(RP) SFR: La Guerre de Cent Ans: Redux

The battle for Vercignetroix was now heating up as more and more knights and infantry loyal to Anchorage kept puring inside the city, the sheer numbers began overwhelming the defenders as they were being cut down. For Jean, who had kept his calm composure despite the overwhelming odds knew that the battle would not be going in their favor. But he had his own plans made, one that would benefit all combatants, well all except Anchorage at least. But even he has a role in his plan as well.

Anchorage was one of the soldiers that entered the foray, cutting down two Raineri archers before turning his attention to a female soldier, most likely a Merc Shock Trooper, and an Elvean Paladin attacking by her side. He recognized the Elvean as the claimant's son. Getting rid of him would ensure that the Montfort dynasty will die out, but the shock trooper put him at unease, how could he possibly lose to mere mercenaries is beyond anything his honor will stand.

Moving in with his guard following suit, he moved in to strike down Jean while he was kept busy with the enemy, whether anyone tried to intervene or not, nothing could stop him from his destiny.

Still taking a neutral position in this battle, Alessa was actually more interested in seeing what the Anchorage was going to achieve than in the outcome of the battle. Would it be a massive loss, or a resounding victory? That was really all that mattered.

Riding behind the Anchorage, she followed him as he made for Jean. No doubt, this would be a clash between two major characters in this battle. It would be the result of this clash that defines the battle. Although Alessa was keen to oversee the battle, she knew there was bound to be some obstacles.

"Keep going! I'll hold anyone else back."

Finally drawing her blade, she ripped the blade in and out of an unfortunate soldier's head, as she rode past him.

"Prove yourself. This is your time."

To Arms!

As expected, with their numbers, they were filling up their losses as quickly as they go down. Already, a substatial amount of enemy soldiers had broken through their lines. Although the arrows from their battlements still rain down death in rapid succession, the fightint was equally as hard. Theodora let her sword flash out in a flurry cutting down men left right and center. She held her ground, but unlike her larger comrades, she was less shield and more taking out those that slipped by. One such group made a bee line straight towards the Elvean Paladin.

Not if I can help it!

Performing a triple twirl, Theodora twirled across in towrds the charging group, cutting down three soldiers on the way before lashing out with a deep, sharp thrust towards the most decorated looking one of the group, witha fireball conjoured in her hand. It was a big group and Theodora had to take out a one or two in the initial attack, or at the very least, disperse them. When it was as big as her palm, Theodora let it rip at the ground in the middle of the group. Its small size meant that she wasn't going to blow everyone up, but it also meant she wasn't going to get caught in it. Most likely, it would kill or main the guy right on top of it.

A small scale fireball exploded near the entrance to the fortress, and as Jean turned to face the Sevensheep girl who launched the attack he then saw the enemy general, Francois d'Anchorage covering his face from the attack. "I see you're hiding your face in defeat." Jean chided at his father's rival and claimant to the throne.

"You..." Anchorage said as he saw both the Jean and the mercenary girl responsible. "Where's your father?" Jean laughed as Anchorage said that. "He knew that you were daring enough to launch an attack on us here, so he retreated to the capital and the rest of his army. So what are you going to do, run and chase after him?"

The Pretender to the Ducal throne remained calm about it, "Oh well, once I reach there, I'll tell him the news that his only son died in the field of battle." Anchorage looked back towards the mercenary girl, probably his top prized mercenary, and began his charge towards her. Rather than cut her down, he decided to just tackle her to the ground and have one of the soldiers hold her down. Although mercenaries are not worth much as bargaining tools, perhaps she could be swayed to his side by money. A few Infantrymen saw the battle between Anchorage, Jean Montfort and Theodora Sevensheep and moved in to assist their leader.

Contract Binding

"You...Where's your father?"

The question was directed at the Elvean Paladin by Theodora's side, though she did not quite understand the situation in which it was asked. The man's armour was decorated and the way he commanded his troops around him meant he was either a high noble or if luck may have it, the general.

"He knew that you were daring enough to launch an attack on us here, so he retreated to the capital and the rest of his army. So what are you going to do, run and chase after him?"

Bingo.... it is the commander after all... and with a small force. Detached from the bottleneck at the gate, this is as good an opportunity as we can get.

"Oh well, once I reach there, I'll tell him the news that his only son died in the field of battle."

Hey, Sir Paladin... if i take his head right here right now... do i get a bonus?

A mercenary through to the core. Really, Theodora cared less about the gold and more about reputation. She fears for her clumsy side may tarnish her family's good name. If she could take down the opposition general, or at the very least hold them off, surely it would undo some of the damage she has done to the Sevensheep name?

