Nintendo The Last Story

^ That wouldn't count as a copy right infringement. Either they use the exact title or one that would be so similar it could confuse consumers. Like if they named it The Final Fantasy or FinalxFantasy.

They wouldn't have to win the lawsuit. :ohshit:

They'd only have to take them to court long enough to bankrupt them to where they couldn't afford lawyers anymore.

That's how we do things in the good old USA. :neomon:
  • Mcdonalds lost the lawsuit where fat people sued them for "making them" fat.
  • An old lady put a hot cup of coffee between her legs, accelerated her car too quickly and burnt herself when her coffee spilled on her. She sued as the coffee cup didnt have a warning that says: "warning hot coffee". She won.

Lesser lawsuits have won the day!!

Not to step on the Gaia mods's toes or anything, but this is starting to go way off topic. Better save this kind of thing for a separate thread about the delights of American lawsuit and compensation court case cultures.

Square-Enix has no reason to take Mistwalker to court over this, neither will they ever, and neither will many people take the threat of a court case seriously (as funny it would be to see the clueless and bumbling Square-Enix attempt to sue the crap out of the Final Fantasy franchise's own creator, no less!). In fact, Square should take notes from people like Mistwalker, with the most recent Final Fantasies being either soulless, meshed together with no real direction, or just plain disastrous. At least here, Sakaguchi had the right idea, with early planning stages focusing on gameplay, while crafting a story and everything else around it. Then there's Square coming up with story ideas and character designs ASAP before charging in to make some flashy CGI and pouring most of the budget on polishing rocks and making it as gorgeous as physically possible. I mean, they didn't even know what to do for FFXIII in terms of how it played during its tumultuous development!

GAME cancels The Last Story Limited Edition pre-orders, switches customers over to standard

Those who pre-ordered The Last Story Limited Edition from GAME have been receiving mails stating their pre-orders have been switched over to the standard edition.

thelaststory.jpg

According MyNintendoNews, some customers haven’t received notice of the change, but GoNintendo is reporting that some have – so you may want to check your pre-order status if a mail isn’t sitting in your inbox.

Some GAME customers are reporting that their order has even been cancelled entirely.

An official response on GAME’s Facebook page states that the retailer “won’t be stocking the Limited Edition,” and that it “unfortunately had to cancel pre-orders of said edition.”

We’ve reached out to GAME for comment on the matter and a representative for the firm stated the matter was “currently being investigating” and more information will be available tomorrow.

GAME confirmed earlier today it would not be stocking Ubisoft’s launch titles for Vita in the UK, so this is just another bit of bad news for customers today.

The Last Story releases in the UK on February 24.

I went into GAME yesterday and almost pre-ordered the Limited Edition of Last Story - I ended up preordering it from amazon because it cost £30 rather than £60. Furthermore, I had a chance to talk to a friend who works there and apparently GAME is having a major stock shortage. They didn't get all of the pre-order packs for FFXIII-2, nor did many stores receive the Crystal Edition, there weren't enough copies of Catherine for customers, even those who had pre-ordered it... So yeah, this doesn't surprise me in the least. :/

In regards to the game itself, I am very much looking forward to it! :) The music sounds incredible! I haven't seen or heard much about the story yet, but I'm hopeful. I'm in such an RPG phase. :gasp: I'm going to have to work very hard on completing a few games over the next few months. FFVI, VII, IX, Xenoblade and The Last Story are at the top of the list. :wacky:

Last Story

Someone needs to put down the thesaurus.

Seriously...
I noticed this yesterday. :lew:

I have this game pre-ordered and im importing it from Europe. There is no doubt in my mind this will be a good title. Sakagutchi makes good games and he is after all the father of Final Fantasy. I asked him on my FB if this was coming to NA and he responded with "I hope so"

There is no telling when this title will be coming in NA(if it even does) so i just thought i would import. I did the same thing with Xenoblade a while back.

