KOTR - Knights of the Round

(I remember I joined this club. With Vesmor.)

Else where in the castle.

Vesmor, a bangaa, is pacing on a balcony to his room. His armor glinting in the moon light and his red cape flowing in the winds. He is grasping something in his hand. He looks down at it and thinks. Then looks back up after bringing back old memories of the pasts. Tossing those memories back aside

He hears some humans talking in the hall. He ignores them and continues on his own thinking.

"Nothing important really..." Julius' attempt to hide the thoughts that troubled him were futile, for his eyes revealed the lies that his lips spoke. He lowered his face, his hair fell and covered his eyes. "I can't believe all I fought for is gone, there's nothing left to do. Even though Lucius was released from the demon, my brother insisted on leaving....and I don't know why....All this peace, I can't believe it...just to wait for another evil to arise....an endless cycle of life and death, joy and pain..."

Julius turned to face Shenorai, and looked straight to her eyes. The pace of his heart seemed to slow down as his will to keep going on with this endless fight against evil, one that would be destined to rise soon. Even though he knew that this subject could make Shen fell uneasy, Julius asked her about his brother and her feelings towards him. "Shen....how are you? I just wanted to know since....Lucius.....do you know why he left?"

The answer to that question could not be probably answered, since the only track left behind by Lucius was a letter revealing his love and his intentions to marry Shenorai as soon as he purified his soul. One that was given to Shenorai...

Silence was all that was heard in the hallway for a few moments. Shenorai's eyes were hesitant to meet Julius', as though almost afraid to tell him what she didn't know. With a sigh, she beckoned him towards her door.

"Come in," she said quietly, a small key pulled out of her pocket. She quickly unlocked the door and walked on in, holding it open for her friend. "Please excuse the mess."

...mess? What the hell is she talking about? Everything in the room was kept very neat and tidy. The bed was made, clothes weren't in sight, the windows were clear, and there wasn't a speck of dust to be seen. There was a large mirror that covered a single unused wall, completely polished and giving the room a larger appearance. Thanks to the reflection of that mirror, the fallen winged woman that always accompanied the bounty hunter was in plain view.
The room was actually pretty small. It was just small enough to fit three king-sized beds in side-to-side. The table had a lace cloth draped over it with a small vase, a few thornless roses leaning over the table. There were only a couple stools pushed under the table, but it served as seating anyway. If anything, the only mess there was in the room was the trio of rose petals that had fallen upon the lace.

Shenorai walked over to her bed, slipping her gloved hand beneath her pillow and extracting an envelope. The wax seal was not even cracked, yet the envelope was open. A small, reminiscent smile was upon her lips as she stared at the letter in her hand.

"...you know...I remember you saying something about Lucius and I being married. Back at the floating castle..."

Was this relevant? Perhaps so. She handed the envelope to Julius.

"This was all he left behind. I wish we would've had a proper good-bye, but I guess that can't be helped now. I haven't shown or talked to anyone else about this yet."

Julius approached Shenorai and picked a letter sealed with Lucius' Insignia, a two dragon wings surrounding a sword and the letter "L" on the very center of the seal. The letter spoke much of his intentions with Shenorai, how Lucius wished to marry her in Rothzalia Village, the city of the Elves. How he agreed with his inner conscience that the process of the purification of his soul was still incomplete and that it was required to be done. Finally, how he had decided to embark himself on a long journey to the north of Arnazil, the land where the Duke Aiden Zeres Silverwing's has his castle that served as the stronghold of the Lions of Arnazil, Aiden's army.

Julius dared to sit on a small green armchair he found in order to analyze the letter even more. He leaned his right elbow on the right arm of the chair, and placed his chin on the palm of his right hand while holding the letter with the left hand. After brief moments, Julius placed the letter on the small wooden table next to the armchair, and fixed his eyes on Shenorai.

"According to this letter, he left to the north and that means that the he must be searching for the Grand Temple of Arnazil, located to the west of the stronghold of the Lions of Arnazil....My cousin Aiden's domains."

Julius rose from the armchair and headed towards the mirror, and for an instant he remained gazing upon his reflection, as if he were seeing his twin brother Lucius. His fists tightened, and he suddenly felt an indignation towards the darkness that kept causing Lucius so much grief. "I am going....you can come with me if you wish it....I leave that to your will..."

