Multiple Platforms Mortal Kombat

After playing Street Fighter IV for the 3DS, which is pretty fantastic, I'm hoping they port this to the console, as well. Imagine, fatalities in 3D. It would be glorious.

? This is a console title..this is not the 3DS section :lew:

Uhh... this is the Mortal Kombat thread, and I'm talking about Mortal Kombat. Would it really make much sense for me to start up a thread about a potential port that probably won't exist in the 3DS section (Which this site doesn't have), in addition to considering the fact that Mortal Kombat is a multiple-platform game? Or, would it make far more sense to just bring up the idea in the already-existing Mortal Kombat general discussion thread in the multi-platform section ("Multi-platform" referring to titles spanning consoles from the PS3 to the 360 to, yes, possibly the 3DS (In SFIV's case, for example))?

Oh my bad I misread your post..you want MK to be ported on the 3ds ..I thought MK ported on a console.. My bad :P

Console-> Handheld.... thats why I got confused....sorry bro...

Yeah, when I said "ported to the console," I was referring to the console I mentioned (The 3DS).

:lew: Brutal Justice.

The game is so worth the price and I haven't even played online yet. You got your standard Ladder gauntlet, Story Mode, and Challenge Tower.

Story Mode is awesome and I don't say that very often about fighting games. Just remember that as you play Story Mode that it's a reboot of the series so nothing will be the same. It's about 10 hours or so spanning from MK1-MK3. Be prepared for using characters you may have never used much before and quite a few endurance matches as well.

Challenge Tower is pretty fun so far as well. There are some pretty interesting stipulations going on there. There are even some funny conversations going on between the characters too like Kabal trying to hit on Sonya for example. I've completed about 75 floors so far and I am going to try to finish all 300 floors. Although Test Your Strike is a pain.

...like Kabal trying to hit on Sonya for example.

Sonya :britt:

Soooo excited about getting this for my birthday, I can't wait. I must be the only girl on this thread :gasp:

I've always been a fan of MK though...since the original movies even.

Ohh and I looked up the game on Amazon and its getting a 4 1/2 star rating so far, so it must be good :monster: I like how they are incorporating more than just the story into the game, like the battle tower and etc... I was figuring it might be a game with a short story that you plow through pretty quickly and it might have little replay value...but I'm hearing good things.

And yes Mel you get to play as Sonya in Story Mode for a bit. There are 16 chapters and during each chapter you control one character, once that chapter is finished you move onto the next chapter.

So far the only flaws that the game has that I don't like is

1. You have to unlock everyone's 2nd Fatality in the Krypt. Not a major flaw for me but finding character's fatalities are a pain with so many coffins to go through.

2. MK's online is like EA now. You need an online pass to play online now. Again not a major flaw for me since I got mine new but I am just throwing this out to anyone else who wants this game. If you want to buy the game and play it online, buy it NEW.

With the PS3 version of ‘Mortal Kombat’ getting Kratos as an exclusive character, what will Xbox 360 owners get? If this story has any truth to it, quite a bit.
Mortal-Kombat-360-Exclusive-Rumor.jpg

The latest Mortal Kombat title is just over a week away from release and anticipation is at its highest. With everything that’s been revealed so far, and with plenty of secrets still unknown, fans just can’t wait to get their hands on 9th iteration of the classic fighting franchise.

PS3 owners may be a tad more excited, due to their version having the exclusive character Kratos from the God Of War series. Since the Kratos’ initial announcement, Xbox 360 owners have been wondering what they’ll get instead. Possibly a number of things, if this latest rumor is true.

While it was initially rumored that the DC superhero Green Lantern was going to be the exclusive to the Xbox 360, that strange story didn’t go over that well for mans and made little sense for Warner Bros. Interactive. Instead, it now appears that 360 owners may be getting a number of other things instead of an exclusive character. The story talks about the following additions:

  • Puzzle Kombat, a mode which was first seen in Mortal Kombat Deception. It played out much like Tetris Attack, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, or anything like that. Of course, it had a Mortal Kombat flair to it, killing off your opponent once you won.
  • The Pit 360, which is supposed to be a remastered version of the Pit 3 stage from Mortal Kombat 3.
  • Avatar support for King Of The Hill mode.
  • The “Lady In Red” DLC character would be free for download for 360 users for a limited time.
  • Exclusive avatar gear would be available, for a price, of course.
While it should be noted that these are rumors, a couple of points stand out. One, NetherRealm Studios recently added a notice to their forums, saying that they were aware people were discussing news items that had yet to be officially announced. This could really go either way in terms of a debate, as it could mean people had caught onto something that was going to happen, or were just talking about stories they had heard.

The other thing was an image that was recently released onto the internet. The image is from an event held by NetherRealm Studios, which had an extended version of the Kombat Kontinues trailer seen at the end of the demo. The trailer showed off the aforementioned King Of The Hill mode, and a number of avatar-looking figures were seen at the bottom.

Do you think this has any merit? If so, does this make up for the lack of an exclusive character for 360 owners?
Mortal Kombat is on its way for the Xbox 360 and PS3 on April 19, 2011 in North America, with everyone else getting it April 21, 2011.

So, I've always been a MK fan since it came out. I am just worried about this game. Is it worth my money to buy or should I wait for prices to drop? I really want it but I am not sure if it's like the other recent games in the series. I've seen some of the gameplay and the features I just don't want to get bored with it and I'm stuck with money down the drain.

I was in the same boat as you are...wondering if this game is really worth the hype/money...and I've waited it out and I ended up getting off of Amazon.com a few days ago. I paid $49.99 for it which is still $10.00 cheaper than pretty much everywhere else. The week before that it was $39.99...but I didn't have the money at the time. So if you do online shopping check Amazon from time to time and you can probably end up getting it for $20.00 cheaper than everywhere else if you keep watching the site :monster:

...and I've heard the storyline is pretty long for a fighting game...and that there are side things to do like the battle tower in addition to the story...if that helps your decision on whether to buy it or not :monster:

I do not know much about the new Mortal Kombat and I liked the older games much better and I thought Armageddon was pretty mediocre. I might pick this up sometime just so I can fight one of my friends here online :griin:. If I recall I used Kitana Quite a bit.. during my time I played anyway.

Pretty much what she said. If you've played the demo then you have a good idea of what the gameplay is like. If online is a big deal for you then if you want the PS3 version just wait until PSN comes back up. Just make sure you buy a new game because you won't be able to play the game online if you buy it used.

After months of rumours and conjecture comes official confirmation that Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection exists. The game will be released digitally for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in late Summer 2011 (late Winter for those in the southern hemisphere).

The news was first revealed only minutes ago by Warner Bros.’ UK division on Twitter:
Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection takes gamers back to the arcades! Iconic arcade games will be available on XBLA, PSN & PC #mortalkombat

Kamidogu
has since obtained an official press release from Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios detailing what fans can expect in a few months’ time:
Burbank, Calif. – May 12, 2011 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announces Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection for PlayStation® Network, Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC. For the first time ever, the original Mortal Kombat arcade trilogy—Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3—have been brought together into a single collection which will be available for download in late summer 2011.

“We are very excited to finally have the first three Mortal Kombat games available in one download package for long-time and new fans to play,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. “With the release of our 2011 Mortal Kombat, and its return to 2D game play, players have been asking for these classic titles and we are happy to deliver them.”

Developed by Other Ocean in conjunction with NetherRealm studios, the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection will offer fans the chance to play through the games in their original arcade state and rediscover all their favorite characters, fatalities and environments as well as relive some of the franchise’s most memorable secrets. In addition, this new collection will feature online play, leaderboards, achievements and trophies.

An arcade-perfect port, the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection brings players their favorite Mortal Kombat arcade classics for $9.99 on PlayStation Network or 800 Microsoft Points, to put it in arcade terms—40 quarters ($10).

To help players create an arcade experience at home, GameStop will exclusively offer a limited run of the new Mortal Kombat™ Klassic Fight Sticks designed and manufactured by Performance Designed Products (“PDP”), creators of the sold-out Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition Fight Sticks, bundled with a code to download Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection. Both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the Mortal Kombat™ Klassic Fight Sticks are available for pre-order now for $129.99 at www.gamestop.com.

For more information about Mortal Kombat, please visit www.themortalkombat.com, on Facebook at www.facebook.com/mortalkombat or on Twitter @MK_MortalKombat.

I see. That's not a bad deal for $10 considering you get all 3 games in one.
Although I still have MK2 on PSN and UMK3 on XBL I'd probably still buy it. Trophy support + hopefully a more active online community should make this much more worth it. It's good to know they haven't completely forgotten about the game and what a good way to release it, right after MK comes out.
Though I am still hoping Trilogy comes out one day for PSN/XBL.

Old school arcade Mortal Kombat :gonk:

I realllllllly want those games...and like Al said $10.00 is a pretty good deal for three games. Its going to be weird going back to them after having played the newest one :gasp:

I'll have to keep an eye out for them. I'm nervous about using the psn again...but I'm not giving them my new cc info...I'll just get the cards like people do. This might be too good to pass up :britt:

Thanks for the update, Spawn.

Mortal Kombat DLC And Patch Coming Soon

Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat, released some new details today regarding MK9 DLC. It sounds like a few problems that we mentioned are going to be addressed very soon. An exact date was not provided.

According to Boon, Skarlet will be available as a playable character within the month. It was also teased that there will be some “free stuff” included. In addition to that, certain characters will receive balance tweaks to go along with the new content. Thankfully, NetherRealm Studios is actually going to release patch notes this time around on the official MK website. It’s nice to know that the developers are listening to some of our concerns.

If you aren’t aware, today is day one of the official PDP Mortal Kombat 9 National Tournament in Las Vegas. The prize pool for the tournament is a whopping $21,000 for the top 8 competitors. The first place winner will go home with $10,000. The entire event is being live streamed by Team Spooky. Be sure to check it out if you want to see some high level Mortal Kombat action.

