FFXIV ARR Beta

I've noticed that the lag is especially bad in Gridania.

I've only gotten to play a little bit on two different days, but in my limited experience Gridania was awful one day and fine the next. Certain graphics-intensive areas dropped frames no matter what, but I think it can be a highly varied experience. There's all sorts of opportunities for lag in this game--the PS3's aging hardware for one, and servers for another. I was personally rather shocked to see just how much SE had to scale back the graphics to get things as smooth as they are on PS3.

I will most likely want to transfer my character and use her when I start playing the actual game. Unless that is not possible? I just wanna keep my same name, lol. I didn't level too much, so I wouldn't mind leveling over again.

Not only is it possible, it's simpler than transferring. Just log in with the same account and boom, your character will be right there!

I'm not sure, with the other phases, characters never carried over 'aka, they got deleted at the end' not sure if that applies to this phase.

As for lag, apart from a login problem on friday I had no problems, the only major one is that it lags when a fate event is going on... man their crazy

I dl'd the client on ps3 the day after i got email got to lvl 10, didnt get down to hard. Now servers are down :(.. BUT i did go completely buy my preorder for the ps3 FFXIV ARR :)!

I'm not that surprised, actually. Considering how little RAM the PS3 has, they've done a wonderful job of forcing a TON of popup and yet I was still able to enter FATEs and assist newer players with battles with low latency...well...low enough to where my attacks actually counted and I earned XP for the result. I'm not sure if that's because MOST people were on PS3 or because the cross-platform code/servers is done well enough to make that possible.

But yeah the popup is EXTREME at times, especially in populous areas. I am thrilled that they are making this cross-platform thing work on such a largely populated game on PS3 which is CLEARLY years behind in hardware specs as compared to your average PC and even the recommended settings.

I do wonder if they'll have some kind of deal for owners of the PS3 version to pick up a PS4 version for free or at a discount. I'd love to play this game on PS4 but I ain't waiting till February to do it :p

The PC version is nice. I still play with my PS3 controller but it is nice to be able to use the mouse and keyboard to navigate menus and chat.

I will try to get on today. I still need to test importing my 1.0 on a legacy server though.

Trying out the PC version. See how I like it, how comfortable I am sitting for a few hours, etc. I'll probably end up hooking up my PS3 controller though. I can't imagine using the keyboard to travel across the vast land of Eorzea.

I was playing this on my PS3 last night...and I was about ready to leave Horizon. On my way out, I get a message from someone (who's not on my friend's list), "Suki from FFF?" I thought that was so weird and random. xD Not sure if any of you remember Captain Jack...or I think that was his username here. He's been inactive for a few years now. But what were the chances that we'd both be on Cactuar server and doing a quest in Horizon at the same time! =O

the pc version is great, sadly reading from the beta forums and personal experience, the game has a problem with nvidia cardsa

got greeted with a nice 'driver stopped working and recovered' message after 2 hours of playing. guess that what you get when playing beta's

Two problems I have with the PS3

One half the time the words go off the screen when someone is talking to you (quest related) two looking at the quest, half of it is off the screen also... so you really can't read what all you are suppose to be doing :rage:

@Bugs Bunny - the issues you are having trouble with, I was able to fix myself by going to System > HUD and just moving the windows (you'd have to select each window on the drop-down list) so that they're not too close to the sides. I'm able to read the text now. The only issue now is just the chat window. It's too close to the left side, as well as the bottom.

I'm trying to use the PS3 controller via DS3 Motionin Joy but I'm having trouble with the right analog stick. Can't find the proper setting for it, so I haven't been able to properly calibrate the PS3 controller yet. There's no way I can play this game by using the keyboard. :hmmm: Tried it, and ended up getting dizzy because I can't control the cameras properly. I'm sure it takes some getting used to.

I believe that the game has support for 360 controllers soo just put ds3 in xbox 360 emulation mode and it should work, I did that for rush bros and worked like a charm, I might try out the ps3 controller on the pc version if only because movement is an pain

The PS3 version annoyed me too much with the screens/windows and I don't feel like using a keyboard with my PS3. Kinda awkward without a desk.

Nonsense! I play all my games on the floor in my living room on my big screen. =D.
+ I think the floor is better for your back anyways...Although I may be playing longer than most people...

Ohh, well I'd rather not sit on the floor and constantly have to switch between using the keyboard and the controller - unless Square Enix is gonna come up with a way for PS3 players to solely use the keyboard for macros, too.

Also, I fixed my windows/screens for the beta, so now everything fits nicely. I realized I had to adjust my display settings on the PS3. >D; Still getting the PC version though~ x3 Gonna be awesome.

Seems like it wouldn't be to hard to use a keyboard/mouse combo for the game on ps3 since it does have usb ports. I'm not sure if they are making the game that way and I agree I used to play EQ on my ps2...way back in the day...and I had to switch from controller to keyboard; it wasn't that bad tho it was my first online game I didn't really even notice it really.
gz on fixing your settings :lew:

Made myself a conjurer named Sileen Tebnerus, a Miqo'te gotta stick with the catgirls xD.

I got invited into the beta for this weekend which made me happy considering I registered for beta when it was available to do so, I made a male Hyuer and im around level 7 now. I have done bits of everything whether it be fetch, instance battle, fate and general exploration. The game feels very well polished and to me just feels like FFXII but as an MMO which to me is very appealing, the only downside is the limited voice acting but however it means I get to read and the writing is really well written in my opinion.

I have played a few different MMOs as of late and the combat system on this one is good but not the best, part of me wishes it was more like Tera yet again like I said before this does feel like FFXII so it doesn't really bother me. Can anyone tell me though do these characters stay or do they get deleted then in time for the proper launch? cause if so that will depend on how much I play cause I dont want to do to much for it then to be for nothing.

Actually I have a question, I know this was talked about on page 5 but I just want it clarified.

In Phase 4 (in July?) the game will be in a open beta?

And will everyone who registered via the site get invited via Email?

I'm really interested in playing XIV when its out in August but I'd like to see what its like before hand xD, shame you guys couldn't record the game and upload the daily stuff in the game :P
