Doctor Who

I liked the ep.

I thought it was disgustingly apologetic, though.

The trees being threatened were a manifestation of rainforest and ecological destruction inflicted in the real world. The "lifeforce" of the trees being contained and transmuted into another form was a thinly disguised attempt to sooth the guilty consciences of doomsdayers who feel man is owed some comeuppance for crimes against nature.

Its the type of thing I would watch and think.... oh yeah, bro, trees being cut down and rainforests being wiped out by greedy, unethical, logging corporations is totally 'ok' because there's a quaint trans-dimensional doctor working behind the scenes who'll fix everything....

No reason to think about those things because someone else will fix it.

Other than that, I thought it was pretty awesome & brought out the emo in me. :ohshit:

So about the Doctor's new companion :hmmm:... Another female. I think she'll be alright. My biggest problem is how many of the companions in the new series have fallen head over heels for the Doctor (minus Donna). That got pretty old after Rose. So as long as she doesn't fall in love with the Doctor and pursue a relationship, I'll have no problems with her

"It's not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it's about to happen. Jenna is going to lead him his merriest dance yet. And that's all you're getting for now.

"Who she's playing, how the Doctor meets her, and even where he finds her, are all part of one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters. Even by the Doctor's standards, this isn't your usual boy meets girl."

at the minute i'm not all that fussed about who the new companion is. for me, rory's shoes are too big to fill, but i'm very interested in this big mystery. apparently it's something we were told ages ago, but we don't know we were told it.

Im trying not to make a judgement on the new companion yet, I didnt like her in Emmerdale, but im trying not to let that cloud my judgment....

Also, in other news, I was at the Doctor Who Convention in Cardiff yesterday :monocle:

I got a picture signed and said hello to Matt Smith, but me and the boy crumbled and couldnt bring ourselves to say anything else other than our names haha

Trailer for upcoming ______... :ohshit:

Is Matt Smith's british accent real? I can never really tell.. :ohshit:

Haha. Is he funny in real life with his mannerisms, etc? :ohshit:

Already seen that trailer, I was there when it was aired :monocle:

I saw the moron filming it as well.

Yeah the accent is real so far as I can tell, and yeah he is pretty odd in real life as well lol. He also looks quite a lot skinnier as well, i think the suit jacket must pad him out ha

i just managed to watch the teaser for series 7. i know it only has clips from about three episodes, but none of it looks particularly mind-blowing. there didn't seem to be anything related to an overall story arc in it, and i thought the villain in the first episode (the cowboy one) looked a bit... cheesy. even for doctor who. i'm in no doubt that it'll be awesome in the end though.

Have they released a higher quality version of it yet? It looked alright from the recording. The Wild West setting seems...interesting. Hope that's only one episode :S

i want to know as little as possible, i wish I didnt know amy and rory were leaving but alas, thats the internet for you. And they announced it on the day - so it was unavoidable really

While I don't want Rory to leave, I don't mind that Amy is. I've kind of gotten tired of her. Also I'm glad that they've put scenes of David Bradley and Mark Williams in the trailer. I guess the episode it's mostly surrounding will be alright then

i'm in the exact same boat. i'm sick of amy just running around and shouting DOCTOOOR, even if she is ridiculously hot. however she brings rory to the story, which is always good, so i'll be sad to see him go.

i think i'm looking forward to the daleks returning. hopefully they'll be kept a bit more subtle and more fearsome than they were in past series.

I want at least one good Dalek episode. Last one was in season 5, and it wasn't all that good. Then the one in the season 5 finale but that was gone in a few minutes. They don't need to be the main cause of problems for the season, but I don't want them written out of the series entirely.

i'm glad that moffat acknowledged they were being grossly overused by russell davies and gave them a break. i just hope that one season was enough for them. if they do return and it's a crap episode, no one will ever be able to take the daleks seriously again.

As to the whole Amy/Rory thing...I enjoyed Amy a lot more than I did Rory. For the first half of Season 6 and almost all of season 5, Rory was basically Kenny from South Park. Dying and coming back and dying and coming back. I kind of got sick of it really. To be fair, the only reason I really liked Amy was because she was amazingly hot and in most of season 5 wore skimpy outfits. I'm still kind of indifferent to River Song, even though she's been in 3 seasons now and had a fairly important role in two of them.

On the other hand...what do you guys think of the new companion announcement? Jenna -Louise Coleman. She hasn't really done much at all. I've only seen her in Captain America: The First Avenger...and that was only a minor role. I look forward to seeing her though. No name for her character yet.

I was a bit surprised by the choice, but then again (with the exception of Billie Piper and Catherine Tate) I hadn't even heard of any of the companions before they ended up in Doctor Who.

I had heard of this girl though, but I did not know her name until now. She used to be in the British soap Emmerdale for a number of years. I never watched it, but with the number of times you walk by TVs playing that sort of thing you do pick up faces, and hers was one of them. She's also recently been in a TV series on Titanic where she played a First Class maid. I've seen that and she seems pretty chirpy and slightly mad. After seeing her in this I can see her as a Doctor Who companion, I just hope they work up a good story for her. Amy and Rory are a hard act to follow, and I liked those two much more than any of the companions since the new Doctor Who began.

im really trying not to judge, but I thought she was shit in Emmerdale - Im hoping it was more to do with her character and the script she was given but he acting skills didnt seem very broad

Well, in her defense, she really hasn't gotten casted for anything big before. Hell, Matt Smith even got this job because he was rejected for another. He auditioned to be Doctor Watson in Sherlock, Moffat was like...no. You're too quirky. Watson isn't quirky. Called him a few days later and cast him as The Doctor. Smith hasn't had a career that long, and he gets type-cast already. It's pretty ridiculous.

any actor who plays the doctor is type-cast. barely anyone had heard of david tennant before he took the role, and most people don't even realise that he's still very active in the industry.
