Aerith or Aeris

Yeah but ever since Kingdom Hearts corrected her name, a whole bunch of obsessive fans started whining about what her name was. And the fact that alot of newer generations of gamers out there who've played KH and seen Advent Children haven't even played FF7 doesn't help matters either, since to them it's Aerith. It's mostly us oldfag gamers calling her Aeris because that's what she is to us, it was Aeris in the game so we're gonna call her Aeris damnit.

Plus it's just fun to call her Aeris to piss off all the people who bitch and moan about her name.

AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS :awesome:
:cheer: Yay oldfag gamers! I'm one also. I call her Aeris for the simple fact that I played ff7 original first and her new name just sounds like people have a gay lisp. I know it may be 'wrong' but at the same time I don't really care. It wasn't corrected until YEARS later. I don't see why people get mad when we call her Aeris. I don't get mad at people who call her Aerith. I think it's funny that this argument has gone on for so long. It's just a name! I think everyone should just appreciate the character for her personality for a change.

It just boils down to what people are accostomed to when one is first introduced to a charecter in a game. That name is what people will think of since its what they where first intorduced to. Im sure ,if such a person as this exists, if someone played a KH game without playing a FF game one persons Squall is another persons...Leon...ugh

I call her Aeris because it's the version she was called in my country and I've been calling her that for years. I felt it was strange when they started calling her 'Aerith', I don't find it pretty as Aeris, more like a lisp. I tend to say Aerith because I don't want to get stick from others saying "That's not her name! It's Aerith!" ;A;

I never played a FF game till after Kingdom Hearts.
So I have always called her Aerith and when I played Crisis Core
I kept calling her that.

I've called her Aerith because to me it's somehow more feminine and suiting of her than Aeris is. Sure, Aeris is the localization and what not, but that was changed when newer games came out. Heck, even given the chance to rename characters in the game, I changed it to Aerith.

I can't call her Aerith.. I can barely type it. It just sounds strange to me. I called her Aeris forever that I'm used to it regardless of whats canon. Not that it matters to me thought xD I mean come on, if they botched her name she can't be that great, right? I mean clearly they favored Tifa if they got her name correct from the get go. Which is fine with me ;)

Calm down Aeris/th fans! Only joking..

Or am I? >_>

I'm an oldfag gamer, but I knew in the original Japanese version she was called Aerith, so nonetheless when I played FF7 then, I renamed her Aerith. To me, Aerith sounds much better than Aeris and more feminine. It has a nicer touch and it's not really anyone's fault that they got used to Aeris because the U.S version of FF7 decided to mess up her name.

For me, ive always called her Aerith because they pronouce it that way In CC so it must be right...although Aeris makes sense in that there is no "th" sound in Japanese hmm

Sounds to me that is nothing more then a small change. I mean.. Aerith.. Aeris.. :/ "S" sounds are more prominent in Japanese then "th" sounds anyway. So that's probably all it is.

I've just called her Aeris because she was called that in the version of the game I played, so that makes sense to me.

I've always called her Aeris because that's how I first learnt it. I played the game before I even know they originally mucked up her name so I stuck with it.
I prefer Aeris to Aerith anyway, I always thought Aerith just sound like Aeris with a lisp.

I prefer Aeris. It seems more feminie and suits more then Aerith. Ive always said Aeris aswell. Aerith just doesnt seem right after using the other form all the time.

To me she will always be Aeris.

Well, I watched Advent Children and played Crisis Core before I ever played the original FFVII. So, I've gotten used to calling her Aerith. I've been told that the name Aeris was a translation error, so it only seems correct to call her Aerith now.

That's how I always heard her name and saw it come up in text as, so it's how I refer to her.

Your experiences...

I bought VII literally a week after it was released in N.A. For people like me it'll remain Aeris. Regardless of "translation" errors, the game was released for how many years before the "correction" was made? That's like your best friend going alright you've called me Steve for 10 years, how about Studds Mcsteel now? Sure that examples a lil' farfetced, maybe even downright stupid. Although for the people who grew up with VII/played it multiple times/obsessed over it its hard to change the way you know such a key character. "IF" it turned out Cloud's name had a translation error, I'm finding it hard to believe Cloud's new name (And yes I know its Kumo, translated to Cloud, I'm more than aware Clouds name IS correct) would become the standard. The point is you can't tell the people who refer to her as Aeris its wrong... Especially since it was a mistake on Squares part. Going "oh BY the way everyone in the gaming community, its actually Aerith, sorry it took so long" 10ish years later, doesn't constitute that people that know her as Aeris are "REALLY" wrong; Technically incorrect sure, but :holyshit: so what?

Aerith sounds like someone with brain damage and a lisp is saying Aeris. If you are from any english speaking domain (Most of North America etc.) and are/were a true fan of FFVII fropm the start then you should be stuck on Aeris.

If you were brought up for the good part of 10 years with everyone calling your brother Charlie would you just change over to "Ben" if someone (falsely) said it was a misstranslation? doubt it.

We were told Aeris from the best original source we had (most people don't import foreign games and can read them...)

On occasion I have typed or said Aerith because I know there are insane people out there who are overbearing when it comes to them thinking everyone should think their way.

EDIT: Ha I just read the post above mine had a similar "naming of someone you know" example

This is an extremely good point. While not everyone HAS to call her Aeris, and everyone should be free to know her as they know her (being some people jumped right into DOC or CC rather than FFVII) than they should feel free to do so. Although for others, like myself, we were given the NORTH AMERICAN version of this game. AS such we were privy to any "mistranslations" or any other fallacy that was presented in the N.A version rather than the Jap version.

We all know the Jap versions are usually better (in terms of the story, consistency, etc) but jumping down peoples throats saying Aeris is wrong is silly. Not all of us are bilingual and learned Japanese in our spare time :ohshit: as such our alternative was to play/learn/experience what the N.A version had to offer. And the fact is the Japanese branch of Square and the North American one are in constant contact, I find it "strange" it took ten some years to show the world there was a translation error. To each is own I guess. :ryan:
