Aerith or Aeris

don't try to convince me to believe what I don't you colt followers.

I'm just use to aeris. I heard on the web people say its aerith and always wondered why. Never thought it was aerith I just thought different translation for other parts of the world. yeah they can call her aerith but in USA up until AC or CC it was indeed aeris.

I call her Aeris. Mainly because I had been calling her Aeris for half a decade before the revision was made, but also because I think that such a revision is rather stupid and pointless when the fans have called the character by another name for so long. I mean, it's not like her being called Aeris in the Engrish translation ever ruined anything for anyone.

Aeries, Aerith?

So which one of these is actually correct? I alway's thought it was Aeries since it's the default name on FF7. Where did Aerith come from? Jap version?

Hrmmm... We had a thread on this awhile back didn't we? The official translation for her name is in fact Aerith. Aeris was a translation error. Because in Japanese her name is pronounced "Aeri-su" (hence the translation error methinks) and in English it's been confirmed as "Aer-ith." Hope that clears it up.

edit: Found the thread. *threads merged*

I'm not so sure about this topic. I honestly really don't care what other countries call her. The WHOLE game they call Aeris...well... Aeris. So her name...to us Americans....is Aeris. >_> The end. I don't like looking too far into games for stuff that isn't there. And I don't like looking past games for information that doesn't matter to what the game actually was. >_>

If I recall, Aerith was the original intended name. It was basically just a mistake that the name "Aeris" even showed up.

Even so, it took me a while to make the transition from Aeris to Aerith since Aeris was what I first played the game as. Nowadays, for the sake of accuracy, I call her Aerith.

This. They translated the katakana spelling of her name, so エアリス (E A RI SU) was translated to Aeris. I guess the translator just wasn't aware the Japanese wanted a "th" sound at the end of her name and translated it literally.

Yeah but ever since Kingdom Hearts corrected her name, a whole bunch of obsessive fans started whining about what her name was. And the fact that alot of newer generations of gamers out there who've played KH and seen Advent Children haven't even played FF7 doesn't help matters either, since to them it's Aerith. It's mostly us oldfag gamers calling her Aeris because that's what she is to us, it was Aeris in the game so we're gonna call her Aeris damnit.

Plus it's just fun to call her Aeris to piss off all the people who bitch and moan about her name.

AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS AERIS :awesome:

I still call her Aeris, even knowing it's an translation error. ^^; I'm trying to get used to say and type her correct name, Aerith, but the name Aeris is already glued in my mind because of FFVII so I type it and say it automaticaly. XD

It has been brought to my attention that my post was quite offensive! For that I'm sorry! So I'm editing. :wacky:

And to make this not spam... Simply, I believe her name is Aeris because that is what the original FF7 game calls her. To me, that is more important than any other translations because I believe that FF7 is more important than any other related FF spinoff games since it's original. =)

Like I said, FF7 is just FF7. It does not go PAST FF7.

Crisis Core
Advent Children
Kingdom Hearts
Dissidia
FFTactics
Ergheiz
Dirge of Cerberus
Before Crisis
Lost Episode
FFX-2

And any other shit that involves Cloud, Sephiroth or any of the other characters in FF7, is NOT real.

It's just fanservice. Specifically geared for the people who are like OMG HER NAME IS AERITHHHHHH WITH A ITHHHHHH!! NOT AERISSS WITH AN ISSSSS! People that look way past the game and get too far into it to realize when the game is done and over with, it's over. If it's not part of the original game it's bullshit.-__-

With that said,

Aeris Aeris Aeris :awesome:

... Just fanservice? I'm sorry, but I disagree. Crisis Core, Before Crisis, Advent Children/Complete, Dirge of Cerberus. They all took us far deeper into the world that SquareEnix designed for FFVII. I personally think that saying it's geared for the people who prefer Aerith over Aeris is totally uncalled for. It's for all the fans who wanted to discover the past of the characters.

If you think it's just there to satisfy the "Aerith" lovers, fine, but you need evidence to back up such a claim. It's a translation error. I've always called her Aerith. Sure, my name was Aeris when I first joined but that's cos Aerith was taken and Stevie Nicks/Aerith at the time, asked me too.

