No this isn't a poll, but I've seen some great debaters on the forums as well as great writers.

On a scale of one to ten, I want to know how you guys and girls think you are at writing posts/threads. Be honest.

6/10 - My grammer sucks hard. I rely to much too much on spell check and such, and basically when I get to typing I just let my brain spew it all out on paper. Hince why I can write a 5 page paper in less than 30 minutes, because of all I got up in my cranium. I also sometimes have to look up words because my vocabulary isn't as big as some. I am very critical of myself, but hey I can type fast and can rail out a post and a thread very fast and be point driven. Sometimes though I can write to long and stray from the point, or put people at a disinterest. So I try to avoid it when possible, but otherwise I like to be as thorough as I can.

1/10 i suk at posting =) my grammers lame and unintelligent and like alot of people i force my self to write a huge explaination over some simple yes or no answer that makes no sense or else i get yelled at by mods XD anyways i hope to improve hehe

Around 8.5 to 9/10. I make an attempt to strive for proper grammar and a point to all of my posts. The score may slightly dwindle a little due to some of my posts being a bit short.

I'd have to say that I'm an 8 or 9/10. I'm really big about spelling and grammar, but I'm not perfect at it myself. The length of my posts are usually decent sized, and sometimes I can use run-on sentences without noticing. After I post, I usually read the post and edit anything that looks incorrect, haha. That may be going a bit too far, but I'm really OCD about it. :P

8/10 or 9/10... A lot of times I rush posting, though, hence using poor grammar. But when I take the time I'd say I articulate my thoughts pretty well. When it's a subject I feel strongly about, though, I tend to trail off in a ranting manner and repeat myself.
After I post, I usually read the post and edit anything that looks incorrect, haha.

I do the same thing XD

I suck, I'd give myself a 4. My grammar is almost none existent, I can't spell for shit and if there was an award for typo's, I'd be sure to win it. As long as people knwo what I'm saying then I'm not all that fussed tbh, I'm not in school, I don't feel the need to be over meticulous over my posting, and it's not like I'm at work either

As long as people know what I'm getting at and I'm not typing total eye cancer then screw being perfect

Hmmm 6/10

I can spell pretty well though laziness and my unwilling to do so usually means i end up forgetting about capital letters, or, spelling words like 'you' as 'u'
I really hate text talk but its so much easier and more efficient sometimes.
I think the quality of a post matters more than the spelling but if i see a post thats written with grammar mainly consisting of phrases like this.
'I wnt 2 c wot u luk like' etc etc
I wont read that, its irritating in my opinion which makes me hypocritical to an extent because im guilty of using many of those words myself, though never to that length. Actually im sure if you look over this post You'll see examples of my txt talk ¬_¬

Hmm..
I'd say a 6.5-7/10
I know grammar and such, just not perfectly. I suppose i can post fairly decent posts regarding length and structure. But, i guess that it sometimes takes me awhile to post. Mainly due to my awkward typing. Also could be cause i don't always know wwat to say... Spelling isn't too bad, I'll just correct whatever i misspelled 5-10 secs after type it :P Yeah a 6.5 seems to fit well.

I'd like to state right out of the gate that Shu, you're definitely low-balling yourself. I'd say you're at least an 8. You're one of the more well-spoken people on this forum.

Like Shu, I'd also say that I'm an 8/10. I'm sort of a prude and don't know internet slang much, so I actually type grammatically correct (or I try to at least). Sometimes I read a post and it's a bunch of random letters that I can't make sense of, so I do tend to emphasize my grammer as well, just so others can understand. I'll admit that a lot of times when I post in a debate thread, I'm doing so from work, and with divided attention at times or minimizing the window when my boss walks by, that I may sort of not make sense with a post. And for the most part I proofread my post after I make it to make sure it looks fine.

I do think that I lack pure intellect, so I don't always sound articulate when I post. This would be the downside of my writing. I do believe that common sense is the best form of intelligence, but I know others would see otherwise.

