I did not actually spot the drug connection which is rather embarrassing, though their reasons for use are very different. I quite like the Holmes in the books, but I dislike his god like ability in every field.
It's basically the an extreme version of Watson and Holmes, I enjoyed the 221B reference immensely. I'm told in one episode Wilson gives House a hypothetical involving an Irene Adler
I find the black guy (foreman) kind of annoying so far, he seems to be really focussed on either "I came from a poor background" or "I am trying to be disconnected, but totally am not like house".
Wilson is actually quite good too, he and Cuddy are great foils to House
I think Hugh Laurie is as good as ever in it, though they have essentially just Americanised him slightly, I do not find myself caring even remotely about most of the cast however
I thought the opening of the second episode was very clever, where they talked about mobsters and the media was very clever. The whole psychiatrist angles is also quite well done
The Sopranos is quite good so far I think, though the punching sound effects are very cartoonish. It's much more theatrical then 'The Wire', if that makes sense. For example the way the table is suspended in darkness in the strip club
I would call it science-fiction over fantasy it's rather good and quite unique, I think you would enjoy it. If you can pick the first book up cheap I would recommend it, it's rather short too
As I gathered my errant emotions and guarded my heart, I would strike back with how pitchfork fellates The National excessively, even re-evaluating albums they panned originally