The General charged. It was odd. Rather than attack her with his weapons, the large man came crushing down towards her in a head long bowl as if to tackle. If she got hit hear right now, that was it. She would go down to the floor and probably get killed. Losing one's footing is detrimental in battle. To make matters worse, another formidable opponent was riding through their gate bottleneck and she looked imposing. Jean had to be protected or she would have failed her contract.

INFANTRYMAN GATHER! ATTACK!

Scores of Men at Arms peeled off from heading to the gate and engaged with the guards that the General had brought with him. Unlike out in the fields, they did not have crushing numerical advantage, but their window of opportunity was small. With practiced ease, Theodora twirled at the last second to her right and just as the passed by her, Theodora let her sword, using the centrifugal force of the twirl to increase its power, swung down straight towards his back.

In any case, there was no reason for Alessa not to join in the battle. Drawing her blade, she got off her mount. As if on cue, the soldiers moved towards her, seeing it as an opportunity to catch her off guard. Yet if they had seen her face before they made their decision, perhaps they may have made a wiser choice.

The notion of attacking her was the last thought they would ever have.

Swinging her sword upwards, she slashed her blade into a soldier's ribs. Gasping, he falls as his comrades rush in to avenge his death. Alessa followed up with her attacks, stabbing the blade into another soldier, before kicking his limp body off.

Quickly looking over to her ally, she slowly moved closer, cutting down a path soldier by soldier.

He seemed to be holding his ground fine - a relief, considering the importance of keeping an ally of the King alive.

Hey, Sir Paladin... if i take his head right here right now... do i get a bonus?

"Don't worry bout him. This fortress is lost anyway."
Despite Jean saying this, Anchorage charged at Sevensheep, only to take a swipe at his back by careful maneuvering. Although the wound wasn't deep, it did cut through his armor and chainmail.

"Come on, let us evacuate to the capital." Jean said as he turned away from his father's rival claimant, Anchorage, holding his back responded "For a knight, you have no honor. No different from the mercenaries, huh?"

"Chivalry's dead, you do what you can to achieve your desired result."
Jean began running off, hoping Theodora would follow suit. It was initially his father's plan to do that, to weaken the enemy in preparations for a weakened and demoralized force to engage a larger, stronger and fresh army by the ducal capital.

Tactical Withdrawal

"Don't worry bout him. This fortress is lost anyway."

There was a pause in Theodora's thoughts. They were abandoning the fortress. They had been holding out relatively decently and could probably still do more damage before they should retreat. However, she was just a front line soldier and she did not see the strategies past those regarding just this battle.

"Come on, let us evacuate to the capital."

In any case, the Paladin was her employer, so Theodora backed slowly from the enemy general and his guards after Jean. Sword at the ready in case any one decided to have another go at them, she flicked her eyes from enemy to enemy, looking for signs of any danger from them.

"For a knight, you have no honor. No different from the mercenaries, huh?"

Hearing this, Theodora was somewhat heart. Even as mercenaries, they had honour and pride. Here was this man that is now spitting on her own pride and that of her ancestors.

"Chivalry's dead, you do what you can to achieve your desired result."

As the Paladin quickly dashed off away from their enemies, Theodora quickly followed suit. Fullfill the contract to the last letter. That was her creed. More infantry men convereged in between the Paladin, herself and the enemy commander, effectively buying them time. It did not take the slight knight to catch up to the Paladin on their escape.

When do the men get the signal to retreat?

[OOC: I suppose some action is in line. I have been really slow, and I apologize for that. Was really hesitant about posting.]

Alessa couldn't catch the exact details of the conversation that ensued between her ally and his enemy, but she managed to catch a significant fragment. "...Let us evacuate to the capital," said the Paladin. The Anchorage shouts his response, but whatever his words, Alessa knew it was time to push the battle further.

"No you won't!"

Deathsbane was a blur as it cut into yet another unfortunate warrior. Kicking the corpse of the already dead soldier aside, Alessa stepped forward facing the leaders of her enemies for this battle. Unobstructed now, and intent on doing her reputation as 'Death Knight' justice, she raises her blade and attacks the Paladin.

"No you won't!"

Jean quickly turned around and saw the Death Knight charging in, killing a hapless mercenary and raises her blade, bringing it down on the Paladin. The Paladin raised his blade with both hands, in a horizontal position, and blocked the strike, before stepping back, his sword on his right side.

"So you're the famed Death Knight of the Erusean Monarchy. A shame we have to meet under such circumstances..." Jean de Montfort said, "Nonetheless, I'm afraid that even if you kill me, my death nor the death of my father will mean the end to the war. Still, I suppose you want to fight, so I'll shall oblige you this one time."

While focusing on Alessa, Jean said, "Sevensheep, you may withdraw, my soldiers shall give the order to the rest of the men. Head to Dreux Crossing, on the way to the Capital, if I do not reach you by nightfall, then report the news of my death to Lord-Father."

Indeed, the Paladin was true to his name. Maybe he did abandon some amount of honor in deciding a retreat but at least he obliged this battle. Alessa, knocked back by Jean's parrying action, fluidly spun about to conveniently stab her blade into a mercenary from behind.

"So you're the famed Death Knight of the Erusean Monarchy. A shame we have to meet under such circumstances..."

"And you,"
Alessa responded in agreement.

"Nonetheless, I'm afraid that even if you kill me, my death nor the death of my father will mean the end to the war. Still, I suppose you want to fight, so I'll shall oblige you this one time. Sevensheep, you may withdraw, my soldiers shall give the order to the rest of the men. Head to Dreux Crossing, on the way to the Capital, if I do not reach you by nightfall, then report the news of my death to Lord-Father."

It didn't take long for his men to catch on. All around, the Erusean enemies were slowly moving back, letting the Eruseans gain just a little more ground.

Still, Alessa's interest was the Paladin.

"It won't end the war, but it'll allow us one step towards the end. Still, it's not something of concern to a person about to die, no?"

Chanting inaudibly under her breath, she raised her blade to summon the darkness. The blade flickers briefly before all light fade from it, becoming a completely black bladed sword. So black was it that even light would not reflect from its metallic surface.

"Don't worry, I'll try to make it painless for you, Paladin."

"It won't end the war, but it'll allow us one step towards the end. Still, it's not something of concern to a person about to die, no?"

Watching Alessa's blade turned as black as the night, Jean chuckled. "I guess not. But I suppose us knights have nothing to fear." The Elvean Paladin brought his sword to bear. He intended to survive the battle for now, but only enough to see his goals through. Still, he intended to hold back for now.

"Don't worry, I'll try to make it painless for you, Paladin."

"Your move."
Jean finally spoke, preparing a defense to gauge her strength, while coming up with a strategy for escape.

(OOC: Tipsy, your welcome to follow Jean's order, or stay and fight if you wish. Your choice. Also, sorry for the short post)

Theodora Sevensheep

Stick through till the end

Sevensheep, you may withdraw, my soldiers shall give the order to the rest of the men. Head to Dreux Crossing, on the way to the Capital, if I do not reach you by nightfall, then report the news of my death to Lord-Father."

Theodora played with her sword as she contemplated what Jean had said. More and more soldiers were pouring into fortress. While it was not in her best interest to hang around and stick her neck out extra for the Paladin, Theodora shrugged her shoulder and turned back. Facing two enemy generals at once without so much back up but normal men at arms was suicidal. At the very least, she could divert the attention of Anchorage.

Hm..... i can stick around for a few moment longer, but i will be retreating when things get hairy, y'know.

Avalon sliced through two more enemy soldiers on her way towards Anchorage, standing off against the general. All around them, knights and soldiers clashed, leaving Anchorage relatively alone with only a few guards for back up. Theodora levelled her sword at Anchorage before settling into combat stance

I still owe you for that disparaging remark about mercenaries. Come. I will show you how a mercanry Knight fights.

Alessa hesitated. It was not her style to attack first. More often than not, she would be inciting the wrath of her opponents with her vicious tongue. Alessa would then turn their blind fury against them. An angry opponent, she realized, made the most mistakes.

Yet here, the Paladin was playing it careful. In offering her the first move, he effectively made it difficult for her to agitate him without being obvious about her intentions. She would have to attack first.

Nevertheless, the fact that her opponent was someone more famous than any other she had encountered prior to this battle was a consolation. It would be less so if she triumphs over the Paladin though, and that was what she decided she would do. Alessa glares at her opponent, waiting for the right opportunity to move.

It so happened that just as the mercenary speaks her last sentence, a soldier runs past. Grabbing the soldier to use as cover, she ran in an arc towards the Paladin. The soldier was far too startled to even react. Alessa was stronger than he had expected, and even faster when she tears him apart from the shoulder down.

Suddenly close to the Paladin, she attacks with a slash to his head. She was expecting him to dodge it easily enough somehow, and was planning to follow it up with another slash with Deathsbane.

Hm..... i can stick around for a few moment longer, but i will be retreating when things get hairy, y'know.

"Hmph...suit yourself, but don't die. Every life is of great importance."
Jean said looking at Theodora before looking back at Alessa. "Even yours has some importance Alessa."

