Playstation Uncharted III: Drake's Deception Thread

I have wanted each title since it game out and I played a demo at the store, loved it since then. I'm glad there is another, but it also saddens me. I have yet to play and beat the others (lack the system).

What's up with the fatter faced Statham look-ah-like? And wow, a female villain? I laughed when she called him a cocky little shit xD

And Playstation will always have a problem with elbows bending and arms moving (to me at least xD) but oh well, the game looks absolutely beautiful.

The others looked beautiful and handled well from what I saw, so I know this one will be ten times better. Hopefully I'll own the system this time around, this was one of the sole reasons that drove me to want the PS3...

I looked up on Uncharted Wikia for more information on our new villain.

Here is what I found:

Katherine "Kate" Marlowe is the primary antagonist in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. Marlowe is British, and is described as a "coldly calculating leader of a secret society whose roots date back over four hundred years to the court of Queen Elizabeth I."

Biography
It is known that Marlowe "is the head of an order whose history reaches back 400 years to the reign of Queen Elizabeth the First. And the order are connected to Queen Elizabeth's court of advisors who include the famous occultist John Dee, who is really Britain's first spy master. He used to sign his letters to the queen "007". The two zeroes represented his eyes on the world on her behalf."
"She uses every psychological and physical tactic at her disposal and really is someone who uses fear as a weapon to get what she wants in the world."
She and Nate are both competing for Francis Drake's Ring, "and they both believe they have a claim of ownership for it. And really the ring is what propels them on this adventure that leads them all around the world and finally ends up in the heart of the desert on the Arabian peninsula."[1]

Character Development
Marlowe is played by Rosalind Ayres. In an interview, lead game designer Richard Lemarchand said, "We are extremely lucky to be working with her. "She has brought an tremendous amount to this character. At Naughty Dog, we feel that a big part of the success of the Uncharted games is due to the effort that we put into our performance capture process where we work with the actors, improvising scenes with them and very often some of the best lines come straight from the actors, the things they invent while we are rehearsing with them and Ros has been fantastic in helping us in developing Marlowe's character."

Trivia
Victor Sullivan calls her "Kate," and both he and Nate allude to some previous interaction with her, with Nate saying, "I should have known you'd be behind this."
So she is not Helen Mirren, but is played by Rosalind Ayres (an English actress that has been in a few things I've seen).

With the secret society connection and her past history with Drake and Sully, she could be quite interesting.

It's good to see a female protagonist, and a British one at that. :ryan: I just hope for the love of good UC3 doesn't introduce some sort of mythical creatures like Uncharted and Uncharted 2 did. I liked the realism up until those points. :gonk:

The beasties make the end part of the game harder, that's the point and they tie into the plot. I'm not sure realistic the series is, finding ancient treasure everywhere, and going to all these places that don't exist. If it's anywhere near as good as UC2 it'll be excellent.

I agree that it is nice to have a female villain in Uncharted. The main thing that interests me is UC going to Europe and a British female is certainly interesting. The mythical creatures were indeed interesting. I was so not expecting them.

I think we're quite likely to get genies / djinn or something in this one.

I don't really mind the mythical creatures much. The appearance of both creatures for the last two games have surprised me so far, but I'm used to it by now.

Ahh another one to play :D

Really enjoyed the second one, particularly the online stuff. It was decent to play, and felt like a nice break from more popular online games since no-one seemed to take it quite so seriously.

On-topic. Also nice to see more than one or two British characters (even bit parts) in a game for once. If the story has the same level of interest and depth of the second game, and the game plays as well, should be great.

Well the mystical beings from UC were freeking scary, it suddenly turned into a freeking horror game..intense part...but have to agree its pretty unrealistic, then again hanging on ledges for tht long isnt realistic either..

Naughty Dawg keeps it balanced though..amazing gameplay and story..awesome graphics 720p and awesome soundtrack.

Cant wait for UC3.

