[V2] Last Movie You've Seen

Watchmen

I can't help feeling a little disappointed by this. Several people had recommended it to me, but it just felt a bit stale. Maybe it's because I have never read the graphic novel, and therefore know little about the characters, but I found them to be mostly too generic to relate to. Being generic may be the point of this story in some regards, but it just didn't appeal to me. The story didn't feel like it was going anywhere for quite a while, except for being worse-case scenario narrative of the Cold War, but the twist was quite cool when it happened. And just when you thought it had got going, you're reminded that the main character is essentially a god, and that the bad guy never really had a chance, and you're left with an underwhelming and unsatisfying ending.

I give it 6/10, just based on the (sometimes) cool CGI, the plot twist that wasn't wholly predictable, and that some of the fight scenes are cool (albeit a occasionally a bit gory for my taste). I don't think it's as good as other superhero movies out there, like the recent Spiderman or Batman films, but it is something that will probably appeal more to people who are familiar with the graphic novel.

Tangled

I love this movie. That might be because I am a huuuuge disney fan, but something about this movie is adorable, and moving. I kind of relate to Rapunzel, too, so that helps. But if you're in the mood for something light hearted, but still well told, this is definitely a movie to keep in mind!

8/10

Taken

You know when you have the mind of Luc Besson, and a badass action star like Liam Nesson, you get a badass movie. Everything about this movie, from beginning to end was non-stop suspense. If this isn't my favorite movie by Luc, then The Professional is. I highly recc. this movie to ANYBODY who likes action. :ryan:

Super 8

My main concern about the movie was that it would be too scary, and I admit wuss I am, even though I went with a friend, I did jump at a few points, but that was more a case of suspense than real fear xD

Anyways, I did like the movie for the most part. I admit that the focus on a adolescent boy wasn't easy to connect with for me, but I liked the over-all plot (around the end, it felt like a grown up version of ET).

I was left with a few questions, but the amount of action and explosions compensated for that xD

Rating: 7/10

Super 8.
(Haha same as above, but do I have a different view)

I found this movie to be just bad. Elle Fanning's acting was horrendous, (her character was boring and I'd like to know who did her make-up) and the other leading hero is supposed to be a regular boy but is instead fearless and unrealistic.

The acting of the co-leads was pretty good, but the coward boy was the only one acting like someone in that position would act.

The special effects were good, but sort of old since Spielberg has done them so many times.

I thought this movie was going to be a bit scary, but oh was I wrong. In exception of a few scenes and the swearing done by teenage boys, this is a kids movie.

The movie was very long and drawn out in the first half, and very rushed in the second. Also, the ending was a huge let down.

Just to let you all know, this movie is VERY anti-military.

So...the story line was corny, acting of the leads was boring and unrealistic, special effects was good in the beginning with the train scene but the rest just old, and not once was I on the edge of my seat or scared, and I'm a teenage girl.

I give this movie a 3.5/10
Ahhhh, it feels good to rant ^_^

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest

Catching up on the good movies that I never got the chance or motivation to finish. I remember seeing one of these movies from the series in the theater, but that was the only one I'd seen so I didn't really take too much interest in it. It was good, but for some reason I never looked into them more. After watching a bit of Dead Mans Chest I realized this is definitely the one I saw.

So far, obviously enjoying them. :ryan: The first was my favorite out of these two, but some of the scenes in this one make me want to take that back. I plan on watching the third now, and the fourth sometime after that.

Acting is phenomenal, along with amusing scenes and a great story.

The last movie I watched was Insidious.

It is a horror film. It's rather new. It is about ghosts etc following this family around and they dunno why so they get some pro's in to check the house out and it turns out to be their son who is haunted (Not a spoiler, they say it in the commercials) then all this weird shit happens and I dunno, it went from good to bad to good to bad. I couldn't really decide if I liked it or not.

Beverly Hills Cop II

I've wanted to watch this film for a while, I loved the first Beverly Hills Cop movie. It does feel like something of a let down compared to the first movie, though I don't think it's as bad as a lot of the critics out there have said. Eddie Murphy's acting was still great and Judge Reinhold was pretty good as well. It just felt a bit lacking in some areas. The jokes weren't as good as in the first one, though it did still have it's moments, and the storyline was pretty predictable right from the start. As for the action scenes, they were pretty much what you'd expect.