He watched and waited, keeping his sword to the side as he awaited a move from Alessa. The Paladin kept a close eye on her, watching her cut a mercenary down before moving to charge in, using his dead corpse as cover to strike at Jean with a slash to the head. The Elvean jerked his head back to avoid contact with the Black Obsidian Blade filled with the power of Darkness. Narrowly avoiding, he decided to keep up the defensive.

Meanwhile, as Anchorage was killing mercenaries left and right, he heard a voice...

I still owe you for that disparaging remark about mercenaries. Come. I will show you how a mercanry Knight fights.

Anchorage turned around to see the Mercenary that he just insulted. His face full of rage, he slowly walked over to Theodora, "And I will show you just what a mercenaries' fate should be, child." Raising his sword, the pretender was about to thrust his sword right into the woman's arm then smack her with his backhand.

Honour

"And I will show you just what a mercenaries' fate should be, child."

Of course the General wouldn't baulk. This is a man that leads thousands upon thousands of men in conquests of land and territory. Most likely, he has faced many things more threatening than a lone mercenary. However, right now is a bit different. His men were scattered everywhere, disjointed, leaving him open to attack without protection. His status as a general didn't count to anything right now. All it is is a contest of strength and skills between two combatant. Anchorage approached Theodora and the girl could see his rage. Internally, a part of her shivered and curled up. He was physically bigger and more domineering than her, but Theodora's combat centered around hairline dodging and not getting hit. As long as she stuck by how she normally fought, Anchorage was but another soldier.

Now within range, Anchorage lunged with a thrust straight at her arm. With a vertical parry, Theodora let the lung slide across the outside edge of her blade whilst sidestepping slightly sidewards and allowing his momentum to continue forward. As the blade continued pass, she went right into his guard, next to Anchorage's chest and brought her sword down in a hilt bash towards his face. She was too close to dodge, so the only thing she could do was finish her attack and block. To lessen the blow, Theodora left off her feet and to her right, going with the direction of the force she took with her left arm covering her face. It connected with her pauldron, but his weighty hand carried a rather heavy force. Whilst it didnt send her flying, it meant her hilt hammer blow was going to be hit or miss.

C'mon...... connect.....!

Alessa was thankful for the Paladin's defensive front. After all, her time as a warrior had mostly seen soldiers fighting her whilst on the defensive. Her blade was magically enchanted with the powers of darkness that inhibited the healing abilities of any ordinary man. The Paladin may be above an ordinary man, but a wound is still a wound even if he is strong of will enough to overcome the effects of Deathsbane.

Taking a small step back to regather her momentum, the Death Knight swung about on her heels to attempt to slash the Paladin at chest level. She was expecting the Paladin to somehow avoid this attack however, and is preparing to lunge with a stab when possible.

OOC: *Stares at Tipsy's new av before slapping self* FOCUS MAN!!!

IC:

Anchorage could've seen it coming. Maybe he was still annoyed that this person, this sellsword would be able to fight. Yet despite landing a direct hit with his backhand to her pauldron, he barely noticed the hilt coming towards him until it almost too late. Jerking his head to his left side, he almost dodged the strike, the hilt striking at the knight's right cheekbone. While it was a narrow hit, it was just as hard, and he had to step back a bit.

Meanwhile, Jean kept watch of Alessa and her blade as she swung her blade at his chest. The Elvean warrior took his blade and blocked it with a downward vertical facing parry. Taking a step back, Jean pushed the blade up in the air proceeded to follow through with a left facing diagonal cut aimed at the shoulder.

OOC: Glad its doing something.

Theodora Sevensheep

Eye for an Eye

Her light body was sent to the side, but the strike by no means too damaging beyong a shove. After all, her pauldron took the brunt of it and she had jumped with the blow to reduce damage. Still... a blow for blow meant they were on even footing, but Theodora decided to take the window of opportunity that appeared when Anchorage reeled slightly from the hilt blow. With their big size and weight difference, she would have to depend on swift, precise strikes in oder to keep him from going on the offensive.

Chance!

Avalon swung downwards in an incredible arc towards his right collar bone, hoping to strike him at the base of his neck. A cirtical strike whether she cleaves through his neck or hit his armour. Should he dodge, Theodora had some fire bullets charged up in her left hand, ready to unleash at him so that she could suppress him in order to buy time to reposition

Of course a counterstrike was coming. Alessa was too experienced to not expect that. In one fluid motion, she sidesteps to evade the attack. The battle between the two had so far been restricted to pure swordplay, and that was precisely how she hoped to win this battle. That was not to say she will lose otherwise, but desperate measures for desperate situations.

Having evaded the Paladin's counter, she proceeded to counter with her own stabbing attack in hope of reaching his chest - or at least grazing his arm.