Typed on my PS3 - Ohri-Jin.

Lack of realism has never been an issue for me.

The game sticks very close to the style of action movies in an archaeological setting (such as Indiana Jones). So we expect something that is at times serious, but often a bit of tongue in cheek humour, and towards the end we expect a big revelation which probably involves some mythological beast, an act of God, or aliens.

I don't think that Uncharted ever intends to be taken as a representation of real life. The scenery looks real at times and is a good recreation of what things look like, but the script and storyline isn't restricted by what people would consider real life, and draws from action-adventure stories and archaeological romance.

This is so awesome. I always predict things will happen. I am glad to see that Uncharted III will now have split screen. I think this is either Campaign or Multiplayer. But as you can see on the bottom it is split screen.

Naughty Dog adds more destruction to Uncharted III

zomguncharted38gl1.gif

Just when you thought the Naughty Dog engine couldn't get any better, they continue to improve it with newly added Destruction physics.

They're using a rare destruction program that has been used mostly for Hollywood movies and TV shows like X-Men, Hancock, and Heroes. This particular program is not even available to the public yet and has rarely (if ever) been used in any video games before.

Nerd talk - It's actually quite interesting, because Naughty Dog uses HAVOK physics, which also has 'Havok Destruction'. However Naughty Dog opted to go with a totally different Destruction program for Uncharted 3 and seems to be making Destruction an integral part of the game. If you watch the "Burning Chateau" gameplay reveal, you see the ceiling collapsing and destructable cover. I really wonder why they decided not to use Havok and instead are using a new, and unproven program which is still in it's beta stage. Either way though, it looks really good and I can't wait to see more.

I didnt like the MP at all. I hate the spliitscreen even on my 37 inch tv its too small & annoying.. :hmmm: maybe I need glasses..

I like that destructiong gif though. So crispy looking and unreal fantastico.

Naughty Dawg keeps it balanced though..amazing gameplay and story..awesome graphics 720p and awesome soundtrack.

Wait, wasn't UC2 in 1080p? :hmmm: I'm fairly certain it was, at least.

A few points of concern about this, however. While destruction is always fun and enjoyable, alot of people can end up feeling like it's a bit annoying, if not "game breaking". I have full confidence in Naughty Dog, but we have seen where destruction games get us alot of the time. Most sequels to games that try and include destruction are generally flops, and I just hope ND knows not to take away from the core of the game. I loved both Mercenaries, but after so many hated the second one, there will never be a third. Red Faction, another stunning original, wound up flopping when Guerrilla was released.

Split-screen is a plus, but I'll take take online co-op over split screen anyday.

I agree, the most annoying thing about a lot of PS3 games is that unless you have a newish TV, and I don't, the graphics aren't always that great. I got Resonance of Fate and I can't even read the writing:rage:
I said in the UC2 thread that I thought UC2 was one of the best games of all time omg!!!111 etc etc but I believe it. I don't think they need to change anything major. There is some destruction in UC2, wood gets shot to pieces. I think all they need to do is improve the little things, cover didn't always work too well etc.

Red Faction, another stunning original, wound up flopping when Guerrilla was released.

Awwww. :sad2: I loved RF:G. It wasn't perfect and would have been better if there were more things to destroy, but it was quite decent even if it was far too easy to destroy buildings with a hammer. Some of the best online fun I've ever had has been to do with RF:G online with all of the interesting back-packs, and destroying buildings with people on top of them / being on top of a building as it is destroyed from below and having a gun duel on the roof as it collapses. :woot:

Red Faction was always experimenting with destruction. The first one had destruction of rock more than anything else, and the second had only certain buildings or walls, and RF:G had anything man-made could be destroyed.

As for Uncharted, I can't see them playing too much with destruction as it doesn't really fit what Uncharted is about. They'd probably just enhance what we've already seen from Uncharted to add to realism, etc.