Already, the young woman was crouched in front of an oak chest at the foot of her bed. Once the lid was open, she pulled out her usual scarlet coat, her sawn-off firearm, and her pack. Through the reflection of the large mirror, it appeared that she had kept the Soul-Sealing Staff from so long ago. Either she's a bit of a pack rat or she knows that such a thing is difficult to come by. The chest was soon locked and Shenorai stood up, pulling on her coat and fastening the holster holding her shotgun to her leg.

"Damn right I'm going," she replied, the hopelessness in her eyes replaced by the sheer will to find the young lord's twin. "I'd follow Lucius to the Other Side, if I have to."

She crossed the room over to the end table and easily plucked up the letter and envelope, tucking the paper into an inner coat pocket before buttoning it up. Seemed like she intended to keep the contents of the letter between herself and the Silverwing brothers.

In the mirror, the ghostly warrior's lips were moving, though it seemed that only Shen could hear her. Whatever she said, it made the bounty hunter smile at the reflection before glancing over at Julius.

"I'm ready when you are."

"Very well." Julius headed towards the door to exit the room and suddenly stood silently before it. "We will depart at tomorrow noon, get ready because it will be a long journey on foot, at least until we can find other means of transportation." Julius reached the doorknob with his right hand and opened the door, then he left the room and the door slowly closed behind him.

Vesmor knew it was time to head north. He walked out the room and ran right into Julius. bumping into him.

"Excussse Me, Human!"

He saw who it was and said, "Sssorrry Lorrrd Juliusss. Didnt sssee you. I gotta head norrrth forrr a while."

Seeing he was preparing for something.

"Where arrre you going?"

The bangaa leaned down towards Julius for the answer.

"We are heading to the north, to the Kingdom of Arnazil, my cousin Aiden Zeres Silverwing's domain, to find out some information on my brother's whereabouts."

Julius slowed down as he headed towards the central hall of the KOTR Stronghold, and finally stopped before a marvelously crafted fountain, with water as pure as crystal, and statues of dragons, angels and elves all around and on the center of it. Julius then approached the edge of the fountain and sat on it, staring for a little while to his own reflection on the surface of the water.

Vesmor followed Julius to the fountain. Vesmor stayed standing.

"I am going the sssame way." He looks down at his clenched hand.

"Forrr SSSome prrivvvate ssstuff. Dont mind if I join you on the trrrip up therrre?"

Vesmor looks at Julius.

Julius didn't answered, his mind was caught by the sparkling lights on the surface of the water. The moment was so quiet that even silence could be heard, though that seemingly eternal peace was disrupted by Julius' answer to Vesmor's previous question. With a calmed tone, Julius answered: "Yes, you may. Oh well, is becoming quite late, I am off to my bed. Good Night..."

And so Julius bid farewell to this newly met friend, and he went to his own chambers to rest for tomorrow's voyage.

Vesmor didnt need much sleep so he stayed a much while longer.

Having his mind wander on past memories and going north.

He to soon went to bed.

Dawn seemed to take all of her sweet time to finally return to these lands. As the sun peeked over the horizon, the cloud-streaked sky was painted in dazzling crimson hues. The city was bathed in the scarlet rays of the morning, piercing through every crack between the curtains and casting the exposed rooms in its cold light.

The sunlight basked upon the wooden floorboards of Shenorai's room, slowly creeping towards the bed. She lay awake, staring up at the ceiling in deep thought. It wasn't that she didn't get to sleep; she just couldn't stay asleep.
Not that this was a first. Ever since Lucius had disappeared, Shen's sleep cycle had been disrupted by her worry for him.

"...how close do you think he is to the temple?" she asked her ghost softly.
Closer than we are, that's for certain.
"...mm...at least Julius knew what the letter was talking about. I wouldn't have known where to go."

Shenorai sat up in bed, taking a glance at the window. Despite having curtains of black velvet, the sun still managed to seep through. Ignoring the clock beside her bed, she stood up and began going through her usual routine.

Shen, it's seven in the morning.

"So?" she retorted, making the bed.
You don't have to meet Julius until noon.
"Nothing wrong with being early."
...that's in five hours, silly. Hope you have something to do in the meantime.
"I'll find something. Can't really fall back asleep, so I might as well do something."
Suit yourself. At least get some breakfast before you leave this time.

