if you liked red alert 2 then you would like Dawn Of War as well, post your views on this amazing RTS game that brings the future to life.

Lol, I thought Dawn Of War was pretty fun too..
Can't help loving the Necrons despite their "wonderful" speed.

i absolutely loved the necrons, they are my fav army on the game, they may be slow but they pack a punch when they get to you, the monolith was immensley fun to use, how ever they were pretty easy to kill in the campaign when i used the space marines, i would have thought that the necrons would have been really difficult to kill, they did pose a threat all the way through the battle to destroy their HQ but they died in such great numbers so easily it was a joke, i cant wait for the new one to come out because they are introducing the tyranids into it, they kick everyone in because they out number everything 10-1 so there will be a decent opponent at last

Necrons = Cheap ass bitches

Loved the game and my fave RTS of all time, played it all the time online and loads of fun in the 3v3/4v4 games. Might get back into it when the new expansion comes out, only has Sisters of Battle and Dark Eldar as new classes which is a bit of a let down but hell the game is still fun. Space Marines were my favored class.

im not sure but i think that in the next expansion the creators of dawn of war will be letting the last armies come in, the dark eldar, the tyranids and the xenos ordos which is the sisters of battle as well, it should be good, im really looking forward to it

thats a shame, i have always despised the tyranids and seriously wanted to slaughter them with the space marines lol would have been good to watch them charge at my marines just to get blown to pieces by tank fire and heavy bolter fire

Relic have always stood by the view that the Tyrnaids wouldn't look as great as they would have liked them to be on the current game engine. I would fully expect that any true sequel will have them in it so you'll probably get your wish eventually.

i hope so because i really want to slaughter them, they may look crap but they are good at dying in large numbers lol

I can't belive I didn't saw this thread by now. Shame on me since I'm a huge Warhammer 40k fan.

The Dawn of war series si the best modern RTS IMO. So many different races(although some are way too weak like necrons and Tau), nice gameplay(no more cutting wood and hunting deers to train your soldiers) and interesting storylines(except for Winter assault:dry:). The new infiltrate system in Dark Crusade blows major time...it makes Chaos way too strong(damn...invisible space marines...cheese).

Compared to Eldar who can cloak and transport entire structures, I don't find that Chaos benefit that heavily from the INfiltration side of things. Add to that the fact that Cultists ( which take up two squad cap placements, terrible for a scouting unit ) are the only Chaos unit that can detect hidden buildings or units then they can get shafted quite bad by cloaking. 'Cos even if there's a Bloodthirster or Daemon Prince stomping around, as soon as the Cultistd die ( and they will, quickly ) then your dudes are just sitting ducks to whatever's being thrown at them. Space Marines can also suffer slightly, seen as only Scouts and Librarians can detect other forces.

On another note, played the Soulstorm demo a few days ago, and it has to be said that Dark Eldar are pretty nifty. I stopped playing 40k before they were introduced so there's a novelty factor for me in playing as them.

Actually chaos do benefit a lot from infiltration compared to eldar...having two or three chaos space marines squads infiltrated and upgraded with heavy bolters and with their berserk fury activated can be really powerful. As a detector unit they have the sorcerer (I know he's one of the lamest commanders) which with a few upgrades can be quite annoying so cultist can be left unrequisitioned with no regrets( and no used squad cap). The eldar don't have such powerful infiltrated units to compare them(the rangers...bah...the buildings....well all you need is the sorceror and a few defilers). The Space Marines are the best when it comes to detecting infiltrated units because they have......skull probes. They cost nothing, are infiltrated and are no longer loosing health slowly so they're not just for "temporary use".

Problem I have with Sorcerers is that I've always got a Bloodthirster summoning lying in the pipeline.....
And once the ritual's complete there's no more sorcerer and no more detection. I'll give you that cloaked Marines are a good thing, but that requires the third tier base, requiring a lot of resources, squads such as Tau Stealth Suits and Rangers are cloaked from the off, but both have their downpoints ( Stealth Suits are low number and low strenght, Rangers are limited to one squad for a start ).
I won't disagree that there is room for CHaos to certainly gain an edge from the infiltration element, but perhaps just because of who I've played against previously, I don't to find that cloaked Marines really give me an edge except when I sit back and defend, which isn't really a favoured tactic of mine. I'd rather sacrifice that for a detection unit which doesn't a) suck ( Cultists ) or B) isn't my commanding unit.

I'm actually enjoying being able to have a proper Dawn Of War conversation. :D Other forums I've been to don't tend to have any players around.

thats why when you want to use the blood thirster and the daemon prince, you also take a load of standard chaos troops and cultists for backup, that way you have the fire power and the means to see the hidden troops and building, one squad of cultists backed up by two squads of chaos plus the daemon prince/bloodthirster and your laughing and enjoying the carnage

I tend to find that Chaos players don't go for the invisible units at all and tend to go for the old Defiler rush tactic since it can be done pretty quickly.

It's nice to have I suppsoe but really not as necessary as for other races, me and two mates once won a 3v3 fight (2 SM and Eldar vs Necron, Imps and Tau)when it was two to them against one of my pals and he was the Eldar player, we won because he had one building hidden from them and they left after 20 mins looking for it! Not the way it's supposed to be used but I'll take it.

I'm pretty sure that gun turrets could detect inflitrated units as well so you've got that to fall back on. Only Tau would suffer from that since they don't have any which is why I stoped using them unless it's a 3v3 at the very least.

But why do you posses your sorcerer with the blood thirster instead of possessing a cultist squad aspiring champion(this kind of champion is very quickly produced!^_^)? Then simply delete de cultist squad(yeah...2 squad cap blows major time!) and charge with your little army and shed blood for Khorne.:wacky:
The fact that chaos doesn't get infiltration troops from the begining really doesn't matter. Once you got them to be invisible you can quit using other units(including vehicles) and start harassing your enemy.
Tau stealth suits are very weak.....way too weak considering the fact that they possess a burst cannon( if you played the tabletop game you know what a burst cannon on every member of the squad can do:blink:).
And what's the problem with the sorcerer beeing a detection unit? He's a detector that doesn't die in a few shots...always gets in the middle of the fun( and detect invisible units of course), he can teleport, he can cast spells.... I actually prefer a detecting commander rather than a unit. And if I'm not mistaking...the Chaos lord can use the Tainted auspex to reveal infiltrated units at a cost of 25 energy....even in his Daemon Prince form(at least I think so).

Yeah...Dawn of war talking makes me wanna play the game again!:D

@ Scrutator- Yeah...turrets detect infiltrated units....and Tau suck because of that.
The dark Eldar( in Soulstorm) are in the same position....they can't build turrets. Their units are weak in close combat( with a few exceptions like the Talos and the wytches) and very storng in ranged. They resemble Tau quite a lot in their tactics: mobile firepower(serious firepower). And they build just like the protoss in starcraft: simply select the location of the building and it will construct itself after that. Their builders have another role for collecting souls which you can use to cast some spells(they were very useless in the demo). And their commander is lame...he resembles the Imperial General because he needs a retinue to survive besides beeing weak in close combat.
