Multiple Platforms Mortal Kombat

...At first I expected Kenshi to be playable. He's one of the few characters from the recent games that I like. But at the least this does still means that he may come later as a DLC character. The possibility of him coming back is there, especially since he is one of the fighters in the background of the Pit stage.

This week’s Mortal Monday has seen the release of a sixth shadow wallpaper on the official Mortal Kombat Facebook page. While many thought Shao Kahn would be next, we were surprised to find that the next kombatant was indeed the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung himself.

Resembling his aged appearance from Mortal Kombat in this wallpaper, Shang Tsung can be seen tearing the soul out from the very core of his opponent, a trademark move he has over the years become well known for.

Be sure to check out our
Wallpaper section, which contains all previous wallpapers released for Mortal Kombat (2011), as well as those from a number of previous titles.

Rumour: Mortal Kombat roster image leaked

An off-screen image purported to represent Mortal Kombat’s full and final roster has appeared online.

The image was posted to NeoGaf. Check it out below.
The pictured characters are, from left to right, top to bottom: S
corpion; Liu Kang; Kung Lao; Sub-Zero; Sindel; Ermac; Reptile; Kitana; Johnny Cage; Jade; Mileena; Nightwolf; Cyrax; Noob Saibot; Smoke; Sektor; Sonya; Jax; Kano; Stryker; Shang Tsung; Baraka; Kabal; Raiden.
The bottom row shows two generic images, with Sheeva and Quan Chi in the middle. A strangely-costumed Sub Zero and Quan Chi are shown as selected
.

Nethrrealm has confirmed two DLC characters as well as the PlayStation 3 exclusive Kratos, although there doesn’t seem to be room for the latter in this PS3 screen
We asked Warner Bros. for comment, but were told it won’t comment on rumour. Mortal Kombat releases on PS3 and Xbox 360 next month.
Thanks, Kotaku.

Mortal Kombat to feature DLC characters

Two DLC characters have been confirmed for Mortal Kombat: Kenshi and Scarlet. If the latter isn’t familiar to you, you’d better hit the books, son.

20110328mk.jpg

While Kenshi, who debuted in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, is a familiar face, Scarlet is a little more fringe.
“Anyone who knows the history of Mortal Kombat will tell you that back in the days of the arcade – when they did just palette swap characters to come up with multiple fighters in the game – there was a glitch in one of the old arcade machines that caused the Jade/Katana/Milena female ninja to glitch and turn red,” producer Hans Lo told CVG.
“People always thought it was a hidden unlockable character and it wasn’t, it was purely a programming glitch. They’ve always speculated and in fact it was the fans who named her Scarlet to begin with. She’s no longer a glitch – she’s an actual character, and she’ll be coming pretty soon post-launch.”
Lo said that Netherrealm had planned for fully fledged DLC packages.
“They won’t be copy and pasted from characters already in the game – they’re going to have their own unique fighting styles, moves, fatalities and x-rays – all the good stuff,” he said.
A Gamepro scan obtained by Hadoken initially suggested a third DLC character, four armed boss Kintaro, but producer Hector Sanchez is reported to have tweeted that the information is incorrect.
Series creator Ed Boon is said to have commented that none of the DLC characters will be included on the game’s disc.
Mortal Kombat is due on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in mid April.
Thanks, Joystiq.

Warner Bros. may be following in the (very large) footsteps of Electronic Arts and THQ when it comes to discouraging -- or at least profiting from -- the sale of used games. Joystiq has learned from a tipster that when Mortal Kombat hits shelves on April 19, its box will include an "online pass" token that must be redeemed before playing online. At present, WBIE evidently intends to do the same for its high-profile releases F.E.A.R. 3 and Batman: Arkham City. Since the latter won't feature multiplayer, though, the token would have to unlock some other (equally attractive) content.

