I actually voted other accidently. If you ask me, Red XIII looks a whole lot like a big hyena, and hyenas are of the canine family.
 
He does look like a hyena.
But I've never seen a dog with paws like that. O_O
 
I think hes more like a wolf, with his tail and large paws. Plus i don't know any cats that fight with they're teeth instead of paws (like his limit break)
 
He's more like canine-like to me...like a wolf because he howls. And plus by the look of it...well, kinda.
 
Mitsuki has hit the nail on the head. He howls, thus canine but he does look feline as well... doh.

I think he has visual qualities from both but If you ask me, he just "feels" canine, like a wise old wolf. God bless him whatever he is!
 
And don't large cats have fangs?
As well as manes?
As well as extra long tails?
 
i think he's definitly a dog like creature... he doesn't have claws but paws... that tells a lot, also the way he runs is dog like, not cat like, a dog moves their whole body while cats move their back more

the head also looks very dog like, so i'd say... definitly a dog
