Religious Beliefs

I'm agnostic. I try not to get involved with religious discussions, because I don't know exactly what I should be in. It's like politics. I can't decide who the heck I'm going to vote for when I'm old enough.

I actually would not be half surprised if that username was banned on a forum. I mean, wouldn't it seem a bit odd if I came to a catholic forum with the username "God"? Impersonating a religious deity, which includes Jesus... well, it tends to upset people.

I'm not sure I get what you mean. You wouldn't be suprised if I was banned from a forum because of this username? Why? First of all, I have never set virtual foot in any religious forum at all. Is this forum catholic? Should I leave?

And even if this was a catholic final fantasy forum (which I'm sure it isn't), people go on forums about Final Fantasy all the time and call themselves "Rinoa" or "Tidus" or even "Sephiroth". Why is this okay? Especially considering some people in this forum apparently worship Sephy as a god. ;)

Probably because it's not serious. I suppose that depends on the religion you're looking at. We know that when you come to the forums and post with a username of "Jesus Christ", we know you're not really Jesus Christ, and you don't make any posts that indicate that you're trying to impersonate him. You're just someone who likes to have that name as a username. Just as I choose to have a username like Sephiroth, but everyone should know that I'm not really Sephiroth, and nor do I pretend to be that character. In the Jewish religion, it's not considered polite to call on their god's name because it's too sacred.

Plenty of people use a characters name on this forum and it is mostly seen as just another way to show support for that character.

Though I myself would much rather see no one with the name Sephiroth. I can accept the fact that someone uses it and I am glad that person is doing it out of respect to the character.

Its amsing to me how my prefrence towards the name Sephiroth is much like the Jews. I would much rather no one use the name Sephiroth as I think its insulting that someone thinks they are worthy of it.

hmm and not a single direct refrence to Angelus lol.

I am a Buddhist, I Beleive in Karma, the law of cause and effect, and Reincarnation. I beleive that through mediation I will reach a state of mind beyond anything that anybody can comprehend, and that I will reach a state of Nirvana. I do beleive that there was once a Jesus, though I do not beleive that he was God on earth. What I mean by that, is that I don't think Jesus had any special powers or anything, I just believe that he was a good person. I'm not sure If I believe in a God or not, I lean towards Evolution more. Furthermore, I am very open minded and believe that not only 1 relegion teaches the way to eternal happiness, everybody has their own way to seek faith. I do not believe in Heaven and Hell, or any of the other completely farfetched stories the Bible has to offer.

Ah! A man after my own heart. ^_^

Were I to force myself into 'classifying' my beliefs, I would say that I am a Kabbalistic Buddhist. Strange? Perhaps, but not entirely without reason.

For a long time I've considered myself a Buddhist. A very logical approach to spirituality that, to me, makes sense. Of course, it also says something about it that no war in the world has ever been made in the name of the Buddha. ^_^

The Four Noble Truths, The Eightfold Path, The Three Jewels, the nature of suffering, Reincarnation, Karma ... it all makes perfect sense to me.

But I always felt that Buddhism was missing just a little something. Just a little flicker of doubt in my mind ...

I've been studying religions on a personal basis for years now, cross-examining and cross-referencing many different religions. And one day, to my astonishment, I found that many religions share very similar views on the nature of God, for example. Cross-reference the Buddhist definition of Nirvana, the description of the Tao in Taoism and the idea of God as described by John in the Bible and you'll be very suprised.

I realised that all religions contain 'truths' as well as aspects that were not so. They are all, as it were, pieces of the giant spiritual puzzle that got broken up years and years ago. So, in an effort to understand the viewpoints of many different religions, and to work on myself towards a higher spiritual understanding, I started delving deep into religion -- all of them.

To cut a long story short, I found the Kabbalah, an ancient Jewish mystical system, and found that it sort of 'completed' my spiritual view of the world. The missing link had been found.

If you want to find more on Kabbalah you can always check out wiki. ^_^

What are your religious beliefs? Do you have any? Do you disbelieve in religion?

Please, don't say anything offensive. Not only is it rule breaking, it's hurting someone, somewhere. Also, it doesn't contribute productively :P

myself, i have no religion... i used to believe in christ, not it's gone, it doesn't make any sense to me... Jezus was indeed a prophet, i believe he existed, but he was not a holy man(to me) he was just another prophet to me... same goes for the prophet of allah(forgot his name muhammed or something?)
buddha(spelling?), the hindu(spelling?) and all other people that are centered around different religions... they were never more "holy" then other priests/worshippers... to me at least... i will not talk about others, i respect their opinions as long as they respect mine...

Agnostic. I won't ever claim to be aethiest since...I really can't "prove" that there is no God...but I lean more towards factualism.

I wasn't raised going to church so I never really got involved in any religious activity. I am a seeing and believing person. I do think there is some higher power just because I've read and seen stuff that has been *impossible* I would think. I just live every day by the hour and try to have fun in life. No evil or good crap for me.

Well Symph, I admire the fact that you have seen impossible things in your 15 years, In my 32 I have seen none.

Many wonderfull, strange, frightening and enlightening things, but never anything impossible.

Please note, this is not an attack on you, just a problem I have with taking the amazing things about life and cheapening them by attributing them to a human based religious icon.

Sorry Grimoire! I meant like seen videos of stuff. For example, if you watch Today you might know that a guy jumped out of a plane 2 miles in the air. His parachutes never deployed and he hit the ground..hard. He got away with a lung collapse and a leg taken off. just amazes me stuff like that can happen! I shouldn't have said impossible as nothing is impossible, just improbable. Sorry if I offended you!

i could say a lot in this thread, but i won't since it is an internet forum. haha. ;)

I'm an atheist, but I can't prove that God does not exist. Instead, we justify our beliefs or, better, our non-beliefs. I'm not getting at your point, only the way that you've worded it. A Christian isn't so because he has PROVEN that God exists, he merely follows Christianity. An atheist isn't so because he has PROVEN that God does not exist, he merely follows atheism.

Do you see?

Agnosticism is where you don't know whether or not God exists. That is, there is no evidence that God exists, yet you persist that you do not know whether or not to believe he exists. As an atheist, you're allowed to not know whether or not God exists, but as long as you don't believe he exists, then you could be an atheist. Although I'd prefer the term, atheist-agnostic.

I dont believe in any religion since i've learnt that they all were once just one religion, and after they broken in many religions they made up there own story of god and so.Well but in every story there is some true in it.Something is there out ,watching testing teaching call it like you whant, for us.One day i'm shure we will know, but then it will be to late to tell anyone.

Im agnostic i dont know whether he is real or not he created a world full of grief anger and sorrow yet people always look up to him