According to an email obtained from our source, which appears intended for retailers, WBIE won't be promoting the pass -- in fact, no reference to it will appear on the game's packaging. Instead, it is apparently providing retailers with details on the pass, including how to purchase a new one if you're buying a used copy of the game. Unsurprisingly, a new pass will run 800 Microsoft Points / $10 for Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively. As with EA's titles, there will be a free two-day "trial period" before players are prompted to either enter the code or purchase a pass. We've contacted WBIE for comment on this information. You can find an excerpt from the retailer email past the break.

Mortal Kombat, available on April 19 for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, includes a one-time-use registration code that gives players access to all online modes in the game. Players who do not have a code will get a free two-day trial of the online play and then be able to purchase the online modes for 800 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and $9.99 on the PlayStation Network.

Update#1
Johnny Cage
: he is certainly well-known for his self absorbed and often irritating personality. While most kombatants in the Mortal Kombat tournament fight for honour, salvation or ultimate power, Johnny Cage sees the incoming battle as nothing more than an opportunity to advance his waning acting career.

Fatality Friday, this week falling on April Fools’ Day, has seen the introduction of a hilarious trailer titled Fight Dirty!, the first of its kind featuring the aforementioned ‘superstar’.

Formatted to resemble a movie trailer, the clip shows off a number of cutscenes from Mortal Kombat (2011)’s Story Mode, all intertwined with new gameplay footage. Fans will also catch their first glimpse of Shang Tsung’s Flesh Pit arena in action.

Update#2
Earlier today a video surfaced on YouTube showing a group of Mortal Kombat fans playing what seemed to be a near final version of Mortal Kombat (2011), despite the game still being weeks away from release. Filmed using a handheld camera, the clip sees Sub-Zero do battle with Shang Tsung in the Hell arena.

Interestingly, a series of six Mortal Kombat logos appear below the loading bar, which bear a striking resemblance to the Kombat Kode system made popular during the eras of Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat 4. Is the once-famous Kombat Kode system making a return for Mortal Kombat (2011)?

If Sub-Zero is a fucking robot in the new MK, then I'm never going to play Mortal Kombat again. Sub-Zero is badass enough without having to be a robot. Seriously, that would be the dumbest idea and would drain all faith I would have in the MK franchise.

Actually as you know the original subzero died anyways by the resurrected scorpion, but before they tried to turn the best ninjas of his clan to cyborgs. This is the result.

I think its cool, we have the real zubzero (Noob Saibot) Zubzero's brother and the real zubzero in cyborg xersion.

Zubzero used to be one of my favourites, but in the demo Zubzero's brother is too slow for my taste. I like to think the developers did it on purpose since IMO the real Zubzero is the most badass char. Hence I will stick to Noob Saibot and hopefully Cyborg SubZero will kick ass as well. :griin:

Well considering that plot-wise this is a MK game from the MK1-3 era in an alternate world, a lot can happen to the plot now without it conflicting with the older games. I really don't have much of a problem with that version of Sub-Zero. I'll probably never use him though. I've never been much of a Sub-Zero user

Exactly a week after the release of the Shang Tsung shadow wallpaper comes another backdrop featuring the evil sorcerer, this time fully visible in his alternate attire.

Performing a similar soul-stealing Fatality as the previous image, Shang Tsung can be seen brutally tearing the life force from his opponent’s mouth. Looking more powerful than ever before, his older form is a subtle but superb re-invention of his original appearance in the first Mortal Kombat.

Meh. Can't really say I've cared much for Shang Tsung. An evil bastard yes but gameplay wise I've never really used him much. On another note; less than 2 weeks until the game officially comes out. Again I can't wait. :x3: I've enjoyed the demo quite a bit, now I am ready for the real thing.

GameSpot have this morning exclusively revealed another vignette from Mortal Kombat (2011) focusing on the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung.

Using limited magical abilities, Shang Tsung discovered the realm of Outworld, where he pledged his life to Shao Kahn in return for enhanced power. Magically bound to the dark emperor, he’s played host to the last nine Mortal Kombat tournaments, each time stacking the odds in favour of his master. For centuries, this treacherous sorcerer has submissively done Shao Kahn’s bidding. Whether his forces
win or fail, his fate has been written in blood.