Given a mere half hour to freshen up and prepare everything, Shenorai soon emerged from her room with her coat and pack, locking the door. For both breakfast and to see if anyone else was up yet, she silently strode down the hall in the direction of the dining hall.

Three hours before 7:00 AM...

Several hours after he bid farewell to Shenorai and left to his room, Julius kept trying to rest but couldn't, his heart was wrecked by guilt. He couldn't forgive himself how he kept failing trial after trial, not being even able to save those close to him and redeem Lucius' once tarnished soul now a tormented and silent spirit. After trying to sleep an hour later, Julius decided to wander aimlessly through the KOTR Stronghold. His thoughts lost between past and present, Julius never noticed that his feet had brought him to Shenorai's room and, as soon as he realized, Julius turned away from the door and headed towards the garden. It was still dark, with scattered clouds across the silent sky, the wind couldn't not be felt, only the cold, harshness of the night embraced Julius' body and soul. Half an hour from that, the first bright rays of sun could be seen coming from the East, high above the Mirthlin Mountains. In mere seconds the sun was more and more visible, as if it were like a shining warrior vanquishing the proud night.

"I got so far...just to give up like this?"

Vesmor was ready and packed. So he decided to perch on the castle and watch the sunrise.

-----------------

Vesmor was perched on the castle wall. Looking out over the landscape and thinking of the upcoming journey north. Vesmor breathed in deeply the morning air.

He looked down and saw Julius in the garden.

"I got so far...just to give up like this?"

Once he heard him say that he leaped down behind Julius.

He laughed at Julius.

"Giving up ssso easssily. I thought you werrre not like all humansss, Lorrrd Juliusss." Vesmor said mockingly.

Julius smirked, but soon he remained silent once again. The sun was already burning bright above the heavens, and clouds scattered across the skies as if to diminish the divine rays of the sun. The morning due could be seen on the leaves, the grass, a gentle breeze came from the south. The air blew some feathers and leaves away, as if they were playing a synchronous game of elegance.
"You might be right my friend.....but when one loses faith then even the bravest of warriors may have his or her will, shattered...Though, this is not the time to give up. Thank you for helping me remember."

"...but I don't feel like it," a soft voice echoed from the nearby hallway. "... 'cause I don't want to. ...... How in the world could you be in the mood to sing before we leave?"

The owner of the voice appeared to be having a quiet conversation with herself. Alone, Shenorai strode down the hall and crossed the far end of the garden. Either she's insane or she was just obsessed into her own thoughts, for she did not notice Julius and his reptilian ally.

At least, not at first.

The young bounty hunter stopped in her tracks and glanced over at the two of them. At first, she tensed up at the thought that Julius was being attacked by the overgrown lizard. Though, once she realized it showed no hostility, she calmed herself down and approached the two of them.

"Good morning, Julius," she greeted, though without much joy in her tone.

"Good Morning Shenorai, I see you woke up earlier." Julius replied with a gentle tone. The man turned away from the fountain located in the very center of the garden, and faced Shenorai, his sight fixed on the purple light of her eyes. The day was young anew, with each passing sunrise and sunset a new cycle of life and death, light and darkness began with each passing day. The softness of the air caressed Julius' face, and it smoothly made his cape wave.

"Just a few hours before noon....so should get ready and get some breakfast."

"Not a bad idea," she replied with a nod.

Her eyes couldn't help but dart over at the Bangaa every few minutes. Shen couldn't even remember when he joined the Round. She's never seen him before today, hence her reason for being so tense upon seeing him.

"...and who would this be?" she asked. Though it took some effort, she managed to keep the word 'pet' behind closed lips.

Vesmor watched as Julius made some conversation with a young human who came up.

Vesmor turned towards the woman. Having heard Julius use her name he knew hers. He saw she was uneasy with his presence.

"I am Grrrand Drrragoon Vesssmor, Lady Ssshenorrrai.." Vesmor said to Shenorai.

He crosses his arms.

"Ah," was her only reply.
Huh...didn't know there were still dragoons around, the ghost noted. I haven't seen a dragoon in ages.

A smirk cracked her lips just a bit at the ghost's comment. Though to those who are unaware of the paranormal, it would appear that her smirk was a sarcastically amused one showing that she wasn't taking the Bangaa seriously.

"Well Julius and...Vesmor, was it? It was nice meeting you...but we need to get something to eat before we leave."
