FFXIV ARR Beta

Sorry I can't really answer your question Aaron. I'm not too sure myself... :hmmm:

Anyhow, just an update. I've been playing the beta for PC and it runs pretty freakin' smoothly considering I have a somewhat crappy graphics card (Intel Intergrated HD Graphics). But in any case, I will still upgrade my graphics card because I feel that the actual game will have a higher standard for graphics settings or whatever.

Yay~ :yay:

Do you know what intel CPU you have? because most intel hd graphics can run things generally pretty well, I mean I can't really say cause I have an expensive dedicated graphics card running mine on everything maximum. But I have scaled it down for a friend and it still looks really nice and still plays very well. Do you have a PC controller at all or like plug in your PS3 controller via DS3 tools etc? I mean I am used to an MMO with keyboard and Mouse but my friend who got into the beta last week said try the controller and I have...and it works really damn well!

I have an i5 CPU, so perhaps that also explains how the game runs so smoothly. Honestly, I like how the game is running for me so far, but I am worried that once this game releases, I might get lag from the influx of players. Since you seem knowledgeable about graphics cards and computer stuff, which graphics card would you recommend? I was debating between a GeForce GTX 770 or Radeon HD 7970.

I'm also pretty used to using a keyboard for MMOs. It feels a bit tedious to me to use a keyboard and controller since most commands can be easily done using shortcuts on the keyboards. That's one of the reasons why I decided to preorder the PC version of XIV. :3

Ahh I see well I run the best i5 at the moment...and to be honest from a gaming standpoint you will never need to go to an i7...I may in time because of the hyperthreading (which if you dont know is a faster way of processing multiple tasks and it has virtual cores as well) but back to the subject I am a very loyal Nvidia man myself...and I have a GTX 670 OC edition which gets running around similar to a 770 standard so for me it isnt an investment worth it for me....however for yourself and comparing the two cards.. the 770 is just a pinch better than the 7970...which depending on the money you have to spend is another thing entirely...there isn't much in terms of my currency £'s but I don't know for you...if the 7970 is a lot cheaper then go for it...or if you are like myself and like nvidia then go for the 770.

I also think that I'd prefer to get an NVIDIA graphics card myself. I'm starting to think that maybe getting a GTX 770 isn't so necessary, and that perhaps I could get a "lower" model. I think I price checked Newegg and found the 770 for $400. Ideally, I don't want to spend more than $300 on a graphics card if it isn't necessary, y'know? Like you're saying that GTX 670 runs similar to 770, and it may even be $50-100 cheaper, lol.

I don't play tons of MMOs on my computer, and most of them don't have high graphics standards. FFXIV is pretty much the only game I am worried about since my PC didn't perform so well for the benchmark (little below average). I think they are going to upload a new benchmark though with lower graphics standards.

For me turning a few settings down for ultra to very high or high depending on the game doesnt bother me...I can still get 1080p with beyond 60fps then thats good in my book and I do agree with the fact that the 670 is a very capable card and is much cheaper probably..it is by a bit in the UK. I done the benchmark and got a score of 7770 (extremely high it said) on everything maximum at 1080p. So I mean it depends if your more of a console player and play the odd game on PC...I mean the 670 will run a fair few games on pretty high specs minus things like AA beyond 8x etc for a year or two longer and then I might just buy another one to SLI combine them. It is all down to you and how much you want to spend, but FF14 does look pretty but it does really remind me of a gigantic multiplayer version of FFXII which is a good thing in my books...also the price for the actual game here is £20! which is awesome when normally new games cost £42.

Well I got my code today, I'm glad I checked my spam mail box ~_~ for some reason it got put in there, I'll be joining you guys soon. :D I'll post my IGN once I get all my details sorted out.

EDIT: My IGN is Alicia Xeronia, I'm a Mithra(forgot the new name) Gladiator XD I'll be around my newbie town trying to get used to the system, thankfully I found how to edit the HUD rather quickly and am enjoying the game, I may actually buy and play this if I can figure out the payment system when its out.

