Suggestion Why do we even have rep anymore?

I like the rep system. It reminds me of all the fun posts that were made in the past and fun notes I got from members who don't come here anymore :sad3:. I use the Rep system and the Like system. Usually I give rep to posts I think are truly amazing and I like any old post I agree with or think is hilarious but that's just my own little system. I don't see what's so "useless" about it. It's not hurting anyone and I tend to use it when I want to comment on a sig or the post itself so...yea. And who cares if you compare your worth to the amount of likes/rep you have? I'd say you've got some confidence issues to work on if you're hung up on not receiving rep for a few months. :hmmm:

I like using rep to promote good posts and signature work. Leave it alone. -_-

Quite frankly, the rep system either has to be reset or just gone entirely to bring some legitimacy back to the forum. And I have to totally disagree with you saying there's no reason for it not to be here because I have stated plenty of reasons — valid reasons at that — that explain that we are better off without rep.

I understand that you may find the system useless now, but to touch something that's been there for a few years (not to mention the sentimental value it may bring to some members for whatever reason) for the sake of rep numbers that shouldn't mean anything to anyone, is not a good idea. That's a big step for me to make, and I have no business tampering with the system due to the legitimacy that's already there -- the comments that people will leave each other, encouragement, advices, etc. Those should not be erased even if a few may think it serves no purpose. That's not the case for many members, so having both Rep+Like/Thanks system works just fine for both parties. One can simply ignore the rep system or like/thanks, or even both since I understand these things are not for everyone.

Man I bitched about this thing ages ago that the rep system was obsolete. A busted system. People started abusing the system since 2011. Clique's supporting eachother for comments that might or might not deserve rep. Contributing for the forum?

I agree thanks and like system is now the better system tbh. I would not care wether this system would be erased. Although I do like some of my older comments. Great.times.

I kind of see it as :

I like that post, it was pretty good- I like it

That post was fudging brilliant, I want to stand up to applaud you- I rep it.

Since FFF has been slowly Facebook-ised lately, I nearly forgot we still have the rep system. Having said that, I did just look back at my comments to find all the notes left over by members who sadly are no longer here with us today, with all the fun times of rep abuse we had back in the day. And it kind of pains me to realise that despite a number of condescending neg-reps I've given out (I've forgotten what I wrote in them now, wish I can actually see them), I've never received any in return. :sad3:

So yeah, pretty much what everyone else has said. The value of rep is in the comments left, not the numbers. Unless you're the sort of person who likes parading your exorbitantly high number around in an elitist fashion. Or the sort of person who is easily upset towards people with high numbers for whatever reason. There are pros and cons of both the rep and thanks system anyway, so I'm content with having both stay there.

See thats where it splits into 2 kinda people. Those who think a big number sittin there somewhere below theyre username is important. These people typically moan about the rep system and how its broken unfair blah blah and people rep theyre friends. I can definitely say ive repped more people im good friends with here than i have folks i dont know but il still like/rep whatever a good post.

The message is what i like but people seem to care about the number and think somehow that people who have high rep find it to be a boasting right to them. Lol..no.
For instance post wise Olivia makes better posts than me (probably) but my rep is higher. Why? Ive had my friends rep me leaving me stupid and funny messages. Doesnt make me a better poster and the number dont make me popular or cool. If i thought that id have some life evaluation processing to do (?????) See the thing about it is i can leave someone a comment that no one else can see bar mods. Why i like it.

In short. The people who find the number significant are the people who bitch about the whole thing.

I guess I started using FFF once the Thanks & Like system was released 'cause I never really knew there was a Rep system. ^^; I knew there was a such thing as Rep Power, but I thought it was dependent upon how many Thanks & Likes one received... && I could've sworn that my Rep Power increased every time I received a Thank or Like. xD;;

Well, I checked out my actual Rep && it's nice to see that people left me comments on specific things that I've posted! I guess if I were on the forums long enough && I received tons more Rep, these comments would have a sentimental value to me~ :3 (although I still think it's cool that I have some now!)

It's an arbitrary number that does NOTHING but inflate or deflate your online ego depending on which way the number goes. I'd recommend either ignoring it or using it to suit your preferences but it seems a) like a pointless thing to ask to be removed, since it's not harming anyone b) more effort would go in to its removal just for someone to go "oh I miss the rep button!"

I just think its bullshit thats all. It started cool where your rep was hard earned back in the days. You were lucky to to get even one mill. Then people started to rep eachother just to pass notes back and forth.

I remember Spawn putting so much work for the forum in keeping us updated for news and he hardly got rep.
Then I see kids just joined two months ago and already more rep than him.

You can easily distinguish the cliques by checking the rep. Its just misused. Shit the OP infact like the repsystem.

like cali said its about the message. You can like a post. But you can rep someone and tell them why you like it. The number doesnt mean naff all its about the comment.

The comments really are what make the Rep system. :lew: I love reading mine from time to time.

And Big Casino, I think I've repped you to death because I've spread the rep around quite a bit and I STILL cannot rep any of your posts. :rage: I wanted to on something a while back and I can't even remember the post or anything but I wanted to. :rage:

Out of curiosity i went to check and the last time i had rep from you was 16 members ago so its been a while. Hey i have a great idea il rep you back like a little circle and we can really piss off all the haters with these big high rep numbers. It cant fail.

What clique am I in ? Because I have no idea....:brow:

I feel like you might be a bit paranoid, just a tad. Not to sound mean or anything, but I don't think what you think is happening here, is happening here. Okay some of the rep points might go towards joke; but it's a fun gaming forum not a President debate...
:hmmm:

Meh, I like rep. Sometimes when I get bored I like to read older threads. I like to go back to a simpler time and reminisce on some of the shit I wrote a while ago that was apparently worth clicking the little rep button for. The comments are also nice.

lol I remember when Busta first hit 100 and everyone was amazed to see that he got a second rep box.

The turning point for rep was probably that survivor challenge where the winning team was the one which gained the most rep. Who gives a shit though, at the end of the day rep is just a number. If you think someone actually 'earned' rep, you can tell them that in the comments.

How long have you been active? You joined like in 2010 but hardly came online. Ppl from those cliques have accumulated high rep numbers so when those ppl rep you your rep increases more than it was in thebeginning.

How many comments have you?

Im talking about the people with over ten mil or even 20 mil. When those ppl rep others it will increase their rep significantly.

Anyways its about the comments in reference.with the posts. I admit I have some comments that would be classified as notes.

Number of comments -> rep Power number.

Call me what you want. Im laying out the facts.

Its just a number like Toni said so perhaps there could be a way to reset the rep Power and keep the comments?

Well im not the one who made this thread and he actually likes the rep system (OP) so I understand where he is coming from and what he is trying to say.

Thanks and like system pretty much replaced the rep system.

I wonder why Mits hasnt closed this thread yet.

I come online and post like everyday sometimes like every hour or something silly but I post here everyday....:thehell:

Mits ? Who's Mits ? Don't you mean Uncle Ulty ?

The fact that there's nearly 40 posts debating this is a testament to the fact that there's divided opinion. The people who like it use it and the people who don't like it don't care what happens to it, so I vote we leave everything alone.