Finishing his opponent with a gruesome possessive-type Fatality, the video also exhibits his alternate costume: a less frail version of his original Mortal Kombat semblance. It also confirms what is believed to be the return of Shang Tsung’s morphing ability, although it seems to be limited to his opponent’s being only.

Update#1

NetherRealm Studios’ official Mortal Kombat YouTube channel was recently updated with three new behind-the-scenes videos of the women who have been portraying some of the franchise’s best known beauties at various European events.

The curvaceous women portray Kitana, Mileena and Sonya, with highly detailed costumes taken directly from Mortal Kombat (2011). The trios’ next appearance will be at the Mortal Kombat pan-European tournament final, to be held at The Gadget Show on Sunday April 17 at Birmingham’s NEC Centre, UK.

Update#2

With the release of Mortal Kombat (2011) less than a fortnight away, media of all sorts is flowing in thick and fast. Today is no different, with the introduction of a Nightwolf gameplay trailer.

Regarded by many as one of the more powerful kombatants present in last year’s E3 build, the video shows off a few of his special moves, as well as some examples of combos strung together with the help of a tag-team partner.

1. I wonder if that will really be Shang Tsung's fatality. If so then I have to admit I am disappointed. It is basically Liu Kang's fatality from Deception all over again. Sure you could say that Shang Tsung originally had it in MK2 but still I wish it was a bit different.

2. Those are some hot cosplays! :ohoho:

3. Nightwolf has always been an interesting character in my opinion, even though I can't use him well. Maybe I'll use him more when the game comes out.

Just a week away now! I can't wait!

I would vote for Mileena hands down, even the music is perfect. Str8 hotness. I wont bother checking out the other vids.I just want to play the freeking game already. I cant wait.

NetherRealm Studios have tonight unleashed what is to be the final gameplay trailer before the eagerly anticipated launch of Mortal Kombat (2011) later next week.

Focusing on none-other than Shang Tsung himself, the trailer meshes together a few story mode clips with a ton of gameplay footage showcasing the evil sorcerer’s deadly arsenal of moves, including perhaps the best X-ray seen thus far.

I would so vote for Sonya Blade, just because she's been a favourite of mine since little, because she's always been the 'tough girl' fighting in a male dominated tournament. However I think that Mileena, did it best. She looks just like the original character, she makes Mileena seem really realistic. I'm angry that you can't stare and vote for some hot and sexy Mortal Kombat male cosplays, though. I've always had the hots for Liu Kang. :rage:

And what the hell did they do to Sonya's outfit ? It just BOOBS now. :rage: Sonya is meant to be a tough and tomboyish girl, not some playboy bunny. :jtc:

Well who got this game already? Is it worth the 60 bucks? My paycheck hasnt been deposited on the bank yet..so....maybe in a few hours..but I am really curious who got it already and please tell me is it really worth full price?

I know it's silly, but as soon as I saw some of the story cut scenes, I suddenly got excited for the damn thing. I'm glad they're taking this thing to a more seriously light, although it is still Mortal Kombat. I guess it's what the fans always wanted.

NetherRealm Studios have pushed out a new video titled Brutal Justice, which concentrates on the infamous S.W.A.T. officer Stryker.

Featuring a number of clips from the game’s Story mode, the trailer shows off some of his complex combos and showcases his deadly arsenal of weapons.

http://www.kamidogu.com/

Ask for your question Ohri-Jin, I haven't bought the game yet so I can't tell you if it is worth the money or not.

Muwhahahaha that new vid with Stryker is freeking funny.. his tazer!!! muwhahaha..
Also the xray moves actually shows three times bones?:O awesome !! xD :giggle:

After playing Street Fighter IV for the 3DS, which is pretty fantastic, I'm hoping they port this to the console, as well. Imagine, fatalities in 3D. It would be glorious.
