Something I've wanted to do for a while now is have an original region Pokemon RP. I'm still in the process of working out the mechanics of the whole thing, but I figured I'd see if anyone else would be interested. Here are just a few things about how the RP would operate:

+ The new region would be designed from scratch (well, the map would be sprited, but I'd leave the layout of the cities to a small description and the player's imagination) and likely based on the United Kingdom.
+ Trainers would start with Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. Depending on the level of interest - i.e. if more than three people want to be starter trainers - later gen starters could be worked into it as well.
+ Evil Team's objective will involve Ho-Oh and the Legendary Dogs.
+ Obviously, Gym Leaders and Elite Four members would be applicable as well. It'd be one per-person to start with, though. They'd specialise in a single type, same as the games, same sort of levelling progress as the fourth gen games.
+ It'd be entirely original, so no cameos. Well, I might allow Jessie, James and Meowth, provided I see lots of cross-dressing for James, life-threatening explosions, Wobbuffet, and fourth-wall breakage.
+ It'd just be Pokemon Trainer OCs to start with, unless there was some interest in Pokemon Contests. No sense writing those in if people aren't interested. xD
+ Battle mechanics would be something of a hybrid between the game, anime and manga. Levels and movesets would be utilised, but Pokemon would not forget moves as they levelled up - after all, if you teach a dog to catch a ball, it does not forget how to have a shit - and creativity with moves would also be allowed - you can dodge, use an offensive move to block another offensive move (Fire Punch to block Leaf Storm, etc) etc etc. Manga mechanics would come in the form of Pokemon actually dying if you put them under immense strain, and special abilities outside of battle: using Golbat to scramble radio waves, Porygon to hack computers, etc.
+ Everything would be in the RP, from first to fifth gen. Although obviously trainers wouldn't be able to own Legendaries, or have nothing but ridiculously overpowered, high-level Pokemon. No tiers, either. Different Pokemon would also be available for catching in different areas of the world, although it'd take me a VERY long time to write out a full Pokedex, so it'd likely be a case-by-case "PM me to find out if you could get that there" basis. I doubt it'd be much of an issue, though...people can use their common sense, right?

Soooo...is anyone interested, or have any questions? I'll start nailing everything down over the weekend, if people would want to join ♥

I grew up with this and since its an RPG i continued to like it. I'd be interested. Should be fun. I've looked at other RPG's doing this but no one experienced was playing. was just one liner posts, no fun or description or imagination.
 
well been a long time since i played pokemon... (back when there were 151 pokemon...) Sign me up...
 
I am interested in this in ways that the english language is unable to fully articulate. So instead of trying, I'll just say this: there is no pokemon so terrible that you having me start with it could prevent me from being interested. Except maybe Dunsparce. That's a lie. Definitely Dunsparce. But otherwise, we're solid.

Maybe I'll draw up the sprite map over the weekend/this afternoon, to see what people think~

What if you started with... a Magikarp... level 1......and thats it... and no money...or whatever its called in the pokemon world....and no ones nice to you and wont give you a free pokeball?
 
If possible, I'd like to join in. I've playing in and hosted many different Pokemon RPs before, so I'm quite familiar with it all. If later gen starters are available, then I'd definitely be up for having Torchic as my starter.

Read this and the next 3 after it. Magikarp is truly the most hardcore of all pokemon. Anything that goes from useless red carp to water dragon is worth the effort.

X3 This sounds awesome! Since we're obviously having more then three people... so many dibs on Cyndaquil, mainly because I'm replaying Crystal and Cyndaquil is epic. I got my whole team planned out....

X3 this should be fun.
 
Time for a random update on my progress!
+ The map goes absolutely nowhere, because I've not had the time to sprite it yet...I'll get around to it, though. When I do, then I'll probably make application and information threads.
+ Evil team plot and whatnot has been finalized.
+ Still trying to sort out the mechanics for things, so I'd like some opinions. Would people prefer to start from the very beginning, with nothing but a level 5 starter, or would you prefer to be at random stages? I think I'd say you're not allowed any more than four badges, with Pokemon capped at around level 25, to start with. That may change though, depending on...things.
+ Was anyone thinking of applying for Gym Leaders or anything? At the moment, I'm applying for Elite 4 member #4, the Champion (who is also going to be the evil team boss) and a starter trainer with Bulbasaur.
+ If you're going to reserve Gym Leaders (and the types they'll specialise in) or starters, now is the time. I'm reserving Bulbasaur, and my Elite Four member will be a Psychic specialist.

I would prefer to start from the start myself. Have a good long RP thread. Also do we need to choose one of the starters or can we choose another? (within reason)
 
Start from the start. I'll also take the 8th gym leader position, as a Dragon trainer. My starter trainer shall be using Cyndaquil.
 
I think we'll stick with the starters, having people pick whatever they like would bother me. Although there are fifteen starters to pick from (well, Cyndaquil, Bulbasaur and Charmander have all been taken, so twelve) and I doubt there will be enough interest to take all of those. xD

Regarding Gym Leaders...when forming their teams, use Platinum Gym Pokemon number and levels as a guideline for your own. I'm using Platinum over Black/White because I'd like the Gym Leaders to be a bit more powerful, and they're as strong as they come in Platinum.

Also, we're using the Black/White Pokedex. So, look to that for what Pokemon learn when they level up, evolve, etc etc.

And, regarding Egg moves, TMs/HMs, move tutor moves and whatnot, Gym Leaders, Elite Four members and basically anyone who is not starting out with a starter Pokemon can have up to four of them per Pokemon. Four altogether, not four each. Wild Pokemon you catch in the RP will be the same as what you would find in the game. You'll be able to get TMs and stuff in towns and everything, though. Black/White TM/HM system.

Oh, and this map is only going to be LOOSELY based on the UK. So, it'll have the shape, and the cities, towns and landmarks will be inspired by places in the UK, but I'm not aiming for insane accuracy here. I'm going to put forests and marshes here and there. So nobody chew me out over it. xD

Oh, and the Team boss is going to need three Commanders. Grunts are going to be NPCs. I'll assign the codenames, so that they fit with the theme.

EDIT:
Battle mechanics are going to be a mix of the anime and manga. You'll be able to dodge and be creative, because it's much more exciting than just calling out attacks and measuring out damage. Manga elements come in with the whole death if put under immense pressure, using Pokemon outside of battle things.

I was wondering two thins about this RP

First of all, Would it be possible to Start with an Eevee, it will evolve, but not saying into what) that doesn't go inside a pokeball?

and is knowledge of black/white version a must have?
