Fan Fiction Dissidia 012 Discussion

Square-Enix is not going to put various characters with the same job class or fighting style because it will totally ruin the game. They are aware of the consequences if they do make that move. They are trying to select the perfect characters to be added to the roster and balance them without making too many copies of the same battle style. That will be a downfall for this great game.
Oh thank goodness.

No more thieves/ninjas then?

I'd really like to see strong female characters be added to AND to see them actually keep the weapon set they actually had in the original game. :neomon:

Yes, I too saw the original weapons of Tifa Lockhart and Kain Highwind in Dissidia Final Fantasy. I was playing it the other day and I realized both of their final weapon are in it. That's how they were confirmed to be in Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy 012. I wounder if Square-Enix notice of this too.

Good to know, I was thinking we were going to have tons of thieves/sword fighters running amuck :gasp:

I hope we at least get one character who uses a rod.

How did you guys feel about the character interactions in Dissidia Final Fantasy? By this I meant by Battle quotes, cutscenes, and board dialogues. How would you guys like to see this change for Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy? Or would you want it to stay the same?

I wasn't very impressed by the character interaction of the original Dissidia. I'm not a very critical person, but it just didn't seem to work for me. I think it didn't help that the story had already started before we started playing, so we didn't really see the characters meeting one another for the first time, and we didn't get to see them develop much.

I guess being a fighting game has its limits though.

I would like to see a lot of improvements for the new Dissidia on this subject: better character interaction, more truthful portrayals of characters (difficult to do though given that most have never been voiced before Dissidia) and improved plotlines for the characters.

As I've said a bunch of times, I personally enjoyed the character interactions. Sure it's not in-depth, but I say we should be happy for any semblance of cross-over interactions. I don't think I'm wrong when I say a lot of fighting games have plenty of characters that seem to hate or care about eachother but we never really get solid background, so why give that flack to Dissidia when it's also a fighting game?

So I just roll with it, amused with what relationships the creators decided to, and just enjoy the gameplay.

I'd agree with that.

I didn't even realise that Tekken had a storyline until Tekken 5 (the first Tekken game I played which told you the character storylines before playing the stages). I can understand that fighting games, as a whole, do not tell the stories, or present the character interactions in the same way as an RPG or action game would. It's harder to do this within the gameplay mechanics, I guess.

Dissidia is quite different from most of the fighters I have played in that it's a bit of an RPG / fighter cross, but it is ultimately a fighting game. The story is only to justify the characters kicking each other's asses.

It's not that I found the character development and interactions poor though. It's just that I expected a bit more. More cutscenes, and more seen of the characters before we see them in Dissidia. All of that said, I am aware that it is a fighting game, and that many fighting games just say "next stage, fight!" So we should count our blessings.

I just posted in the Vaan thread that his Japanese voice actor has been changed due to contract reasons or something.

I'm not disappointed cos I couldn't care less about the character, but it certainly brings up something interesting; SE care more about the popularity of the character and will prioritize that over other things, no matter how significant like their voice.

This pretty much opens the door for Yuna; she 's MASSIVELY popular around the world but the only thing that made us doubt her appearance was the fact that her Japanese voice actor isn't working at the moment. If SE are prepared to change Vaan's voice, I'm sure they'll do that same with Yuna.

That doesn't disapoint me either, since i'm not a fan of Vaan's. But hearing that gives me hope that Yuna could make it in. X3

Here's more stuff on the whole Vaan VA issue:

Tetsuya Nomura wrote in a director's message the development team thought about leaving Vaan out of Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy when they couldn’t get Takeda in the studio. Fan questionnaires made the team change their mind. According to those surveys there was strong demand to have Vaan in the game.

Fan-demand? Is Vaan really that popular in Japan? O_O

Well there you go. For all the hate Vaan gets over here (although again, I don't hate him myself) if he's popular enough in Japan, it's not like people who were going to buy the game will suddenly revolt in outrage that he's gonna be included. I know people have strong words at time, but I found not a lot of people actually follow through :lew:

I'm not familiar with Vaan's Japanese VA, so it doesn't mean much to me. Although that kind of throws a wrench into future theories-I would've assumed any VAs that hadn't done any FF character voice work before might in fact being work for characters from older games that didn't have vocal audio, and therefore give a minor basis to consider at least what games future characters would come from.

Oh thank goodness.

Zidane keeping Locke out would be a travesty. It's not like they're doing much stealing anyway.

FF6 is the only FF which isn't represented very well by one protagonist. Terra/Locke would be the best combo by far. The only reason to go with Celes would be because you start as her as the halfway point (or to have a game with 2 female representatives, as I'm sure a few of the games will have 2 males). But really, Terra and Celes don't interact very much with each other in the original game and it would be the makings for a pretty meh storyline.

I would love to play the Jap version of FFXII, considering that we received a completely different game than what they got if Vaan is likeable in their version. >.<

But if VA's aren't a huge issue to them, then maybe there is hope for Gunner Yuna. =D But with the tally of Heroes, probably not.

*blinks* Kefka....puffy....Uhhhh...Hmm.

I almost screamed "Zomg, Bosch!" but then I saw Gabby's name at the bottom, lol xD

Terra's new outfit in full view looks pretty good actually. No complaints ^_^

And Vaan's alt. costume looks pretty kewl. I like that coiling thing going on around his biceps, rawr ♥

I thought it was Basch at first too. I almost got excited for a second there. XD

Kefka just looks....wow. I can't say I like that hat. It kind of throws the outfit off. o__O

Terra looks so pretty in her new costume! I love it! <3

They were just posted above. Now that I see Terra's new look in a scan I would say it isnt that bad. Green haired Terra all the way though. Only because I grew onto her xD. What happened to Kefka :lew:

In my defense....I only see tiny "x"s

That's "Lettuce" Kefka. One of the other works Amano did. Its his green variation.

I'm loving Terra's new alt. Its so cool! :D

I looove the new costume for Terra, but Kefka.... Looks like some form of flower, imo . Also, Gabby's new alt = :yay:

And, as popular as he might be in Japan, I really don't like the idea of Vaan being in Dissidia 012. I think that he wasn't that important of a character in FF12, even if he was the de-facto main character. He just... Always seemed to be along for the ride :/. Then again, Square Enix = Japanese, so meh.

Ha ha ha. :D

I find it hilarious that Lettuce Kefka is the new alt. I'm a bit disappointed that it isn't CGI Kefka, but I find it hilarious that they decided to give him this look as it is hugely unpopular, and people mock it all of the time.

For those of you who do not know the artwork from which it is based:

I don't think it is really bad myself, but it does look quite ridiculous.

As for the Basch costume for Gabranth.... I can't say I'm surprised, so it is quite cool to see that. If they can do that, then perhaps they may give us some other characters as alternate costumes for another? That said, probably not, as the only reason they could get away with this is because of them being twins and sharing the same face.
