I call her Aerith mainly because 1. It sounds better in my opinion and 2. Its much easier to say
Quite right. I never really liked the sound of Aerith, it makes me feel like I'm Sylvester from Looney Tunes, walking around yelling THUFFERIN' THUCCOTASH. Aeris sounds like it corrected a faulty lisp...actually this picture I found describes pretty well how the name sounds to me:

I go with Aeris. I haven't played any of the other variations of FFVII, so I only know the original and thats how it was in the original. I think it was a bad idea to bestow on us the concept that it was mistranslated in the original and corrected later. It basically says that 1 of the names is right and ones wrong. It would have been much simpler if Square just stuck with the mistake version (if that's indeed what it is) to prevent confusion.
I'll go off topic slightly and say, what if they decided that Cloud's name was incorrectly translated? Would it make sense to change it for future variations? Then others will feel obligated to call him by his new name and try to forget the old name. That's why I just stick with the original, but that's just me.
What do you call her?
I call her Aeris, simply because that's her name in the version of the game in this country. So she's always been Aeris to me.
Also, those who call her Aerith, but have the game is parts of the world where she is "Aeris" why do you call her Aerith?
It's like calling "Goku" from DBZ "Son Gokuu" because that's his name in Japanese versions, yet never see anyone do that, so what's the difference?
(This isn't meant to be a rant or whatever, I'm just curious)
