenges that no final fantasy before it had. I think some hard core final fantasy gamers hated it just because it was the same ol otherwise.....same summons, same battles that were not in real time, you could leave the game for half an hour and nothing would happen...just no change for the real player. But even though i was a real player who played ff 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 and x-2 i really loved it...i bet you they will never disappoint me no matter how bad they make the game.(maybe, lol:P )

Erm...if you just put down the controller in the middle of a battle for half an our, expect to be dead when you come back...the monsters keep attacking. :)

you could leave the game for half an hour and nothing would happen...just no change for the real player.

Yeah, I guess I don't quite get that one myself. If in battle, you'd be dead in a short amount of time because all the enemies level up in unison with you. If you mean just standing in place on the world map, yeah you could stand there for three, even six hours on up if you wanted to *shrugs* without anything happening either Lol...

I'm glad you liked the game and I loved Triple Triad myself. :D

I really don't like this game at all. I don't like the characters, the battle system, most of the plot, and even the card game.

I understand they were supposed to be teenagers, and to act somewhat how a real teenager would act under those situations. So, my honest answer to that is, I don't care. Real teenagers are annoying, and they were all just as annoying or more so. I can say this, cause...well, I was teenager...........and I don't think I'm the only one, and I know for a fact I was annoying. Squall and Rinoa were too annoying on their own, I'm not gonna even go into anyone else.

The battle system was ...something. I don't care if the monsters leveled up with you, so you 'didn't have to level up', that didn't make junctioning and have to continually draw magic any less irritating. I got so fed up after a while I just drew all I could, junctioned it to whatever needed to be junctioined with the most powerful magic available, and then did my my best to use little to no magic at all cause I didn't find it 'fun' or 'enjoyable' to go and have to replenish my magic to get my stats back up.

The card game was...well, just pretty much how I felt about the entire game, irritating. I got the hang of it after a while, but it just wasn't fun.

And one incident in particular in this game made me hate it all the more. I mean, there are stupid plot twists in all games, or ones that just don't make sense, or ones that would be impossible. And they try their best to explain why it happened, or try to make it seem plausible but.........come on......I really can't even come up with anything else other than come on.

Love the game, the characters, and the whole storyline. The reason being is that it had romance in it. :P What can I say? I'm a romantic at heart. ^_^

And I read A LOT of steamy romance novels. ;)

Anywaaaay, I love the battle system too. It was different and unique, and although drawing could be such a pain in the ass, I enjoyed it overall. Yes, even the junctioning. ;) I understand it can be complex and hard to get at first, but if you really appreciate and try to understand how something works, then you'll learn to love it eventually.

Characters...well I'm sure you all know how much I love Squall. ^_^ And I thought Rinoa was okay. She's pretty. I didn't really find her character annoying that much. What I found annoying was that she was too much a damsel in distress. I like a heroine who could fend for herself. The other characters were alright as well. I don't really have anything againsts them.
