Why do people want manly men in final fantasy?

I get what you're saying here. While I was trying out different MMORPGs, my friend kept trying to get me into World of Warcraft. I wanted to play it 'cause at least she would be around to help me in the game, but I was totally turned off by the character design. -_- The only characters that looked cool were the Blood Elves. After that, I decided to just stick with FFXI 'cause the character design is amazing imo.

I don't really like "manly men," but I think my definition of manly men may be a bit extreme. For instance, a character with a terribly distracting and unrealistic muscular body who is just gruff, rough, && without much of a personality. Unfortunately, that's how I stereotypically define "manly men." With that said, I don't see much of that in FF games. Barret may have tons of muscles, but he also had a personality && he wasn't a hollow vessel of destruction, lol.

I'm not so sure I would consider Cloud, Snow, Noel, Vincent, etc. as "manly men" 'cause they just don't exude that sorta aura to me. Plus, they have pretty boy faces imo, lol. Maybe Auron and Cid could be "manly men" 'cause of their demeanor && gruffness (although they're not overly muscular, so it's a bit of a contradiction from what I stated earlier, lol...)

Interesting topic! xD

But what about the humans and the Worgen! :gasp:

Cloud, Snow, Noel, and Vincent (Well, questionably Vincent. He's in the body of a 27 year old for christ sakes) are fairly young, but can still be considered "manly." Cloud carries around a sword that's twice his size.

Mehh, but personality-wise, Cloud never really acted in a particularly manly way. I mean, "Let's mosey!" xD && then the whole cross-dressing bit... Cloud wouldn't make such a cute girl if he were mega manly. I prefer the idea of Cloud as a good-looking, somewhat average guy. Not so manly, but definitely not girly.

So you believe he'd make a cute girl? :wacky:

But seriously, though. I'd choose a Sasquatch's twin over an effeminate pansy, though, I used to be a big Zidane fangirl.

Who makes the cutest girl in this picture? xD
I wish Cloud had some make-up on, but I think Vincent is the most natural-looking girl here. xD;

Token uglies :lew:

You do realize they can only do so many character designs in video games :hmmm: If all of the guys looked like Cloud then the world of Final Fantasy would be pretty boring. While Sazh, Cid, Auron, and Snow (*shudder* :damon:) weren't the most aesthetically pleasing to me they did serve their purposes story-wise. I don't have to want to *ahem* with every person in these games to appreciate them or their character qualiites :lew: ...Looks shouldn't be everything :wacky:

IF it came down to aesthetically pleasing in a video game, Noctis is pretty fab. He's lurvely :cali: Huge muscles on video game guys tend to be overdone. For me, I like a leaner looking guy with a nice face I guess.

Oh, why people want manly men in video games???

Simple answer: Because, us MANLY MEN need some reassurance that we're wanted. :awesome:

I think it has a lot to do with Japanese culture and what is attractive over there. Being buff in the west is seen as very attractive to a lot of people and many men aspire to this. In Japan I think it's different, attractive seems to be much slimmer, more stylish and clean cut. Look at their pop and their magazines and they don't really promote buff manly guys as being the most attractive. Not at all like in the west at least.

Edit: to say that I don't know how people can say that Jecht, Sazh or Snow are ugly :( I think they're all pretty hot. Jecht especially. Yum.

lol

you like little boys who look like women, and others like masculine features. Everyone has their preferences, so who gives a shit?

But most of them are legal (cloud is 21 dunno how old sephiroth is) so they aren't little boys. Justin bieber is legal as well.

But you're 17... Making you still a minor.

Back on topic, I guess, as mentioned before, looking a bit effeminate is the current culture among males not only in Japan, but in Korea as well (Have you seen the Kpop bands lately?) This may contribute to why so many Western countries view them as "strange" or just flat out weird.

uhm....what the heck does bishies mean? Other than that, i think several characters were eye candy. I mean do we even get to see feminine men being the center of attention in these games

A hot guy with a pretty face (no disgusting facial hair ).

Disgusting facial hair? :gasp: How can you say that?! I don't understand...a little stuble often makes a cute guy even cuter! I don't understand you're Sepheroth crush, but I would class Sepheroth as manly, so what if he had long hair? He was manly...and Jecht was hot! Snow and Sazh too, though there is no way Sazh is manlier than Sepheroth.

Snow barely had anything, you couldn'y even see it. But by XIII-2 he looked ridiculous. Sahz looked fine, but not HOT. Jecht..idk...i think he loooks ok but just not my type.

Facial Hair sometimes gets in their way of their appearance. And makes them look older, and the general public like younger characters. personally, i dont see the big deal off of big muscular characters. they look like jerks.

How does anyone like a character such as Kratos from God of War? He constantly screams and likes the Hulk 24/7.