-Setz-

My pre-order is still intact...but then, I went with the standard edition, because I have far too much else to buy over the next couple of months (Neptunia Mk.2, Disgaea 3 Vita, Tales of Graces f, Atelier Meruru, Gravity Rush, etc etc) to be splurging on special editions that offer me a lousy artbook and a sample of some of the worst soundtrack I've heard for a JRPG :lew:

Still hasn't been dispatched yet, though...although I'm not *too* fussed if it doesn't arrive a day early...it'd be nice, though.

I bought my copy this morning, since GAME cancelled all pre-orders. Ended up with the Limited Edition, because that was all they had in HMV...but since it was the same price as a standard Wii game, and I had enough to cover it on my voucher, I don't mind so much.

First impressions (spoiler free, I have no story comments to make yet, other than that it's mildly confusing and giving me a strong sense of deja vu) ahoy!

The battle system is very, VERY similar to Xenoblade's, from what I can tell, only with a little more interactivity in terms of what you can do, like taking cover, rolling, directing party members to do specific things, etc. You run up to stuff and attack automatically, but you can manually shoot a crossbow - although it's horrendously unresponsive - and since I unlocked a Slash skill, I'm guessing there will be more to come...if there aren't, it's going to be one hell of a dull game, anyway.

The party interactivity is nice. Within the first thirty minutes I was ordering my mage, Yurick, to take out support pillars with enemies on them and aim for the head of some giant boss thing, and at one point you stage a flanked assault on a small group of enemies, which was fun. Sneak up behind them, snipe the mage, then all hell breaks loose. The characters themselves like to chat a lot, as well...although Syrenne mostly throws insults about and whines. I love her already. She's like a female Reyn. Complete with an accent, and a disturbing love for booze.

The AI seems competent enough at the moment, but it's going to need to remain so...if the central point of combat is to draw attention to yourself with the glowing blue arm thing (which it seems to be) then I shudder to think what could happen in later battles :hmmm:

Something tells me levels aren't going to be a huge feature in this game, because I've already come across a summon point, which didn't seem to have an expiration to it. Tap L, and they just keep coming, I spent a little time level grinding...probably should have done a bit more, but ah well. Must press on, since I expect once I get to multiplayer any story progression will be gone...plus I'm almost certainly going to want to review this, so I can't stop and dally. Might regret this later. xD

Voice acting is, unsurprisingly, superior to any US voice cast. But that was to be expected. The language is more amusing, but I think Xenoblade's cast had more emotion to them, at least for the moment. OST...it's not as bad in game as it is by itself, I suppose, but it's not very atmospheric. Generic Uematsu.

...also, why is Vossler in my party?

Expect me to mass spam this thread as I progress. xD

Sakaguchi introduces director’s cut trailer for The Last Story

A director’s cut video of The Last Story has been released featuring RPG legend Hironobu Sakaguchi as he and Nintendo celebrate the launch of the Wii-exclusive. Check it out below. The game is out today in the UK and will release on Wii in the US sometime this summer.

Well I've played this for a couple of hours and I absolutely love it! The main characters are all very likeable, the dialogue is witty and the acting is believable. Furthermore , judging by Lisa and Zael's personalities, any love story which may develop is unlikely to be sappy. :) There are some conversations in which you're permitted to make a choice, which aren't to dissimilar to the Live Trigger conversations in FFXIII-2. They're a nice touch and make the experience feel a little more personal.

The world and battle system have so far been less interesting, but I'm sure there's a lot more to see and neither really prevent the game from being beautiful.

When it comes to the battle system, it's great having a birds-eye-view shot of the field before starting, but I do wish the battles themselves were more tactical. A lot of it is done for you. I am pretty certain this is intentional as the gamer can then focus on the story, but it would be nice to have difficulty settings which allow one to face a challenge occasionally. I'll admit I haven't yet looked to see whether this is an option though... Having said that, I am really enjoying what the system has to offer! You can hide, dive, spot weaknesses and issue commands.

