But the FF games don't usually have equal numbers of male and female playable characters - in fact all of them from FFIV/FFV through to FFXII have three female characters in the main cast (excluding any temporary characters like Beatrix). And in FFIX there is Freya/Eiko/Garnet. I think they deliberately give Quina male and female characteristics, and as said the game mechanics sometimes suggest Quina is male, and sometimes female. So it's all deliberately ambiguous.