Man, you guys talking makes my GTX 460 feel seriously out of date. I don't plan to get XIV when it releases so I won't need a high end graphics card for that purpose, but still. It still handles new games based on current-gen consoles admirably, but it's a fail at benchmarks nowadays so I imagine it will feel really outdated once next-gen hits in full force :(

Right now I've got my sights set on this card, but I don't have concrete plans to buy it yet because I'm not rich and I feel a little guilty replacing perfectly functional hardware :P Anybody want to sabotage my 460 while I'm not looking so I can upgrade without any reason to feel bad? >_<

Don't mind if I do! *swipes the graphics card*

I think $250 for the GTX 760 is pretty good! I wouldn't mind spending that much. I don't wanna get too sidetracked here, but graphics cards are compatible with certain towers, right? Like I can't just buy any old graphics card and expect it to fit in my computer tower...?

Also, I think it's pretty sad that we can't transfer our characters from Phase 3 into the actual game. It makes me wonder if I should even bother creating a new character in Phase 4. Maybe I should just wait until the game releases. :hmmm:

Why not, if you play a beta you should always be prepared that your character will not carry over to the main game, unless stated otherwise (in this case Phase 4) and it will be worth it in the end, keeping a name for your character(that someone may steal during Phase 4) being able to do some leveling and what not before hand. and Since we'll be paying monthly every free second helps.

Course thats up to you in the end lol

Well, you do make a good point, Sir Aaron. :hmm: I doubt anyone would be taking my name, but it would be nice to get a head start I suppose... Since Phase 4 is an open beta, I'd imagine a lot of people would be trying out, so it won't be an unfair advantage. >D

Yeah do your homework on that to be sure, but if you built your PC then chances are low that you'll have any issues. It's pre-built desktops that are the problem, since manufacturers try to make those as small and skinny as possible these days. Anymore though most graphics cards are basically the same size, so if you already have a decent GPU chances are the replacement will measure close to the same dimensions.

I just didn't put much care into creating my character in the first place so I wouldn't be disappointed when he vanishes :lew:

Are you guys going to be playing on a new server during Phase 4? I'm going to be on a legacy world with a group of friends. Didn't know if this group was going to be on a non legacy world or not.

Well from what I been catching the chars we make in phase 4 will transfer to the release of the game. So during the open beta it would be worth to do some stuff, then plus the early release bonus for the pre-order is an extra. I am waiting till my next paycheck to see if gamestop or their online store get any more phys copies of the collectors edition in, if not gonna suck it up and get a stupid digital copy. But gonna miss out on the things I really want from the collectors edition like the art book, and the story of the war pregame events.

you are correct, characters made in the open beta carries over to the final game :)

I'm really bloody annoyed, I may not be able to even play the beta due to my IP being stupid, for some reason my connection keeps dropping off so I'm gonna have to nag them to death to fix their server.

As for Phase 4 I agree we should all pick the same server by now so we can make that Linkshell, so if we're gonna stay in Cactaur we need to decide now :P

I completely forgot to check my email. I got a code! I will download the game asap, but I dont think I will be able to play until sunday!!!! To be continued!

Alright, everyone. So let's have a discussion about which server we'd all like to play on. My main thing is that I want a server with a cool name. Unfortunately, it seems like the best server names are for the European and Japanese servers. >.>;

Not surprisingly, I prefer the servers Chocobo and Moogle, but I guess I'm open to other servers. xD; If we opt for a North American server, then Leviathan is cool. But we also have some European players, right? So Moogle, Odin, or Shiva would also be great choices.

I know we're not necessarily limited by region - for instance, we can play on a JPN server, but being closer to the appropriate regional towers would be better for connectivity. I mean, maybe it wouldn't make much of a difference if you have a good internet connection anyhow. :hmmm:

If you wait that long Ohri you won't be able to play period, by the time sunday comes around the servers will be closed again, they're only open on Friday and Saturday, they close sometime Early Sunday Morning (I think like 3am or something)

EDIT: Also on Server I wouldn't mind Leviathan or Diablos Servers I'm leaning towards Leviathan more since its been one of my favorite summons in FFVIII

I'm probably going to have to go to a NA one regardless since my net isn't the best (and its still fucked so I have to wait for a new router coming in 5-6 days -.-)

I was thinking along the lines of the same two. I would prefer Leviathan as the watersnake seems more badass to me and looks cooler. Think it would be best to stick to a NA server as well just to cut back on lag as much as possible.