Experience the Mortal Kombat Tournament Live Right Here!

Today, starting at noon PST, is the first national Mortal Kombat tournament at the Bally's Hotel and Casino in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada. With a $10,000 grand prize sponsored by PDP (the creators of the offical MK tournament edition fight stick), it's attracting pros from all over the world. Also, I'll be there, probably losing in the first round (but hopefully not).

To make YOU feel like you're there, too, I'm doin' a live Tweetstravangza of the event right here, in this very post, all weekend. I know it's no live video stream or anything, but I am but one man, doing the best that he can. I'll try to keep you entertained with a barrage of tweets throughout the weekend, so you can keep your eye on this post starting, well... now, or you can simply follow TheGameLlama on Twitter to see one man's triumphs and failures followed by crying and/or insults. It'll be going all weekend; at least, that's the plan. Also, @MK_MortalKombat is the official Mortal Kombat Twitter, if you were interested.

Anyway, back to me:

It looks like teamsp00ky is also doing a live stream of the event over on justin.tv, but I'm pretty sure that's a G4TV thing. Well... I'm embedding it below anyway. My duty is to the readers! Don't be mad when they're not as cool as I am, however. Oh, and they don't start streaming 'til noon, so don't bad mad that it doesn't work yet.

There ya go - more Mortal Kombat tournament coverage than you can shake a stick at (with tales of my experiences and extra stuff later, too!). The tourney will be going from noon-8:00 PST tonight and the semi-finals and finals start tomorrow at noon PST. Who are YOU rooting for?

Update#1

NetherRealm Studios head and Mortal Kombat co-creator ko-kreator Ed Boon has revealed via his Twitter feed that all of the retailer-specific pre-order DLC released for the series' ninth installment will soon be made available as one downloadable, for-pay kollection. "The 7 Klassic outfits & 3 Klassic fatalities that were retailer exclusives will be bundled into one DLC package," Boon writes. "Trailer coming on Friday."

For those who haven't been keeping tabs on said content, it includes "classic" variants of Ermac, Jade, Kitana, Mileena, Reptile, Scorpion and Sub-Zero, along with additional fatalities for Reptile, Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Hopefully Friday's trailer will be accompanied by a date and price, so we can note it on our kalendars and put aside some kash.

For future reference Spawn I'm pretty sure it's okay to occasionally double post since you're posting news and it's pretty important to the topic. You need to bump it up somehow so others can see it. ;)

On topic, yay for DLC! Klassic Kostumes and Skarlet galore <3 Skarlet looks like she'll be an interesting character to play as. I'm curious about what her backstory will be like. Considering blood seems to be a major part of her similar to how Noob's is shadows and Scorpion's is fire, I am going to guess she's also from the Netherealm.

Update#1

Rain all but confirmed as Mortal Kombat DLC character

Rainmka.png

Ed Boon has been dropping hints like crazy on what might be in the Mortal Kombat DLC. Long story short? Rain's pretty much confirmed.

You know - Rain.

Not only did Ed fire off this tweet yesterday:
RT @Kwisted @noobde ANNOUNCE RAIN PLEASE! Noobde: Announcing.... RAIN!
He's also just posted these tweets:
I never meant to cause you any sorrow. I never meant to cause you any pain. I only wanted one time to see you laughing. I only want to see you laughing in the purple..."
Those are the lyrics to Jimi Hendrix's Purple Rain. The final word, after 'purple...', is Rain.

You know - Rain.

Looks like he's in, then.

Mortal Kombat Season Pass Announced

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios have announced the Mortal Kombat Season Pass which will offer Mortal Kombat fans an added incentive to buy all four new Add-on warriors at one time for a reduced price instead of when purchasing them individually. The first Mortal Kombat downloadable warrior, Skarlet, will be available for download starting June 21st and will be followed by Kenshi, Rain, and an unannounced new entrant to the Mortal Kombat tournament! Each warrior will come with a full move set, a ladder arcade story ending and two fatalities.

Available for purchase starting June 21st, the Mortal Kombat Season Pass will allow users to buy all four downloadable warriors as a package for 1200 Microsoft points. Each individual warrior can be purchased when they release for 400 Microsoft points. Each warrior will become unlocked for download as they become available throughout the summer.
Further, in order to allow for seamless online play with the new downloadable warriors, free compatibility packs will be required to download with the release of each new warrior. As an added incentive, each compatibility pack will come with two FREE klassic skins – the first of which are being released with Skarlet will be Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 inspired Cyrax and Sektor.

Gamers who purchase the Mortal Kombat Season Pass (or individual Add-on content) will automatically get the free klassic skins when they download each warrior. Those who do not purchase the Mortal Kombat Season Pass or the Add-ons, will be able to download the compatibility packs for free and have access to the klassic skins as well.

Please note: The Mortal Kombat Season Pass is only available for purchase on Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE. PlayStation users will also have full access to the individual DLC warriors (for $4.99), the compatibility packs, and the FREE klassic skins.