I'm going to give this a 7/10, I think part of the reason this film feels unimpressive is simply because it is a sequel to a movie which is something of a classic. Whilst this isn't as good, it's still a pretty decent 2 hours in its own right.

Batman Begins

This is the best of all the batman movies. It's better than the Dark Knight which is too long and Heath Ledger's Joker is overrated. It's the perfect length, great casting too, Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy are great as the villains. I like how it is much darker and more realistic than other superhero movies, how Bruce Wayne was about to kill the guy who shot his parents etc. It restarts the Batman franchise in the best possible way.

Monsters (2010)

This is a random film that I got bought, and so I didn't know what to expect. After seeing the title and the quotes 'THRILLING' and 'ACTION PACKED' on the front cover, I sort of expected your typical giant monster movie. In actual fact, you barely see the monsters at all, and for the most part they are fairly insignificant to the general plot. This actually turns out to be something of a love story between some Daddy's girl and a grumpy photographer, who happen to be travelling across a monster-infested part of Mexico together. It's pretty decent in the sense it keeps the suspense running by suggesting that there could be a monster attack at any point, but I'd hardly call it action packed. It's interesting to see how the two main characters interact and grow on one another, and the actors are good, but some of the dialogue is ridiculous, such as when the girl tries to accuse the journalist of being morally corrupt because he profits off the misfortunes of others, and they both contemplate this throughout the film. I just struggle to take these characters seriously when they try and make absurd moral arguments like that. Also, she seems to come on to him way too fast considering she's in this terrifying and life threatening situation because of his idiocy in the first place.

This film gets a 7/10 as well, it was pleasantly surprising to get something other than the usual over done action scenes in some monster movies. I would have liked the characters to be slightly more likeable though, and a bit more focus on the monsters, seeing as this is supposed to be a monster movie. All the same, the way in which you have to rewatch the first scene to understand the ending properly is pretty clever, and it is impressive that this film was made on an extremely limited budget.

Bridesmaids

Me and my mates were actually meant to see Super 8. But since there was a malfunction with the film or something we were able to see another movie for free; this was the only movie that none of us had seen.

The movie itself was alright. It wasn't brilliant or anything but it was pretty damn funny at times; there were some good one liners too. Can't really complain about a free movie either.

Harry Potter 7 (Part 2)

I watched it a few hours ago at the cinemas with my best girl friend and sister, so...it's still pretty fresh. Don't mind me if I go emotional or anything. :rage:

It was amazing. They stuck to the book with just a few exceptions. For instance, in the movie where
Harry grabbed Voldemort and they fell off a cliff
I mean, I can't recall reading that. Dramatization :rage: Aside from that, it was just perfect. I welled up when they revisited
Severus' memory
, throughout that whole segment. It was just how I had imagined it when I was reading the book. I had left to use the bathroom when
George died
so I'll regret that until the DVD comes out :hmph: I have terrible timing. :hmph:

Storyline played out just right (not too fast or too slow), great acting as usual, fantastic effects. Maybe I was absorbed more because I've been following the books since I was 9 and the movies since the first one was made. I was surprised when I heard applause from the audience when the credits rolled. I'm sad that the movies are done as well, but the ending was just...right. It was a perfect goodbye to Harry's story. I'm satisfied. :ryan:

Watched 2 movies the other night:

Top Secret! (1984)

Well this was a weird movie, though considering the directors, that's hardly surprising. The film follows some American pop singer who is invited to East Germany (supposedly Cold War era, though the soldiers are satirically portrayed as Nazi-esque) to perfom at a festival. Whilst in Germany, he falls in love and gets involved in a restitance movement. The humour isn't quite as consistent as I had hoped, and the musical scenes got a bit drawn out at time, but the film did manage to get me laughing a few times. It isn't surprising this film isn't as well known as Airplane or Naked Gun, but it is still worth a watch if you're into that kind of comedy/silliness. 8/10