As for our female villain being four hundred years old, that's interesting to see. Rather than have the supernatural element revealed late into the game after being dismissed as myth from the start then (if this is all true) there will be recognition of this early on in this game.

I agree completely about Red Faction: G. I just meant it didn't do well at all. I actually beat that game twice. Once on disc, and then nought it off the PSN when it was released about half a year ago. I beat it again when I was with Kira this past time. :wacky: The point I really wanted to make is, hopefully they don't focus too much on these new aspects so it can do well enough for the series to continue afterwards. The games I named are just unlikely to have anymore "come backs". :sad2:

The new information revealed are as follow:

  • Offering booster (also known as perks for those familiar with Call of Duty) and a brand new medal system.
  • Players get medals for kills and then they can spend those medals on one-use items like a grenade that splits into three grenades.
  • Developer has also introduced the ability to sprint.
Unchared 3 is schedule to launch on November 1 in North America, and in UK on November 4.

Eddy Raja not in Uncharted III?

Earlier today, website PlayStation.Systemlink posted renders of Eddy Raja and claimed that the character would be returning in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. After such a radical claim was made, the story caught the attention of Uncharted faithful and even spurred some to accuse the site of spoiling a major aspect of Drake’s Deception. Well, just as Uncharted: World of Deceit, these renders aren’t official Uncharted 3 assets and don’t represent the game in any way.
Naughty Dog’s Community Manager, Arne Meyer, has clarified the situation and stated that the renders were nothing more than an art test

“For the record bounchfx had it right, it was Mike's character art test. :)
Officially, Eddy Raja won’t be making an appearance in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. If he does make an appearance, it’ll be in the multiplayer mode. For now, Mr. Raja will enjoy his stay in Drake's Fortune.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception will release on November 1st, 2011. Check out our impressions of the title here and discover why you need a 3D TV for this massive PS3 release.

So it appears Eddy will just be in the multiplayer again :monster:

First game shots of Elena in Uncharted III

The first in-engine shots of Elena in Uncharted 3 today leaked onto the web via Indian gaming website Gamersmint.

An anonymous tipster snagged the shots from "Gamers Heart Japan," a documentary created by gaming journalist Victor Lucas to raise awareness and money for disaster relief efforts in Japan. In a brief video clip from Uncharted developer Naughty Dog, Drake, Elena, and Sully say "We love Japan" while looking at the camera.

The shots display the Elena character model from Uncharted 3, accompanied by the freshly remodeled Drake and Sully. Check them out below (click to enlarge).

We can finally sprint in multiplayer now have perks like CoD :hmmm:

Now I so can not wait for UC III. It keeps getting better and better. :ryan:

So no return of Eddy? I expected as much, but at least he'll be available for multiplayer...

Speaking of which... :woot:!

I've just seen epic and amazing things. I'll post the article and video.

A multiplayer beta for Uncharted 3 is set to begin in just over two months' time. Naughty Dog announced today that the beta will kick off worldwide on June 28.

The beta will be open to everyone. Early access will be granted to PlayStation Plus members and those who purchase specially-marked copies of Infamous 2, which is scheduled for release on June 7.
There's no word yet on how long the beta will go on for or what modes will be included; details are expected as we get closer to the end of June. The full version of the game will be out in North America on November 1.

A few things I want to say... I'm glad that there is a customisation aspect for the characters. I just hope it doesn't end up looking a bit tacky, with people shoving bits and bobs and not looking like the characters anymore.

Secondly, if that is all multiplayer footage then we're in for a real treat with the different game modes. It looks as if there is a hostage situation game mode, similar to games (of the ones I have played) such as Socom or Haze. I think this could be really, really cool.

Thirdly, I wonder who the black guy is. He appears to be a new main character unless they are merely using the character model of a random enemy. I can't decide if he is good or bad from his use here.

Still no word of Chloe, huh? I'm kinda gutted to be honest... Was really looking forward to seeing her re-appear... =/ The four of them where just such a kick ass group...
