[V5] What are you currently listening to?

No Bravery - James Blunt

I know. I must be foolish to not have realized that his singing has a distinctive quality that isn't common in today's music. This distinctive quality is emotions. It appears to me that many of his songs are so heavily infused with emotions that it's hard not to feel something when listening.

This song is fairly easy to understand. The lyrics are not exactly cryptic, but his voice. Goodness. I listened to quite a few of his live appearances for this particular song. Damn good live singer. Whew!

Two Hearts Together - Neimer

I will admit that at first I wasn't really a techno/electric music fan, but after listening to a few songs, I officially became a fan. I don't know whether it's the beats or just the way the rhythmic sounds just follow a heart beat or something, but now I can't stop listening to it. It's just the kind of music you want to dance too. :yay:

Crash Test Dummies - Superman's Song

For some reason or another, quite a lot of people absolutely hate the Crash Test Dummies. Honestly, I'm not quite sure why. Superman's Song is the first single from their first album, and it's always had a soft spot in my heart. It's a quiet song, melancholy with a beautiful piano tune sparsely playing through it. The lyrics are poignant without being sappy, humanizing the deceased Übermensch Superman. It's quiet, it's soft, and it's a beautiful song. I recommend.

And They Call This Tragedy - Alesana

i just love Alesana. Their screams are so emotional. So much more hardcore than the screams of Post-Hardcore bands, and the vocals of their singer is just insane. He has a range unlike anyone I know of. And this song is just awesome. :ryan:

Children Of Bodom - Trashed, Lost & Strungout

http://youtu.be/XVifw7Atg2Y

I don't listen to CoB so much even though they have made some awesome songs throughout their history. I consider Trashed, Lost & Strungout being one of their minor hits because it came out on Trashed, Lost & Strungout -EP before their huge break with Are You Dead Yet? album. Song kicks ass and is definetly one of my favourites from CoB.

White Town - Your Woman

I never really heard much of White Town until a few months ago, but I'm certainly glad that I did. I'm a fairly political person, and White Town's music can be rather political, but my favorite song of theirs is actually one of their least overtly political. Fun, no? Maybe I like it because this song is so groovy, and I absolutely love the lyrics to it. It's a sort of break-up song that can be taken a lot of different ways, which was intentional on the part of the artist. I also enjoy the repeating trumpet line that was taken from what I think was an old 1920's musical number. Or it could have been from the 30's. I'm not sure. Musical knowledge from that era is not my forte I'm afraid.

The Mars Volta - Eriatarka [De-loused in the Comatorium, 2003] (Progressive Rock)

Before The Mars Volta became a band known for their increasingly complex and strange songwriting, they burst onto the scene with the Tremulant EP and this landmark album. Filled to the brim with fantastically creative compositions, Eriatarka stands tall in this listener's opinion as the pinnacle of their career. Though they would go on to create magnificent sprawling works like Day of the Baphomets, this song is the perfect mix of musical ideas conveyed at a considerable length.

Annabel - Alesana

I admit, I'm on a bit of an obsession of Alesana these last couple days, but hey can you blame me? I just love this band. Shawn Milke is excellent with the lyrics and his clean vocals are great. And with Dennis Lee's screaming vocals makes for a great combination. Honestly, I can go on and on about everything I love about this band, but I think I'll just say that this song specifically is totally rad. Mad respect to Alesana. :ryan:

A Thousand Miles - Vanessa Carlton

Seems to me that I'm going for songs that I missed out on back in the day eh?

... Back in the day makes me sound old. In any case, I watched this by chance while randomly clicking music videos on YouTube. The piano in the music video is beautiful! It's even nicer to notice that Carlton makes good use of the piano throughout the video. Quite inspiring for someone learning to play the piano.

I'll probably strive to learn the piano accompaniment to this song some day... After I clear up the list of songs that I'm hoping to learn.

Nero's Decay - Alesana(From the Album "On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax (Post-Hardcore)

Yes, this song is about the Roman Emperor Nero, and about his empire fell. The thing I love about this song is the build-up in the beginning. I love the guitar, I love the drums, and pretty much every second of this song is great. Patrick Thompson does great on Lead Guitar, and the combination of Dennis Lee's unclean vocals and Adam Ferguson's death growls are great. However, for me, Shawn Mike's ability to write wonderful lyrics, and have such a great voice puts it together nicely. It's not my all-time favorite song by them, but it's on the fave-five.

9/10

March of Mephisto - Kamelot

One of my favourite Kamelot songs. I've always liked concept albums, and whilst I've not actually read Faust, which the album is loosely based upon, I may do at some point.

...although thanks to a certain someone, I have to fight from giggling every time Roy Khan sings a slightly higher-pitched chorus.

A Flock of Seagulls - Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)

I know. They're a joke one-hit wonder from the 80's, but I don't care. I will always love and defend A Flock of Seagulls from the teeming masses that mock them. Honestly, I believe that they're highly underrated as a band. Everyone knows their signature hit (I Ran), and if you're into 80's New Wave, you'll know about Space Age Love Song. Other than that, most people are unaware of the icy cool New Wave brilliance of the Flock.

Case in point. Wishing is one of their lesser known singles, though it's actually good. Of course, that's true about ANY of their singles sans I Ran, but I digress. Wishing is a nice little pop gem with a groovy synth line and a slightly catchy chorus. It's nowhere near as memorable as I Ran, but it's good enough. You can't go wrong with 80's New Wave, wistful lyrics and bizarre swooping haircuts. Ergo, Wishing rocks.

Okay... Mike Score's infamous Flock haircut IS silly.

Dare you to Move by Switchfoot

I just found a really great tribute to this song, I always felt the song was amazing and carried a deep meaning, a meaning a lot of people probably don't get about it, this band is truly amazing when it come to inspirational songs and lyrics; they really did innovate alternative rock in a great way and this song is a prime example.

Eva The Carrier - A Skylit Drive

A fine example of how Jagmin's vocals shine like no other. His high-pitched, almost girl-like singing voice is what makes this song - and ASD in general - totally awesome. For this song individually, I love the lyrics, and just every little thing about it. This song does not have any bad parts in my honest opinion. ^_^