I don't see what the big deal is. I prefer Aerith over Aeris cos it's pretty and seems to suit her face and personality more. If you're going to make claims to everything besides FFVII the original game being canon, try and back it up first. Saves a lot of debating and such in the long run, if you can provide hard evidence. =]

Oh god, Cloud was so worthless in Tactics. DURR I LOST MAH SWORD HURR HURR I'M ONLY LVL 1 WASNT I WORTH THE EFFORT?

The games are all unfortunately REAL, since they exist (obviously, but that's not what you meant)...but canonically speaking, well, it's all after the fact. I discount it all. I still think the more logical conclusion to VII's ending is that Meteor and the Lifestream wiped out humans, it just makes more sense that way. Then AC screwed it up.

It's just fanservice. Specifically geared for the people who are like OMG HER NAME IS AERITHHHHHH WITH A ITHHHHHH!! NOT AERISSS WITH AN ISSSSS! Pretty much. VII had a few plotholes in it (excuse me, mysteries), but I very much doubt that anyone who made the game intended for there to be a billion halfassed spinoffs with terrible plots (looking at you, Dirge of Cerberus). It's like what the Ultimania guide did with X-2, that idiot Nojima was all like DERP DERP SPACE TRAVEL DERP DERP SHINRA SPACE TRAVEL and it's like...none of it was never in the game, none of it was ever intended, it's all crap thought up afterwards to sell more copies and get more fans to spazz out.

Typically, the people who actually care about OMG ITS AERIS NO ITS AERITH are the over-obsessive fanboys who buy up any piece of garbage with the name FF7 on it. I say both, I don't care. I exclusively say Aeris around fanboys to piss them off, though.

With that said,

Aeris Aeris Aeris :awesome:
NO ITS AERITH! WITH A TH! GAWD!

Then why don't they do it for VI? Or for VIII or IX? Because VII has the biggest legion of fans, and some of the most irrational too. Taking us "deeper" into the world of VII hasn't amounted to anything better than what people have been writing for years in fanfictions.

I prefer Aerith over Aeris cos it's pretty and seems to suit her face and personality more.
Wut? Hurm...I didn't know names could suit faces.

Think it was more a matter of personal opinion. It's obvious they're established in the canon now, but it's all pointless because they're made long after the original game was made. The game was never made to have sequels or prequels.

I'm sorry if my previous post has offended anyone. (Sorry if this post isn't long enough I deleted the original post. lol)

Aeris. I just have always liked the name better than Aerith, even though it is a mistranslation. Whenever I say it, it makes me think about air for some reason, and I dunno... I think air kinda fits Aeris/Aerith in a way.

Oh yeah, also because it pisses people off.

Aeris Aeris Aeris

Guys, I really don't see any reason for everybody to get all worked up over this so let's all just calm down. It's a name...that's it. It's established now as canon, so why should it matter? The whole AERIS AERIS AERIS thing, let's try and not do that either. There's no need for it. Everybody has their own opinion on what they prefer to call her. I prefer Aerith, not because it's canon or official, but because I like the look and sound of it better and I agree with Vikki, it does match her looks but that is just my own opinion. You don't have to like it or agree with me, but that doesn't give just cause to be condescending towards each other. Also, it sounds like 'earth' to me. Makes it seem prettier and more in tune with Aerith, but, I reiterate, that is MY personal opinion. Also, this wasn't for fanservice. It's what SE decided her name to be and so it is. I hardly can call that fanservice. So please, let's just calm down, 'kay? :awesome: Cookie? :cookie:

I personally call her Aeris. To me,it sounds better and fits her better in my opinion. It's also what I started calling her first since it's on my version of FF7,so it's kinda stuck with me more. ^^

I don't mind the name Aerith though. After all,it's what her name was in the Japanese version, but I don't really like the "th" sound at the end of it. It sounds weird to me. haha. It's a good name though just not my preference.

Aeris is what I used before, Aerith is what I use now. When I first heard Aerith was the original spelling, I thought it was retarded, because she was called Aeris, and it seemed weird to change her name, as I thought that's what they did.

Now it depends on whatever comes to mind first, Aerith/Aeris, mostly Aeris to whoever I'm talking to, but Aerith if I'm typing out a post.

I call her Aerith mainly because 1. It sounds better in my opinion and 2. Its much easier to say and its really hard to tell what her real name is because well in CC she is called Aerith but in the original she is called Aeris but I guess the most accepted name for her is Aeris cus in the first game that was her real name so.....