Summon points are a nice touch as you can grind endlessly without having to search for encounters, but I haven't had a real need to use them. Perhaps things will get a bit tougher later on - I'm only 2 hours in.

Edit: So I'm now about 8 hours in and in Chapter 20 (which is a horrible optional chapter that I'd recommend others avoid! Just don't help out Horace when you meet him in the city). The boss battle there is tedious as it requires weakening an opponent, chasing him around the level and hitting him occasionally, before he becomes invulnerable and you have to weaken him again...It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to chase him constantly and actually landed a satisfying collection of hits! -_-

Apart from that, the game's quite solid. The battle system gets more enjoyable as more abilities are unlocked and it is possible to be more tactical as you give commands to the other members in your party. A number of the levels are well designed and the main city itself is nice to explore. There are some nice touches with the attire, too, as various pieces of armour will look different depending on who equips them... that's a very small touch, mind you. ;)

The Last Story’s US release to be a limited print run

North American fans after a copy of The Last Story may want to go ahead and pre-order soon – as publisher XSeed have indicated the game will have a limited print run when it launches on the continent.

vg247-tls.jpg

“We do anticipate a limited run for the game as we already have a number in mind of how many units we can expect to sell of this title, and all our pre-production efforts will be geared towards being able to manufacture a final number somewhat close to our initial estimated number,” Ken Berry, Director of Publishing at XSeed told IGN (via GoNintendo).

“It’s too early to start thinking of doing additional runs, but as a general policy we haven’t been very active on doing reprints of our other titles so far.”

Europeans were lucky enough to have access to a fairly lavish special edition of the Wii RPG, the latest from Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi – but Americans may have to fight to even get the game itself. XSeed also explain in the interview that they’re looking into the prospect of a US Limited Edition package.

Nintendo published the title in Europe but passed on a US release. It’s the second in a trilogy of Wii RPGs that Nintendo of America has at least initially shunned, alongside Xenoblade Chronicles and the upcoming Pandora’s Tower.

Destructoid points out that Metroid Prime Trilogy, another limited print Wii title of interest to the core gamer market, now fetches hundreds of dollars on eBay. Might want to get those pre-orders in, then.

I haven't actually got this game yet, but I've been watching videos on Youtube, and I really want to get it, I like the story, the characters and the battle system looks pretty good.

I'm not very good with the wii though, as I don't play on it often, but I might just play on it for this game. :ryan:

I have the game pre-ordered as well for the US release. I really dont know much about it. From being busy plus trying to actively not read much about RPG's anymore (since websites like to throw out spoilers like no tomorrow), Im ready to have some fun with it.

Judging by impressions here though, it's turning out pretty well.

Fuuuuuu.. I told myself I was gonna get a LE version of this when it came out but now we're not even sure if we'll get one? I'll pre-order one regardless, but I don't want to wait too long and miss out.

This game is pretty good, not great but it's pretty good.
The gameplay is interesting, story is OK, it's not a big game, you can complete it in less than 15 hours, great character design and amazing OST. One of the best OSTs I have ever heard, great job from Nobuo even though I'm not a Nobuo-fan.

Sadly the story never develops into anything particularly interesting. :sad3: I've been waiting for a major development in the plot, but it's reasonably basic. The characters don't go through any major changes; the only characters who I came to feel anything for were General Asthar and Therius, who were both incredibly noble. Calista held a lot of promise at the start but lacked depth as the plot developed; she wasn't an empty shell of a character, and she's intelligent, but she didn't really change as the story progressed. They could have done so much with Dagran and Zael too, but didn't really explore their friendship, nor its transformation in depth.

Don't play this game expecting a high quality story like in Final Fantasy! Personally, I feel the story is less worthwhile than the stories in FFXII, XIII and XIII-2 - although I really enjoyed those three games!