Lol. 3/ 10 ? Have to use Windows to check to see whether or not the spelling is right.
And really have sucky grammar skills. And get basic skills screwed up like putting marks in the wrong places and adding capital letters not always after full stops. But usually always edit a post to make sure whether it's right or not afterward. Espically when writing something hyper/ crazy.

Used to be about a 2/10 though. Used to ignore the bad spelling and just type whatever.
But kept on getting told off by friends and random people.

On paper it's pretty bad. Left and right. Teachers needed to fetch out and find their glasses just to read paperwork. >____>''

This only applies to posts here and not general essay-type writing, yes? Then that's probably a 5, 6, or 7...depending if I'm really into the threads or posts. I try to watch my spelling and grammar but I know it's not perfect. And for long thorough posts, that depends on the subject and if it really interests me. Otherwise, if I'm just posting for fun then it goes down to a much lower score mainly due to post length. So it all really depends - I don't think I can actually pinpoint a score and maintain that according to my writing because it varies. But I must say that if I do see a little error after I have made my post, I always edit it. Some would probably just leave it as it is and can't be bothered to change it, but I can't stand that so I'll fix some errors when I spot them.

Eh, 7/10 (being modest here), but that could be attributed to the fact that I am my own worst critic. On top of being the proud owner of a bachelor's degree in English, I do enjoy writing original stories and fan fiction here and there. I've been told I'm quite good at what I do and I've also been told I could use some work. I'd have to agree with the latter, though.

I go to 11.

Seriously though, I'd spot myself at about an 8.5 or 9. I'm finishing up my history degree, thus, I write more than anybody except English majors. And I just can't bring myself to be anything other than grammatically correct. I try to catch all my typos, but some get through. And I have this weird habit of completely omitting a word here and there. It's like my brain has a little mini-seizure, and I just assume the word is there.

Anycrap.

Yeah.

7/10

Well, considering my end-of-year exam score, I am so not in to 'describing and explaining an ideal school' but just recently I found out I can write essays and poems well on certain conditions. I would rarely have any typos but tenses...meh. Needing to expand my vocabulary a bit. BTW, online I often use short forms.

:jtc: in English subject on the whole. Don't really like it that much.

Post wise I'd say about 8 or 9 since my grammar and spelling is pretty much spot on, although I don't think many people would care if it wasn't. :wacky: My writing in real life's better purely because of making it neat >.>

And I have this weird habit of completely omitting a word here and there. It's like my brain has a little mini-seizure, and I just assume the word is there.
I do that too! D:

Baha, remember when you kept talking about some person and not naming them until I said 'Larxene?'

I'd put myself to about 7/10, when I feel like it I can type out a MASSIVE post, but I get lazier now that my entire fucking keyboard is dead. :gonk: I still try to put my point across as best I can, of course.

Meh I don't really pay attention. Maybe a 7 or 8. I try my best to make sense and I'm pretty good wiht dem grammers u people alkingskdlgsdm, gxm

I'd say mine is right up there, closer to the 10 than back a ways. In terms of online as compared to real life, I'd assume most people put more effort into their writing away from cyber posts, as it's not as important as writing stories/essays and such; you don't have to care so much about grammar, spelling and being coherant.. in fact, being coherant doesn't seem to matter at all online, and sometimes it's more amusing that way. ^_^

I used to get top exam marks for my year, and even the year above me in my later years of school.. and have had a few things published. So I guess mine would be around 8 or so.. but I haven't been writing for some time now so it is probably lacking somewhat these days. >_>

5/10.

I just write what rolls out. I don't give it extra attention unless it's for School or so. I'm aware of grammar, although it may not be correct all the time. I write how I "speak", too. =P So sometimes it doesn't flow. Like this post, ack. .__.
I write quite fobby on bad days. ¬_¬ Miss out vital words in sentences etc.