Days of Thunder (1990)

Good movie. I don't know why critics are usually so harsh towards it. I don't buy into the whole 'Top Gun on the ground' criticism, the two movies aren't as similar as they're often made out to be. I haven't really got any real life interest in NASCAR, but the movie was still fun to watch, Cruise, Kidman, Duvall and Rooker all do a good job on the acting, and the racing scenes were well filmed. The story may be cheesy, but I found it hugely enjoyable. 9/10

JWick, I watched that monsters not too long ago, was one of the shittest things ive ever seen. i was just constantly waiting for this action that never arrived, only reason i agreed to watch it was because it was promising such things on the front of the case

I did like the bit at the petrol station though. About 5 good minutes in the whole film...

all the harry potters arghhhh. finished it off with the new one today, had to do some serious catching up/jogging of the memory

really enjoyed the finale, save for some fat cunt munching away afew seats away, i was ready for throttling him one. There were a few teary moments :wacky: Suppose I should dig out the books and add them to the pile of things i mean to get round to reading... i know i have the first few somewhere because i read them already...

The extended edition of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

3 hours 50 minutes long. Jesus H. Christ, I'm amazed I managed to sit through it. Although I can't imagine watching the normal editions now that I've seen the extended ones; the films make more sense with the additional footage. Nearly 4 hours is far too long for a movie but, asides from a couple of inconsistencies with characters (VERY damning ones) I'd say these are the only films based off books to do the books justice...bearing in mind I've never read Stardust before.

I think this film is only as good as it is because at least three-quarters of it is battles, though. The battles in this film are fucking EPIC. The battle of Minas Tirith is perhaps the best battle I've ever seen in a movie. It's, like, a third of the movie as well, proper length, unlike most movie battles which last about twenty minutes and are generally disappointing (see: Revenge of the Sith). The final battle was piss poor (I've never liked last stands, because characters seem to acquire immortality and suddenly the enemy can't swing a sword) but this more than made up for it. Awesome battle is awesome.

But urgh, what did they do to Eowyn? They REALLY fucked her up. She's supposed to be a strong and independant warrior, not a weak-willed weepy housewife. Her killing
the Witch King?
Totally unbelievable. She's so bad it's painful to watch her. I do not approve of the sudden and utterly random dismissal of
Saruman,
either. Plus
Legolas shooting Grima after he stabbed Saruman made no sense whatsoever. Saruman was already dead, killing his killer is going to do fuck all! If anything, it'll hinder you because you'll get no more information! Idiot!
That entire mess made much more sense in the books. It wouldn't have killed them to have some extended footage of that, rather than focusing on Gandalf getting owned by the Witch King, a couple of extra scenes with Frodo/Sam/Gollum (which, by the way, were boring) and Eowyn pining over Aragorn and washing his socks. I'm glad they spent some time on her and Faramir, though...who was also poorly done. What happened to his backbone?

Overall, I'd give this film an 8/10, and only because the battle at Minas Tirith is so amazingly awesome...and I did actually manage to sit through it, which speaks for how absorbed I was at points. Just when I was starting to get bored (i.e. in every Frodo/Sam/Gollum scene) they switch to the good characters killing everything and all is right with the world :yay:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

:gonk:...is reallly all I can say. This was an absolutely AMAZING finale to the movie series.

It was pretty much action...non-stop as opposed to the first installment which in my opinion was a bit boring. It doesn't entirely follow along with the book as far as accuracy goes. The very end part disappointed me because in my head I thought "nuh uh..thats not how that went.." However other than that one part the film was really well done. The effects in this are breathtaking...I was in awe of how well the final battle was done. The chaos of everyone fighting and everything...and the spells... was almost mind-blowing.

10/10.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2

I'm going to start by quoting from the book:

"And Harry, with the unerring skill of a Seeker, caught the wand in his free hand as Voldemort fell backwards, arms splayed, the slit pupils of the scarlet eyes rolling upwards. Tom Riddle hit the floor with a mundane finality, his body feeble and shrunken, the white hands empty, the snake-like face vacant and unknowing."

Nowhere in the book do I see "Tom Riddle exploded." or "Tom Riddle disintegrated." or "Tom Riddle was incinerated."

Sweet Jesus Fucking Christ, that ending didn't even MAKE SENSE. He just BLEW UP. WHAT THE FUCKING HELL?! That wasn't dramatic, or epic, or anything like that. It was UTTER BOLLOCKS. I can't seem to find the part of the book where it says "Bellatrix Lestrange exploded" either. That was even more horrendous...I was really looking forward to Molly Weasley going Lezard Valeth on Bellatrix and slaughtering her. What do we get instead? A two-minute scene, if that. Bloody hell.

Now, I realise that movies cannot follow books exactly. But even so, that doesn't mean the movies can just make shit up and change key events to suit them. I realise that J.K. Rowling's prose is only one step above the likes of Christopher Paolini and whatever the name is of the crazy woman who write Twilight. I'm not overly keen on the films, but I give credit where credit is due and, before this absolute disaster, they stuck to the books reasonably well, and they were passably entertaining. The acting wasn't as good as it could have been, but they weren't absolute nightmares. They were faithful representations that still managed to be pretty good as movies.

But, if you took the events that ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN THE BOOKS from the first and second parts of the movie and combined them together, you'd have a movie that was about two and a half hours long...slightly longer than this film was. They cut important bits out, added absolutely meaningless bullshit in (how is
Harry pulling Voldemort off a fucking cliff
more important than
Percy coming back and Fred/George (bugger if I can remember which) getting killed
when the latter actually happened?) and the overall effect was that this felt like a bad filler.

About an hour of this was good content. The rest was either a) special effects, b) made-up or c) unnecessarily extended. It was a bad representation of the last book, and a bad film that was stalling for time more than anything else. Exactly like the first part was. Put this together with the first part and take out the bullshit and I'd say this would be pretty damned good, excluding the events I mentioned above being changed. As it is...ugh.

...what I will say, though, is that they handled the epilogue bit rather well, considering how much like a bad fanfiction it was. I was dreading that bit, and...it wasn't actually all that bad. Definetely better in movie format than book format.

Overall, this gets a 4.5/10, because a little over 40% of this was actually good. The rest of it was crap. A poor finish to a passable series. I wish I hadn't forgotten the reason why I hadn't been to the cinema to see a Harry Potter film after the fourth book: because they've been getting worse and worse with each instalment. I'd rather eat a packet of shit-flavoured Every Flavour Beans than watch this again. It was like a movie version of Final Fantasy XIII: all style, no substance. Flashy special effects, but the story was lost in translation somewhere along the line. God almighty.

Bridesmaids

Been hearing nothing, but good things about this. So I decided to go and see it before I went on holiday. Loved it! The story was very simple with lots of action and comedy. I definitely loved Megan the most, she was such a scene stealer. I haven't laughed so hard in a film for so long. I don't normally get films when they come out on DVD, but I'll definitely get this. Couldn't recommend this film for a good laugh if you want one! Or five!

10/10

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Had to immediately see this when I got back from holiday. It felt like my childhood just disappeared completely by watching this. There aren't really many words to describe how I felt about it. Needless to say, I cried at the very end of it. The film was just as perfect as I thought it would be. Particular scenes that were brilliant were
Snape's memories, Molly's line to Bellatrix and the epilogue.
I loved that the emotion was really there this time with the high stakes and the threat of Voldemort. This will definitely be the most memorable film in my eyes.

10/10

Ridicule

I watched this in my History lecture yesterday and it was very good. It was in French and the heroine had an amazing pair of tits, so great that they are referred to on IMBD. It takes place in the court of Louis XVI a few years before he loses his head. It shows the corruption and hypocrisy of the French court and how the only way to advance is through patronage and wit. As a lot of the film is about wit there are quite a few good one liners.

Withnail and I

I am unsure what I think of this film, it was a very dark and black comedy with a very limited cast. Everything was well-acted and expertly written, the plot ran smoothly and the humour was well placed. I just didn't laugh at all, and by the halfway point I was just waiting for it to be over
