I dont get why pple think ffVII is so good I personally thought it wasnt that great and i just thought id get your views on this subject

I voted it was "ok." Granted, story was..somewhat kick ass, but the characters, after a long time, did nothing for me. Gameplay was boring, not much in the way of interesting sidequests.

how can anyone ever think that final fantasy VII is anything but brilliance, in depth powerfull storyline along with some funky characters like cloud vincent and red XIII, the graphics are quite good ...even by todays standard (though they were breathtaking at the time)

It's almost become a stereotype to diss FF7 or praise it ina Godly fashion. i for one thought the game was good. Storyline was original...i do agree taht the gameplay was a bit blah but c'mon it was made in 97 and the elements were very similar to the earlier ones.

I voted Awesome ...

Okay, the graphics are dated and I find that the controls are frustrating at times.
But, there's a deep and well plotted story, that I didn't fully understand the first time I played (Giving it replay value).
There are plenty of side-quests and hidden items/materia etc to find.
And there's the Gold Saucer!

For replay value, FFVII beats the rest for me.

Zaden, is it okay that you tell us your views on FFVII and what you didn't like about it etc. Just to make the debate a little more interesting. ;)

There is an obvious trend when it comes to people and their opinion on FFVII -- age. People who are younger, lets say 19 and below (that is 10 and under at the time of FFVII), have different standards simply because as they grew up the first games they tried whould have been more advanced in many ways (graphics, sound, mechanics). Someone who tries FFVII now, for the first time, has a higher chance of disliking it because quite simply it is dated.

When ever these threads start I urge you to take a look at the ages.

I'm not claiming age supremecy but it stands to reason that as time goes on the standards change.

im 18 and love it though i didnt exactly play it right through first time... was too busy playing tekken and crash bandicoot!

The thing about FFVII is that it's timeless.
It will always be my favorite game of all time.
So I vote awesome.

Plotwise, it is superior.
But graphics, that could be improved.
And the character designs, I thought were flawless, I mean their personalities.

Yeah, to some people, you can't expect everyone to like them, despite how popular VII may be ^_^ . In depth powerful storyline - it lacked an ending which pretty much brought everything together. I never found anything to like in Cloud or Vincent. Hm, Vincent's past was more interesting I guess, but I never felt anything for much of them.

Now I think about it - this was one of the very FF's for me which had captivating sidequests. VI before had lots of stuff going for it. Even the Gold Saucer in VII wouldn't even last an hour in terms of entertainment. The games were cute, but too few and pretty tedious after a while.

lol feel i should say i do understand that others have their own opinions:P just think its legendary

I agree. Most people's first FF game is usually their favourite. (It was my first and loved it but I would say now that FFIX has grown on me a lot and prefer it now.)

I have read people's post using the graphics for an excuse comparing it to FFX which graphics wise is incomparable as they were both set in different eras.

Here is a quote in a Final Fantasy I thread.

i played it for about 5 minutes lol and i didn't like it because like im used to good graphics xD

This is how the older versions get over looked by a lot of people because it is completely different from FFVII and up. I have to admit, playing some of the older ones did take time for me to get into but once I did, you can realize that they are good. FFIV and VI are up there as my favourites now.

I'm not saying everyone is like that. Some people geniunely don't like FFVII for various reasons (I may not understand why but I will respect their opinions if their reasons are valid rather than "grafics sux0r roflcopter!!11".)

Good lord..playing it only for 5 minutes because the person was used to good graphics? There's more to a game then graphics..

Final Fantasy 7 was a complete graphical overhaul of the series.

It introduced FMV's which are now a as much a part of FF as mogs and chocobos. Plus it introduced alot of people to the FF universe.

Personally, I loved it. I thought the game's story was second to none, the characters excellent to the point where I couldn't choose who I want in a team and the materia system was an excellent way to determine stats(although most people probably overlook this and just threw on anything :) )

It was expansive, emotional and well thought out RPG with a classic battle system, beautiful artwork and truely interesting characters which I believe is the basis of any classic RPG.

It was oka. To me, it wasnt the best in the series, 8 gets that title for me. Its a good game, dont get me wrong, but the VII cows been milked too much now.

Well, the story may have been milked a crudload, but the game sure hasn't. What I try to do is I block out all the sequels ---- I don't really have any so I can't really know. Well, except for Advent Children.

And the game sucks 'cause of the graphics?
Come on now! :D

Well, FF7 wasn't a bad game. Had a good battle system, good storyline, great characters, but the graphic sucked even if it started on PS1. FF8 was a lot better in certain departments that is...

FFVII was miles better than VIII. I actually think IX is better than VIII too. FFVII is an amazing accomplishment. The storyline was very deep, epic, surprising and had a lot of drama that players would get sucked into. There was a strong deepness to the characters and they all had there history and developments that would help involve the player more with them.

Cloud: The whole, deep, SOLDIER persona mixup
Tifa: Being his childhood friend and guide to the truth
Barret: The whole history behind his grafted hand and the incident at his hometown.
Cait Sith: Discovered to be controlled by a Shinra employee

The list goes on. The gameplay was good, I loved turn-based battle. The graphics were obviously good at the time. I loved the music, it's very RPG; it's nice to listen to and they had a lot of great scores that I still listen to.
