Aerith or Aeris

Shes always been known as Aeris to me. I lik both spellings, but Ive been using Aeris more then the other one. I dont think it really matters does it?

I alternate between Aerith and Aeris depending on what game I play. Them being FFCC and FFVII. But I really dont see the big deal on people making such a big deal about her name and saying "Well its really this not that." "No you're wrong its this, not that." It's a damn video game. I call her both names. Why? Because I can and I prefer it that way.

I grew up with her as Aeris, but to me Aerith sounds better and is her actual name. I now use Aerith in FFVII and in conversation, it rolls off the tongue and it's what she will be called in the remake of VII :monster:

I call her Aerith mainly because 1. It sounds better in my opinion and 2. Its much easier to say

Quite right. I never really liked the sound of Aerith, it makes me feel like I'm Sylvester from Looney Tunes, walking around yelling THUFFERIN' THUCCOTASH. Aeris sounds like it corrected a faulty lisp...actually this picture I found describes pretty well how the name sounds to me:

ROFL!!!!

That was really funny. I gotta agree with Mariella though. I don't think it really matters, it's just what comes to mind and feels easier to say at the moment. ^^ 'Cause before it was stated her name was officially Aerith everyone called her Aeris. At least everyone I know and heard talk about. It's kinda like the Lockheart/Lockhart thing. =/

Well being in Aus' the name has always been Aeris in my version of the game. So it has always kind of stayed that way for me. :) I don't think it will change - just been callin' her that for so long. I like both names.. although I find Aeris easier to pronounce. >_>

I hate when people make a big deal outta it. It's not like Aeris/Aerith is gonna jump out of your Playstation and bitch slap you if you get her name wrong. Although that could be amusing.

OMG ROFL!! Dude that is sooo funny!

In response to the topic, I don't think the name of the person is important at all. Know only what she did and how. Aerith/is helped her world and rescued it. That is the only thing we need concern ourselves with.

Honestly, I used to refer to her as Aeris, mainly because that's how it was with the American version of the game. Then, I began calling her Aerith after realizing I felt more comfortable with the pronunciation.

Everyone has the same name i the japanese and english versions except aeris, who is actually aerith.

Aeris is a mistranslation and all characters were intended to have the same name, also it has been corrected since then. So i prefer to call her aerith.

I go with Aeris. I haven't played any of the other variations of FFVII, so I only know the original and thats how it was in the original. I think it was a bad idea to bestow on us the concept that it was mistranslated in the original and corrected later. It basically says that 1 of the names is right and ones wrong. It would have been much simpler if Square just stuck with the mistake version (if that's indeed what it is) to prevent confusion.

I'll go off topic slightly and say, what if they decided that Cloud's name was incorrectly translated? Would it make sense to change it for future variations? Then others will feel obligated to call him by his new name and try to forget the old name. That's why I just stick with the original, but that's just me.

If I remember correctly, FFVII was translated by a Sony team and not a Square team for the US release. Considering this, a translation error should definetely be remedied by the official source. Also, as has been said before, Aerith's name was derived from the English word Earth and then translated into Japanese.

Well I had always thought it was Aeris, but when i played Kingdom Hearts, they said Aeris, so me and my bro was like WTF. But i looked into it almost instantly and now i know that Aerith was her actual name.

Does it really matter? Aerith, Aeris, whatever. I tend to use both. If the people I'm talking to use Aeris, it's Aeris. If they're using Aerith, it's Aerith. When I'm talking about her, I use whichever comes to mind. It doesn't matter to me at all :)

Aeris, Aerith, Sephiroth's hunting trophy, it's all good. I usually just say Aeris.

I use 'Aerith'

Why? Well I was prone to calling her Aeris (When i was like 7) and after VII I never really went back to playing the game. The movie was introduced and she was present in KH and her name had been corrected to Aerith. Since I was 14 I've been using the name Aerith and have stuck to it since then.

but I don't have a problem with Aeris either ^^

What do you call her?

I call her Aeris, simply because that's her name in the version of the game in this country. So she's always been Aeris to me.

Also, those who call her Aerith, but have the game is parts of the world where she is "Aeris" why do you call her Aerith?

It's like calling "Goku" from DBZ "Son Gokuu" because that's his name in Japanese versions, yet never see anyone do that, so what's the difference?

(This isn't meant to be a rant or whatever, I'm just curious)

Aerith is her original Japanese name. But due to translation errors she often appears as Aeris.

In the European version of Final Fantasy VII her name is Aeris, so that is what I call her.

Only the western shipped original version of ff7 uses Aeris.

All of the other games use Aerith. AC uses Aerith (Credits say Aerith Gainsborough)

Even the original strategy guide, translated and released just after the original ff7 release says Aerith :P

I assume the "Aeris" part was a typo, a single mistake on a single line of code which denotes that characters default name, causing millions of people to be confused years later.

I called her Aerith after "altavistaing" it (no google back then XD) when the guide/game difference interested me.

I call her Aerith because that is just the way I got used to it when I first heard of her character. Granted though, I do know Her Real name is Aeris But it is only Aeris in the original VII. All the other games including kindom hearts. So that is why I still call her Aerith.

But hey, That does not mean all of you have to call her that as well.

Kindom Hearts is the first game I saw her in. I played VII a while ago.

I prefer Aeris. It is shorter and looks more simple both to write and to pronounce.
Guess it is quite annoying that such things happen because of translation mistakes.
While I usually prefer the original and correct things, I can't ignore the fact that "Aeris" was the name I saw first and I always believed it is the true spelling.

Personally, I think Aerith is annoying (hate words with "th" in the end) but I have no other choice but to live with it. Besides, I don't really care too much about this character anyway.