The battle system is clever at first, but later on there's just too much going on. Regardless, I returned to the earlier moves (which tended to be more useful). What really got to me, however, was the lagging - this game lags in battles like nobody's business. :gasp: It makes it difficult to keep track of the chaos. :lew:

I don't DISlike the game; it's perfectly enjoyable, but it's not as good as it could have been. It's certainly been over-rated. :hmmm: Were I to rate it... I'd give it a 6. Since ratings are pretty subjective, and people have their own standards, here's how I would rate the games in the FF series, for your comparison. :wacky:

Final Fantasy II = 7 (a pretty solid early game with some heartbreaking moments)
Final Fantasy VI = 8.5 (excellent story, basic but effective battle system)
Final Fantasy VII = 9 (fantastic story and characters, good battle system, incredible music and world design)
Final Fantasy VIII = 9.5 (one of my favourite stories, a good cast, lovely music, a good battle system.)
Final Fantasy IX = 8.5 (a good story, but some sections do feel unecessary. A great cast and beautifully designed world. The music is decent, but the instruments used are a bit clunky in places. The battle system is a little slow.)
Final Fantasy X = 9.5 (an absolutely beautiful story with some of my favourite characters, beautiful music, gorgeous world design and my favourite battle system)
Final Fantasy X-2 = 6 (I dislike the story, though the battle system is quite good.)
Final Fantasy XII = 8 (The story's good, but there's not enough character development for my personal tastes. The battle system is fun and different and levelling up is quite simple. The world is quite possibly the best I've yet seen in a game.)
Final Fantasy XIII = 7.5 (Love the story, but the battle system is a bit dull. I hate how it's game over when the leader dies. :lew:)
Final Fantasy XIII-2 = 9.5 (Love the story and I adore Noel and Serah - not to mention Caius and Yeul. The battle system is an improvement on XIII's and the music is an odd mix, but it certainly grows on you!)

Im 16 hours into the game as well speak and Im getting a very "average" feeling out of it. While I dont agree with the 4 Destructoid gave it, I definitely think its a low 7 game. Just barely.

The characters I dont really care for all that much. Zael isnt unlikable, well most arent, except I hate Serriene (sp?). It's just been way WAY overhyped. Im afraid of what Xenoblade will be like now considering all the hype it gets. People acted like these two games were doing so much new for the genre and I definitely feel people exaggerated it. The story really isnt something brand new (which is fine by me) but the characters are all stereotypes (which is also fine by me) but people acted like these characters were anything different from any other game, rpg or not. Im sorry but british voice acting (not even that great IMO, FFXII had much better voices) doesnt make the characters these bounding balls of charisma people like to think they are.

It's an ok game, but it isnt amazing. Controls are a little iffy, graphics could be better (though I wont fault that since graphics dont mean a great game), story really doesnt seem all that interesting, and the characters are kinda bland IMO. I thoroughly enjoyed FFXIII and FFXIII-2 much more than this so far.

THIS GAME HAS REDUCED ME TO A HUGE BLOB OF TEARS I LOVE IT SO MUHUHUCH ;___;

so i had my wii repaired and then the wii guy asked if i wanted it jailbroken too (or idk what it's called for wii) then he says i can buy an external hard drive from him then he'd fill it with 300 games so i said okay. i found this among them when i was playing at home and juST AS I WAS GETTING INTO IT IT HUNG

i tried getting another copy of the file but no go. i looked for it in all the game shops in the city and none of them ever had it in stock. in my desperation, i called my aunt in america who was coming home a week from the time, to buy it off amazon and she did. AND THE LAST STORY DID NOT DISAPPOINT. i am halfway through the game according to the chapter guide and i loved every single moment of it

once i finish the game i might come back to write a proper non-fangirl review (BUT WHO ARE WE KIDDING) because right now my feels have not calmed

I AM ACTUALLY JUST KILLING TIME RIGHT NOW BECAUSE MY GRANDMA IS WATCHING A SOAP ON THE BIG TV WHERE I PLAY AND I LOVE HER BUT AS SOON AS I HEAR THE CREDITS I WILL CHARGE TO MY SPOT AND CONTINUE MY GAME
