Uncharted 3 will utilise PSN Pass program for online play

Sony has confirmed that Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception will utilise the PlayStation Network Pass program. The game will come packaged with a unique single-use code to unlock online functionality.

Confirmation of the decision came from Spanish gaming site The Vault in an interview with Juan Jimenez, Software Manager for Sony Spain.
Introduced in Resistance 3 earlier this year, the PSN Pass requires players to use a single-use code packaged with new games to access online features. Gamers who purchase PSN Pass titles on the secondhand market will be required to purchase a new code online for the fee of $10 to access online play.
Uncharted 3 will be the second title to use the program. Jimenez states that there will be an increase in usage of the program in future Sony releases to tackle piracy.
Thanks, IGN.

"Piracy" does not seem like the right word to use. :hmmm: I can't say that I'm surprised to see UC3 using this, though. Less second hand sales of a blockbuster title = more revenue for Naughty Dog (and Sony).

Has anyone tried the early access multi yet?

Oh I am so going to pick it up the first day it comes out, no doubt about that. I am really excited for Uncharted III. The story is just going to be spectacular. :ryan: Multiplayer will no doubt be a blast as well.

^ Assuming that they fix the "no headshots" function online.

Seriously, 4 headshots to kill someone ftl. :hmph: And no, it's not my connection :rage:

Hmmm, but that was the beta. Oh yeah, some guns in the beta were terribly overpowered. I hope they fix things in the final game. The g mal with the scope was too good. Or the AK-47 with rapid fire. :jtc:

Apparently the Subway "beta" is the final multiplayer game. I could be wrong, though.

Apparently your profile from this beta gets transferred over to the official servers when the game comes out, which I hope is true. They did change a lot from the original beta though.

From what I remember, the beta had a lot of rewards. Such as getting to level twenty five. I remember I played the beta quite a bit and got a few of the rewards. All those will be in the final game for me then. Such as level 25 would give you a "healthy amount" of cash on release. I am talking about the one back in July. The subway one was definitely tweaked. :hmmm:

Yeah, I think it allows you to get to level 35 now. I think it's more of "early access" than a beta. :hmmm: That's what I remember hearing.

The level cap back in July was 50. You would not get anything after level 25 to unlock though. I got to level 37 in the beta. Early access to the multiplayer? I guess it makes sense that you need a code to get in then. When you get a copy they will supply you with the code. :hmmm:

I don't think the data from the beta will be carried over, or rewards given for participating. I'm pretty sure it is just the early access that gets stuff carried over. :hmmm:

The beta won't, but if you got certain things, they'll probably reward you for doing so. I've participated in a few betas that were like that. Your stats were reset, but you got something that showed you were a part of it. maybe you'll get a shirt or a special character :gasp:

Just some things you will be rewarded with on release. I am talking about from the July beta though. Not the subway one. If you met the requirements back in July.

All of the multiplayer maps are on the Subway 'beta' (probably best described as early access), except for one map.

There is a map called 'The Docks' (I think) which is meant to be very, very good. The water rises and sinks at different times and we get to swim and do water combat! :argor: That hasn't been added to the Subway version yet, and might not make it to that version. At least that is a map to be in the real game.

I doubt that the maps will stop there though. They'll likely add other maps like they did with UC2. I'm also hoping that they'll add more characters. We only have about 4-5 to choose from from each side... That's currently quite poor, even though we do get the option to change colours (though currently not costume-pieces for proper characters, only 'custom' characters who all end up looking like the guy from inFamous :brooding:).

They need to add classic characters like Eddy Raja, Flynn, Tenzin etc. I guess they'll only do this after some time.

DC are also publishing new (printed) comics for Uncharted, and the artwork (from the covers) looks very good. http://uncharted.wikia.com/wiki/Uncharted:_Issue_1
So far it is a prequel to UC2, but if there are any new characters introduced in that we can perhaps expect to see a model of them in the UC3 multiplayer (like Mr. Pinkerton and Rika Raja were for the Eye of Indra motion comics).

I hope to see a few costume pieces for the characters too... I don't want them to go overboard and make them tacky looking, but perhaps a change of shirt, trousers etc, and maybe one or two accessories. Nothing that would completely ruin the look and the character, but a little more than just changing the colour of their shirt from one colour to the next.

I hated the custom characters because you can't even give them hair. I don't know if there's an explanation for that (I need to play the first two UC games but I have no money :sad3:), but it's irritating :hmph: I liked the beginning of one map (forgot what it's called) where you start off either in the cars driving next to the plane or in the plane :awesome: I was hoping that the whole level was like that because I accidentally fell off the car when I missed a jump :( Then the plane and cars landed at a level I'd already played on.

Yeah, the characters will be plentiful. Probably have every single character we have seen in the previous games. Argie, it is only the beginning for now, but if I can play as Elena, I am fine. xD Oh water combat? Well that is going to be really fun. Yeah, we can expect more multiplayer maps through Dlc and such in the future. They will eventually start giving out those packs of characters like UC II. I am pretty sure UC III will have even more than UC II had to offer. Oh, and I know what you mean about the comic. Never played the subway maps. Just played Airstrip and Chateau back in July oh and occasionally Yemen. :(

You probably shouldn't play UC3 without playing the first 2. You'll really be at a loss starting with UC3 as much explanation and background is revealed in the first two. I'd recommend saving up and first purchasing the first two, and the first game is only about $19.99 now so I'm sure you could snag it cheaper. UC2 might be about $24.99 but still, it'd be more worthwhile to you if you get UC1 and 2 for a cheaper price rather than getting just the 3rd and newest game for more money, and not really getting as into it as you should.

As for Uncharted 3, I am stoked and I have preordered the collector's edition and can't wait for it to arrive... about a week after release >.> I can't want to experience the adrenaline rushes and thrills this game will indefinitely provide for me and the splitscreen co-op I heard about makes me even more excited because I'll be able to play it with friends at my house. I lack multiplayer games with the exception of Uncharted 2.

I'd never ever play UC3 before the first two :gasp: I just happened to get into the beta and played it while I could :P I'd be a huge hypocrite if I went and did that :hmmm: And I can just get the dual pack for 40 when I get another 10 dollars :lew:
