[V2] Last Movie You've Seen

Final Destination 2

I watched it on TV so it was full of adds so I don't think that added to movie. It wasn't very good, I'm not sure if they were going for horror comedy, but some bits did amuse me. But they wouldn't be funny if they were intentional. It's not the least bit scary which means it isn't a good horror movie and the only thing that was ever any good was when they were going on about the paranormal side of the movie. Unfortunately that bit wasn't very good either and it was incredibly. I think they must have been aiming for comedy in some places. Also the idea that they were being stalked by death was not a good one.

Submarine

My brother was renting a film for him and his girlfriend, and asked me did I want to get one too. It's your typical indie coming of age offbeat comedy, and breaks no new ground. It is however a fresh approach to the idea and is it's own film. The main character and his love interest are a particularly interesting view of youth

Grown ups.Rating PG-13
reason)Its a hilarious comedy. It got 4 stars which isn't that bad.I thought it was really good but my brother thought it sucked.Which isn't true it is a hilarious movie that i think rocked!:awesome:

30 Days Of Night- Dark Days

Another sequel, I know :lew: I actually ended up liking this so much I watched it twice in the same day. This movie focuses on what happens after the first movie and focuses primarily on Stella, who is working to create awareness of the vampires. The special effects are pretty decent, what was surprisingly good was the plot, and how well the second movie tied in with the first with flashbacks and etc. They did change a couple of the actors though, Stella is not the original Stella anymore...but I did end up liking this actor better... and Eben was not the original Eben (which really ended up bothering me)...but everyone else's acting was done pretty well. I recommend this if you liked the first, like I did. Vampire movies are always fun and not all are very well done...especiallly sequels. However this one was really good.

9/10.

The Duchess

I've wanted to see this since its release...three years ago. I've just never gotten around to it. It reminded me a lot of a TV drama, only it was actually good. A decent plot, fantastic acting, and it flowed fairly well. I liked it, but I felt it could have used a more satisfying conclusion. I've never been keen on those endings that just give a text explanation of what happened afterwards. But for an hour and forty minute film, it was well paced and didn't feel too long or too short...which is more than can be said for films that have followed it which have been two hours of bullshit.

9/10, because I really do not like text endings.

la HAINE

It is a French film that a pal lent me a while back, he has very good taste usually but I thought it might be a bit artistic for my taste. I was very wrong however and upon finishing it cannot believe it took me thins long to watch

It starts with images of riots in paris, and the story is about a guy who was hospitalised while being questioned by a police inspector. A riot breaks out over this, and an officer loses his gun. The gun is found by Vinz, the main character, who swears he will kill a police officer if his friend dies

It follows Vinz and two of his friends from just after the riots end for approximately 24 hours iirc. Said is a light-hearted youth who is always talking about how much sex he has, which tempers Vinz and Hubert's (the third character) more serious personas. The relationship between Hubert and Vinz is the really intriguing one however

Hubert runs a gym (which was torched in the riots) and is implied to have been quite notorious in his youth, but has matured now. Vinz is convinced that he has to show he is not all talk, and is desperate to prove himself.

The narrative is very fluid and though the story is advanced in one or two key scenes, you are always interested in the characters. The bathroom scene in particular comes to mind

The ending i.e. the last five minutes, is just mind-blowing

As the film's introduction itself says

"This is the story of a man who falls from a 50-storey apartment block. As he falls, he repeats over and over to reassure himself: 'So far so good, so far so good, so far so good.' But it's not the fall that's important - it's the landing."

My Girlfriend's Boyfriend

This was a romcom that was released last year that I never heard of until today. It had Alyssa Milano in it and I'm quite a fan of hers through Charmed, so I gave this a go. I was glued to the plot, which was decent at best, and which guy she would eventually choose. Now I'm glad that she chose the one I wanted her to, but I have to express my horror at the plot in some respect. Do girls actually date two guys at once to see who's the right one? If so, it's really tactless. Some great acting from all three leads; Jessie's brother in it had some funny scenes!

i fucking adored la haine. i've never managed to find it on dvd, but i really want to see it again. i was like you, thought it would be too arty for me to enjoy but it was so brilliant.

the last i watched was swimfan. it's a drama about a girl who stalks a boy after they have a one night stand even though he has a girlfriend. basically she's completely insane and it all gets well out of hand.
my mate gave it a high recommendation, but i thought it was only okay. a bit of a predictable plot. it's almost like one of those crappy slasher movies but without the mystery of who the killer is or the annoying tense moments when you know that someone is going to die (there's actually only two deaths in the film).

One Day.

Is was actually beautiful, and a lot better than I thought it would be. I haven't yet read the book, and didn't read the reviews, so I went to watch it without and expectations. Personally, I thought the script was well written and well acted. The characters Emma and Dexter were convincing, and the development of Dex worked well. The pacing of the film as a whole was excellent. It made me smile and laugh, and it made me cry (towards the end). One character (Ian) made me cringe a little, too, as he was meant to!

Phone Booth

I'd seen this once before, but that was years ago. Watched it again this morning and I thoroughly enjoyed it that I forgot how thrilling it was. Kiefer Sutherland was the big star here, but Colin Farrell was brilliant as well. One of the best thriller films I've ever seen. It's a shame that most of them can't be good as this nowadays.

Adventures in Babysitting

This really is the classic 80's flick...just like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink. I used to watch this all the time when I was younger and I loved it. This is about a girl who goes to babysit a family's kids after sadly acquiring a night off because her boyfriend said he couldn't go out on their planned date together. ...Then the night proceeds with many unplanned hilarious problems that ensue as they try to pick up a friend of theirs who has decided to run away from home. The acting is pretty good because Elizabeth Shue stars...and although the plot is pretty aimless, its really hard not to like it. This movie really is such a blast from the past.

Crazy, Stupid, Love

Not just another romantic comedy. It is, but isn't. You feel as if it's real people, going through real "love" problems, whom you could realistically connect with. It has more lighthearted humor as well, but you can tell there is a serious undertone throughout. And lastly, each character plays their part well.

Probably not for those looking more for laughs than anything else.

Score: 9/10

Tangled

It was shitty. There was a lot of parts I really liked, but I hated how it was cartoon-ridiculous and computer animated at the same time. The silliness of a horse acting like a dog, the physical abuse these characters take, I couldn't fully enjoy it as computer animation. It would be like watching Elmer Fudd get smacked in the face with a bat by Bugs Bunny in computer animation. Just doesn't work, it can't pull it off.

And the singing. Jesus, that was stupid. The lyrics were a joke "brush and brush and brush and brush and brush and brush and brush and brush and brush and brush and brush and brush and my hair" like fuck off bitch.

Wouldn't watch again, wouldn't recommend it, but I didn't hate it.

Shaun of the Dead. First time watching it, and it was even better than I expected. Most of it was fun and lighthearted, but it got a bit darker and more upsetting towards the end. It managed to balance the two conflicting themes well, actually, so the script was very clever. :) The acting was good - Dylan Moran and Simon Pegg are always great. Oh, and Bill Nighy!

Resident Evil Afterlife in 3D and it was amazing I still think Extinction is the best one, but seeing how it had no boring moments at all, it kept me watching. I would give it a 10 on a 10 scale, cause I cant name 1 part that didnt keep me watching. The best part was towards the end
with the epic wesker fight, and seeing that fight scene I actually had my eyes open, mainly for the dog that head split in half, also at the end with wesker flying away in a parachute at the bottom of the screen afte rthe plane blew up I didnt see coming

The Adjustment Bureau

It was quite boring and predictable. After the set-up I just wanted to skip to the happy ending part, but I decided to watch the whole thing. It's Inception-lite and I didn't like Inception, so I did lot like The Adjustment Bureau even less. I didn't dislike it exactly, because I only dislike bad comedy movies because they annoy me.
Emily Blunt is nice though.

k-19: the widowmaker
aside from some cringe-worthy russian accents, it's an absolutely terrific film, telling the story about the soviet submarine k-19 and the nuclear incident that happened aboard it in 1961. i didn't realise until afterwords that it was directed by kathryn bigelow.

Black Sheep

We had Chinese last night, so my housemate put this on to watch while we had it. Although we got interrupted by the landlord's untimely arrival at one point, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't normally watch horror comedies, but this one had me laughing my fucking arse off. It was strange to see it set on a farm in New Zealand, but the concept was believable enough. The fact that the main character Harry has a phobia of sheep because of his brother Angus did it for me. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Session 9

This was a movie that I've really wanted to see for a long time. Finally, I bought it on sale last week for real cheap. I was thrilled with my purchase, but I wondered if the anticipation that I had built up within my mind could be satisfied by the film.

You know, I actually think that it was. Session 9 is a psychological horror film about a team of asbestos cleaners that are hired to clean out an old, abandoned mental institution in Massachusetts. I don't want to spoil too much of the film's plot, but I'll say that fractures within the team quickly begin to surface, and past psychological problems come out to the forefront. Echoes and traumas of the past return to prey on the present, and chaos ensues. I'll just leave it at that.

The ambiance of the film is wonderful, and the institution (It was filmed in a real life abandoned mental institution) is creepy and unsettling. The fact that they filmed it in a real mental institution really helps with that facet of the movie. It gives it an authenticity that a constructed set couldn't compare with.

Acting wise, this movie was damned good, though there were a few cheesy line readings from CSI: Miami and NYPD Blue star David Caruso. I'll post a video of his greatest line in the movie at the end of this post, since you have to see it to believe it.

All and all, I was pleased from what I saw, and it was definitely worth my time. It's not a perfect horror movie by any means, but it's very well done and I liked it. It's not a gory slasher film, or even a supernatural haunted house story though it may appear to be that from the box cover. It's a quieter, more psychological horror story, which I dig wholeheartedly. There is a real Jacob's Ladder/Silent Hill vibe to the film, and since I love both Jacob's Ladder and Silent Hill, I was in for a treat.

7/10

Oh, I can't forget this...
